Org List:
This is the DLV 2012 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Moving forward:
Another rather long mailing. This is a Good Thing, as many things
will need to happen as we go forward with the planning of DLV.
Thanks to all who have responded to the requests in last week's
mailing.
We ask those whose "names were called" in last week's mailing
who have not responded to please do so as soon as is practical.
Unfortunately we have a few responses from those who will not be
able to be with us this year.
If there's any good news here, it's that we found out about these
four months in advance and not at the last minute. We do thank
those who let us know they would not be with us for informing us
at this time.
. . . . .
We will be needing a volunteer to work with Alanna on the closing
evening. See items below. Consensus (noted in various comments
below) is that Bahama Breeze is the way we should go.
Likewise, Cynthia can use some help in the area of venue selection
for the opening bash. See various below.
. . . . .
Many of the activities mentioned in this mailing would fit very
well as either:
1. One of several multi-track options on Tuesday.
2. A second/third track option opposite EHM on Wednesday.
3. A second/third track option opposite the Limo Tour on Thursday.
Right now, all three evenings are wide open, and it's first-come
first-served for timeslot selection. If you're coordinating any
of the items which would fit in these timeslots, please let us
know your preference ASAP, particularly if you want either Wednesday
or Thursday evenings.
We are particularly interested in new and different activities
this year. Use your imagination. Think outside of the box! :)
. . . . .
If any volunteers need other volunteers' contact information,
please let us know. We'll exchange contact info as needed.
. . . . .
Latest numbers:
As of Wednesday morning we have a total of 98 individuals signed
up. The magic machine says that out of these, 88 will show. This
is about half of our record turnout in 2010. Should this trend
continue, we can expect a very heavy, perhaps record turnout in
April!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Joann's Thoughts:
As we fill the activity slots, many repeat activities I would hope we
can give a new "make-over" with a new dimensions or "value added" for
the activity.
An example, Limo Tour--- I am considering that at one of the stops we
have a street jazz group greeting the group to "bring special attention"
to our arrival at that particular stop? Are what other ideas do we
have from the Org Group for this event or any other event.
We need to be thinking of "*new twists*" to the repeat events.
Maybe at a Dinner event .... "have this gorgeous guy" ask for her??? in
our Group and then sing a ballad to her in front of the entire group,
followed, by a "group song"? Wow!! just may arrange this for myself
!!...forget you all!
We need to work on a Transformation--- your own [ hopefully you are
continually doing such because every lady "is a process-in-work" ]...
and more importantly what can be our "makeover" for the Events we have
organize in the past and will be doing this coming year.!!. Same
event... "new twist"
Need ideas NOW, .... judgements later,..... and volunteers to make them
happen... and ?????
January "the Renaissance", ... February "let's do",... and a March
"delivery".
Hugs ... JoAnn

Opening evening:
All: We need to circle the wagons on this one and move forward
toward a plan for our opening evening.
Cynthia and Marisa are our local "boots on the ground" here, but
this is everyone's job.
We need YOUR thoughts and feedback ("inside the box" or "outside
the box") on this very important function.
. . . . .
Cynthia writes:
S.O.S to any of you locals: If you've got any good ideas or
connections, let me hear from you. I'll be glad to work with
you or just go get 'em yourselves and take all the credit.
. . . . .
Marisa writes:
If anyone has a venue for the WC, just do it.
. . . . .
Marisa and Cynthia, if possible can you two please get together
and go over the options we've discussed.
The "short list" of items which have been mentioned are:
1. Downtown Cocktail Room. They seemed to want to work with us
last year, but they did not have food service. It may be worth
circling back to them again.
2. Drink And Drag. We don't know if they have room for a gang of
100 or not, but they may be worth checking out. Cami Desiree has
expressed interest in this one so she may be able to help. It
may be worth visiting them and seeing if they want a very large
amount of bar business on an otherwise slow Monday. See Cami's
late note below.
3. Las Palmas Mariachi. These folks have a lot of room and will
most likely be willing to work with us. They'll most likely give
us the full menu as well. Not the best neighborhood, but ...
4. The larger remaining Blue Ox. The Ahronson brothers should be
familiar with our group and Nora reported that one of their
remaining places should be able to hold us.
Of course, if you feel like it, you can give another shot at the
Artisan, remind them of the amount of bar business they would be
getting ... :)
All, if anyone has any further suggestions on a WC venue, please
say so.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Closing festivities:
Alanna writes:
Hello Everyone
I would love to continue with the farewell celebration as needed.
I would also love to toss out a new idea. I would love to see
Beverly take over the first chair of the final event, and I will
be there to offer any advice she may require. I think Beverly
has the perfect personality to be the hostess of the final event
and I would welcome being her wing girl during her first year.
I promised Ginger I would take over some of the lunches for her
this year. I would like to honor that request if she still desires.
I would also like to offer my experience and fearless nature to
anyone being a hostess for the first time that could use a second
chair with years of experience. I can serve in this role better
than just being the lead of a single event. As always just enjoy
being a part of this event and look forward to many years of fun
yet enjoyed.
. . . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
I would agree with you that Beverly would be a very good fit for
the lead position on the closing festivities. Unfortunately (see
below) Beverly will not be with us this year. :(
I'm sure we can get you someone to work with you on this. We've
put out a call to get someone to work with you on this. If we
don't get responses, we'll go over the volunteer responses as we
do have a number of people who said they would be interested in
coordinating or helping with dining activities.
As for the daily lunch, please pick the days you would like to
host(ess) and we'll adjust things. The lunch locations shown on
the schedule at this time are the "usual suspects" used as place
holders and to test the "hooks" to the Google Maps from the
schedule. Just let us know if you want to change any locations.
To all: If you're a new volunteer and want some guidance,
Alanna has volunteered to help. Let us know and we'll provide
contact information.

