Moving right along:

Again, big thanks go out to those who have helped fill out the
schedule! All of the major bases are covered and quite a few of
the details are being filled in.

We are now two months and one week away from the big event!

Now is the time for those of you who volunteered but are not as
of this time coordinating anything to step forward!

We do need to share the load. We don't want to start asking those
who are already coordinating multiple things to take on yet one
more activity.

We won't name names or reach out individually -- just yet. We do
need to fill in these timeslots and the sooner the better. You know
who you are (and we do too) :) so please pick and evening (Sunday
or Tuesday) and pick an activity or dining venue.

If you don't have any idea of what to do, write in, we'll make some
general or very specific suggestions if you need them.

For those of you who have tentative things planned, now is the time
to pick timeslots and get them solid on the schedule.

Latest numbers:

As of Wednesday morning we have 143 individuals signed up, which
includes 25 SOs. Using the magic formulae which proved to be very
accurate up through 2011, the prediction is that 118 of these will
show.

The percentage of SOs signed up is down somewhat from the mid 2000s,
but consistent with what we've seen the past few years.

Many of our returnees signed up for this year show a last attended
year other than 2012. Those who are relatively new will certainly
see some fresh faces who have indeed attended in the past.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
JoAnn Sez:

We are getting "alignment" on the major activities while spreading them
out over the week. Thanks to all who made that happened!

Now, as Annie mentioned, we really need to hear from those who are
"hanging back". We need your help to suggest an activity and be wiling
to bring along a few "Divites" with you.

The other very important and not fully being explored is the daily
"featured vendor". First, we need a local person to make contact.

Annie will give a listing of those vendor/shops from the past and their
contact person and phone number so we start immediately getting these
shops on the schedule.

The "locals" can do the contact arranging, then we need others to be
the Hostess at the site at least for a couple of hours split at the
beginning and end of the day.

Thanks in advance!!!

JoAnn
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

At JoAnn's request, here is a list of our recent-year featured
vendors and where they stand as of this day, hour, minute, and
second WRT this year. Currently plans are in place or developing

Laundry list:

Local volunteer needed:

We will be in need of somebody local (or at least with a fixed
local mailing address) to receive a few various items. These
will include some books being shipped either from Ginger or
directly from a donor, and perhaps a shipment of name tags. Do
we have any locals who would be willing to receive a few items?

We will not publish the name/address in the list it will only
be given to those who need to send items.
. . . . .

Do we want a Happy Hour on the schedule just prior to PF Chang
on Wednesday? Sara?
. . . . .

Pawn Stars. Orphan! Need somebody to take it over. Going once.
. . . . .

We still need an assistant/understudy/backup for Laura for Trevi
on Thursday evening. See item below.
. . . . .

Marisa is calling for an assistant for the Swap Meet on Wednesday.
See below.
. . . . .

Still in need of dining and after-dinner activities for Sunday and
Tuesday. This is one of our greatest needs at the time.
. . . . . . . . . . .

Commercial activities:

Studio Lites is set for Monday.

As JoAnn stated recently, we would like to feature some kind of a
vendor each day. Those in touch with our ususal and new vendors
please touch base and select timeslots.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Volunteers:

Vivian writes:

I can help with the limo tour.
. . . . .

JoAnn responds:

Vivan and Katie, you are in the game.

A part of this activity is the "before venture" ! Going shopping for
libations and on-site to the Limo company to finalize the arrangements
is very much "showtime". I would hope you can join me on Thursday
morning to follow-up on this part of the event.

JoAnn
. . . . . . . . . .

Pamela Ann writes:

I would like to volunteer to be a hostess at the religious services.
Living so far away I was hesitant but this could help me get my feet
wet.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

Thanks, ladies! :)

Vivian, that makes the Limo Team solid. Thanks again!

Pamela, you'll most likely find that MCC is one of the easier ones.
About the only "busy work" with such a thing is to double-check the
schedule of the services (they have changed in our history) and be
sure our schedule is correct.

If you want to do something more, you can plan for some kind of an
after-church thing (luncheon or something) but that's up to you.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Opening and Deejay thoughts:

Cynthia writes:

> Burning Question #1: Do we want a D.J. at Artisan Monday night?

I say "No, No, No !"

It will be too loud and confusing, disorienting, and distracting.
Artisan is small and botique, and we will be there to socialize and
display, not sing and dance. I 'm sorry I even brought it up and I'm
sure it was offered to us just to hop up drink sales. Artisan won't need
it and neither will we. Vote it down and let's not get stuck with it.
. . . . .

