Org List:

This is the DLV 2012 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Closing in:

This mailing has been delayed due to a minor issue with some new
equipment. Sorry about the delay.

March is our last full month in which to plan. At the end of March
we will launch activity sign-up. At that point in time, any and all
activities which need a sign-up or a headcount will need to be solid
as far as most details are concerned.

This means that anything not yet on the schedule which requires some
kind of a sign-up needs to be scheduled very soon. Anything placed
on the schedule after activity sign-up has started needs to be on
a "no sign-up, just show up" basis.
. . . . .

>From now until DLV, it's very important that if anything is not going
to happen as planned, that we know about it sooner rather than later.
If anyone's not going to be able to make it, or if any activities are
at risk, please say so and the sooner the better.
. . . . .

Reminder:

If you send something in response to one of our mailings and do
not see at least a reference to it in a subsequent mailing, please
send in a reminder. E-mail is not a perfect medium and humans do
make mistakes. Please be assured that such things are oversights
or technical errors and not snubs.
. . . . .

Correction:

Rosada will be host(ess)ing MOROCCAN Dining on Tuesday. The error
may have been due to someone going prematurely blonde. :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
JoAnn Sez:

We are almost there... schedule and the start of the DIVA 2012 Gathering.

As Annie points out there are a few holes needing filling. The rewards
of volunteering gives those who do so the ultimate high during the
attendance of our Gathering. Don't miss the opportunity to help and
enjoy the rewards of all the "thank you s" and hugs from those who
attend your activity you sponsor.

Thanks in advance to all you volunteers.

JoAnn

Volunteering and pinch-hitting:

This particular note goes out to those who are volunteers but
have not yet volunteered to take the lead on any activity for
DLV 2012. You know who you are. (And we do too). :)

Now is the time to step forward. Your help is needed.

We do need to fill in some weak spots, and in one case we need
someone to pinch-hit for another who will not be able to make it
this year.

Specifically, here is where we need help:

1. Show (or shows). We have no shows on our schedule so far this
year. There's been discussion, but so far nobody has committed to
coordinating one.

This (coordinating a show) does not have to be a high-maintenance
function. For a minimalist approach, name a show and agree to be
there to welcome the others. Have the attendees purchase tickets
on their own.

Of course if you want to do something more in the way of organizing,
you can. At many of the smaller shows, it's quite po$$ible to get a
group paying $eparately $eated together if you $how $ome con$ideration
to the $howroom $taff! :)

Nora has sent in some highbrow-leaning suggestions below. Options
for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday would fit well on the schedule.

There are also shows of all kinds at the various resorts.

We don't want to see 2012 be the first show-less DLV in our history!
. . . . .

2. Replacement host(ess) for Namaste on Tuesday. See below. This is
an easy one! Contact has been made. No cold-calling and explaining
our group, etc. The staff loves us!
. . . . .

3. One more (smaller) dining option Tuesday evening. Very little
"real work" should be necessary. Pick a venue, almost anything
except Indian, Moroccan, or Mexican, and agree to be there.
. . . . .

4. One more (medium size) dining option on Thursday.

This may require some coordination. The one dining venue we have
on the schedule (Trevi) can't handle the whole group. Anything
other than Italian would be appropriate.
. . . . .

5. A few more after-dinner activities on Tuesday. This space is
just SCREAMING for a show!

Some kind of a touristy option would work well here too.
. . . . .

6. Ditto on Thursday. The "anchor" activity, the Limo Tour, can't
handle everyone. A lower-priced show would be a great fit here!

Please consider stepping forward and agreeing to host(ess) one of
these activities. :)
. . . . . . . . . .

The only activities which we're showing as unscheduled but really
truly going to happen are one open house and some various makeover
options. If there are any others we're forgetting, please remind!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Hiking on Tuesday:

Gabi writes:

Bob and are are working on a hike Tuesday.

More details to come but we will want a sign up and a car commitment. We
have a couple of folks very interested.
. . . . .

Bob writes:

I made a proposal to Gabi about doing a hike, but haven't heard
anything from her, yet. I suggested Thursday, as it seems to be a
very slow day. I cannot do this by myself.
. . . . .

