Continuing planning DLV 2014:

We're making an adjustment to our timetable of the various milestones
leading up to DLV 2014. A need has been shown to move up the target date
for deciding on the dates for our 2014 event. See items below.

We ask all to please read all ORG items promptly during the date
discussion period. All material received by Sunday evening is included
in this mailing. Items received after Sunday will appear in the next ORG
mailing.

No objections were raised to declaring Bob and Sara the joint holder
of the odd-year Administrative Committee seat, so we will consider
that resolution to be passed by consensus.
. . . . .

We'll hold the Call For Photos open until July 1. Thanks to all who have
recently sent in photos.

Timing and scheduling:

Gabi writes:

My input is about the timing of the event. By not picking for example
the 3rd week in April or what ever date that may be decided and make
that consistant it makes it hard for folks (me for example) to schedule
in advance.

I will be scheduling my next school years driving classes very soon.
That is what happend last year as we choose a date too late for me to
change my schedule. Just a thought.

For many years we did a similar thing with a church event. One year the
minister just decided this event would be the second Saturday in
November and that was 27 years ago and the event keeps growing because
people can count on that time.

I missed coming last year a lot... xoxoxoxo
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

Thanks, Gabi.

To accommodate your needs we'll be moving up the date selection process
from its planned September timeslot. See the introduction immediately
below.

The topic of locking in DLV to a definite month/week has been covered
several times throughout our history. In the last go-round, nobody was
able to name a week in our customary season which was guaranteed to be
free of known recurring conflicts.

Dates for DLV 2014:

We are introducing the topic of the dates for DLV 2014 at this time.

We (Annie, Beverly, Joann) have examined every week between the end of
March and the beginning of May, and using the following critera have
prepared a list of possible weeks to be considered. Criteria are:

1. Beginning on a Sunday and ending on a Saturday. Why? Trial and error
has shown us that this span of days works much better for us.

2. Free of conflicts due to family and religious commitments. (Easter,
Passover, Holy Week.)

3. Free from city-wide room rate spikes driven by major events in the
Las Vegas area. (NAB Convention is the only significant item in this
span of weeks this year.)

Every week from the end of March until the beginning of May was
considered and checked for issues. Religious/family holidays and the
NAB Convention (which causes room rates to increase sharply) were the
only noted conflicts.

Here are the weeks we're showing as available for our 2014 event:

1. Week beginning Sunday, March 30.
2. Week beginning Sunday, April 27.
3. Week beginning Sunday, May 4.

The floor is now open for discussion on the dates. We'll have a few list
cycles available for discussion and if no consensus is reached, we'll
call for votes.

A few notes on the process:

1. If you have any insurmountable conflicts with any of these
timeframes, it's important that you bring these up when the floor is
open for discussion (as in NOW) and not after the vote has been taken.

2. In all fairness, please do not exaggerate your degree of difficulty
with any of the proposed timeframes.

Comments please.

Karting and sailing and horseback:

Vanessa writes:

I raced on one of the indoor tracks located near the Palms Hotel and
Casino as my male self about 3 years ago and this track featured
electric go-karts which were fast and did cut down on the sound
considerably... they did require you to put on a racing suit (coverall)
and you were required to wear a helmet... and the helmets were snug (of
course I have a big head) but I cannot imagine trying to put on a racing
helmet with a wig on..... could be a problem for many of the girls.

I would suggest we re-introduce the Lake Mead cruise or consider horse
back riding out in Red Rock Canyon... I'd even take on the organizing of
the horse back event as well as the shooting event.
. . . . . . . . . .

JoAnn responds:

Vanessa--

No suggestion is bad, however, some activities are more ideal. The
criteria for encouraging a particular activity are several, with the
main drivers for me being: (1) the activity is new and/or possibly
somewhat unique for our group; (2) it carries a "femininity factor"
[hard to describe all the particulars, but we know it when we see it];
and, (3) we have a sponsor for the activity.

As I read your comments:

Yes, thanks for volunteering to organizing a horse back riding event
out in Red Rock Canyon. It has a good "fit" for the above three
criteria drivers. As the activity organizing gets under way after the
first of the year we will be getting back to you on this one.

The "shooting event"--- we have which has been organized by Gina who
has "first rights". Annie can follow up on that. (See below.)

The go-kart would fit into what might be called the "tom-boy mode" ---
us girls can do whatever the boys can do. This is a possible activity,
however, its alignment is not the one I would believe would be sought by
most of us girls at a Diva Gathering.

I think you are correct Vanessa about "not imagining" this would not be
a problem for many of the girls to see themselves doing. I think there
are many other events were we should place our attention. Believe this
activity was suggested by Dennis, who I am very confident has many other
good possibilities for more ideas.... so keep them coming.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

It's kind of a grey area as to who has the official first refusal rights
to host(ess) the shooting activity for DLV 2014 since there were some
extenuating circumstances. Vanessa is on record as to organizing the
activity and Gina and Laura are originally listed as assistants. Due to
unforeseen circumstances, Gina's name does appear on the final schedule
as the Host(ess) of that activity and Gina was the one present on site.

I think the fair thing to do is to let Vanessa and Gina decide who will
take the lead on this activity in 2014.
