Big Thanks:
Special thanks go out to Beverly, Delaney, and Randi for answering
the call for our critically-needed dining options! See items in
various places below for details on all of these.
We're not totally there yet. These three help out quite a bit in
giving the attendees some enjoyable options on those days. We are
still in need of at least one more dinner volunteer ror Sunday and
possibly some on Monday, depending on how the Monday evening plans
turn out.
This fills out the evening schedules thusly:
+Sunday, April 14:
+ 6:00pm: Happy Hour options (various)
+ 6:00pm: Sin City Happy Hour (Flamingo) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Alize Happy Hour (Alize - Palms) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Artisan Happy Hour (Artisan) - mv
+ 7:00pm: Dining options (various)
+ 7:00pm: Flamingo Buffet option (Flamingo) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Alize dining option (Alize - Palms) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Artisan dining option (Artisan) - mv
+ 9:00pm: Evening options (various)
+ 9:00pm: Alternative Common Gathering (Drink And Drag) - sv
+ 9:00pm: Mainstream Common Gathering (Margaritaville) - ms
Sunday for Happy Hour and Dinner is still a bit weak. The three
options cannot accommodate anything close to our expected in-town
crowd.
If you're not signed up to coordinate anything, please consider
doing a HH/Dinner activity on Sunday evening.
Something downtown for HH/Dinner would be a good fit here.
+Tuesday, April 16:
+ 6:00pm: Happy Hour Options (various)
+ 6:00pm: Mob Bar Happy Hour (Mob Bar) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Hard Rock Happy Hour (Hard Rock Cafe HARMON) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Piano Bar Happy Hour (Harrah's) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Mexican Happy Hour (tbd) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Artisan Happy Hour (Artisan) - mv
+ 6:45pm: Eating Out Night -- NOTE TIMES BELOW (various)
+ 6:45pm: Oscar's dining option (Oscar's - Plaza) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Hard Rock dining option (Hard Rock Cafe HARMON) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Ruth's Chris dining option (Ruth's Chris - Harrah's) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Mexican dining option (tbd) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Artisan dining option (Artisan) - mv
+ 8:00pm: Mainstream-Alternative Night (various)
+ 9:00pm: Pub Crawl (tba) - sv
+ 9:00pm: Absinthe Show (Caesars Palace) - ms
+ 9:00pm: Fremont Street Experience (Fremont Street) - ms
Dinner for Tuesday has filled out nicely, but after dinner, as it
sits now, is still somewhat weak. We're hoping that Valorie will
agree to do the Scavenger Hunt on Tuesday, as this appears to be
the best fit for this. Even if this happens, there will still be
room for another 1-2 lower-key after-dinner activities.
Now, for those who are observant, you'll notice that one of the
newly-added HH/dinner options for both nights is at the Artisan.
People will be there, and obviously some will choose to stay there
and drink and eat. As of this minute and second we don't have any
designated volunteers. If you're not already coordinating anything,
please consider taking either Sunday or Tuesday. This is a trivially
easy ticket to voting status. All you have to do is to agree to be
there (you don't even need to eat there) and direct traffic and
such.
. . . . .
We still have some decisions to make regarding Monday evening.
The big question is when (and how) do we schedule an evening meal?
1. During the Welcome Celebration, as available, single track.
2. Prior to the Welcome Celebration, multiple tracks.
3. On-site after the Welcome Celebration, single-track.
4. On/off-site after Welcome Celebration, multiple tracks.
See discussion below.
. . . . .
Activity sign-up:
Two week warning!
Over the next two weeks we'll be finalizing the details of activity
sign-up. Please respond promptly if we reach out to you for details
that need to be finalized in order to let activity sign-up happen.
We'll plan on doing a test run of sign-up mailings to those here on
the ORG list, most likely two weeks from today. Our process has matured
to the point that unless something totally catastrophic happens, it
will be unnecessary to go back and re-fill the screen should something
go wrong.
. . . . .
Numbers game:
Registration total now stands at 190, which includes 32 SOs. Using
the accurate-through-2011 formulae, we can expect 152 of these to
show. That's about the best guess available. We still have 5 weeks
to go before show time, so we're on track for a great turnout if
we do not see a run of cancellations right before the event.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
JoAnn Sez:
> JoAnn Sez:
Yes, I cannot thank those of you who took on the additional request and
stepped forward for the dining options.
Also I am working on a "mystery event" to be included on the limo tour,
but it will take an assistant to help "marshal the troops". A new face
who already decided to take the Limo tour is more than welcome to
"stretch" and help on the tour.
