Org List:
This is the DLV 2014 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Latest status:
All, we're in our "crunch time" now and it's very easy for something to
get overlooked! If you sent in anything to ORG and don't see at least a
reference to it in these mailings, please be assured that it's an
oversight and not a snub.
If this should happen to you, please resend or remind.
. . . . . . . . . .
Overall, things are looking good. Most of what still needs to be done is
filling in some of the details. Thanks go out to all for making this one
of the smoothest-planned DLVs of all time! :)
. . . . . . . . . .
As of this writing, we have a total of 193 signed up to attend. This
number has been very typical of what we see two weeks out from show
time. Registrations continue to come in 1-2 per day, but cancellations
(17 so far this year, not too bad, actually) are slowing down the
increase in numbers somewhat.
Out of the sign-up mailings that went out, 130 of them are in. Five new
registrations are in the pipe. However, 25 are now in the "cancellation
pending" state due to non-response to several requests to sign up for
activities.
Speaking of which ... can we tawk?
In checking over the roster, a fair percentage of the attendees who are
sitting in a cancellation pending state for non-response to activity
sign-up are volunteers, some of whom are on record as coordinating
activities this year!
Please, gang, get these in, as they reconfirm your intent to attend.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Laundry list:
We now have two contact people whose phone numbers will be listed
in the Large Final Mailing.
It would be nice if we had a third.
Both of the listed numbers are local, so the third one can be local
or long distance from Las Vegas.
Don't worry, your number will not be posted in public. It will be given
only to those registered to attend.
Volunteers?
. . . . .
Valorie? Marisa? You say that KOH Club has a "ladies" entrance. Can we
please get a brief description of where this is with respect to the
property in general so we can include this in the notes on the activity?
. . . . .
Sara? Where, exactly, in the PF Chang facility will the gang meet? If
you may remember, there was some confusion about this last year. Is
"upstairs" a good enough clarification?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Name tag distribution:
All, we would like to have the name tags conveniently available to all
attendees. We're trying to have all of the "choke points" covered, as
well as some of the more popular activities.
Vera and Dennis cannot be expected to do all of this, so we're asking
for volunteers to assist and take over some of the times. See schedule
below.
. . . . . . . . . .
Vera writes:
We are driving in Sunday. We should be in Las Vegas early afternoon
around 5 or 6 if all goes according to plan. So it is possible to meet
at the Sunday venue or one of them and distribute some name tags.
I'm wanting to know whether Ginger or anyone else will be bringing the
plastic holders for the name tags? Were there any left over from last
year? Do we need to get more?
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
First of all, big thanks go out to Vera and Dennis for doing the tags
again this year! :)
As for the tag holders, I have these and there are TONS of them! We
probably will not need to get any more of them this year.
As for Sunday evening, a good place to do this will most likely be the
Beauty Bar where we can then catch people in one larger group. That's
probably the best place Sunday evening.
As of now, here's where we have "Name Tags Available" noted on the
final schedule:
Beauty Bar, Sunday
New Attendee Orientation, Monday
Welcome festivities, Monday
(notice the big gap here)
Closing festivities, Friday
It would be nice if we could cover as many of the daily lunches as
we could. I (Annie) am willing to do this at the Tuesday LWG.
Any volunteers for Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday lunch?
We really don't have any true "choke points" between Monday evening and
Thursday evening, so the more things we can cover on those days the
better.
I know that Vera will be busy during the Fantasy Ball, so it would be
good if we had a volunteer to handle name tags at that affair, since
that will be one of the largest gatherings we have.
Volunteers? :) (TIA!) :)
. . . . . . . . . .
Beverly responds:
I can help with name tag distribution Monday at the opening celebration,
Tuesday at golf, possibly Tuesday night at Frank Marino, and Thursday at
the hike as well as at Fantasy Ball if that helps.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie continues:
Thanks, Beverly.
We need to decide whether it's better to have tags at golf or lunch on
Tuesday and arrange to hand off the check-in kit accordingly. We only
have one set of tags this year so it can't be in two places at once.
