Org List:
This is the DLV 2012 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
DLV 2012:
Welcome back!
Hope everyone enjoyed the holidays.
Now -- time to get going on DLV 2012! :)
This is a rather lengthy mailing, but there's a lot of meaningful
information and we've taken pains to keep the "world according to"
content to a minimum. :)
The purpose of this mailing is to let everyone know where we stand
and where we need to go regarding the planning of DLV 2012, and to
kick off the "nuts and bolts" phase of that planning.
. . . . .
Comments and ideas are requested in several sections below. Please
don't be shy! :)
. . . . .
For those who are new volunteers, what we ask of all volunteers
is to coordinate or make a meaningful contribution to one DLV
activity. If you have no clue of what to do, please let us know
and we'll give you some suggestions. If you have ideas of
something you think the DLV gang would enjoy doing, even though
it may appear to be very far out, please let us know.
We've established some Ground Rules and formalized them over the
past few years. These are mostly common sense and best practices.
They're on line here and if you're not familiar with them, please
look them over.
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/administ/gr6.html
There should be no surprises in there for veteran volunteers, and
new volunteers should plan to keep them in mind when proposing or
planning activities.
Procedurally, there are a few things we ask of new and veteran
volunteers to help make the planning run smoothly.
1. If your "name is called" in these mailings, please give us
the courtesy of some kind of response within the next list cycle,
which will usually be one week. We ask that every volunteer read
the ORG mailings promptly and actively participate.
2. If anyone sees anything in our plans which you know will not
happen or will not work for any reason, please let us know, and
the sooner the better!
A very good example of this is if you become aware of an impending
major change or closure of a venue which appears on our schedule.
Short-notice venue closings have been problematic for us, ever
since the early days of DLV.
3. It's perfectly fine to discuss potential activities in the DLV
Discussion Forum, including such things as trial balloons, asking
for opinions, gauging demand, etc. However, the actual planning
of your activities including such things as selecting the
timeslot, needs to happen here in the ORG mailings.
4. If you have an idea for an activity of major significance,
please let us know your thoughts sooner rather than later. If
it's something which can attract a significant number of our
attendees, let's discuss it and select a timeslot before the
schedule gets too full.
Soooo, onward and upward!
But first, some numbers ... :) (You love numbers, don't you?)
The main batch of re-registration e-mails went out on Monday,
and as of Thursday morning we have 79 total attendees signed
up. The Magic Machine says that out of that number, 71 of them
will show. This is after only 3 days of returnee sign-up.
Particularly impressive this year was the initial "test" batch
of re-registration e-mails sent to the volunteers. This "test"
resulted in a headcount of 30-some just one day after it was
sent out, or roughly 1/5 of our anticipated crowd. Thanks to all
who helped to shake down the system.
Congratulations to Walter, whose re-registration was timestamped
2011-12-16 08:45:29 CST, who gets the award for the first person
to re-register for DLV 2012.
Honorable mention goes to Gabi (08:49:07), Nicole (08:50:01), Sue
(08:52:28), and Vivian (08:55:23) whose re-registrations all came
in within a few minutes of the test batch being sent out.
We have 1056 total on our general mailing list. The big "kick off"
general mailing is set to go out this coming Saturday.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
JoAnn Sez:
As we move into scheduling the initial conversations should
be about the types of activities our volunteers are willing
to coordinate.
The day and time slot frequently are flexible and will come next.
What we really are looking for are ideas and those who want to
step up and help make them happen.
Ideas, now; addressing and delivery of the details, tomorrow.

Reviewing and looking forward:
By our long-standing precedent, which was last year incorporated
into our Organizer Ground Rules, the Coordinator of a successful
DLV activity has "first refusal rights" to coordinate the same
or a similar activity during the next year's event.
Let's review a number of DLV 2011 activities and ask for an
up/down response from those who coordinated them.
If your "name is called" here, please reply and state if you
would like to exercise your rights to repeat the activity (or
something similar) this coming DLV.
