Special single-topic mailing:

First of all, one quick announcement. Two ORG members who receive mail
via Yahoo have reported receiving a blank message for this week's ORG
mailing.

If something like this should happen to you, please report it ASAP.
. . . . .

This is a special ORG mailing consisting of all of the EHM related
comments which have come in so far. Depending on need and timing, we
may have other special mailings of this type as we decide what to do
regarding the disruption of our planned activity.

Further comments are encouraged, and no, by simply commenting you will
not be jumped upon to do any heavy lifting, busy work, etc. :)

Thanks to all who have provided suggestions. Please continue to do so,
and let's hear your comments about what's been proposed so far.

As of this time, Marisa, Sherry, and team have first refusal rights
on the activity or its replacement. They have not reported in yet,
but we can give them some encouragement, suggestions, and support.

They will have the option of simply moving the same activity to another
location, doing a substitute activity, or abandoning the idea totally.

Should they wish to abandon, the evening will be open and we, the group
as a whole, will decide upon a replacement.

EHM discussion:

Robin (with the "I") writes:

As far as the EHM problem. How about talking to the people at the Gay
and lesbian center, and maybe organizing a dance or ball, open it up to
the community, and donate the proceeds to the center. That way we can
give back to the people of Las Vegas, and have fun doing it. Just a
thought.

Vanessa writes:

Hate to see the EHM fall through both because it was a fun venue, but
also because it does offer an amazing view of sexual history.... amazed
they can't get a sponsor or underwriter from the adult entertainment
industry... Flynn or Hefner...oh well. Wish I were local to help find
options but a couple of suggestions for optional venues....

how about other museum spaces such as the Liberace or Gangster Museum...
promising a group in the evening at $10-15 each might generate some
interest.... or how about Madamme Trusoes Wax Museum ... I think there
is one in Vegas... they can't be that busy in the evenings and might
welcome a private affair...think of all the photos the girls would take
in those types of places. Just some ideas.

Kandi writes:

It just so happens that I'm in Vegas when I heard about the EHM
eviction. It's Fashion week here and the LV Convention Center and many
Hotels are hosting Fashion events. Look for my upcoming trip blog.

I decided to stop by the EHM @ ~4:30 pm this afternoon to check
out the situation. There were several mini-vans parked out back being
loaded up. I went inside to take a look. I saw Lady Rose packing up her
stuff. She says that after Mercedes passed away the lease was subject to
cancellation.

I asked her where we might hold our event and she recommended The
Phoenix. She gave me directions and also recommended the Gold Coast. I
said I was so sorry to hear about the situation and I wish I was able to
help. {OK, I was wearing a purple dress and pumps so I wasn't going to
start loading up a van.}

I drove over to The Phoenix and realized it was The Escape lounge I had
visited in June {2013}. Back then they were going through an ownership
change. It's complete now and they are looking for events to host. I
spoke with Mindy and she checked the calendar that shows Apr. 2, Wed. is
open.

At this point I though it best to let you know bout this option to see
if it is workable.

This place has music system, pool tables, dance floor, a patio with a
BBQ grill and free parking. Mindy said to speak with the owners; Shawn,
Landon nor Gab.

Maybe this is a quick fix or the original EHM party concept has more
requirements.

If possible, I recommend reviewing this option and calling the owners to
book immediately to reserve this evening for our event.

EHM :(

Wow! I really hope they can find another space for the museum.

Sarah (with the "H") writes:

If the activities scheduled for the EHM end up being cancelled, would it
be possible to do a re-run or a part 2 on the scavenger hunt? I won't
be in town for that activity on Sunday, so that may be an option for
some of us who arrive Monday or later.

I know the work that goes into the Limo tour is extensive, but it's
always been a favorite of mine and would love to do that again if it
ends up on the activity list once again.

Annie responds:

Big thanks to all who provided input here.

As of now, everything is on the table and it will be up to us, to decide
what to do and then, of course, to do it. :)
. . . . .

Here are a few of my comments on each of the mentioned options:

1. The Center.

In my opinion, The Center is definitely a possibility, and may be one
into which the entire planned activity could be "fork-lifted" without
too many changes to plans except for the actual venue location.

Aejaie had a wine and cheese social there last year (coincidentally just
prior to the EHM activity) and the room we had would offer an cozy and
intimate environment for 50-70 or so. :) They do have countless larger
and smaller options.

I do know that they allow alcohol (at least wine) under some conditions,
as Aejaie had it last year. I remember a strict no-smoking policy
anywhere in the building.

I know there would be a charge for us to use such a room, and I'm very
sure there would be some degree of formality, including deposits and
such.

If this is to happen, somebody will need to do some busy work.

This may also appear to be "too alternative" to the mainstream
aficianados in our group. :)
. . . . .

2. Liberace Museum.

I'm sure this would work fine if someone can convince the current
landlord to re-open the building, turn on the utilities, and restore
the occupancy permit. :) :) :) :)
. . . . .

3. Mob Museum.

I don't know if they do special events, but if they do I'm sure there
will be some formality involved.

Anyone care to check it out?
. . . . .

4. Madame Tussaud's.

Ditto. Plus, JoAnn will be using this on Wednesday as part of the Audrey
Tour, so it would be a redundant venue.
. . . . .

5. The Phoenix.

Kandi, the date we need is Thursday, April 3. The evening of April 2 is
full and solid, and anchored by one of the less "portable" activities on
our schedule.

However, IIRC, Shiela does Karaoke at Phoenix on Thursday and there was
some chatter about going there after EHM. One possibility is to build a
replacement activity around the Karaoke session.

Disadvantages may be that it would appear too downscale or too
alternative for some of our folks. IIRC the smoking lamp is lit, so
there may be complaints or concerns about that too.
. . . . .

6. Gold Coast.

They would rent us a ballroom. It would be the archetypal Moapa Room
down a long hall of various other quasi-desert themed rooms. They would
provide a cash bar on request. There would be boo-coo formality and it
would cost real money.

It would be mainstream, but may have a closeted vibe to it.

If anyone wants to do the legwork to check it out, please do so.
. . . . . . . . . .

Of all of the suggestions presented so far, I think that The Center and
The Phoenix look the most promising. I know there are others. (LOL,
anyone wanna to drop in to the Artisan and check things out? -- {ducking
and running!}) :)

As for alternate activities, should Marisa and Sherry and team
officially punt on this, we'll then consider the alternatives.

Yes, the Limo Tour is indeed a possibility. It's an almost ready to go
drop-in replacement and I know it would work well launching at one of
the already-scheduled Thursday dining venues.
