Org List:
This is the DLV 2013 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Filling in details:
Between now and activity sign-up time (three weeks from this
mailing) we'll be collecting and confirming various details
regarding our scheduled activities. This week we'll be confirming
sign-up requirements. See item below.
. . . . .
As everyone will see from the various items below, many of the
activities have now been confirmed and solidified. There are a
number of timeslot changes and adjustments. Please look over the
working schedule below and please note anything that does not appear
to be in order.
. . . . .
Although our schedule has filled out nicely over the past two weeks
or so, we unfortunately have two seemingly endlessly lingering weak
spots:
+Sunday, April 14:
+ 7:00pm: Dining options (various)
+ 7:00pm: Old Homestead option (Caesars Palace) - ms
+ 7:00pm: other dining options (tbd)
+Tuesday, April 16:
+ 6:45pm: Eating Out Night -- NOTE TIMES BELOW (various)
+ 6:45pm: Oscar's dining option (Oscar's - Plaza) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Hard Rock dining option (Hard Rock Cafe HARMON) - ms
Ladies (gentlemen) we need to do something about this! We are badly
in need of at least two more dining options for Sunday evening, and
at least one, preferably two or more dining options for Tuesday.
Our most critical need is for dining on Sunday evening! Something
like "Dinner on your own" is not very "welcoming" on our first
evening!
We'll let this go one more list cycle. If you would like to help
out and are not currently doing anything (you know who you are,
and we do too) :) :) please put your hat in the ring. You don't
need to finalize the details, just state that you will be willing
to help out. Please expect us to be reaching out individually to
those on the volunteer list in the near future.
A trivially-easy one for Sunday and/or Tuesday would be dinner at
the Artisan. You don't need to do anything other than just agree
to be there, smile a lot, and coordinate seating with the staff. No
formality or sign-up or anything unless you really want to do it.
No cold-calling vendors and explaining what we are. They already know
who and what we are and that we'll have people there both evenings.
Please consider it! :)
. . . . . . . . . .
Numbers report:
We've seen quite a spike in registrations since last week!
As of Tuesday morning, we have 174 signed up to attend. The Magic
Machine says that 143 of them will show.
We're seeing some interesting things this year. Two groups of our
attendees have a significantly higher sign-up rate this year. One
of these groups is returnees who missed the last year, as we've
noted before.
The other group is newcomers. It looks like we will have quite a
rush of newcomers, even when we factor in the typical show-up and
no-show rates. As of this time we have 47 newcomers signed up, with
10 of them being local and 37 of them being from out of town.
Statistically, of those 47 we will see 5 locals and 28 from out of
town for a total newcomer projection of 33 so far. We still have
almost two months of registration yet to go and we already have more
newcomers signed up so far than we had in total in 2012!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
JoAnn's Thoughts:
Looking better each mailing--- Your assistance and comments are needed
as follows---
Monday-- Need the barbeque finalized at Artisan by Cynthia [previous
suggestion still hanging]
Tuesday - Need the Scavenger Hunt scheduled with Valerie's & Team set
[see thoughts below]
Thursday- Need the non-limo volunteer for possible alternate to Limo -
both have a final stop at Paris! [still in progress]
So after the above the Sunday's schedule is next to solve
............ How about ........
Three(3) happy hour with dinner venues are needed with Coordinators.
This evening event might theme for the happy hour and dinner as a
"casual - dress down" event. Jeans required... pizza, hamburgers, or
tapas the menu !
We should make it an easy ramp-up evening for the early attendees.
Possibly gather at Good Times at 9pm
Just some thoughts.
Always a thanks with sincere appreciation for all you are doing.
And stay well !
JoAnn

Nathan Burton:
Beverly writes:
> Question: Beverly? How do you want to do the tickets for Nathan
> Burton? Do you want to two-step them? Have everybody get their own?
> How? Also, do you have pricing information?
Answer: This can be a cheap to inexpensive afternoon activity for us.
Prices for Nathan Burton's Comedy/Magic Show range from free to $45.00
I have already secured several (at this time 7) free admittance tickets
for the show. What this gets you is in the door and in the back row of
seats. You can then upgrade to better seats if you wish. Or you can buy
your own seating in better seats as well as VIP booth seating. That will
be left up to the attendees on how they wish to proceed once at the
door.
My past experience for these types of shows have been that they give
away tickets to put butts in the seats. Often that means you get in
and, because the attendance is low, you sit wherever you wish. Last
time I went to one I ended up in the front for free because there
were only 15-20 people there. But there are no guarantees where you
will sit with this approach.
However, for our group that may not matter much. Often times, if there
is a fairly good size crowd, greasing the palms of the show room
manager can get up up close seating. Or you can spring for the $45
VIP seats and have a nice booth that seats 4-6 people.
What I propose is "sign-up required" reservations so I can get a
headcount on participation and we gather out front of the theater 15
minutes early and decide where we want to sit.
Participants are encouraged to secure their own tickets if selected
seating is desired.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Thanks, Beverly.
It sounds like you have this one totally under control.
As an aside, the last time I was involved in planning one of those
"Conventions, not vacations" :) at the LVCC, a firm named (quite
appropriately) Seat Fillers gave us a whole bale of "promotional"
tickets to various shows.
No, Blue Man Group and Jersey Boys were not in there, neither were
any Cirque shows, but there was a good variety of comedy club and
magic and variety shows and such. It sounds like they're doing the
same thing here but promoting it more aggressively to tourists.