Regrets:
Beverly writes:
It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that, at this time, I
will not be able to attend DLV2012. I have been looking forward to this
year's event since I boarded the plane leaving last year's event.
Unfortunately, it is not going to work out for me to get back to Las
Vegas in April. Therefore, I will be unable to repeat hosting/co-hosting
any of the activities that I was involved with last year=3B ie: Frank
Marino show, Mexican dinner with Rosada, golf outing with Danielle and
Mardi, and closing HH/dinner at Bahama Beach. Please feel free to allow
other volunteers to assume those roles.
I will miss seeing all of my friends as well and making new ones. To
those first timers attending this year, you will enjoy yourself=85 just
be sure to thoroughly read the notices from DLV so you know what to
expect. And a word of caution, don't try to do everything. Allow
yourself some downtime, especially later in the week as you will get
very tired. And above all, bring comfortable shoes! You will need them.
Thanks to all of the organizers and volunteers for hosting such an
outstanding event. I will truly miss it and will hope to be back with
you in 2013.
All my love,
Beverly Wayne
PS: if I win the lottery I will be there in a heartbeat!
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks for letting us know in advance, Beverly. It goes without
saying that you will be dearly missed. We'll keep hoping that
your lottery ticket is a winner. :)

Fremont Street:
Delaney writes:

Annie,
Yes, I'd be happy to do so.
Delaney
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks, Delaney.
As the schedule develops, please select a timeslot and let us
know what it is. This is a good Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday fit
assuming we don't do a "Focus on Downtown" thing Sunday.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Drink and Drag:
Cami Desiree writes:
So I took the liberty to call and see about us going some night. I spoke
to a nice salesperson who will get back with me. It looks cool and will
open mid Feb. I mentioned the nights of the 24th-26th. Should I continue
checking it out?
. . . . . . . . . .
Yes, please, continue. Thanks for checking this out.
April 24th. (Tuesday) or April 26th. (Thursday) would work well
for a stand-alone activity there.
A couple other things to keep in mind, and you might want to touch
base with your contact person and perhaps loop in Cynthia and/or
Marisa, is check to see how many people their facility can handle
and if they want a large amount of bar business on an otherwise
slow Monday night. If this looks promising for an opening night
thing, let's get details and discuss it here.
Bowling could actually be that "new twist" on the Welcome
Celebration. :)

Dancing and Firefly:
Marisa writes:
I'll plan on dancing at Paris Fri. at 9:30 or if Kimberly from
Seattle is attending this year, does she want it back? We could
add Napoleons or dancing at Bally's to handle overflow also.
Firefly would be a good weekday dining option. The 5pm HH, dine
at 6 worked quite well last year before the EHM (HH prices end
at 6 and we beat the busy dining crowd). Don't know what day it will
fit the best though, I want to see what is going to happen at the
EHM this year, it could be a major event.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Thanks Marisa.
We now had Dancing At Paris on the schedule for Friday, starting
at 9:30pm. It does not appear that Kimberly will be with us this
year.
As for Firefly, let's pencil that in prior to the EHM on
Wednesday, same timing as last year. If you want to change this,
let us know. EHM starts at 8:00pm this year so we will not have
the time crunch we had last year between dinner and EHM.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Beginner activities and cars:
Jane writes:
I would be willing to help with the beginners event.
The main person who made this happen will have to want to do it
again this year or someone else who can make it happen.
I think a nite out for dinner is a great idea. A possibility is
the pizza place we went to last year. Although I was a little over
dress for this place, I felt very comfortable and think it would
be a great place for newbee's.
. . . . .
Since I am the one who suggested the Carol Shelby museum, I would
be willing to try to make it happen if there is enough interest.
We would have to car pool to get there. Dressing up in nice clothes
is not my only interest and maybe there are others who likes to see
fast cars like I do. I could stuff three people into my car providing
they are toward the small size to fit in the back seat, it is a
tracker. Two smaller people in the back and the front could seat a
large person.
I plan to be in LV at the end of Feb the 1st of March time frame.

