Org List:
This is the DLV 2012 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

This Mailing:
Please read the notes below regarding the Welcome Celebration and
let us know your thoughts. We have some decisions to make.
And no, by simply responding you're not going to get shanghaied
into volunteering to coordinate it! :) We have enthusiastic
volunteers working on the various options.
. . . . .
Things are starting to fall into place very nicely. Big thanks to
those who have volunteered to host(ess) activities, small and
large!
. . . . .
Newcomer registration (for the list) opens this weekend. Plans
are for general (cold) registration to open the last weekend in
February.
. . . . .
Heads up! Two month warning. Plans are for activity sign-up to
open on or about April 1. Any activity which will need a sign-up
or a headcount will need to be solid as to time, location, and
major details at that time.
Another heads up! Three month warning. DLV is only three months
away. :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
JoAnn's Words:
We are in what I call the Brainstorming Phase of our scheduling which
means no idea is bad. I refuse to make a judgement about any activity
in February --- the month of Valentines--- sending messages.
Good messages don't require judgement.
However, the feedback and decision process will "take hold" in March.
So please dialog, exchange ideas, and provide clarity about those
suggested activities.... keep them coming.
Hugs... and thanks....JoAnn

Much shorter than last week's list. Big thanks to all who have
cleared items.
We're asking those named below to please give us a response, up or

something similar this year.
. . . . . . . . . .
+SO/Partners Champagne Brunch: Rosada, Dennis
+Harmony Nail Spa Open House: Norma
+Frank Marino Show: (Bev), Katie

Welcome Celebration:
Ladies? (Gentlemen?) we have some decisions to make and need some
guidance as to which way to proceed.
Wheels have been turning behind the scenes and we now have two
promising venues for a Welcome Celebration, with two variations
being discussed on one of them.
The venues are:
1. Artisan. This is what we used last year, which resulted in our
best-attended Welcome Celebration in our history. Cynthia is
reporting a loosening of the hard-and-fast requirements they said
they had this year, so it's a real possibility of a re-run of the
very successful 2011 Welcome Celebration in more or less the same
format.
2. Drink And Drag. This is a new club/gaming/bowling center in
the Neonopolis complex downtown. Although the term "drag" is in
their name, their target audience is primarily the mainstream
downtown crowd. Cami has made contact with their people and is
discussing options. We foresee two possible themes as outlined
below.
. . . . . . . . . .
Options:
The first option would be very similar to last year, and would
consist of a three part evening. Happy Hour at 6:00pm. Dinner
at 7:00pm, subject to availability depending on constraints of
capacity and staff workload. Quality Social Time continuing
after dinner.
Group photo would be possible IFF we have a well-planned and
choreographed procedure for announcing the photo and rounding
up all of the people and getting them herded out to the photo
area around the pool.
This would result in a Monday schedule such as:
1:00pm: Lunch With Ginger (anywhere)
3:00pm: Art tour or similar (anywhere)
6:00pm: Happy Hour (Artisan)
7:00pm: Dinner (Artisan)
8:30pm: Welcome Celebration (Artisan)
9:30pm: Official Group Photo (Artisan)
10:00pm: Various after-dinner options (wherever)
. . . . .
The second option revolves around Drink And Drag downtown. For
this option we have the three-part Happy Hour, Dinner, and
Welcome Celebration at Drink And Drag, similar to what we did
at Artisan, Firefly, and Blue Ox.
The bad news here is that Drink And Drag does not have the food
service we need. We would have to have the food brought in.
Cami has been in touch with a caterer who is proposing a buffet
for $30-ish per person. There may be other options for food at
different price points.
This would result in a Monday schedule similar to this:
1:00pm: Lunch With Ginger (anywhere)
3:00pm: Art tour or similar (anywhere)
6:00pm: Happy Hour (Drink And Drag)
7:00pm: Dinner (Drink And Drag)
8:30pm: Welcome Celebration (Drink And Drag)
10:00pm: Various after-dinner options (Downtown)
Bowling (Drink And Drag)
Karaoke (Beauty Bar)
Video/Pinball gaming (Insert Coins)
Neonopolis or Fremont Street Experience could be used for a
group photo.
. . . . .
The third option focuses on downtown for Monday afternoon and
evening and has dining in smaller groups at various places in
the downtown area, followed by a common Welcome Celebration at
Drink And Drag.
1:00pm: Lunch With Ginger (MSS Buffet)
3:00pm: Art tour or similar (Downtown or Art District)
6:00pm: Happy Hour Options (Downtown area)
7:00pm: Dinner Options (Downtown area)
8:30pm: Welcome Celebration (Drink And Drag)
10:00pm: Various after-WC options (Downtown)
Bowling (Drink And Drag)
Karaoke (Beauty Bar)
Video/Pinball gaming (Insert Coins)
. . . . . . . . . .