The "schedule finish line" is just around the last turn and as we are
coming up on it very quickly.
It looks like another great activity calendar. Thanks.
JoAnn
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Laundry list:
As JoAnn commented, we are in need of one additional volunteer to
serve on the Limo Team. This will involve "busy work" only with no
required public contact and no required responsibility for money.
Duties include assisting with the purchasing of supplies, assisting
with the loading of supplies and passengers in the limos, and general
traffic direction and coordination at the Limo Tour stops.
If you're interested, just reply to this mailing.
. . . . .
Delaney is calling for Big Sister volunteers. See note below.
. . . . .
JB? Any further thoughts or plans for the Ballroom Dance Instruction?
Activity sign-up is just two weeks away.
. . . . .
Marisa is calling for an assistant for the Swap Meet on Wednesday.
Very easy ticket to voting status! Anyone?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Artisan plans:
Ladies (and gentlemen), we have some decisions to make.
Even though Cynthia is our go-to-girl here, it's the responsibility
of all of us, including you, to decide on what we want and give
Cynthia some guidance. If Cynthia asks for help, it's up to us to
give it to her.
We want to give our attendees an enjoyable and memorable evening
which includes 2 hours or so of "Quality Social Time" in which to
mingle and get to know each other. We also, one way or another,
need to facilitate an evening meal for those who want it.
. . . . .
Cynthia writes:
> Need BBQ at Artisan finalized by Cynthia
Hi JoAnn,
Wow, you caught me off guard on this one. Since it was your brainchild,
I figured you were going to finalize it !! haha. However, I'll call Arty
management and see what I can talk them into. But, I can't gaurantee you
anything.
A poolside BBQ might interfere with their already registered guests -
pool use priviledges, extra wait and serve staff, tables, chairs, bar
service, and all the amenities, etc. etc. They may want a separate
contract for it.
Keep in mind that we are a short-term unregistered sans contract
event for one evening only.
I think Katie, or was it Marisa?, is on the right track in suggesting
the many other available restaurants and bars nearby. These might more
conveniently be considered for our 9:00pm late-night WC dining options
slot. We're not a small organization anymore, and as this year's
attendance figures continue to rise, activity planning will become more
complex as well.
If Diva '11 was any indication, this year's WC is going to be a big
draw. I think this one's going to sneak up on us and go over the top
too. Artisan is gaining a reputation for late-night events, especially
with the GLBTransgender oriented crowd. Our sister organization,
WildSide TG, in cahoots with the local Vegas T-Girls club, is holding
their event there in May. Now that Krave is open to question, Artisan
seems to be turning into a club of choice here with the gay crowd. Vegas
is an awful fast town and can change direction on us on a moment's
notice. We have to stay on our toes.
. . . . . . . . . .
The big unanswered question is how to handle the dining situation.
When do we schedule an evening meal?
1. During the Welcome Celebration, as available, single track.
I see this as the "default" option. I foresee delays in seating and
serving, particularly at the peak arrival times. I also foresee a
good amount of complaining should we choose this option.
. . . . .
2. Prior to the Welcome Celebration, multiple tracks.
This option requires multiple venues which means multiple volunteers,
at least one for each option. There's also volunteer coordination
necessary to be sure everyone at each dining venue gets to the
Artisan, as opposed to staying put or going elsewhere, as was the
case with one group in 2010.
. . . . .
3. On-site after the Welcome Celebration, single-track.
This is the "Poolside BBQ" option that JoAnn discussed. This will
require some formality if it is to happen, most likely some kind of
a contract and quite possibly a deposit, or at least someone's
credit card number. There are also issues of collecting payment and
identifying paid eaters.
If we're going to move forward with this, we need to plan now!
JoAnn adds:
Option # 3
Another thought about this venue-- Poolside BBQ from JoAnn--
We get a fixed price w/ fixed menu and the Artisan sets a required
minimum of attendees.
With our registration we get a sign-up for possible attendance for
poolside publishing a "fixed price". If we have a comfort-level on the
sign-up as compared to the required minimum we go for it.
Payment is on-site. Deposit we can discuss if required.
JoAnn.
. . . . .
4. On/off-site after Welcome Celebration, multiple tracks.
Marisa has cited a number of nearby dining options. That's fine,
but it's not very welcoming to say "here are your options, you're
on your own" on our first major evening. We'll need a volunteer at
each of the options to, at minimum, welcome the others and direct
traffic. It's incredibly easy and low-maintenance, but it does
involve a commitment, in advance, to be there.
Comments, please!

