Org List:

This is the DLV 2012 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not

Wrapping up:

Over the next few weeks we'll do any more summarizing and analysis
of this year's event before we update the ORG list with the new
volunteers for the 2012-2013 season. (Yes, the clarification of
years was noted and the screen adjusted.) :)

Thanks to those who sent in first-person reports on their various
activities. If you have not sent one in, please do so.

Photo staging links went out Tuesday.

Hint! Have you sent in your photos yet? :)

Survey reminder:

Our survey(s) will close in about two weeks. If you attended and
have not filled out our DLV 2012 Attendee Survey, please surf here
and take the survey:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/2012survey.html

If you did not attend, for any reason, please take our DLV 2012
Non-Attendee Survey, on line here:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/2012nasur.html
. . . . . . . . . .

Final overall numbers:

After all of the sign-in sheets were reconciled, "missing in
action" reports received, stragglers accounted for, and errors
corrected, our final DLV 2012 show-up headcount is:

On-roster primary attendees: 122
On-roster SOs: 25
Off-roster SOs: 1
Late registrants: 1
Approved walk-ins: 1
Approved guests: 2

Total present at DLV 2012: 152.

(For those who saw some off-line conversation regarding a total of
153 last week, this has been adjusted, removing 2 for being counted
twice and adding one straggler who reported as present.)

The final roster is now showing 53 cancellations (a record, by far)
and 21 hardcore no-shows.

Yes, our numbers are down. 2012 was our lowest-attended year since
2009, but overall, this is much better than it first appeared to
be. :) Here are our last 10 years of totals:

2003: 104
2004: 118
2005: 126
2006: 118
2007: 136
2008: 176
2009: 149
2010: 179
2011: 169
2012: 152

Please note that our attendance did decrease from 2005 to 2006,
from 2008 to 2009, and from 2010 to 2011.

If we look at our five year moving average, however, we're still
increasing, at least for this year.

2007: 136 120.4
2008: 176 134.8
2009: 149 141
2010: 179 151.6
2011: 169 161.8
2012: 153 165.2

As to why our attendance is down, we hope to have some concrete
answers when our non-attendee survey results are in at the end
of the month.

Speculation points to the lingering stagnant economy as the main
reason for the lower turnout and the high number of cancellations.

Other events are seeing the same thing this year too. Reports
regarding one other very popular event indicate that not only
overall activity is off, but volunteer participation is way down
from previous years. Fortunately for us, our volunteer activity is
up! :)

As to what we can do about it? Several things! First of all, plan
an absolutely dynamite DLV 2013! We'll plan an event that cannot be
missed! Second, we plan on resuming some means of promotion which
we've "mothballed" the past two years, such as the distribution
of brochures and flyers at other TG events and group meetings.
(We plan on doing this for Pinkfest as well.)

If anyone has an avenue for distribution of brochures, please let
us know and we'll get them to you. We can either supply the final
printed brochures, or the .pdf files which you can either print
or take to a local copy service to be printed.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie's follow-up thoughts:

As to any "at fault" reasons on our part for the lower turnout,
there appear to be very few.

I heard very little griping and b*tching this year. On the other had
I heard a lot of positive comments, and I got the impression that
those who attended and participated really enjoyed it.

The one concern I have is the reported and observed decrease in
turnout at some of our ongoing activities which have always been
better attended.

For example, out of over 100 in-town attendees on Friday, why did
we have only 4 for Lunch With Ginger? Were the other 100-some just
not interested? Not hungry? Not awake yet? Any ideas? Comments?

On the positive side, all of our larger things were well-attended.

I think we could have our opening gathering in the sewer and still
get over 100, just due to the fact that everyone wants to meet the
others and see who's present! The closing gathering at Bahama Breeze
had a great showing, EHM is becoming a defacto third single-track
item, and such things as Trevi and Limo Tour also had respectable
levels of participation.

Another good indicator is that our new volunteer count is up! We
will have a number of new volunteers this coming year and I am
hoping that we can encourage them to become active.