Ladies? (Gentlemen?) We need feedback on these options. What
do and what do you not like about these three options? If none
of the above are acceptable to you, please suggest alternatives.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Big Sister volunteers needed:
The Big Sister Program is one of our shining stars!
We know that some of you reading this are where you are, in part,
due to a Diva Las Vegas Big Sister.
We would like to ask all of you to please consider volunteering
to be a Big Sister if you have not done so already.
Being a Big Sister does not need to be a high-maintenance
function. You as a Big Sister are free to set limits on exactly
how you help your Little Sister(s) and the amount of time doing
so.
We need Big Sisters in two areas. You can serve in one area or
both.
1. Prior to DLV, correspond with those who are new and need some
advice and reassurance. One-on-one personal support prior to the
event.
2. During DLV. Be available to assist and assure as needed. Some
Big Sisters go as far as to pick up their Little Sisters at the
airport, but things like this are up to you.
The best way to volunteer to be a Big Sister is to fill out the
form on the web. Just go back to that link that was sent to you
right after you registered. (If you've lost or misplaced it, let
us know and we will resend.) Answer a few questions and you're
all set. Alternately, or to ask questions about the Big Sister
Program, e-mail: bigsister_at_geekbabe.com
Big thanks to Nora for coordinating the Big Sister Program!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Shooting:
Gina writes:
I'll plan the shooting event, I'm going to try and attend at least
Thursday and Friday, depends on new work schedule. And the Charles
tribute in conjunction with the limo tour. Shooting needs to be Friday
morning. 0900 or so.
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks, Gina. :)
It's on the schedule. Please let us know details as the date
approaches.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Margaritaville, etc.:
Sabrina writes:
Hi, I can host Margaritaville again this year if we need a HH
and dinner. Its an enjoyable venue with overlook on the strip
and outside bar and dinning on the third floor.
Yes La Cage is alive and well with original members still in the
show. If you think there would be enough interest for another show
one evening I would be happy to arrange and host "La Cage" at the
four queens.
Are we doing a "Freemont Experience" this year? If so it would be
a natural to combine the two given the location.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Thanks Sabrina! :)
Yes, we need dining activities. We've penciled yours in for Sunday
as you had it last year, if that will work for you. This one sounds
like fun, and I (Annie) plan to do this option this year. :)
La Cage would fit a number of places on our schedule. If you want
to "adopt" it, let us know and we'll put it on the schedule when
you want. It can be as simple as telling those who want to attend
to purchase their own tickets and all you would need to do is be
there to welcome them, or you could go through the necessary
contortions to get the group seated together, etc., if you wish.
As to where on the schedule it would work, Tuesday, as one of
several after-dinner options, Wednesday, as a second-track option
against the EHM, or Thursday evening as a second-track option
against the Limo Tour would all work well. The 4 Queens Web site
lists a 9:00pm show each of those nights.
What might work well is a Happy Hour and Dinner in the downtown
area before the show on any of those evenings.
As discussed above, one of our options for our big opener, two of
them, actually, are centered around Fremont Street. This will be
Monday, and the schedule has a 7:00pm show on Monday, which would
conflict with the various Welcome activities, so Monday is not a
good night for La Cage.
One of the Welcome options is to have Monday afternoon and evening
centered around downtown, reviving a thought-dead suggestion to
have a day or evening downtown. We really won't know if this is
going to happen until we get feedback as requested above.
Delaney has volunteered to host(ess) an evening downtown, so if
we don't do the WC downtown, an evening focusing on downtown
could fit in Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Dinner and Glamour:
Gabi writes:
I would like to change what I organize this year. I noticed a
few dining openings. I would love to be a hostess for a dinner.
I don't know much about what would be good.
I will do glamour boutique if no one steps up to the plate. This
is my third year and I still want to try new things.
I would also love to be part of any group that goes out of town
for the day.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Thanks, Gabi! :)
Yes, we're definitely in need for dining options. Since most of
our "big gun" activities are falling into place, our greatest
need is for small to medium scale Happy Hour and Dinner options
for several evenings, such as:
1. Sunday evening. We're in need of one more medium-size or two
smaller dinner options to round out Sunday evening. Just about
anything, buffet, Asian, Mexican, Italian, steak house, barbeque,
Continental, even coffee shop or food court would work. Wide open
in this timeslot.
2. Possibly Monday evening at a place downtown if we go for the
option of small/medium group dining prior to the WC at Drink And
Drag. Stay tuned for details.
3. Tuesday as an Eating Out Night option. Smaller things for this
evening, and just about anything would work.
4. Thursday evening. We'll be needing one medium-size option or
two smaller options as a second/third track against Trevi. About
anything except Italian would be a good fit that evening.
Those who act first have the most options, and there are many
dinner timeslots open at this time.
If you need any specific suggestions on what restaurant to use,
let us know what type of cuisine you have in mind and we'll give
you some starting points.
. . . . .
All: Is anyone besides Gabi interested in being the DLV liaison
for the Glamour Boutique Open House this year?
. . . . .