Cynthia writes:
I regret to tell you that I will not be working with the Beginners
Open House Event this year since I'm up to my neck in alligators
now looking for an Opener.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Thanks Jane and Cynthia.
We haven't heard from Sarona regarding her plans yet.
Sarona? Got yer ears on? :)
There are all kinds of possibilities for beginner activities and
the model that's been used (Open House) for the past few years
could be adjusted if necessary. Perhaps a social and dinner could
be used as an alternative to the Open House.
The Shelby exhibit would fit very well almost any afternoon, Just
pick a timeslot and let us know what you select. Almost all days
and times are open as of now.

Dining, Makeovers, ending:
Sara writes:
Here are my responses, I hope I touch upon all of the items which
required a reply...
Dinner Wednesday evening (last year's was PF Chang's). Yes, I will
attempt to coordinate this again. It seemed to work really well.
Macy's Makeover Experience. Again, yes to trying this again. I may
try to do this on Wednesday instead of Friday though because I
would like to try to make the High Tea this year and it seems to me
that event is typically on Friday afternoon.
My 2-cents on the ending bash. I'm totally a creature of habit. If
it works, I'd do it again (see above). In the case of Bahama Breeze,
the entire thing just works so well on every level. The room is
perfect. The food is just fine. The drinks are outstanding, as is the
staff. It seems they keep us on pins & needles about actually getting
the room should another group come in before our event with a deposit.
After doing this with them for three years in a row, I'd think we have
the clout and track record to be able to be assured the room under the
no-deposit terms we've enjoyed in the past. Obviously this will be an
issue for whoever coordinates the ending bash including whether BB is
even on the short list but again, this is simply my observations on
the subject.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Thanks, Sara.
Please let us know your preferred dates and timeslots for all of
your activities.
Yes, the High Tea has been on Friday in recent years, but that is
not set in stone. We've seen it on Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday
over the years. It's really up to the High Tea volunteers as to
when it will happen.

Tea, EON, themes, performance:
Crystal writes:
Hi everyone!
I'm happy to assist the primary organizer with High Tea again this year.
I can certainly run around and help collect money, give directions,
explain the event, etc. No problem there.
I'm willing to do another EON, probably at Namaste again. We had a
really good turnout last year and the owner couldn't have been lovelier.
She is also a singer and performs live at the restaurant. She dedicated
a couple of songs to our group. It was fun.
I like a theme activity. Although I haven't thought of a theme yet, I
did think of a location. Parasol Up or Parasol Down at the Wynn could be
a fun spot for the girls to get together. I am willing to coordinate
this.
I read Rosada's suggestion regarding David de Alba. Perhaps, Spotlight
would let us use their stage one night for David to perform and we can
pass the hat. There's never a cover at Spotlight, the drinks are
inexpensive and they're already set-up for small performances. Just an
idea.
Again, I'm willing to be an emergency contact person like last year. My
phone is always on.
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks, Crystal.
We'll put Namaste on the schedule for EON, subject to change if you
wish.
We haven't heard from any of the other High Tea volunteers yet. If
we don't hear anything (for this and a few other items) during the
next list cycle, we'll start rattling cages.
It would be rather difficult for David D. to perform at Spotlight
since it closed a few months ago. :( Crewsn (just down the street)
might be good for this. Crewsn would also be a good Happy Hour
location for Namaste. Please let us know if you want to go that way.

