Org List:

This is the DLV 2014 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

EHM replacement status:

This, again, is a special mailing dealing with only the EHM replacement
situation. Other items will appear in the regularly-scheduled ORG
mailing, which will most likely go out this Wednesday.

Thanks to all for input and suggestions. Please read the items below and
respond as appropriate.
. . . . . . . . .

On another pressing topic, we've been having fits with Yahoo mail over
the past week or so. Thanks to all who have done forwards, screen shots,
tests, etc.

It appears that the messages are indeed making it to Yahoo, but are not
being displayed when requested. "... download errors ..." as two
individuals have reported.

Please remember that mailings to this list are archives on the web here:

http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/org14arc/

You can always read them here if the mail fails.

Archives appear right after the batches are sent. Use these if you get
any more blank messages.

If anyone wants a permanent or temporary switch to a non-Yahoo address,
just let us know.

Also, if anyone is in touch with others on this list who use Yahoo,
please check with them to be sure they are in the loop and let them know
of the list archive web address if they do not know it.
. . . . . . . . . .

Another item of high importance, if you send something in to ORG and do
not see it acted upon, please let us know. As we go into battle mode
with this one pressing issue, we need to be sure that other important
items do not get overlooked!

EHM No-go

Marisa writes:

I don't know that the loose sexy atmosphere of the EHM can be replicated
anywhere else, so lets see what we can come up with for the evening.
. . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

Thanks Marisa, and again, thanks for your efforts in planning and putting this
thing together.

All, we can think of this as the official no-go for the EHM activity as planned.

Please continue to discuss and brainstorm.

Various facility comments:

Delaney writes:

I'm good with the GLBT Center, although I think there will be complaints
unless there is a decent selection of alcohol.

As much as some complain about the Artisan, they do have a full bar, and
while the drinks may be on the high side, if you have to pay to rent a
room elsewhere, it becomes a swap - not to mention a girl can always
have one less drink, and pare her individual cost. I guess I'm one of a
handful of women who thought the Artisan was decent, particularly for
those who are public exposure sensitive.

My memory of the Mob Bar is they would lack enough space.

One back-up idea may be to go to one of the large lounges, where they
have free entertainment, enough space and a full bar - the Venetian, for
example. However, even though we would be out of the main traffic flow,
it is a very public venue. A place like the Chandelier Bar could work,
as it is fairly large, but it might cause the event to appear as more of
a glorified Happy Hour than a unique happening.

Prom theme replacement:

Nicole writes:

HI DLV Org Folks,

If you decide to go with the center and do a dance or ball or, might I
suggest, "The Prom You Never Had," I would be glad to DJ the event. I
run a mobile DJ, sound and lighting company here in VA. Obviously I
could not bring sound equipment and lighting but I could bring my laptop
with my high end DJ software and music collection. I do everything from
weddings to pool parties and really specialize in older rock, real R&B,
disco, etc. Also have all of the popular line dance songs and a good
variety of everything from swing and big band to country.

The issue would be getting a decent sound system if they do not have a
house system at the center. I imagine there wouldn't be a problem
finding rental equipment in Vegas but I have no idea what rates would be
and I would also need a local to help track that down and arrange for
setup. Let me know if this sounds like something people would like. I
know I have heard some folks express the desire to have a formal dressy
event in the past and it hasn't worked out. This could fill that bill.

EHM replacement thoughts:

Katie writes:

Hi Gang.

I think attempting to replace a somewhat large activity venue with
another one equally as large might end up being a flop due to the rush
decision we might make.

I can guarantee that everyone will not want to go to the lesbian center,
Me for one!. So along those lines I suggest we come up with a few
smaller ones which may have been on the D L V back burner or just an
idea in someones mind. This is the chance to show our strengths which I
think are quite vast as an organization.

So suggest one girls! I will kick it off..