Marisa writes:

What is it with Dj's?

For instance at Blue Ox we ask him to turn the volume down and then
a little later its louder than before! NO on the Dj!
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie Responds:

Nobody in favor of the deejay so far. If you are, please speak now
or forever hold ...

I do agree that the purpose of the evening should be Quality Social
Time<tm>, and that live recorded music (oxymoron?) is certainly not
essential for that.

One advantage I can see to having a deejay is that we would then
have a microphone available, and that would facilitate announcing
things such as a mass-move to the pool area for a group photo,
which was something we decided was impractical in 2011.

Consensus so far is that a deejay is, at best unnecessary and at
worst unwanted. Any dissenting opinions? Going once -- twice ...

Any more comments about the deejay question?
. . . . . . . . . .

Now, shifting gears somewhat ...

Let's hear some chatter from the infield, gang!

We do need to discuss (this means we need input from -- YOU) the
dining and timing of Monday evening, specifically any second-track
before-or-after WC dining options other than Artisan, and how we
are going to handle even the best case of overload of the Artisan
Mood Restaurant that evening.

Monday afternoon-evening schedule now looks like this:

+ 4:00pm: Newcomer Open House (Artisan) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Happy Hour (Artisan) - ms
+ 7:30pm: Welcome Meet And Greet (Artisan) - ms

Our choice appears to be that we can either have a single-track
dining option at the Artisan, as available, with a strong notice
such as:

"Dining will be subject to availability, as the seating capacity and
workload of the kitchen and serving staff permits. Slowness of seating
and serving maybe expected at the peak arrival and serving times."

Perhaps with suggestions that people who want to eat arrive early,
as early as 4:00pm or so.

Or, we can have some second/third track dining options prior to the
main social Meet And Greet period and/or some dining options after
the main Meet And Greet period.
. . . . .

JoAnn responds:

We really should have at least one nearby 8pm dining option.
. . . . .

Comments please.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Nathan Burton:

Bev writes:

According to the tentative schedule it looks like the featured dining
option for Wednesday evening is PF Chang's at Planet Hollywood. If that
is the case, I have an idea for an activity to take place BEFORE DINNER!

There is the Nathan Burton Comedy Magic program at 4:00 at Planet
Hollywood. That would work great as a pre-happy hour/dinner activity. Go
to the show at four, get out at 5:15, head right over to PF Chang's for
cocktails and then dinner... and still have the rest of the night for
EHM or whatever.

Tickets to Nathan Burton can be obtained for as little as $10! I bet the
theatre would love to have a group of our gals there one afternoon. And
yes, I am volunteering to be the hostess for this add-on.

Ok, let's hear everyone's thoughts on this. Of course it would be on
whatever day PF Chang's dinner fell and we will have to see what other
activities it is up against.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, Beverly.

As of this time, the only other item on Wednesday afternoon is the
Pole Dance Lessons at 2:00pm. That is not really a conflict since
a two-hour lesson would be over in time for someone who really
wanted to do both, to do both. :)

It's now on the schedule. If you want to formalize things, you can
do some kind of a bulk ticket thing, or you could use the minimalist
approach and have everyone get their own tickets from whatever
sources.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
EHM and swap:

Marisa writes:

I hope I didn't steal the swap meet idea from anyone. Does anyone
want to help organize it?

They're excited about it at the EHM. There could be smaller swaps
during the week also.

We could start the EHM event at 8:30, if that will be better.
. . . . . . . . . .

Ladies? Any volunteers to assist with the Swap Meet?

The timing of Wednesday evening is totally up to those planning the
various activities. So far it's turning out to be a single-track
evening due to the fact that nobody is jumping up and down wanting
to plan something to go up against it. :)

Those in charge of anything Wednesday, please feel free to adjust
any of the times as you see fit.

One question primarily for Marisa. Do we want a separate line item
(and schedule time) on the schedule for the Swap Meet, or just one
posted start time for the EHM activities in general?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Volunteer thoughts:

Cynthia writes:

> (Jill): I had a thought about Volunteer recognition and appreciation.

I think Jill is onto something here.

Let's do have a Volunteer Meeting and Luncheon at Artisan on Thursday,
but let's hold the Recognition part of it off until Friday afternoon at
the Bahama Breeze where all of our volunteers can be called up and given
something in appreciation and be recognized by the entire membership in
attendance then - group photo too.

