Org List:

This is the DLV 2012 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Wrapping up:

Our major focus over the next few weeks is to follow up and take
a look at our overall event.

We have a couple of activity reports which have come in, and we
would like to encourage those of you who coordinated an activity
to please give us a brief summary of how it worked, and if there
were any issues.

We also have some various housekeeping items we'll be taking care
of. This involves such things as updating the mailing list for
volunteers (the list you're receiving now), updating the list of
those of voting status, and the election of the "even year" member
of the Admin Committee.
. . . . . . . . . .

Headcount:

The big news, which is really not good news by any means, is that
we are converging on our final DLV 2012 turnout count.

As of Wednesday morning, the total turnout count stands at 139.

We had a fairly good reponse to our requests for attendance
verification and first-person sightings, and another request
to the stragglers went out this morning. We'll repeat this until
the Law Of Diminishing Returns takes over.

We'll probably squeak by 140, but we'll probably not hit 150.
A total in the 140s will be a significant decrease from our total
count of 169 last year and will be our lowest turnout since our
2007 count of 136.

As mentioned, we're surveying those who did not attend, and we are
getting very good responses both from people who did not register
this year, and from those who registered but did not attend. The
survey will remain on line for another three weeks, and we don't
want to risk contaminating the results by releasing what has come
in so far, but a quick inspection of the data shows that nothing
within our control is responsible for the diminished turnout.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
JoAnn's Words:

"Not by numbers alone do measure success".

While we always like to see higher attendance numbers each year, I
wish to introduce, again, the satisfaction/enjoyment quotation concept
of our post-event survey.

For those who did come to the Diva Gathering 2012 we need to find out if
they felt included and they perceived that their participation was
appreciated. They will be telling us in the survey.

Going forward --- So pleased share your photos because that is part of
our Diva Story which we tell. It also is the sharing for the memories
we enjoy!

Thanks again to all... JoAnn

Katie's Koffee Korner:

Katie writes:

Hi

Katie's Koffee Korner Report.

This was a roaring success. Why all 3 of us were just elbow to elbow
with the empty chairs and tables avoiding the massive crowds at 6:30m
am at Betty's Cyber cafe.

Seriously though I was hoping new girls would show up as it is really
quiet there at 6:30 AM. (Maybe next year).

A0 Anyway I really enjoyed doing it!

After coffee I had planned on herding a small group of interested
parties up the escalators to the Monorail entrance between Harrah's
and the Imperial to take a few pic's, It is quite a nice little spot
with flowers and bushes for a backdrop and it's only a few steps away
from Betty's. Then walking over to Toby Keiths Bar and Grill for pics
with the Guitar sign as a piccy prop. Well we did that anyway but
there was only Bev and I who did any photo taking thereof. (soon to be
seen on the DLV follow up pages)

I am not deterred by the low turnout and will definitely do it again
next year possibly every second day, Hopefully more early risers will
be interested than were this time around. I knew there wouldn't be a
whole lot show up due to the party atmosphere on Monday evening so I
wasn't at all disappointed.

I returned to my room and showered and was on my way out past the Cyber
Caf' when I noticed 2 DLVers from the previous night at the Downtown
venues who had arrived late. Unfortunately I was in a rush to get
somewhere else so I didn't get to say hello. My apologies to those fine
folks.

I don't know if anyone continued the practice the rest of the week as
I had to leave town Thursday morning but I would like to do a repeat
performance of this next year and hopefully I get it on the schedule a
bit earlier as both Bev and I are early risers and I am sure there must
be more of us out there.

My only regret is that I didn't take the advice someone gave previous
to DLV and=A0 recommended all who stayed at IP to buy better light
bulbs for the makeup mirrors. *lol* .... You get what you pay for I
suppose!

Thank's for a great time.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

Thanks, Katie.

If you had three, you did very well and actually got more than I
got for a later-morning activity where free wine was offered!

It will be interesting to see how this does if expanded.

Headcounts and summaries:

Danielle writes:

For my events, here's my report:

Studio Lites.

Annie, you were there, so please add anything. Rick and Chris were
their delightful and helpful selves. I think it worked out fine for
them, as I know several members of our group purchased wigs there. One
thing they did, which was very nice, was put up a framed picture of
Mardi after a makeover, from years ago, along with a slide show from
the same makeover, which they ran on a flat screen TV above their sales
counter.