Annie responds:

If you (Gabi and Bob) need each other's contact information, please
let us know and we'll get it for you.

We'll mark this tentatively on Tuesday with sign-up required. It can
be changed to Thursday if the two of you agree on it. We'll add notes
about carpooling on the sign-up screen.

Please choose a rendezvous point, confirm the date and a time to meet.
The time noted below is a place holder.
. . . . . . . . . .

Gabi continues:

Is the mexican dining option taken for Tuesday night?

If it is could I be assistant hostess?
. . . . .

We have you down as volunteering for this some time ago. We do
need you to pick a place. Chapala's on Tropicana (702-451-8141)
has been mentioned and suggested, but the venue is your call.

Smith Center for the Performing arts:

Four of the greatest musicians in the world are coming together to
amaze and inspire you. Cello master Yo-Yo Ma, winner of more than 15
Grammys, will be joined by the sensational guitarist duo The Assad
Brothers and acclaimed British pianist Kathryn Stott. Together, they

Paco de Lucia

April 25 (Wednesday), 2012, 7:30pm
The most innovative and influential flamenco artist of the last thirty
years, de Lucia's flamenco recordings have had a revolutionary impact,
infusing new life into the art form and bringing it worldwide attention.
His groundbreaking collaborations with jazz artists (John McLaughlin,
Chick Corea, and Larry Coryell) and his participation in notable
soundtracks have brought him to the attention of a broad audience.

An Evening with David Sedaris
http://www.thesmithcenter.com/events/david-sedaris/
April 26 (Thursday), 2012, 7:30pm

With sardonic wit and incisive social critiques, David Sedaris has
become one of America's pre-eminent humor writers. The great skill
with which he slices through cultural euphemisms and political
correctness proves that Sedaris is a master of satire and one of the
most observant writers addressing the human condition today.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, Nora.

There you go, gang. Three suggestions, one each for Tuesday,
Wednesday, and Thursday.

All it takes for any of these to happen is for someone to adopt
one or more of them and agree to do the legwork.

Volunteers?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Show:

Katie writes:

Hi All.

I can't run a show as I will be busy during the week. I Can however
assist with hostessing one if someone decides to step in and organize
one. This may help someone to decide to run the customary production
show and if it does I will do all I can as long as it is on Tuesday.

Sorry to be so direct and precise as to the day but this is all I
can do and it would be a pity not to have a show as an activity for
DLV.
. . . . . . . . .

For a show to happen, somebody is going to have to volunteer to
take the lead on it. We've attended shows during DLV each year
since 1997.

All: This is one of our most significant needs at this time.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Extended Alternative Common Gathering:

Cynthia writes:

Just a heads-up on the Alternative Common Gathering scheduled at
Artisan for 8:30pm Sunday night the 22nd:

Artisan has a regularly scheduled Service Industry Disco Night
scheduled starting aroung 10:00ish or so on Sunday too. These will
be mostly Las Vegans who work in the food and drink service
industry here locally and they should take kindly to us as long as
we're looking our loveliest. They're quite open minded and are
used to catering to a large popular audience of customers and
visitors.

Take time to make friends and socialize with them and I'm sure they
will return the compliment. This is a grand opportunity to firm up
our relations with the locals and Artisan as well while showing
ourselves off, and may open the door to other future opportunities
for us. I don't expect a large turnout of them as there is so much
competition for the party crowd in LV now, but do expect a few for
the evening. Prepare to have a wonderful time .
. . . . . . . . . .

Cynthia, do we want to list this on the schedule as a separate line
item, or do we just want the Alternative Common Gathering to segue'
into this?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Hostessing:

Cynthia writes:

Please list Katie as hostess for the 3:00pm Artisan Art Tour and
the 4:00pm Beginners Open House for Monday, and the D & D WC Opener
too if she's interested. I'm definately going to need her help at
the Art Tour because I don't know a damn thing about art, tee hee,
and my arthritis won't allow me much prolonged standing anymore.
Some hostess help would be greatly appreciated and Katie will make
a good one.
. . . . . . . . . .

Got Katie down for the WC. We'll add to BOH and Art Tour as well.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Regrets:

Crystal writes:

I hate to do this and I have struggled with this decision the last week
or so, but regrettably, I cannot attend DLV this year.