I liked the Chinese buffet idea someone had on Flamingo Rd. Yes, I know
we already have dining out options for Thursday evening! This is just
one idea that came to mind quickly. I also like the mob Museum idea
too. we don't have to grab at a single 100 person venue in haste and you
never know some of these ideas we come up with might stay the course...

My personal (Slide in quickly and efficiently replacement) is The Limo
Tour. I know it will be a maximum 7 limo's X 5 or 6 ladies = 42 women
tops and will not fully replace the Erotic museum thingy but I imagine
the L/T will fill up fast as it always did in the past, . I might
consider going again myself if it became a reality.

My point is that if we have a few outings of various descriptions and
preferences to pick from then I think everyone should be happy, Whereas
if we pick one fast decision venue we will have fallout. We are a very
strong group and nothing has stopped us before. This is just a speed
bump.

EHM replacement facilities:

Kandi writes:

It just so happens that I visited the Artisan while I was in Vegas this
week. Now, I've arrived back home and have normal connectivity again. I
didn't remember which night the EHM event was planned so I guessed Wed.
Without connectivity, I was flying blind all week. My hotel room was in
on the far corner and just didn't get any signal.

> -- {ducking and running!}) :)

I went into the Artisan and the restaurant was dark. I asked at the
front desk and she said it was closed during the week and only open on
weekends. I suggest we add this to the options list, as well.

When will we have a guess about how many people will attend the (former)
EHM event? Headcount could be a deciding factor. Relatively speaking,
The Phoenix seems to be the larger venue including the patio area.

My $0.02 worth.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

As to when we will know about how many will attend? All we can do is
guess as of this time. My guess was in the 70-ish range for the formerly
planned EHM activity, based on previous attendance at the EHM and the
amount of "buzz" the planned activity was generating.

I'll try to guess on some of the various options below.

Replacement suggestion:

Cami writes:

I had a thought for a fill in. How about a limo/van ride to the new
rides that have opened. The new ferris wheel opens 3/1 at Quad and the
new roller coaster at Circus just opened.

Could also do Stratosphere at end for cocktails.

Just a thought but I wouldn't have the time to lead another event.

Thursday evening options:

Annie writes:

Before we discuss the potential replacement activities, let's talk about
timing and logistics.

The major logistical item is that of activity sign-up.

It's now February 24th. Original plans were to roll out activity sign-up
during the week beginning March 2 (next week), the first full week in
March, which would be along the line of the lead time that we've given
it in recent years.

Pushing this to the week beginning March 9 is certainly possible and
within comfort and technical limits.

Pushing it any farther into the future strains my comfort level, even
though we could probably, in a worst case, push it to the week beginning
March 16 if we absolutely had to.

This means that plans for any replacement activity or activities which
would require a sign-up or a headcount should be solid by March 9 to
be within comfort limits, and we have a hard-stop drop-dead date of
March 16.

Anything added to our calendar after activity sign-up starts needs to be
"no sign-up, just show up" in nature. (No, special out-of-procedure
one-off sign-ups do not work! We've learned that the hard way!)
. . . . .

This also means it's "turn and burn" time for those who want to plan any
alternatives of any significance! Procrastination is not an option!

If you are serious about any replacement activities, it's time to hit
the streets! You do not need permission to contact vendors and make
tentative plans. Just be sure not to commit anything until you have the
"OK" from this group here.

There is one activity on this list with which I have several years
experience and yes, if that is selected I'll volunteer to do my usual
part if that's what the group decides upon.
. . . . . . . . . .

Here are my thoughts on some of the suggestions and proposals.

1. Alternate activity (perhaps a Prom theme?) at The Center.

Even though I remarked that the Fantasy Ball could be "fork-lifted" into
the Center, Marisa is correct that the atmosphere is not the same. If we
use The Center, the resulting affair probably could not be as "edgy" as
planned for the EHM, even though most of the attributes could be
preserved.

The "Prom" idea keeps coming up over and over as a suggestion but never
happened. It could happen this year at The Center (or elsewhere) but
those who are proponents of it (Nicole? others?) need to get crackin',
as in NOW, and make contact with The Center and/or other venues and get
things rolling.