As far as side trips out of town, if you want to sponsor one,
the opportunities are endless. We apparently will not be repeating
the Shiloh Horse Rescue this year, so this is a blank slate. If
you need suggestions, please ask. Almost any day during the
morning and afternoon would work.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Art and EHM Tours:
Sarah writes:
I'd like to pencil in the Neon Museum for Tuesday Afternoon
(2:00) and The Bellagio Fine Arts Museum on Wednesday afternoon
(2:00). Details will follow as we get closer to the event.
. . . . . . . . . . .
Thanks, Sarah, they're both on the schedule.
. . . . . . . . . . .
Sarah continues:
EHM:
We've started working on the plans and they will be getting the
bar license for our night.
They are also planning a display that will focus more on the
Crossdressing end of the TG spectrum. Right now they plan to
put it up in the "Chapel" area just off the main lobby. They
have quite a bit of the material they need for the display
already and will be looking for in-kind and cash donations
to finish it up. They estimate they will need about $200 for
the display.
If anyone wants to contribute there will be a variety of options.
A) send a donation directly to the Erotic Heritage Museum,
3275 Industrial Road, Las Vegas, NV 89109 and let them know
it's for the DLV exhibit.
B) make a donation via their web page:
http://www.eroticheritagemuseumlasvegas.com/
- but I would suggest sending an email to let them know what
you've done.
C) Finally, we will be putting a donation jar out during our
evening there.
Regardless of the amount of donations in advance, I'll make sure
the display is funded since it was my idea anyway. The more they
end up with, the more likely the display, or part of it will become
a permanent part of the museum.
They have also worked with Miss Vera, a transformation artist in
NYC who has published a book and is well known on the convention
circut. She will be sending some items and has offered to come
and be part of the evening, but although she had a place to stay
in Las Vegas would need travel funds.
I told them it wasn't likely that we could or would support this
kind of expense but I would pass it along if anyone wanted to be
"sugar daddy" for this. It just doesn't have the feel of a DLV
event to me, but we've been told to think out of the box. I just
don't want to think us into a box that makes the event cost
prohibitive.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Thanks, Sarah. :)
It appears that your affair at the EHM will effectively be a third
major gathering for DLV this year.
The relaxed dress code (I assume the same this year), availability
of adult beverages, and the word of mouth regarding last year's
EHM session can only result in an impressive turnout for the
evening!
Your best chance for a good collective contribution would be in
real-time. I might suggest some in-person solicitation as well
as a collection jar by the bar area. The largest cash flow of
the evening will be at the bar, so that's the stream you want to
target.
Miss Vera's Academy is well known. I know we've had DLVers do
various courses there. It ain't cheap, however!
I really do not foresee DLV funding the airfare for Miss Vera
(or anyone, actually) to attend any DLV function.
And, IMAO, thinking INSIDE the constraints of the box would be
flying in a noted person in the TG community. Thinking OUTSIDE
of the box would be planning a unique and enjoyable activity
for DLV which is not replicated at any other TG event, which
you have done! :)
Now, about the new exhibit being planned ...
(DLV Organizer's hat off ...)
I would hope that a scholarly and intended-informative exhibit
on transgenderism would adequately show the diversity and breadth
of the TG community to the Great Unwashed Masses.
As I (think I) said, I really don't remember that much about the
TG exhibit at EHM so I know it didn't strike me as being either
incredibly good or incredibly bad. From reading between the lines,
I get the impression that some thought it did not adequately
cover their situation, or perhaps appeared myopic in scope from
one's point of view.
I would encourage those who are planning another TG exhibit to
be as inclusive as possible and present, to the public, a well
rounded and complete view of our community, and be careful of
ending up with two "tunnel vision" exhibits.
(dismounting from high horse ...) :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Weak spots:
Susan writes:
I'm still uncertain if I will be able to attend this year's DLV.
When I know for certain that I can come, I will try something to
fill a possible weak spot, such as Tuesday or Wednesday evening.
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks, Susan.
We certainly hope that you are able to attend. Please let us know
when you know for sure. There will certainly be openings for more
activities of various kinds.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Change of plans:
Katie writes:
Hi Gang.
I have had to change my plans and will only be in Vegas Sunday
till' Thursday But I would really like help with hostessing the
Opener and possibly dining out Tuesday and / or Wednesday evenings.
Ir any show outings which might pop up between now and the big event
on the schedule for those nights.
Sorry about the change of plans I fully intended to get much more
involved this year but unfortunately I must be somewhere else later
in DLV week.
Please let me know if I can be of any help to make an event go
more smoothly.
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks Katie.
We can definitely use the help on Monday at the opening bash.
As for dining, we're in need for a number of smaller dining
options on Tuesday. They can be any type of cuisine, any
scale, and anything from minimalist to structured. Please
consider host(ess)ing one of these.
A show, any type, any scale, would be a good fit either on
Tuesday or as a second-track option opposite EHM on Wednesday.
Please think over what you want to do here.