Dinner on Tuesday:
Beverly writes:
Ask and you shall receive... I would like to offer another dining option
for Tuesday night that I am willing to host. Ruths Chris Steak House has
just opened in Harrah's. It happens to be one of my personal dining
favorites so I can guarantee you a wonderful dining experience.
However, please note that this is an expensive place to eat so the
dining out will be along the lines of a Lawreys Prime Rib experience.
Ruths Chris is on the second floor of Harrah's overlooking the strip. We
could meet at the Piano Bar for cocktails prior to dining. I was hoping
for the opportunity to eat there this year so this is a way to fulfill
that desire. I don't expect a big group to take advantage of this but
would like to see 6-8 dining guests.
Link and menu: http://www.harrahslasvegas.com/restaurants.html
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks, Beverly. It's on the schedule. It is appreciated.
We'll set this to "sign-up required" and a limit of 8.

Mexican dining:
Randi writes:
Hi, I notice you have no Mexican food this year. I would be willing to

Emcee help:
Vera writes:
Bev, If I can make it to DLV this year you can count on me to help you
MC but have a back up person just in case. Hugs! Vera
Vera continues:
Hi to all my DLV family of friends!
Just wanted to say the chances of Dennis and I making it to Las Vegas
for DLV 2013 are looking pretty good at this time. I didn't get
eliminated for the first week of competition BUT I was one of two drag
queens at the bottom. The only thing that saved my butt this week was
the fact that the other drag queen at the bottom along with me entered
the competition just yesterday due to one of gals already selected being
disqualified. So they ruled it unfair to eliminate this drag queen who
had only 24 hours to prepare for her number, which btw was terrible. So
had it not been for her I would have been the one eliminated tonight.
Doesn't make me feel good that I've been tagged to eliminated so
quickly.
We'll see next how it goes next week. But if i don't make it past next
week, all I have to say is Viva Las Vegas!!!
Now if you want to help me win immunity for next week...you can by
getting on Facebook and liking the FB page belonging to Nadi Nature. On
Nadi Nature's page you will see photos of the 10 drag queens taken
tonight during the mini challenge photo shoot. You can "Like" my photo
and for each "like" I get a vote. The three top voted drag queens win
immunity next week. So, please help me out at least for another week.
Since I already know they want me eliminated it really shouldn't matter
to that I stay maybe another week or two. I'm eventually going to get
booted out and told to sashay away! I just don't want it to be so
quickly.
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks, Vera. It's good to hear that you'll most likely be with us,
although we do wish you luck in the remaining weeks of competition.

High tea notes:
Marilyn writes:
First of all I've secured the same room for the High-Tea at the Four
Seasons Hotel on Friday. They were kind enough to adjust the time from
3PM to 2PM so that the rush for the evening events won't be too hectic.
The limit is 20 so sign-up is required. Also, payment for the High-Tea
will bethe same as last year. Since I am required to give an accurate
head count (and payment) 72 hours ahead, the deadline for payment is
Tuesday at 1 PM.
The easiest method is to use Pay-Pal prior to DLV, similar to the
payment plan for golf. If anyone cannot use Pay-Pal then they can pay
cash to either Danielle or myself by Tuesday at 1PM. The cost is $40
each, this covers tax and tip. It does not cover champagne or any other
special add-ons, those can be purchased individually at the event.
For those unfamiliar with the High-Tea, let me say that it is an event
where you can dress up during the day. Some attendees wear gloves and
hats. There is a wide choice of teas and a three-tiered platter of
scones, finger sandwiches and desserts are provided. Afterwards we go
out in the lobby and take pictures by a spiral staircase.
I should also add that it is recommended that you use the valet parking
at the front of the hotel, otherwise it's a rather long walk.
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks, Marilyn.
Can we assume that you want your usual e-mail address to be the
Paypal recipient for this?

