This is the DLV 2014 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not

Regular ORG mailing:
This mailing covers about everything but the EHM replacement issue,
which does have a good ongoing conversation within separate mailings.
Other than for the Thursday situation, things are looking very good.
Wednesday morning's validated headcount now stands at 168. SO count is
now 25. Of these, the machine says that 133 will actually show.
We've had another cancellation, and, an "un-cancel", which seems to
happen about once every 2-3 years.

Laundry list:
One specific volunteer is needed on Monday evening.
Who wants an easy ticket to voting status? Here it is!
+Monday:
+When: 10:00pm
+What: Dancing at Paris
+Where: Paris - Cabaret Lounge
Coordinator: tbd
This is one of the very few places where we need a volunteer.
This one is easy. All you really need to do is agree to be there on time
and do such things as greeting, welcoming, and directing traffic as
needed. No heavy lifting! :)
Volunteers?

High Tea:
Marilyn writes:
JoAnn, Just want to address your questions with respect to the tea.
If you go to the web-site for the Four Seasons at Las Vegas, you'll
find that the tea is actually from 3PM to 4PM Monday thru Friday and
they require reservations at least 24 hours in advance.
I've always requested 2PM, so that we have time to get ready for the
evening events, and they have been kind enough to accommodate us.
The Tea menu shows the cost at $34 for a basic tea and $49 for champagne
with the tea. These costs do not include the 20% service charge and the
8.1% state tax. Last year the basic tea was $30 and the addition of the
service charge and state tax totaled $38.40, therefore we rounded up to
$40 and gave it to the Four Seasons. Now the cost totals $43.55, round
up to $44.
The cost increase doesn't bother me as much as the fact they want $500 to
reserve the La Sala room (originally they wanted $750). It all goes on my
credit card, since that is what holds the reservation.
My math shows that we need at least 12 people to make it worthwhile to
use La Sala, where 11 is close enough that I can pay the difference. So
if the paid participants by Tuesday at noon (actually Monday night since
I will be golfing on Tuesday) is less than 11, then we'll just get a
couple of tables in the open area.
I really would encourage everyone to use PayPal, since the Welcome
Celebration can be hectic for finding people. Maybe I'll bring a sign
with a high 'T'.
I haven't sent in the credit card authorization yet, so if this looks
like a no-go then nothings lost, but I would like to know soon enough in
order to hold the reservation.
I might also point out that when I first called them, they informed me
that they were originally going to be doing renovations that week but
that they had postponed it until later.

Clubbing, pole-ing, scavenging:
Valorie writes:
SCAVENGER HUNT:
I think we should meet at the bar at the Triple George Grill. That way
there is less running around and less change of losing people. I think
we can have an open signup for this without a cap.
POLE DANCE:
I think we are ok with 1-2 people watching though we will put you on
photo duty :) Last year we had one girl just hang out with a camera and
had lots of great pictures. Let me know if you want to sit in so I can
keep track of the of the numbers and let the studio know. We will
probably set the signup cap at 16 so every girl is guaranteed a pole.
If you are waitlisted, you should call me cause we always have 1 or 2
no-shows and I could always share a pole with someone. I will add this
info on the forum.
CLUB SURRENDER:
I will also be leading a group over from Dancing at Paris but we can
officially meet in the lobby of the Wynn at 11:50pm. We will enter the
club at midnight. It will be completely free as long as they enter the
actual club with me (otherwise it is $30). My name will be on the VIP List
and I can bring 10-20 guests. Warning: the drinks are definitely pricey
($15-$10,000) though you are under no obligation to drink. I won't do an
official signup, if someone wants to come they should talk to me during the
week. The obvious times would be at the Pole class or the Farewell
dinner. I want to make sure I can connect with everyone personally to get
them in. I will add a post on the forum here as well.
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks Valorie. All should be set now. :)

Just You Open House:
Linda writes:
Amy at "Just You" would like to have an open house during DLV week,
similar to last year.
I was wondering why she wasn't on the schedule and asked her about it
today. We agreed that it would be reasonable for me to host(ess) it and
she would prefer Tuesday. She will be contacting you about this,
probably today or tomorrow.
It would be nice if some of the girls could schedule some makeovers with
her during the week too. Amy does amazing work!
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks, Linda.
No, we have not heard from Amy (or anyone else) about this. The only
reason that it was not on the schedule this year is that nobody has
scheduled it. :)
Anyway, it's on now. The past couple of years it's started at 11:00am
so that's what we'll use unless you say otherwise.

Bar Rescue Tour:
Summary to keep the group informed:
>From a conversation, Robyn (with the "y") and Annie:
r>I would like to make the bar tour a pre paid event. The van will
r>have seating for 9 guests. Since it is one of the first events
r>and we have to have 9 to make it at 20$ a guest. What do we have
r>to do to make this happen?
a>I really think that there's minimal risk of taking a financial
a>bath on this one. All you need is 9 bodies paid.
a>I envision a very high demand and a deep waiting list for this.
a>The risk will be for no-shows (or in this case no-pay) and we
a>can very carefully assess the risk of each person if necessary.
a>One alternative would be to allow prior attendees with no
a>no-show record to pay at entry and insist on prepayment from
a>newbees and returnees who have no-shows on record.
r>I like this option, did not realize or totally forgot
r>that you must have a data base larger than Los Alamos. LOL.
a>Not only that, but it's fairly straightforward to show, in real time,
a>how each attendee has to pay. Examples:
a>"You are a previous attendee in good standing. You may pay for this
a>activity at the departure time with the understanding that any
a>no-show/no-pay will be recorded and assertively pursued for payment"
..
a>"As a new attendee with no attendance or payment history, you will
a>be required to pre-pay for this activity via Paypal."
a>Just let me know how you want things to be.
a>In general, our folks absolutely ABHOR pre-payment and allowing
a>those in good standing to pay on the spot will greatly, IMAO, add
a>to the enjoyment and satisfaction of the activity.
r>sounds good
a>How do you want to do the pre-pay for those who will need to do it?
a>Do you want to use Paypal, have them e-mail for instructions, how?
r>let me think about this for a week.
a>Paypal seems to work the best for things that have to be prepaid
a>prior to DLV, but not everyone uses it or trusts it.
a>Previous years' responses to "send a check/MO to PO Box xxxxx" have
a>been spotty. Usually about 40% of those who say they will send will
a>actually send.
a>LOL, there's always Bitcoin. :)
r>I feel comfortable with going with the must sign up and show up
r>with the responsible people on your data base. We will collect
r>the money at the start of the venue.
