Org List:
This is the DLV 2014 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Updates and such:
We're just two weeks out! This is a quick update, summary, and request
for a number of items of information.
. . . . . . . . . .
As of this mailing our total signed-up count is 189, including 32 SOs.
The Magic Machine says that out of these, 106 will show, a number which
will continue to increase as activity sign-ups continue to come in.
Out of 160-some sign-up notices which have gone out, 113 of them are in.
41 of them are outstanding and history tells us that yes, a good number
of these will eventually be cancelled for failing to show any sign of
life.
Two additional registrations are in the pipe. We are now at the point
where cancellations begin to offset new registrations, so we will see
the numbers converge upon a good estimate of our final body count very
shortly.
We are seeing a slightly higher cancellation rate than we did in 2013,
but nothing like we had in 2012 when we had 84 cancellations.
For those keeping track of the sign-up count for your activities, you
can now assume that between 2/3 and 3/4 of the sign-ups that will come
in are in. History has also shown us that those who sign up later in the
process or under threat of cancellation tend to sign up for fewer of the
smaller activities than do those who sign-up promptly.
For those who use the dlvhc report, this is no longer prepared twice an
hour due to a technical issue. It's run on occasion following each
"spurt" of activity sign-ups.
Our most-signed-up-for activity now is the Fantasy Ball at 81, which
actually beats both of the major dinners (80 and 74). No activities
are "virgin" or have a headcount significantly lower than expected.
The sign-up numbers are actually bouncing around hourly, as we are
seeing quite a few attendees going back and modifying their selections.

Laundry list:
Bob? Are you ok with being a listed contact person again this year?
Others? Any volunteer care to be a listed telephone contact person?
. . . . .
Valorie? Marisa? You say that KOH Club has a "ladies" entrance. Can we
please get a brief description of where this is with respect to the
property in general so we can include this in the notes on the activity?
. . . . .
Sara? Where, exactly, in the PF Chang facility will the gang meet? If
you may remember, there was some confusion about this last year. Is
"upstairs" a good enough clarification?
. . . . .
Vera? Do you want to specify a place to meet at the FISM or just have
the group run into each other casually throughout the place?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Credit where credit is due:
Below is the activity section of the "Thanks" item for the Large Final
Mailing.
We want to be sure that everyone who should be listed is listed!
Coordinators and assistants: Please look over your activities to be sure
that the credit is given to those deserve it. If any assistants are
missing, please let us know.
Also, if anyone did a substantial amount of work toward an effort which
was related to your activity, please name them as well. For example, we
are giving Kandi credit for doing a lot of legwork for the closing
activities even though the venue(s) she pursued did not make the cut.
Anyway, here's the list, updates please ...

Bahama Breeze and diversity:
Beverly writes:
I got a call last night from Bahama Breeze. ... They were just calling
to confirm our details so everything is good there.
The other reason was that the manager had just returned from a
leadership meeting at their HQ in Florida where the topic of discussion
was Diversity.
He brought up our group as an example of what they are doing which lead
to a discussion on the GLBT community in general. He asked if he could
take some photos when we are there for him to share with the other
managers to help in reaching out to other groups like ours. I told him
about our photo policy of always ask before shooting and he will follow
that. I know that there are a few of us non-camera shy gals that he
could include.
It's good to know that they are very supportive of our community and
wish to strengthen that across the BB organization. So we definitely
have a friend in BB.
On another note I am trying to find out the status of the High Roller
ferris wheel at The Linq. I think it would be a fun daytime activity for
either Wednesday or Thursday. It would be a 'just show up' arrangement.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Thanks for passing this on, Bev.
What I might suggest is that their manager use any of several of the
group shots taken at the BB over the years. Everyone in them posed
voluntarily and they all should be either high-res digital or high res
film scans. They are already on a public section of the web and there
should be no copyright issues.
I'm still trying to find out the true opening date of the High Roller.
All I know right now is that as of last weekend it was lit and spinning
but sans passengers.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Capacity increase:
Randi writes:
For the Mexican dining option on Thursday I believe you can lift the
limit to unlimited. The restaurant is huge and can handle just about any
number. Glad to see that there is interest! The owner is easy to work
with. Love the guy.
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks, Randi. The interested people will appreciate the added capacity.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Rock back up the clock:
Bob Writes:
Classic R & R at The Phoenix will start at 8pm, instead of 9 and will go
until we run out of customers, songs or we can't sing anymore!!
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks Bob. Schedule has been adjusted.

Firefly comments:
Kandi writes:
On my most recent trip to Vegas, I went to have dinner at Firefly, 3824
Paradise Rd. 89169 (702) 369-3971 on a Monday night. The parking lot was
completely full with cars and they had a limo/shuttle running to take
customers around to their cars parked offsite. I was lucky to find a
parking space behind the building.
I wore a black/beige dress with new black open toe heels. I walked in
and found the lobby was very crowded. Large groups were waiting for
their tables. The banquet room was open for this over-flow crowd. I
over-heard the hostess tell the group in front of me that waiting period
was 45 minutes. WoW for a Monday night!
When I got to talk with the hostess she smiled and remembered me from my
last visit. She said she could find me a table in 5 minutes if I could
just sit for a minute. She walked over to the bar area and returned with
a menu and walked me over to a table for two. This restaurant has become
extremely popular, the local handout. I'm happy for their success and I
was thinking it was good that DLV decided not to go here for dinner
because the wait would be way too long. I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner,
as always.
Just wanted DLV planning to know about this situation.
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks, Kandi.
We do appreciate the effort you put in checking out this venue and
meeting with the staff. You do have listed credit for this WR the
closing celebration.