Also, Sherry will make an excellent greeter for our Opener, she was
really stunningly dressed last year and needed to be photographed.
Jill, of course. Let's get two more so we can have one hour shifts at
the door and not have to miss out on dinner and socializing by working
straight through.
. . . . . . . . . .

JoAnn responds:

Volunteer Luncheon and separate recognition night --- We need to have a
clearer understanding about the format of the "recognition awards part
of this program".

There were a lot of details for this activity last year. Who is going
to do what this year?

The idea to just to have a discussion feedback session at the Artisan
Luncheon I think is a good so we fit into the schedule to the other
activities to follow, so if you need a person to arrange for the
luncheon and "moderator the feedback -- a fun "at the table" event I
would volunteer for such.

Let's hear more about this from others!

JoAnn
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Volunteer Luncheon timing:

Marisa writes:

Could the low numbers at the V luncheon have to do with the time of
day? Last year was completly impossible for me. sorry
. . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

Good question. I don't know. I suspect that the time of the activity,
12 noon, would be do-able for all but the latest of the late risers.

If we review that day's schedule ...

+Wednesday, April 25:
+ 11:00am: Glamour Boutique Open House (Glamour Boutique) - sv
+ 12:00n: Volunteer Recognition Luncheon (Artisan) - mv
+ 12:00n: Dig This (Dig This) - ms
+ 2:00pm: Bellagio Fine Arts Museum (Bellagio) - ms
+ 2:00pm: Bare Escentuals Makeovers session 1 (Bare E) - ms

We did have the Open House, which would have attracted a modest
number of our people, plus Dig This, which did not have many, plus
the upcoming 2:00pm items may have had some effect.

I definitely would not call it a "poor turnout" at all, in fact it
was our best-attended lunch for the entire event. IIRC, we had a
20-ish crowd for lunch that day, which, IMAO, is not bad. The only
thing I was surprised about was that several of the active volunteers,
including you, were conspicuously absent.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Scavenger Hunt:

Valorie writes:

I am willing to co-organize the Diva Scavenger Hunt (formerly the Diva
Mystery Evening) though I would definitely want help. I love coming up
with new clues (perhaps with a few Great Urban Race style anagrams or
puzzles). The hard part is I still want to be able to run around and
have my picture taken :). I would need a co-hostess to help wrangle
people at the starting point and finish line.

As for timing, I would suggest doing it on Monday either before or after
the "Meet and Greet" at the Artisan (this hotel was also the meeting point
last year). If we go earlier (3-7pm) then finishing teams can trickle in
to the Happy Hour which provides a natural place to share stories. On the
other hand, sometimes the best stories happen at night (9pm-midnight) when
Vegas wakes up and people are feeling more free spirited.

Any suggestions from JoAnn or Walt who organized the original "Mystery
Evening" last year? I don't want to steal this event from anyone and it
would be great to have a mentor.
. . . . .

Annie responds:

Thanks, Valorie.

I would not suggest Monday for such an activity.

Several reasons.

First of all it's an arrival and get-ready day for many of our
folks. Many who will attend the Welcome Celebration will want or
need a couple hours in the later afternoon to get ready.

Planning it for after the WC may work if you adjust the timing to
hit the point at which the crowd actually begins to break up, which
has happened at significantly different times over the years.

Besides, something like the Scavenger Hunt is very "portable", in
that it does not have to happen on a certain day, nor is it in any
way dependent on other things, so this is a good activity to be
used to balance the schedule.

Our greatest needs, at this time, for additional activities are
Sunday and Tuesday evenings. Wednesday has room opposite the EHM,
but I understand the reluctance to go up against it.

I would suggest Tuesday as the best option overall. Please consider
that timeslot.
. . . . . . . . . .

JoAnn responds:

I concur with Annie that Tuesday evening is best.

I would also suggest you can use Monday to finalize all of the clues,
arrangements, etc.

Lastly, I would say you need to reach out and form "a Team" to
implement this event. It takes energy and a lot of pre-planning. You
might want to run it Tuesday evening and Wednesday for part of the day.

Your thoughts, Valorie?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Activities:

Delaney writes:

Three items:

I will be happy to restart doing FSE this year. Sorry I couldn't do it
in 2012, however as you may recall, we had a major contract expiring,
and leaving for a week of vacation at that time might have put me on
permanent vacation. Tue PM is fine, although I think we should meet
other than at the IP, perhaps at the Four Queens - meeting at the IP
didn't pan out in 2011.