I think our overall strategy of a Sunday-Friday event continues to
work well. The slower start allows people to ease into things and
for later arrivals to participate in the Big Bang opening. The ending
on Friday is, IMAO, one of the best changes we've ever made in the
history of the event! We end on a high note and not on a downward
slide! This was our third strong ending in a row! The strong ending
(actually the lack of same) is what frustrated us for many years!

Thanks again to all, gang! :) Comments?

JoAnn Sez:

When we do so well as we did in 2012 with many events it is a challenge
to think "new" about those activities with lesser attendance.

It is especially difficult at this time to think about new ideas at the
end of our just completed 2012 Event.

Having said such, I see my "role" come January 2013 to think about what
can do that will be new and fun.

I'll be challenging you !!! .... to get all of you new volunteers to
express your ideas and take a little "risk" at sponsoring something that
keeps Diva Las Vegas "the Gathering" we all look forward to attending.
in 2013.

When we get there I'm sure we can surpass the "same old" !!

For now..... Post the photos.... and enjoy the past--- Diva 2012 !!!

Hug, thanks, and we welcome the challenges for 2013... JoAnn

Marrakech and FISM:

Marrakech Restaurant Dinner:

Reported by Rosada Delano -

Hello all of you gorgeous women, and men of Diva Las Vegas!

Boy did we get eyes popping and tongues wagging at Marrakech. The
staff didn't know what to make of us when we suddenly showed up
after a quick Happy Hour at the Firefly across the parking lot from
the Marrakech.

Unfortuantely, HH was just about over when we started to arrive at
the FF. We managed to stay briefly. After a short walk across the
parking lot, we soon found ourselves immersed in the Moroccan culture
of the Marrakech. We came and we conquered.

In reality, the night was a very pleasant evening for the dozen or
so that showed up. One Diva, my memory is terrible when trying to
remember names... sorry about that, left about mid-way through the
dinner. Seems she couldn't handle the quantity of food we wee going
to get served, although I had no doubt she could pretty well handle
the servers without any trouble! In her defense though, it was quite
a feast - six course meal in all, and deliciously prepared, too.

But this style of eating is supposed to be enjoyed at a leisurely pace,
and that's an integral part of the experience. I think she left because
she was not aware that the dining experience at the Marrakech was an
all-night affair, and she had to be somewhere else that evening.

With that said, for those that did stay through the entire meal, Wow!!

We were treated to phenomenal experience, at least I thought it was.
It was mine and Dennis' first time experiencing Moroccan food in a
Moroccan setting. An assortment of great tasting food and lively
entertainment, provided by the beautiful and sultry belly dancer that
was shaking her groove thing all around the tent-like restaurant,
tickled and tantalized all of our 5 senses.

The only problem with restaurants like this is that for large groups
they give you one check. But the staff really tried to make it easy
for us and allowed us to pay individually either by cash or credit
card until the balance was zero.

Another slight point of contention was that these types of restaurants
offer a dining experience with numerous courses which usually have a
set menu with no allowances for substitutions. You eat was is offered,
or you have a choice not to eat it, but you still have to pay for it.
When one diner asked about substituting an item for something else,
she was told they could not do it.

So, if we do this again next year be prepared to stay awhile, relax
and eat at a very comfortable pace, eat all that is provided if you
wish, and enjoy the belly dancing. Thank you all who participated and
made the evening an enjoyable one for all of us.

Your dining companionship was appreciated!

Fantastic Indoor Swap Meet:

Reported by Rosada Delano

Hello all you lovely Las Vegas Fantastic Indoor Swap Meet Divas!

Dennis and I arrived a little early. We were waiting outside for any
other gals that might show up. I saw several other Divas arrive, and
nodded to acknowledge them, and they walked on in, since there wasn't
a formal check for this event.

Soon we were joined by Ms. Beverly. The reason I arranged for this
activity was to introduce any new girl to DLV to the FISM. It's truly
a place every Diva should go to at least once while in Las Vegas.
Very casual, informal, and comfortable.

