Org List:

This is the DLV 2012 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Touching base:

This was intended to be an early touch-base mailing, but it has
expanded. Between now and DLV, our ORG mailings will be coming
out as needed. We'll most likely have at least two more before
the big event.

As of this time (Tuesday morning) all edits, adjustments, etc.,
which were noted in response to last Thursday's mailing are in
place. Any additional edits or corrections, please let us know.

Not all responses are included here. In particular those which
simply requested information or a minor edit were answered off
line.
. . . . .

We had a couple hours of system downtime this morning. Server crash,
and the provider's tech team got it straightened out quickly. It's
due to unforeseen incidents such as this that we don't recommend
that you rely entirely upon on-line schedules and such. Please
print out hardcopies! :)

For the most part, things continue to go smoothly. See the various
items below for specifics on a few things.

But first, some revised numbers.

Unfortunately we had many cancellations this past weekend, with
some of them being very familiar names. :( No "derogs" or FOAD type
comments, but mostly citing things like travel expense, job loss,
shortage of $$$, and family situations.

There are also some "SO cancellations", where SO attending was
changed from YES to NO. We also identified a few cross-registered
couples, despite the notes and admonitions on how to register as a
couple, and this inflated our numbers to some degree.

There's still going to be a very good turnout! New registrations
are still coming in at an average of 1 per day and the rate of
follow-through for activity sign-ups has been very good for the
later registrants.

As of Monday night we have a reconfirmed headcount of 152, of which
28 are SOs. 35 sign-up responses are still outstanding, and history
says that about half of those will eventually be cancelled due to
failing to show any sign of life.

Bottom line: Best realistic guess of total turnout is somewhere in
the 150s somewhere.

Further updates as they come in.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Joann's Strategy:

We are in the batting cage and the ball machine is "on steroids" and the
cage door is broken and we are locked in.

As the batter staying "in control" means stay in the batter's box and
decide to think about swinging only at every third ball, and let the
others pass no matter what.

Welcome Event is the third ball... coming April 18th.. If no 100%
confirmation at D&D, then Luna Rosa it IS !!!

The decision must be a hit, forget any home run.... go to Luna Rosa and
make it work ... it may turn into a inside park home run; in the least,
it will be a safe hit to first base!"

JoAnn

Activity sign-up:

If any Coordinators need the link to the activity sign-up info and
have not received it, please write in.

As of this day and time, it appears that about 80% of the activity
sign-up responses that will be coming in are in. Since many of the
late respondees sign up for few or no optional activities, you can
estimate that your individual sign-up lists are about 85% complete.

Here are the latest notes on some various activities ...

Sunday Beginner Dinner. "Full" sign is up. Waiting list is about 10
deep at this time.

Tony Roma's Dinner is full. No waiting list as of this time.

The capacity of the Mob Bar Dinner is set to 30 and the estimated
show-up count is now 27.1. FULL flag is NOT up at this time, but
will go up when the estimated show-up exceeds 30 unless Marisa
says otherwise.

Marrakech FULL flag is up and the waiting list is currently 5
deep. Estimated show-up is 13.7. Rosada, we'll close the sign-up
on this as you requested on the 17th. and give you a final roster
the way it stands as of that time. More on this below.

Diva Mystery evening FULL flag is up. Waiting list is 12 deep as
of this time. We'll keep JoAnn and Walter advised on how things
progress.

Both Bare Escentuals sessions are full. Waiting list is one deep
for each as of this time. Most of those signed up for these sessions
are newcomers, so some fall-out can be expected.

Trevi Dinner FULL flag is up. Estimated turnout is currently 44.6

Limo Tour is full with 14 on the waiting list. The turnout estimate
is right at capacity, so those currently on the waiting list will
most likely all be cleared.

Macy's Makeover session 1 will probably hit capacity by the time
activity sign-up closes.

All others appear to be comfortably within capacity.

Pre-DLV gathering:

Marisa writes:

Some pre-DLV posibilities:

Mrbslv.com may be the best one to get our foot in the door on, because
it looks like they have room for large groups and seems to be less
family oriented (not that there's anything wrong with that).

They have a large bar, big patio, good size dining area and abanquet room.

HH is 3-6 and 11pm-4am ($2 wells and beer) It's located just S. of Sands
on the E. side of Paradise.

Sataylasvegas.com is located in the complex by FF and very close to
Marrakech (stop in and check it out when your there Rosada). They don't
have a bar, but there is a big patio and nice size dining area (sat. HH
11am-6pm just drinks,m-f 5-8 drinks and food).

Amy (Glamour Boutique) has been going to Ricardo's Mexican Restaurant at
Flamingo and Decatur now that she is located at 3400 W Desert Inn and
hasn't been going to PT's since she moved from the Sahara location. Some
Glamour Boutique people will be dancing at Charlies for their 3rd sat.
of the month GNO (girls night out) starting at 9:30 if anyone wants to
join them also.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

Of all of the places you mentioned, I think Mr. B's has the best
potential to draw out a meaningful number of our in-town people on
Saturday. The large bar and the menu that I know will be popular
with many (pizza, etc.) are both big plusses. Besides, this is a
very easy drive or taxi ride from all of our suggested hotels.

Any comments or objections to Mr. B's? Any others that Marisa
suggested that would be better in your opinion?

Any other suggestions?

Welcome Celebration status:

Here is the latest information on the status of the Welcome
Celebration, which is still planned for Drink And Drag. We're
optimistic that there will be no venue change, and we have been
assured that yes, the facility will be available for our use on
Monday the 23rd.

Due to the concerns and the uncertainty of the new venue, there
are several contingency plans in place, covering cases including
a literal last-second venue issue.