Dining on Sunday and Big Sisters:
Delaney writes:
If you get into a bind with Sunday dinner, I was tentatively planning to
go to dinner on Saturday evening at Alize - perhaps I could switch it to
Sunday. However, it is similar to Old Homestead in cost, which may be a
consideration.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Thanks, Delaney.
Yes, unfortunately I would call this "a bind", particularly on
Sunday.
I'll make you a deal! If you'll host(ess) Alize, I'll drop the Old
Homestead and host(ess) something lower in cost and more universal
in appeal. Probably Flamingo Buffet, at least for now, unless I
can think of something better. Capacity is close to unlimited.
Plus, this will flow quite nicely into the Mainstream Common
Gathering at Margaritaville later. I was thinking of doing HH and
dinner there also, but I thought of the cluster-{f-bomb} that
happened last year and I'm sure many of our people would avoid it.
. . . . . . . . . .
Delaney continues:
Speaking of being in a bind, we are in arrears with Big Sister
volunteers, so if there are a few on this list who would consider
helping a sister, I would appreciate it. I will write something up for
the other mailing lists, but I am hoping there is a person or two on the
organizers list who might be interested.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie continues:
Ladies, if anyone wishes to volunteer to help someone who may be new
and unsure, this is your chance! Just e-mail bigsister_at_geekbabe.com
or simply reply to this mailing and we'll pass it on.
We'll also be running a Big Sister Volunteer appear in this weekend's
general mailing.

Absinthe and D&D:
Cami writes:
How to fill you in on my thoughts on the Absinthe show. I will ask for
sign up and then payment at the Welcome celebration and then I will buy
the tickets the day of.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Thanks, Cami. Do you have the price for this, even if approximate? We
do want to list the price on the activity sign-up screen.
. . . . . . . . . .
Cami continues:
I haven't seen you mention going to drink and drag/krave any of the
nights. I was thinking we can do that either Monday after the welcome
celebration or Tuesday as part of the Fremont Street Experience. let me
know if any of those nights work?
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie continues:
We discussed this two weeks ago. The direct link to the archive of
the mailing is here:
http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/org13arc/0023.html
The item is about 1/2 way down on the page.
To summarize, the best fits for D&D (Krave looks off the radar, at
least for downtown this year) will be Tuesday, as a final meeting
place for both the Bar Crawl and the Fremont Street gang. This
could give us a fairly good crowd as the groups converge.
Also on Sunday, as an "Alternate Common Gathering" after dinner.
D&D can be the "safe but a lot of fun" option, with Margaritaville
being for those who prefer something more in the mainstream.
As I said, if you'll host(ess) D&D, I'll do Margaritaville and we
will have a good mix for that evening. All you'll need to do is to
agree to be there and welcome the others.
As for Monday at D&D, things are still up in the air, unfortunately,
at this time.

Carla's Boutique:
JoAnn writes:
Annie --
There is a place call Carla's in San Jose which provides our community
a venue and services similar to Amy's - Just You- in Vegas .
Her Owner of the shop is Aejaie and she purchased the business from
Carla and has continued to be a real service to our community in San
Jose.
She would like to sponsor a wine & cheese get-together at the LGBT
Center in Las Vegas during the Diva Week.
She will also be bringing a few ladies from San Jose who will sign-up
to attend and she helps them like a Big Sister.
This would be an opportunity for her to be on a larger stage for her
"e-mail boutique business".
See below for a preliminary outline of her program which I would be
wiling to be the volunteer for Diva at this activity.
What are your thoughts and the possibility for a Aejaie to be on
Wednesday's schedule?
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
This will segue' perfectly with the following reception at the EHM
later that evening. I'll get this on the schedule.
I believe I've met Aejaie, who has attended a few years back.
Thanks. :)