If you're not interested, please give us a brief remark saying
so. You don't have to explain your reasons.
Not everything is covered here. If your activity is not in
this list, please don't feel snubbed. A number of the smaller
things are not listed.
This particular item will cover the smaller and medium-size
activities. We'll cover the two major gatherings in separate
items below.
. . . . . . . . . .
+Religious Services: Eileen
We've placed the MCC Services on the schedule to seed Sunday.
Eileen, you have first refusal rights to host(ess) this.
. . . . .
+SO/Partners Champagne Brunch: Rosada, Dennis
We've had "SO" activities of various types over the years. These
have seen various degrees of success, from having nobody other
than the Coordinator show up to very respectable turnouts.
In recent years the scope of such gatherings has been expanded
from the "traditional" SOs only to "SOs and Partners" and a more
relaxed concept of the featured attendees of such an activity.
Our group is very diverse, and we've had such things as male
SOs, TG-TG couples, and some other nontraditional bondings
being represented, even in our earlier years.
It's really up to those who host(ess) the activities to set the
"theme" of the activity and this includes the target audience.
Anyway, Rosada and Dennis, do you wish to coordinate some kind
of a SO or SO/Partners activity this year?
. . . . .
Various dining activities:
We had a number of mid-size meals which did quite well last year
and some were true stand-outs.
+Chapella's HH and Dinner: Rosada, Beverly W
+Margaritaville HH, Dinner: Sabrina, Darlene
+Firefly Paradise HH and Dinner: Marisa
+Crossdressers.com PF Chang's HH, Dinner: Sara
+Trevi HH and Dinner: Laura T, Ginger
All of the above five definitely warrant consideration for a repeat
in 2012. In particular, Margaritaville and PF Chang are great
opportunities for not only a re-run, but an expansion.
So, Rosada, Beverly, Sabrina, Darlene, Marisa, Sara, Laura,
Ginger? Are you "go" for a 2012 edition of your 2011 success
stories?
. . . . .
Personal improvement:
Although commercial in nature and sales-oriented, these mainstream
cosmetic counter activities were well-received and their popularity
indicates the demand. It was a win-win for both the participants
and the vendors.
All of these placed highly on the enjoyment scale in 2011
with Macy's and Bare Escentuals both scoring a perfect 5.0!
+MAC Makeovers, all sessions: Laura T
+Bare Escentuals Makeovers: Laura T, Ginger
+Macy's Makeover sessions: Sara
Laura? Ginger? Sara? "Go" for 2012?
. . . . .
Hospitality toward newcomers, and in particular to beginners
(those just venturing out in public) has been one of our focus
items over the past several years.
For 2010 and 2011, we've had Beginner Open House sessions,
three of them per year.
+Beginner Open House, all sessions: Sarona, Cynthia, Jane
One suggestion from feedback was to include a dinner out as part
of this. It will be up to you ("you" meaning either the three
named above or anyone) whether or not this is done or not.
Sarona? Cynthia? Jane? Are you good for this for 2012?
. . . . .
+Some Like It Hot at Shiloh: Rosada, Dennis
This was one of the clear winners for DLV 2011! Rosada? Dennis?
Do you think a re-run would be in order?
. . . . .
Commercial Open House sessions:
Studio Lites is solid. Thanks, Mardi.
Two other recurring items are up for first refusal:
+Glamour Boutique Open House: Gabi
+Harmony Nail Spa Wine Tasting: Norma
Gabi? Norma? Interested in repeating this year?
One principle we've established is to not schedule any of these
three in the same timeslot, since they are competitors for a
number of services. Mardi called Dibs on Monday late morning
and early afternoon for Studio Lites, but all other daytime
slots are open and available.
. . . . .
+Late Night Clubbing: Nikki
>From the survey it looks like there was quite a fair crowd
there for that time of the evening. Nikki? Are we "go" on
this or something similar for 2012? Any evening would work.
. . . . .
+Charlie's dance activities: Jill
Jill? Does this warrant repeating in 2012?
. . . . .