Volunteer Recognition:
Beverly writes:
MC for Recognition of Volunteers at Friday night's FC.
Since I am hosting the Bahama Breeze venue I would also like to
volunteer to be the MC for the Volunteers Recognition Reception.
Perhaps Vera would co-host with me. If she is unable to attend this
year's event then I would need another able-body assistant who enjoys
standing up in front of a crowd. I promise to keep this to under 3 hours
(way under!).
. . . . . . . . . .
Yer hired! Go4it! Thanks. :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Pole Dance details:
Valorie writes:
After contacting the pole dance studios, I have decided to go with the
Pole Fitness Studio for 2pm - 3:15pm on Thursday the 18th. In the end,
Thursday works better for my schedule and for the studio and hopefully
still doesn't overlap other DLV activities. I have reserved a party for
16 people with each girl having their own pole. They are welcoming of us
as a mixed transgender group so I don't have any concerns about it being
a fun location. Here is the info for the studio (just west of the 15
near Flamingo).
4265 S. Arville St. #A (Upstairs)
Las Vegas, NV 89103
http://www.polefitnessstudio.com/
It will be $35 per guest + tip. Bev pointed out that there was a handy
online coupon
http://www.vegas4locals.com/couponpolefitnesslasvegas.html
but as long as we have 15 people we won't need it. Based on the response
from the board I don't think we will have any trouble filling up.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Thanks, Valorie. All set! Good job! :) Sounds like this one is very
much under control. I envision a full house and a waiting list and a
very good reception for this one! :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Scavenger Hunt:
Valorie writes:
As for the scavenger hunt, I am flexible with regards to timing though I
think Monday after the Welcome party would still be best. This would
give me Sunday to prepare, and Monday evening is still more open than
Tuesday (Absinthe, Freemont Street), Wednesday (EHM), and Thursday (Limo
tour). Is anyone else interested in joining an organizing team?
. . . . . . . . . .
JoAnn responds:
My I suggest the following as I see "needs" and possibilities.
Tuesday night would not conflict with the Opening Events on Monday and
could complement the Tuesday evening schedule 6:00 pm to midnight the
Scavenger H that included -- Happy Hour, Light Dinner, and Hunt
Activity to midnight.
The staring point could be the Artisan, or....
Get the Teams assigned at Happy Hour, Teams get organized while having
appetizer dinner, Teams set out with a dessert gathering place at 9am,
and return to starting point at ??? midnight to share and have drinks/
awards.
This I think would play well for Valerie and if she can do it on Tuesday
and needs an assistant I am happy to help out on such a schedule.
Also we could meet Tuesday morning to organize the Hunt stops, etc.
JoAnn