DLV Golf Tournament

We had 14 players in all. This was a decrease from 21 last year.
Since we promoted the tournament almost the same way as last year, I'm
not sure what to attribute the decrease in players to, other than the
economy still having an effect, which I think we saw in a few other
activities, and registration, as well.

Nonetheless, we had literally no problems. Once again the people at
the course literally could not have been nicer, more helpful and more
cooperative. Even the weather worked out - it was still hot, but
noticeably cooler than the previous days. And, for our fee, not only
did we get green fees, cart and range balls, but they raised the
service for lunch. In previous years, lunch was a hot dog, a bag of
chips and a fountain drink. This year, we could order off the menu...
anything (adult drinks were extra, paid directly by the individuals.)

One thing I asked everyone to do was take a range ball to the first
tee. Then we all lined up, facing the out of bounds area, counted 1,
2, 3 and, together, hit a ball into the rough... and cursed loudly.
This was our wave to the golf gods for taking Mardi away from us.

Then we played the tournament.

Anything else you need, or any questions, just let me know. It's tough
being back to reality.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

I really don't have anything to add for Studio Lites, other than it
was probably the best turnout I've seen for that activity. The
tributes to Mardi were appropriate and appreciated by all, classy
and not fawning, as such things often are.

Yes, Studio Lites is now very much in the wig business, and as you
probably saw, we had an "opinion panel" selecting the style for at
least two of our people. :)

As for the golf turnout, I do agree that the economy is most likely
the primary reason why we saw a diminished turnout for Golf, as
well as for the event as a whole. My guess is that the state of the
economy is finally "catching up" with many of our attendees, and
many of those who were able to ride things out in 2009-2011 were
no longer able to use that "inertia" to allow them to attend.

IMAO, your tribute to Mardi on the course was very appropriate. :)

Idea for introductions:

Danielle writes:

By the way, I have an idea for an informal contest... maybe for the
first big gathering... ask people to tell what they're "supposed" to be
doing during DLV week.

I heard some great ones this year. People could write them down, use
the microphone, whatever... and win a fabulous prize. We could also do
the person who came the farthest, longest number of consecutive years
attending.... And, if the venue works for it, ask the first timers to
stand up, and be welcomed, and maybe take a special picture just of
them, when we do the group photo.

Anyway, thanks again for being the glue that holds it together.
. . . . . . . . . . .

Over the years we've discussed off and on having some kind of a
more structured "welcome program" at our opening gathering, but
when it came to planning such a thing, we always reverted to that
good old Quality Social Time as the feature of the evening. It's
something we can think about when we plan the opening gathering
for next year.

It seems like in this day and age, most of our attendees have
friends, family, and cow-orkers who do indeed know, if not all of
the very intimate details, more or less what is going on, where
they are going, and have an idea of what they are doing. For those
who don't think that friends and family have a clue, if said F&F
are in the least bit suspicious and are somewhat net-savvy, a
few minutes of Googling will leave no doubt. :) :) (LOL, just
for grins, I Googled the expression "las vegas april 22-27" with
no other keywords or hints and guess what came up on the very
first screen!) :)

Still, I'm sure that there are some very imaginative and creative
excuses being used. :) :)

Updating the Volunteer List:

Please take a close look at the following list, making note of if
you ARE or ARE NOT on it.

This is the list of those we have on record as coordinating at
least one DLV activity (or assisting) during either the 2011 or
2012 events or both.

These are the individuals who will have voting status during the
coming year, leading up to DLV 2013.

If you coordinated or assisted with at least one DLV activity in
either 2011 or 2012 and are NOT on this list, please speak up.

This is also the list of the people whose e-mail addresses will be
carried over onto the DLV 2013 ORG list with no further action.

If you ARE NOT on this list and wish to continue participating in
the ORG mailing list, that's the one you are reading right now, the
one we usually try to get out on Wednesday, please do one of the
following:

1. Reply to this mailing and state you wish to be retained on the
ORG list for DLV 2012.

2. Fill out the Volunteer Form, either at the end of the Attendee
Survey, or via the link which will come out in this weekend's
general mailing. The e-mail address you put on this form will be
carried over into the ORG list.

Again, thanks to all volunteers who helped to make DLV 2012 the
success it was, and congratulations to those who have just attained
voting status!

Still Missing In Action:

This list is much shorter than it was last week. Big thanks to those
who either reported in or reported sighting others. This will be the
last time this year we post this to the ORG list, so if you know
that anyone who is listed was indeed present, please reply and say
so.