I will confirm the current lightshow schedules and set the meeting time
a half an hour or so beforehand. Notionally I would suggest 8:30 on
Tuesday, this also gives girls time for a dinner event beforehand.
. . . . .

In the event that you do an upscale dining one night, I very much
enjoyed the Eiffel restaurant at sunset. I will likely do it one night
in any case, but if there is interest (it is somewhat pricey, and the
drinks are very pricey) I can move to the designated night.
. . . . .

I noticed comments about the Power Exchange and some other "interactive"
clubs in the discussions. Girls should be aware that LV recently passed
an ordinance aimed at closing these clubs. There are pending lawsuits,
but in the end it is a DA decision as to how and when enforcement will
take place.

They are serious about trying to close these clubs - this ordinance came
about after a previous ordinance was tossed by the court as being too
vague, and in reading the revision, you will find this one is very
detailed. While I view it as somewhat unlikely that a problem would
happen to occur during DLV, there is the risk that they could decide to
enter and take action at any time. Given that many girls don't advertise
what they do in Vegas, this ordinance might be a consideration.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

First, thanks for taking FSE! I agree that meeting downtown is a
much better option than trying to assemble at a Strip location
and moving downtown. It's on the schedule. Please let us know if
you want to adjust the start time.

Also, please let us know if you want to have a pre-FSE dining
activity down there, perhaps Mob Bar, Tony Roma's, something like
that.

As for the high-end dining, I (Annie) am thinking of something like
Homestead, S&W, maybe Gallagher's for high-end dining on Sunday. I
definitely want something on terra firma (I'm not afraid of heights,
I'm afraid of falling) and shooting for something we have not done
before for DLV.

Even with that, there would be room for a higher-end option on
Tuesday evening. Perhaps something like Oscar's downtown?

Now, WRT the Power Exchange, I assume you are referring to the
report that hit the wire last week.

Yes, it appears that the Guardians Of The Public Morals are trying
to shut down a few similar clubs, some of which are quite long-lived.

Personally, I think the risk of one of our people being embarrassingly
caught in a surprise bust is much greater at a certain "Lounge", one
which does attract a certain number of our people after hours. It is,
however, one factor to consider when deciding whether or not to put
such an activity such as Power Exchange on our schedule.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Hostess list:

Katie writes:

I think it may help somewhat if we post a list at the beginning of the
Org mailing to indicate who the main hostess is at a specific venue and
who has volunteered to help as assistants.

As we all know, Not everyone is the outgoing type but they might still
want to help in a small way by adding their name to the hostessing
duties if they already know someone who will be there. This may not help
at all but I suspect that some who know one of the hostesses might
become encouraged to add their name to the mix as it would be easier
than diving in the deep end with an unknown group.

I am thinking basically of new attendees or those who might want to get
their feet wet for the first time in a small way but not too deeply.
. . . . . . . . . .

We had this last year, and we'll have it again this year as soon as
our schedule gets a bit more populated. We'll probably start it in
the next few list cycles as soon as we can clear a number of the
remaining unknowns.

This was JoAnn's suggestion last year, and it's done as an extension
of our working schedule. We don't have the "real estate" to do it the
way JoAnn originally suggested, but what we have does work quite well
and it will appear again in the near future.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Golf confirmation:

Danielle writes:

Everything's a go for DLV Golf. They have my deposit. And I've asked Bev
if she would help out, as she has the past two years. Marilyn will as
well, and I'll help her on the High Tea.

For the write-up for golf, I just tried to find the exact copy we used
last year, but couldn't access it. Would you mind forwarding? I really
don't think we need to change much of anything other than the dates, but
I'd like to take another look. The fee will be the same as last year,
$50 for the round, cart, range balls and lunch, paid in advance through
PayPal. One hellofa deal.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, Danielle.

Scanning through the archives, I don't see any obvious "What Is"
type of write-up of the Golf outing in recent years. Last one I
came up with was written by Mindy.

I see a reminder from you posted April 10 last year. There's a
payment notice from you posted March 20, 2011. There's a discussion
of golf in February of 2011.

That's all of the recent traffic I can find.

I would suggest a from-scratch re-write. Sorry that I was unable
to find this. I would write a new one but I'm not a golfer and it
should be one more familiar with golf who writes it.