Clubbing and such:
Nikki writes:
Pencil me in again for LNC at Krave (night tba). A few of us also
went to Pure last year and were very well received. I'm an east coast
girl who likes to party late. I could potentially hostess late night
clubbing (being that I do it anyway) Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
nights.
Two dollar Tuesday would be a great start. I just need info on
reasonably safe places that do this promo.
I wouldn't mind being involved in the bar crawl but I will have to
solidify transportation on my end before I commit to anything.
I don't think we need an official drag entertainer for the farewell
dinner. The entertainment we've had in the past has been excellent.
Although if someone wanted to coordinate with the DJ and perform a
number as an add on.... Any thoughts?
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks Nikki.
Please let us know which night(s) you wish to host(ess) clubbing.
Yes, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, any or all of them, will
work.
As for the Bar Crawl, I (Annie) have coordinated this several
years without having a vehicle. Each year we had more than
enough seats from those who were driving. As a backup plan I
had the dispatch number for Whittlesea/Henderson Taxi in my
cell phone in the event we didn't have enough seats to get
from point A to point B.

Neon, Art, EHM:
Sarah writes:
>+Neon Museum: Sarah
>Good reports for this one. Sarah? Feel like repeating?
I'd be happy to do it if there is enough interest.
According to their web page they plan to be doing construction on
the renovated La Concha office that will become the new visitor
center. Other than that it should be just about the same as last
year, a very interesting look at the art and history of signs in
(and beyond) Las Vegas.
It took about an hour and a half and is main stream, but limited
exposure since it's off the strip, north of downtown. Once you are
there, the only people who are around are others on the tour and
last year they were wonderful companions.
Last year we were in Las Vegas between exhibits at the Bellagio
Museum of Fine Arts and we missed that. It looks like there will
be an exhibit available for us to visit this year and I'd be happy
to coordinate that if there is interest.
> 8:00pm: Erotic Heritage Museum (Erotic Heritage Museum) - sv
There were two things mentioned last year after the EHM visit.
First was having a bar available. I'll be getting the details later,
but it will happen this year.
The second comment concerned the Transgender exhibit and how it
didn't actually reflect the nature of our group. I've asked if it
would be possible to work with them to create a new exhibit to
compliment their existing philosophy and represent the broader TG
community. While it will be possible, it will cost. Will the
members of our group be willing to make voluntary donations to
help make this happen?
Our activity at the facility isn't dependent on this, but I
personally feel it could be enhanced. More information on this
later, but I wanted to run the idea out there to see if there was
any support for it.
Any comments, suggestions or observations?
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Thanks for the report, Sarah.
For the Neon Museum, please pick a timeslot when you get the
chance and let us know. IMAO, almost any afternoon would work
well.
For the EHM, I really believe that having the availability of
adult beverages will give you a larger crowd which will linger
longer and, as the alcohol lubricates the pocketbooks, donate
more. :)
EHM has the potential to be a very well-attended activity this
year.
As to the TG exhibit, my impression was that it was neither
incredibly good nor incredibly bad. My hunch is that it was
very accurate and relevant from the perspective of the people
who put it together.
The TG community is very diverse, as can be seen by observing
the various attendees of DLV. We (both DLV and the TG community
in general) have people of widely-varying self-identities from
the common, to the unusual, to the anachronistic, to those which
are relatively unknown (Genderqueer, Harry Benjamin Syndrome)
even to others in the community.
What I might suggest you do is to spin this off as a separate
project, distinct from the main EHM activity, and maybe get
a group of our people to have a roundtable discussion to help
them get a sense of direction for the project.
I know that they were talking to me about donating some items.
I do have a number of copies of older (1970s - 1990s) TG community
publications which I would be willing to donate to them. Things
like _DRAG_ Magazine, _Transvestia_, various ones from the old
Belmar/Neptune group, and even some earlier _Tapestry_ issues.
I would be more than willing to give these to them either for an
exhibit or for their reference library.

Dancing and Murder:
Jill writes:
Concerning dacncing at Charlies.
Last year we had a good number, I forget how much it was but I
reported it. It did not make for a group activity.
Everyone had to eat somewhere before, so their was not any
consistency for the evening. People came and went and we never
really congelled as a group, I think those who attended has a
good time. But I dont think it is worth a scheduled activity.
The informal dancing at the Paris was much better activity.
On another not, I have talked to Holly about doing the Mystery
theater again. Holly and I will co-sponsor that. She will submit
a proposal. I will call here to get the ball rolling again.
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks, Jill.
We understand your reasoning for Charlies. We'll scratch it for
this year.
The Murder Mystery would be a good fit Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday
so as you and Holly develop your plans, please let us know.
Marisa has first refusal rights to host(ess) the dancing at Paris,
and we haven't heard back from her yet. If you're interested in
doing this, and Marisa does not want to do it, please let us
know.
