Date selection:
This is a special mailing consisting of date comments only. Other items
received will appear in our regular ORG mailings.
We're asking all to please read the date comments below and respond if
there are any issues. We want to be sure that any conflicts with any of
the proposed dates are brought to our attention during the discussion
period and not after the vote on the dates has been taken.
Please make any comments on the dates promptly, as we'll be calling for
votes when the discussion dies down. Please be sure to check your e-mail
frequently during the ongoing date discussion period.

For me, I know I will likely have a work-driven conflict around the
first of May. However, I will not have the dates until Feb or so. If it
conflicts, I will still do all the Org things I can throughout DLV, I
don't expect the vacation to be run around my availability, I just
wanted you to be aware of the possible conflict.
The March 30- date should be clean for me.
Last year, there were some vendor concerns wrt the Keystone Conference,
which will fall sometime in mid to late March. I know the girls there,
so I did send them a note asking if 30 March was in the mix. However, it
would likely be ending that date, so I'm not sure it's a meaningful
conflict should it occur - they can still make DLV starting Sunday night
or Monday.
So far as the horseback ride, I like that idea :-)!

Hi girls, for me personally I would prefer the March 30th week as late in
April and May I go to Florida on vacation.

Living in Vegas, it really doesn't make much difference to me when DLV
is. Late March, the weather is much nicer than late April/early May, for
any outdoor activities. On the other hand. if you don't mind runny make-up
and sweaty bodies, then have it your way.

Personally speaking, I find all three sets of dates to be about equally
workable for me. What I want to see most in a set of dates is one which
does not lock out any key players and one which will give us the best
overall turnout and the best overall satisfaction of the event.
The weather always seems to come up during our date discussions.
I am not a weather forecaster, but having grown up in the family of one,
I do know that the short-term variance is far more significant than any
historical averages in determining the day to day temperature and other
conditions. We run the risk of it being too hot, too cold, too rainy,
too windy, etc. no matter when we schedule the event.
The April 1 average high for Las Vegas is 74F. The April 1 average low
is 52F. The April 30 average high is 84F and the April 30 average low is
61F. It's more likely to be very windy in late March and Early April and
rain is more likely in the earlier parts of the spring. Humidity is
usually low during the entire spring season.
Ten degree swings from these numbers are not uncommon. Yes, we've had a
few complaints about it being hot in the daytime over recent years and
we've also had complaints about it being cold and windy on the golf
course and during the Limo Tour as well. No span of dates will guarantee
us ideal weather.
Speaking from a personal standpoint, over 90% of what I do in Las Vegas
at DLV is in climate-controlled spaces, so weather is pretty much a
non-issue for me.
As to attendee conflicts with other TG events, attendance patterns show
that few individuals will do two major TG events that are close to each
other on the calendar. Such things as finances, time off, family issues,
etc., limit most people to 1-2 TG events per year at most. The result
will be more or less the same whether we actually overlap or schedule
within a few weeks of another event.

For me personally, the later April date works best to avoid work conflicts.
So I would favor the later April over later March for our Vegas week.
My wife and I are taking a vacation out of the country in early February
and a few more weeks to build back up the savings account would be nice
before heading to Las Vegas. That being said, I will do my best to work
out any conflicts to make it to DLV2014 anyway I can.
I am also hoping to make Pinkfest in Chicago October 16-19 but have a
few scheduling issues to work out.