We have a group working on the Welcome Celebration which has been
communicating daily. There have been several on-site visits and
contacts with the venue management. We realize that the situation
is still somewhat iffy, but the group in charge of this activity
have worked very well together and have made the absolute best of
the hand which has been dealt!

In particular, big thanks go out to Cami, Marisa, and Cynthia, who
have been doing the "heavy lifting" on this project!

Now, from a tactical standpoint, here are the plans ...

First of all, we ask that you please do not go posting these venues
in public or passing the word on any alternate plans unless they
are put in place. It's no secret (MAJOR misunderstanding here) but
our experience throughout the years has shown that if alternate
venues for an activity are made known, some will show up in the
wrong place!

The management of D&D has offered us the use of Krave should Drink
And Drag not be available. This has been the primary fallback plan,
but this has one major issue, and that is that dreaded "move" from
downtown to the Strip. Our history has shown that when such a move
happens, not everyone who leaves A ends up at B.

The most likely option, as JoAnn has mentioned, is to simply move
the Welcome Celebration one floor down to Luna Rossa should D&D not
be available. They have more than enough room and we have a group of
about 40 dining there just before the WC as well.

Two other options have been discussed, making a total of four which
would be workable, so there are back-ups on the back-ups and nobody
should be concerned about being left high and dry on Monday.

The group planning the Welcome Celebration have busted their @$$es
to make this thing work, and they deserve our thanks and support!

Mob Museum:

Marisa writes:

The Mob museum can be 100 cap. and add Bob as a cohost.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, Marisa. Got it.
. . . . . . . . . .

Marisa continues:

I went through the Mob museum today and it would take all day to
read and see everything.

This will most likely end up being one of the best-liked daytime
activities. Currently there are 41 signed up for it and the Magic
Machine says 32.9 of them will show. There will be a very good
showing from our group for sure!

Katie's Koffee Korner:

Katie writes:

Hi Gang.

I thought I might give some directions and guidelines for the **Tuesday
Morning** Gathering Spot for those who may not be familiar with The
Imperial Palace.

The Cafe is called **Betty's Diner and Cyber Cafe**. It is located on
the ground floor at the East end of The imperial Palace Casino.
(Opposite end from the main entrance if you arrive by cab) So From the
casino floor, head towards the little Boutique Mall and elevator banks
and Betty's is at the end of the mall on your your right hand side.

>From the parking, (Use the 2nd floor level) , or from the Mono Rail
entrance Betty's is down the two short escalators and it will present
itself right in front of you. I will be there from 6:30am till around
7:30 and if we are not in the cafe we will be nearby up a short level at
the small gathering area which has a few tables set out just for this
purpose. Don't worry about v connecting with our little group. We will
be recognizable and will be looking out for you.

If this works well I will do it again next year,-Likely daily..
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, Katie.

We'll add the specific location to the details in the Large Final
Mailing.

It will be very interesting to see how well this works at that
time in the morning.

LaCage:

Sabrina writes:

Ok Cynthia, I will see what I can do about scheduling "An evening at La
Cage". I think if its going to happen it will have to be Thursday night.
Which means it will mess up dinner, which is no big deal for me.

We can schedule an early or late dinner that night for any of us going.
As it is "Phantom" has the same problem as well. So I will try and get a
hold of Jimmy or one of the other cast and see if I can work any deals
out of them if not, it will just be the door price.

Please put "An evening at La Cage" on the schedule for Thursday night.
Show is at 7:30 at the Riviera on the second floor in in the "Crazy
Girls" showroom. If its at all possible please make this event a
signup, if not that's okay as well.

A little update about La Cage. I believe we will have a discount for
tickets but I will need a number from a sign up, else I may only be able
to get ~ 20 tickets. Other than that La Cage is a go as far as I am
concerned. Now does any one want to be a co-hostess for this event?
Bev ?
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

Thanks Sabrina. It's on the schedule.

Unfortunately this did not get scheduled in time for a formal sign-up
to happen. We'll note in the LFM that people should contact you for
possible discount tickets.

I would suggest that you play dinner by ear, after the show, and just
pick a venue in the area which most of your gang can agree on.

Happy Hour for Marrakech:

Rosada writes:

> Do you want to increase the capacity at Marrakech?

Yes, if there is an interest by all means. I was playing it safe with
the 12 but if it looks like more are wanting to attend well, lets
increase it. Again, I need a number by the 17th.

> We have Firefly down currently for the HH location. If Rosada wants
> this to be changed, we can do so, but the sign-up screen says that

It's all settled then. Firefly it is as it states in the activity sign
up. Thanks all.

As for dress for the Marrakesh, I would suggest something not too fancy
for the reasons stated by Katie. I also noted to look at the Marrakesh
Photo album to get some idea on how to dress. I don't want anyone to
dirty their pretty little gowns. I would have suggested we dress like
belly dancers but then we might have gotten confused with the
restaurant's belly dancers and then be put to work entertaining the
guests. LOL!!! : )
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, Rosada. We'll update the dress suggestions in the final
schedule.

Capacity and photos:

Sara writes:

Hello, Re: Event Caps - Let's up PF Chang's to 45. I believe the
adjacent booths have room for nearly 15 more and I know that last year
we squeezed a few extras around the main tables. I think our actual
turn-out last ye= ar was 40.

Re: Photography by Diana.

Her and I talked about putting together a private makeover/photography
session but this year, she's all good with just vacationing for a few
days so it's not a big deal if the photography at BB doesn't come
though.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, Sara.

Capacity has been updated.

Let's cross our fingers WRT getting the Gazebo Room this year! :)