I can foresee a Prom Theme affair or a Fantasy Ball in a location other
than EHM, such as The Center, attracting 50-60-ish participants.
. . . . .

2. Mob Museum.

I re-read the original suggestion, and it was clearly for the Mob Museum
and not the Mob Bar. The Mob Bar has moved into the Downtown Grand.

If anyone wants to see a major activity of ours at the Mob Museum, well,
you have your marching orders. :) Please report back ASAP. :)
. . . . .

3. Phoenix Lounge.

Phoenix is probably not gonna un-schedule their Karaoke that Thursday
evening, but they will most likely be cooperative on allowing a
concurrent themed activity for the increased bar sales.

Somebody (?????) will need to check with the management shortly if this
is to happen. I can foresee either a Fantasy Ball or Prom theme activity
working well in this venue.

As to a headcount guess, my money goes on the 40-50-ish range.
. . . . .

4. Gold Coast.

If anyone wants to reserve the Moapa Room for a Fantasy Ball or Prom, they
need to make contact and report back.
. . . . .

5. Blue Ox. (Mentioned off line as a possibility.)

They turned down our 100-ish crowd with food, but may be receptive to
doing a special affair of about 1/2 that size.

Again, it will take someone to talk to them, see where they stand, and
get the ball (or the prom) rolling. :)

I think that Blue Ox would probably get more participation than Phoenix.
That's just a guess on my part, however.
. . . . .

6. Limo Tour.

IMAO, this is an easy one. It's a recurring popular activity which is
a lot of fun! I said I would do my thing, and I'm sure we can twist
JoAnn's arm to plan a dynamite tour route. (We learned the hard way
that we do not want me to do this duty!)

It will take a couple more volunteers to do such things as purchase and
load supplies, direct traffic, etc. It's a bit of busy work, but not
grueling by any means. (Volunteers?)

That's the good news.

The bad news is that the Limo Tour has some practical limits. Six cars
is the most we can really do without the whole thing breaking down into
chaos.

Limo Tour capacity limit is therefore in the 32-36 range and usually
sells out.

This means that if the Limo Tour is the featured activity of the evening,
there will need to be at least one other activity in the same timeframe.

6a. Variation on the theme:

Yes, it may be possible to work the big wheel ("High Roller" if I am
correct) into Limo Tour plans if it is indeed open.

Do you have a confirmed source on the 3/1 opening date?

One option may be to make The Linq (the mall area) the last Limo Tour
stop and allow those who want to do the wheel (if it's really open) the
chance to terminate there and do it.

All (particularly locals with an ear to the wall) does anyone have any
traceable authoritative info on an opening date for the wheel?
. . . . .

7. Madame Tussaud's.

Again, if anyone wants to see this happen they need to get us some info!
. . . . .

8. Artisan:

I actually said this in jest! ... Really.

However, it could work if something, anything, could be done to mitigate
the notoriety of the high drink prices that occurred last year!

I do foresee them being receptive to a great crowd on an otherwise very
slow evening. However, those prices are still fresh in everyones' minds!

If this is to happen, we will need to see someone get in touch with them
very shortly and report back.
. . . . .

9. Chandelier Bar:

I do not envision them closing this off for a private affair. They do a
very good bar business most evenings and I don't think we have the $$$$$ to
buy them out, even on a Thursday.

I also don't foresee them being very permissive as to what's allowed as far
as costumes and such.

If anybody wants to make contact, please do so, but I'm not holding my
breath.

Ditto with using any other casino lounge for a direct drop-in
replacement. None of them that I know of can easily absorb 50-70
additional bodies. If this is to be considered, we need to make
arrangements even if only to let them know so they can adjust
staffing levels.
. . . . .

10. Asian buffet:

If somebody wants to touch base with them WRT doing a "dinner dance",
then please do so. I personally think that there would be a much better
turnout if dinner is priced separately. (rinse - repeat)
. . . . . . . . . .