Audrey Tour:
Marisa Writes:
The Thursday alt. (Limo meet) is a great idea. Paris (Le Caberet with
the band "Envy" on Thursdays) would be good with bathrooms to the left,
right, straight ahead and more private in the convention area.
Its also close to Cosmo, but short on Limo parking (get a bus with a
pole in it). Bellagio would be great with photo opps in the
conservatory, a guiness record chocolate fountian down the hall ,next
door to Cosmo, limo parking and "Lily" (the bar that consumed "Charles
bar").
Aria at City center has possiblities also since it is sort of connected
to the Cosmo with some private bathrooms in Crystals, good limo parking
and some good bars for "Audrey".
Is the limo riders bladder an issue for this stop?
. . . . . . . . . .
JoAnn responds:
JoAnn Here--
I am thinking of having only three stops for the Limo Tour this year..
Start at Caesars--(1) next "mystery stop" ---(2) Fremont Street---(3)
Bellegio
The final drop-offs would be Bellegio and Paris where we join Audrey's
Group/ "Fashion- It is!"
Limos met with the non-Limos ---
So alternate non-Limo: (1) Meet at Cosmos (Crystals Bar); (2) Bellegio
(Lilly Bar); (3) Paris (Le Caberet) For this we need a volunteer to
coordinate.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
I don't know what to call this. "Audrey Tour" for lack of a better
name, I guess for now. :)
One note, the last time I was in LV on a Thursday, I did wander over
to Paris and it was deejay only, house band not to be seen. Bally's
did have a band that evening.
As for a "bio break" on the Limo Tour, we've had incidents when a
group of our riders have "rushed" a ladies room on occasion over
the years. It's probably best not to note a "potty stop", especially
in a mainstream venue, but continue to suggest that our people go
discreetly and individually, a few at each stop if needed.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Shooting update:
Vanessa writes:
I propose the following listing on the Shooting Activity for the
Schedule:
Thursday 9am-noon "Trap (Shotgun) Shooting-Clark County Shooting
Complex"
Then provide the following description:
Trap (Shotgun) Shooting - Clark County Shooting Complex - Meet at Front
Entrance/Valet Parking at Paris Paris Hotel 9am-noon Join us for a
friendly round of Trap Shooting at the Fabulous Clark County Shooting
Complex. We have reserved a trap field and will have rental shotguns,
shells, ear and eye protection available and expected cost per person
will be $25 payable at the event. Practice shots and a round of 25 clay
pigeons included....top shooters will receive the famed Annie Oakley/DLV
Shooting Award and Trophy. Rental of space at rifle or pistol ranges at
the Complex will also be available for individual shooting. We will
carpool from Paris Paris at 9 am to the Shooting Complex (30 minutes+
each way) so any additional cars to transport the ladies would be
appreciated. We will stop for lunch on the way back to the hotel.
Sign up for the activity is not required but would be appreciated so
we know how many to expect.... capacity is around 15 as we are presently
set up.
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks Vanessa (and Gina). :)
It looks like this one is close to solid as well. Please let us know
if you need anything else.

Trevi confirmation:
Laura writes:
for Trevi it's been set the limit to 50 but expect about 44 to show
up for dinner. Last year it was about 42 with 2 coming very late and
they were on a standby list. Called me that afternoon.
For scheduling I will need a head count so I can inform Trevi one
week before the event.
Last they said no individual receipts but by tables/small groups.
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks, Laura.
Unless there are unforeseen circumstances, we'll have the final
sign-up lists done by the Thursday prior to DLV, so you'll have
a very close count as of that time.
As for the separate checks issue, we'll be requesting that the
attendees please go with the flow on things like this in the LFM.
We had some griping about this last year, not only for Trevi. The
vendors have been very good sports (Trevi and Bahama Breeze in
particular) in giving our people what they want as far as options
such as the full menu, and it's only fair that we meet them half
way and accept things such as one check per table, gratuities
included on the check, etc.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
The Center new location:
This item came in last weekend. I (Annie) responded to it saying
that I would pass it on to the ORG group, which I am doing. :)
I realize that most if not all of our large/medium size activities
are close to solid, but this may be an option if somebody needs a
venue.

Bea writes:
My name is Bea. I think I am registered on DLV as Willa. I'm not sure if
you are the right person to send this to, but do hope you can forward it
on, if not. I wouold just like to make a suggestion for the upcoming DLV
and didn't think it appropriate for the general forum.
I found DLV last September and had my first time out of the house in
October. Since then I have been to several activities. I travel in a
Motor Home ... so I was able to attend the Sparkle in Sacramento, Pride
week in Palm Springs, the Imperial Court coronation in L A and visit LV
several times. Decided to move here for a few months and live in Femme
until my summer job starts in May in California. Sorry, just background.
Anyway... I have been going to the Trans group meetings at The Center in
Las Vegas. They asked for help for moving this week and next. They are
moving into a fabulous new building that was mostly donated. The new
facility is on Maryland just one block north of Charleston. It has a
huge banquet hall that rivals the Ballroom of any strip hotel with full
commerical kitchen for caterer, gender nutral rest rooms, a common area
that is designed as an internet cafe with library, computers, internet
access, and food bar... that would rival any Starbucks or Waldens. They
also have staff area, medical center, youth center, child day care, huge
parking area, basketball court, garden, and meeting rooms.
My suggestion is (if not too late) to try to schedule at least one DLV
activity at The Center so attendees could become familiar with the
facility and location. It would be a perfectly safe and welcome place
for anybody visiting LV on their own to go day or night especially if
they are uncomfortable in public.
You could probably rent the banquet hall for a party, dance, dinner,
etc. It would be totally private and the money would go to help the LGBT
community instead of the Casinos. It would be a great place for the
morning coffee meetings.
Just a suggestion. Hope something can work out. The person(s) to contact
at The Center would be Mel or Arlene. Their website is:
phone is 702 733-9800. They might be busy this week but they are
interested in hearing from anybody at DLV.
