Weekly updates:
This mailing list is now being hosted on a new server. If you
sent in anything and do not see at least a referenct to it,
please send in a reminder.
. . . . .
One big one (show) down! Thanks, Rosada! Thursday after dinner is
now essentially complete. Just a couple of weaker spots left to
fill in, and of course we'll have the expected personal issues
which may call for some substitution and pinch-hitting.
Still need a volunteer to take Crystal's place with Namaste
(Indian cuisine) on Tuesday. This is an easy one. Contact has
been made. No cold calling, no explaining, etc.
We'll also need a pinch-hitter for Metropolitan Community Church
on Sunday. (see below) This, again, is a very easy one. No "real
work" is involved. Just agree to be there on time and welcome the
others. This would be a great one for a first-year volunteer!
We still could use a second (small-medium) dining option for
Thursday evening. Even though Trevi has assured us they could
handle "up to 60", it would be nice to have another option for
dinner on Thursday.

All Coordinators and assistants please check the Coordinator list
toward the bottom of this mailing. Please be sure all items are
correct and all assistants are listed.

JoAnn's Words:
As a friend of mine once said about attending a Kiwanis Convention
[applied to the Diva Gathering]--- There was never an activity I didn't
like.
As the DIVA Schedule develops I continue see many activities that mirror
my friend's comment. If you cannot find activities to fill your day,
then you are not reading the schedule.
So continue the efforts Org Group in the next three weeks to add to as
we finalize the schedule "for everyone everyday"!
Keep up the good work.
JoAnn

Show and shopping:
Rosada writes:
Dennis & I want to go see Phantom at the Venetian this year. We are
willing to act as hosts to anyone that wishes to join us for this event
and to provide an alternative activity for Thursday night.
Yes, we will definitely take the minimalist approach. I've named the
show (check), we agree to be there to welcome others (check), and
attendees will buy tickets on their own (check).
Ticket price I've seen for Phantom so far is $81.00. There might be some
discounts available but I'll have to check if they can be applied to the
Thursday evening show. It is not a requirement that we all sit together
as a group. After we purchase our tickets I will be able to let you know
which seats we'll be in that way you can purchase tickets in the same
area if you wish.
. . . . .
Annie responds:
Thanks for taking this on, Rosada. DLV without a show would be like,
well, DLV without a show! :)
We'll note the ticket purchase requirement on the sign-up screen
as well as where the host/hostess will be sitting.
Last I knew, the discount ticket booth just inside of Bill's was
selling same-day tickets for Phantom at some very good prices, so
this may be an option for some.
. . . . . . . . . .
Rosada continues:
Also for Thursday late morning/early afternoon, I'm willing to meet
a group at the Great Las Vegas Indoor Swap Meet on Decatur to look
around and perhaps purchase any special items. Maybe something will
catch our eye for Friday's Farewell dinner.
I remember our very own Mindy telling me she purchased this one-of-kind
white beaded long length dress there. It was gorgeous.
So, one never knows what treasure you might find there to take back home
with you. Then, after we're through we can head on over to a local taco
shop for a fast food Mexican lunch. I've checked out a few that are
nearby within driving distance that sound really good and frequented by
the local denizens.
. . . . .
Annie responds:
Before we schedule this, you may want to confirm the days/hours for
this. The Fantastic Indoor Swapmeet has, for years, only been open
on Friday-Saturday-Sunday and a quick check of their web site shows
that this is still the case.
Please let us know if they are now open Thursday, or if you want to
reschedule for Friday, or cancel.

Mexican dining:
Gabi writes:
Dinner Tuesday night will be mexican and I will go with your suggestion
of Chapaplas. Any other thoughts ladies about a place?
I would like there to be a sign up so I have some ides of the numbers.
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks, Gabi.
We'll mark this "sign-up requested" and you'll get reports after
activity sign-up begins.