Yes, Frank Marino will have quite a showing, so that may be a good place
to catch people who did not get their tags on Monday.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Blue Ox capacity:
Linda writes:
I had lunch today (Monday) at the Blue Ox and met with Ron Aronsohn. We
will be in the banquet room and there will be 4 long tables with 10
settings each, so I guess you can increase the limit to 40.
He said it wouldn't be a problem if the turnout is smaller. He was going
to provide us with the banquet menu (which has fewer selections than the
regular menu), but I asked him for the regular menu and he agreed. The
only difference is that the banquet menu has a few items removed that
tend to take longer to prepare, thereby avoiding a long wait time for
customers who may order those items. I figured this wouldn't be a
problem, as we would have nearly 3 hours from dinner start to karaoke
start.
However, if you think we should stick to the banquet menu, I can easily
arrange that.
During the course of our conversation, I mentioned that I had noticed
another of our activities (2bShapely) was scheduled for Thursday at
his restaurant. Apparently he was unaware of this, so he asked for the
coordinator of that activity to contact him. I don't think there will be
a problem; he just wanted to know.
Finally, since I don't have a smart phone, what is the status of having
another person handle the online checkin at Blue Ox and/or Phoenix?
. . . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Thanks for following up on this, Linda.
Here's the way the numbers look as of Tuesday:
+ Total count for activity Blue Ox Dining option: 36
+ Estimated turnout for Blue Ox Dining option: 24.0
The machine-predicted show-up count is low since, out of the 36 signed
up, 16 of them (about 44%) are new and thus have a higher fall-out rate.
The newcomer percentage of 44% is expected since this option is noted as
the "safest" dining option for Sunday evening.
You will most likely find out that the estimated turnout will be the
closer number to the number of people actually showing up.
As to the menu situation, our people definitely prefer a full menu.
Anyone with a smart phone, netbook, tablet, etc. could potentially do
the check-in. They do need to have a MyDLV user name, as that is how the
authentication and tracking are done. If you trust the person, you could
conceivably log him or her in and then the check-ins would be in your
name. That is your call.
It would be nice to have check-in available at the Blue Ox-Phoenix track
on Sunday.
. . . . . . . . . . .
Kandi responds:
Thanks for letting me know about this. ...
I send an email to Ron today and got back confirmation on the 2:30 pm
workshop. Please update me on the headcount / emails when they are
available.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Dancing at Paris on Thursday:
Vivian writes:
As the volunteer for the Thursday Dancing at Paris,
Regarding Thursday nights Dancing at Paris versus Fantasy Ball at King
of Hustler. They overlap (8pm, 4-5hours, 10pm, 2 hours, respectively)
and both have drinks and dancing.
Do we still need the Dancing at Paris on Thursday?
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Do we still need it? I don't know.
Since you're the Coordinator for dancing on Thursday, you make the call.
If you think it's redundant, just give the word to remove it from the
schedule.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
FISM rendezvous:
Vera writes:
> Vera? Do you want to specify a place to meet at the FISM or just
> have the group run into each other casually throughout the place?
I will wait outside for 10 minutes or so after the scheduled meeting
time and then go in and, then have whomever shows up late go in and try
to run into me or any other of the gals. I'm either at the Las Vegas
Wigs or the jewelry stand closest to the front door.
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks, Vera. We'll note this on the final schedule.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Satay and High Roller:
Laura writes:
I think we should increase the number of attendees for Satay. Twice the
number, 40 maybe. The restaurant should be able to handle it. Will
contact them and check.
Last I heard the High Roller opens at the end of the month of March.
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks, Laura.
Limit has been increased.
There is so much contradictory info out there regarding when the wheel
will be opening that realistically we're gonna have to wait until we
either hear that it's actually taking on general public passengers or
observe it in person.
The rumor that's going around on the LV talk boards is that the opening
of the wheel will be set to coincide with Britney's opening at PH in
April.
Nobody really knows for sure.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Pre-DLV gathering:
Annie writes:
There's been some discussion on this, several suggestions, no decision,
not even a favorite from those venues mentioned.
I know that this is not an official function, but I would sure like to
see it come off well and be well-attended.
What it may very well take is for someone to say "I (we) will be at
XXXXX at XX:YYpm and if anyone cares to join us ..."
Please follow up to this, if you wish, on the Discussion Forum.