Because the status of things is uncertain, I feel that I must back out
of any commitments that I have made. I am sorry.

I know that I have an EON activity on the schedule. If anyone is looking
to do one of those and is having trouble choosing a restaurant, they may
certainly take Namaste from me. Turnout was very good there last year
and the owner loved us and in fact dedicated a couple of songs that she
personally sang to our group. It couldn't have been nicer. I am sure
that many of the girls will enjoy it.

A happy hour option isn't difficult. You suggested Crews'n and that is
nearby so I would second that as a place to meet before dinner. I also
offered to help Marilyn collect money for High Tea. High Tea is such a
wonderful event that I am sure that she will have no problem finding
someone to help her in my absence.

Again, I apologize. I felt that it would be better to back out now
instead of waiting any longer to make that decision. It would be unfair
to back out at the very last minute and leave a hole in the activity
schedule and leave Marilyn short-handed.
. . . . . . . . . .

Sorry to hear this, Crystal. Yes, you will be missed.

All: We need a pinch-hitter here. Contact has been made and the ice
has been broken. No "heavy lifting" involved. Please consider
adopting this one.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Photography, Changs, makeovers:

Sara writes:

I have never seen the smaller room so I assume that from what you are
saying, there'd be no room for the photography. I can check with Diana
on the opening night option but I'm pretty sure she's looking to come
out at the end of the week rather than the beginning. I
will keep you posted.
. . . . .

Annie responds:

I'm sure you have seen the smaller room, but you may not have paid
any attention to it. If you walk from the room we had last year to
the restrooms, when you pass the entrance you will notice a seating
area to yor right. This will be before you come to the bar on your
left. This is the area we've had in the past.

We've had almost 100 in there, but there probably won't be enough
room for the photo thing.

If your photographer friend does not want to come for the Welcome
Celebration, another option might be to take appointments and do it
in a hotel room.
. . . . . . . . . .

Sara continues:

Wednesday night, P.F. Chang's, we are all set & confirmed as follows:

+Hi Sara, Your large party reservation is confirmed for: Wednesday,
+April 25, 2012 6:00pm 8:00pm, 30 people on the balcony 3 long tables
+(booths will be seated with other guests) 1 CHECK PER TABLE ORDER OFF
+THE REGULAR MENU, Please confirm that you've receive this.

+If you need anything else, let me know. Other than that, you are all
+set.

This arrangement pretty much mirrors that of last year. No set menu. No
minimums. We started the process with a random number of attendees and
as sign-ups proceeded, I was able to update the restaurant accordingly.
I think the final reservation last year ended up being in the 40+ range
with overflow anticipated to be sent to the restaurant proper. However,
we ended up with 51 total and there are booths in the balcony area which
accommodated our group, keeping us close together.

One important point, because EHM is scheduled for 8:00 p.m., wouldn't it
make sense to move this dinner to 5:00 or 5:30??? Please let me know as
soon as possible so I can convey this change if necessary. I think it
would be a good idea.
. . . . .

Annie responds:

Timing can be adjusted, and this is really your call. We do have
HHs scheduled for 5:00pm, so if you want you could do a Happy
Half-Hour (like we used to do at Pinkfest) and start the dining
either officially or unofficially at 5:30.

Another thing to keep in mind is that EHM does not have a "hard
start", so being fashionably late will not be an issue.

I do suggest, however, that we keep the two HH options and the
two dining options scheduled at the same time, whatever is agreed
upon, if only to reduce confusion.
. . . . . . . . . .

Sara continues:

Re: Macy's makeovers, I have confirmed that we are good to go for this
year. The two participating counters are Estee Lauder and Benefit (my
Dior artist friend has moved over to Benefit and I'm looking forward to
trying out some of their products).

They can accommodate as many of us who wish to attend, possibly at other
counters so there will be no cap on sign-ups as there was last year.
Besides, we had 12 sign up last year and only 6 actually showed up. I
hope that this year we can get at least into double-digits for those
attending this activity.
. . . . .

Annie responds:

Please let us know what on the schedule, if anyting, you want to be
adjusted on this.

Also, big thanks for taking all of this on! :)