Hike timing:
Bob writes:
Please change the hike to Thursday @ 10am
. . . . .
Annie responds:
Done. I think it's a much better fit on Thursday and rounds out the
calendar.
Bob and Gabi: Please select a rendezvous point for the hike so we
can add it to the map and such.
. . . . . . . . . .
Walt writes:
Gabi and Annie, I am respectfully-resquesting that consideration be
given to moving start-time for the hike to exactly the same time as
the golf. My reason for this request is to afford ample time to get
an enjoyable hike, then change ones' shoes/freshen-up prior to
"lunch with Alanna"... I thank you both (all three, since Bob should
be part of the decision-team) for your time and consideration.
Additionally, I do wish to volunteer to chauffer... I should have a
car capable of seating 3 guests (maybe 4 if slender-guests elect to
ride with me).
. . . . .
Annie responds:
It's really up to Bob and Gabi as to the timing.
However, historically speaking, morning activities get a much better
turnout the later they start. If something is of high interest (such
as golf or shooting) to some, yes, it will work earlier, but for a
general-interest activity such as a hike, a later start means a
better turnout.
As for lunch, although I can't speak for this particular hike, but
for most "outdoorsy" activities we've had in the past, the gang
has usually done lunch on the way back after the activity.
I hope this will work out for you.

Artisan Art Tour:
Katie writes:
Hi All.
Sorry but I am booked up for the Monday afternoon already with my wife
so I won't be able to do any DLVing till' much later in the day. I
would love to have helped out but alas Family must come first. Maybe
next year! I am only available to help with the Monday evening opener,
The Wednesday Lunch time thingy and maybe Tuesday night if anyone asks
me early enough!
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks, Katie.
One thing we do need on Tuesday evening is for someone to take over
for Crystal at Namaste. Contact has been made, so there will be no
cold-calling or anything awkward. Will you consider this, please?

Religious services:
Eileen writes:
Events have come up, that will prevent me from attending the opening
of DLV. Therefore I will not be able to host the Church Services on
Sunday.
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks for letting us know, Eileen. Hope you can still make it for
the majority of the week!
All: We'll need a substitute host(ess) for MCC in order for it to
stay on the schedule. This is an incredibly easy one, an easy ticket
to voting status, and a great one for a new volunteer or one who is
looking to build confidence. The congregation is 90%+ GLBT and it's
about the most comfortable atmosphere there is.
If you're a new volunteer, or if you are planning to attend this
anyway, please consider relieving Eileen on this.

Alternative Common Gathering:
Cynthia writes:
> Segue the Alt. CG or list the Artisan Disco seperately ??
Hi all,
Re: Let's just segue the Sun. 8:30pm Alt. Common Gathering into
Artisan's 10:00pm Service Industry Disco and not list it seperately
on our schedule.
These things are open to the public anyway, and if you're feeling
frisky stick around for it, if not head for Margaritaville - which
is in my opinion the more alternative of the two.
But the upshot is you can just vamp around any old way you want to.
. . . . . . . . . .
Gotcha. Thanks. Schedule stays as is.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Trevi update:
Laura T. writes:
Reservations made with Trevi. Still have their full menu.
Unfortunately they can't individual checks this time. Checks will be by
tables. They are willing to create separate smaller tables(groups)
instead of the longer tables we are used to for Diva. I think smaller
would work better, what do you think?
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
You're the doctor, and I agree with your opinion. Smaller tables
mean smaller checks and fewer issues, and that alone is enough to
convince me.
Also, smaller tables are less conspicuous. If you think about it,
when you are seated at one of those longer tables, the number of
people with whom you can comfortably converse is limited to those
immediatly beside you and directly across from you. Pretty much
the same number you would have at a smaller table. :)
Whenever I host(ess) a dining activity at DLV, I'll always split
the group up and use available tables for those reasons. Besides,
the wait staff appreciates not having to stop what they are doing
and re-arrange smaller tables into one big honking one!
Thanks again for taking this one on and sorry for the digression. :)