We did get a few stares but nothing threatening and, once you smile
at he vendors they were okay. Like one vendor told me, they see it
all here in Las Vegas!

For the Diva that does go, she is bound to find something there.
There is everything there - Jewelry, makeup, shoes, clothes, wigs,
accessories, etc. It's really like a candy store for Divas.

After shopping, no one else wanted to accompany Dennis and me for
lunch. As I had stated in the DLV discussion we were going to go to
a local fast food Mexican taco shop, and we found the perfect one
down the street from the swap meet. It was Pepe's Tacos. Pepe's has
three restaurants in the Las Vegas area. Their tacos al pastor -
seasoned pork on a rotating vertical spit - waiting to be shaved onto
a warm corn tortilla made the perfect light lunch. Didn't want to get
too full for the Farewell dinner that same night. Anyway, I will
definitely be back to this place. Thanks to all who made it an
enjoyable experience. It was fun.

Hope to see you next year.

Sunday Sunday Sunday:

Walter writes:

Headcount for Sunday Religious Service: four (4) (myself, Jane, and a
couple that I checked-in and the names of whom I do not recall)

Comments: Sunday Religious Service: a very nice social hour (10:00 to
11:00) preceded the hour long non-denominational service. All attendees
and the Pastor were very accepting and outgoing and friendly; I hope I
have opportunity to host this event for Diva 2013

Reporting headcount for Sunday "Lunch with Alanna" as an attendee rather
than coordinator: three (3) (myself, Jane, and of course Alanna)

Comments: Sunday lunch with Alanna was very nice and afforded decent and
ample opportunity to chat with Alanna and Jane getting to know both
ladies better than I had prior. Small turnout was not really a surprise
and was conducive to conversation. (commented-upon as an attendee)

Reporting headcount for Tuesday "Red Rock Hike" as an attendee rather
than coordinator: seven (7) (myself, Gabi, Marissa, Katrinka, Gloria,
Sabrina, and apologies to Sabrina's companion, whose name I have
forgotten at the moment)

Comments: First, many thanks to Katrinka and Sabrina for driving. I
enjoyed the walk, and hope to see this event remain on the schedule,
perhaps expanding to include a picnic lunch, also, I volunteer to work
with Gabi to expand/improve/continue this alternative-to-other-events-
event for Diva 2013.

All-in-all, I enjoyed Diva 2012 very much. I had previously attended
Diva 2010, arriving part-way through the schedule. Being present for the
entirety of the event makes for a more satisfying and enjoyable event!
I am looking forward to next year!

Namaste, I was 1 of 4 people there that night.

Also 7 people bowled at Drink and Drag Monday.

Hiking and such:

Gabi writes:

Red Rock hiking had 7 attend using 2 cars. It was a gorgeous day and the
views were amazing. We visited the visitor center then began to drive
around the circle getting out at several hiking places. Next year I
think a bit more planning around which places to hike into. Several have
suggested we bring a pick nic lunch to have before we head back.

Truly an amazing out of the town experience. For those who look for a
break from the noise and energy of the strip this is a great place to
go. We all gave money to the drivers. The entire day was very
inexpensive.

The Mexican option had 15 attend Chapulas. The food there is amazing the
prices are amazingly low. Portions are very generous.

I had a couple of beers and a full meal for $15.00. The service was
excellent. This restaurant is an absolute place to go when visiting Las
Vegas.

Went back again later in the week for breakfast.

I think this year's Diva was really wonderful.

High Tea:

Marilyn writes:

The High-Tea had 14 show up out of the 19 who signed up. All 14 paid.

As always, the Four Seasons was terrific, they even provided me (a
type II diabetic) with sugar-free desserts.

Lots of good conversation with both our regular tea-goers and some
DLVers at their first tea. Per custom, we took pictures on the spiral
staircase afterwards, hope to see them on the web-site.