+Pistol-Rifle Shooting: Vanessa, Densie, Laura T, Gina.
Vanessa? Densie? Laura T.? Gina? Bang-bang? Shoot-shoot? :)
. . . . .
+High Tea: Marilyn, Danielle, Gabi, Crystal
Yearly favorite! Marilyn? Danielle? Gabi? Crystal?
. . . . .
+Dancing at Paris: Marisa
This has appeared, late evening, on multiple evenings in years
past, but only once in 2011.
Marisa? "Go" for one or more this year?
. . . . .
+Neon Museum: Sarah
Good reports for this one. Sarah? Feel like repeating?
. . . . .
+Dinner At Home: Sarona, Cynthia P, Jane
+Pajama Party: Sarona, Cynthia P, Jane
Sarona? Cynthia? Jane? Something similar this year?
. . . . .
+Bar Crawl: Annie
I (Annie) have done this several times over the years. For this
coming DLV, I would like to let somebody else do it if they wish
to do so.
Any takers?
. . . . .
+Fremont Street Experience: Delaney
Delaney? Care to host(ess) a 2012 edition of FSE?
. . . . .
+Frank Marino Show: Bev, Katie
Frank Marino's former LaCage and Kenny Kerr's Boylesque are
really the only two shows in our history which have worked for
multiple subsequent years with any major degree of success.
Bev? Katie? This or a similar show this year?
. . . . .
+Classic R&R, Sassy To Classy: Bob, Susan
Bob? Susan? Similar performance activities this year?
. . . . .
+Karaoke: Densie? Others?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Seeding the schedule:
>From this day forward, we'll be including the working schedule
in all (most) of our ORG mailings. See below.
It's rather sparse at this time.
Let's go over what we have scheduled and discuss what we need
to start filling it out.
. . . . .
+Sunday, April 22:
+ 10:00am: Religious services (Metropolitan Community Church)
Our strategy for Sunday is for a "slow start", similar to what we
had in 2010 and 2011.
Sunday afternoon would be an excellent timeslot for a "trial
balloon" for any new activity which you may not be sure of.
The Boulder City Railway excursion would be a good fit here since
that only runs weekends. See below. We'll need someone to adopt
it if it is to happen.
One off-line suggestion was to focus Sunday evening on Downtown,
but nothing definite has been planned. There are countless things
happening each evening downtown.
Whether or not we adopt a "Downtown" theme for Sunday evening, we
will need at least a few smaller or medium-size dining options,
from plain to fancy.
As for dining activities, and these are general comments not
specific to Sunday or any day, These are some of the easiest
activities to plan and implement and some of the most enjoyed
and most remembered.
There's no one-size-fits-all model which has to be used. Your
dining activity can be plain or fancy, simple or structured,
very small to moderately large.
For a minimalist approach for a smaller group dining activity,
all you need to do is to name a place and agree to be there,
then take available tables with little formality.
If you wish, you can adopt a greater degree of formality such
as a group reservation.
. . . . . . . . . .
+Monday, April 23:
+ 11:00am: Studio Lites Open House (Studio Lites) - sv
+ 1:00pm: Lunch With Ginger (TBA) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Happy Hour (TBA) - ms
+ 7:30pm: Welcome Celebration (TBA) - mv
Monday afternoon is wide open for anything and everything.
New activities would be very appropriate Monday daytime.
Only major constraint is that we want things to wrap up in
the mid-afternoon to avoid any spoiling of the turnout for
the Welcome Celebration.
As of this day, hour, minute, and second, it's unclear if our
Welcome Celebration will include food. We may be in need of
some dining options on Monday, but this will be an unknown
factor until plans for the Welcome Celebration (see below)
start taking shape.
. . . . . . . . . .
+Tuesday, April 24:
+ 9:00am: Diva Las Vegas Invitational Golf (Desert Rose)
+ 1:00pm: Lunch With Ginger (TBA) - ms
Tuesday morning and afternoon is Golf, but there's plenty of
room in there for other daytime activities.
Tuesday evening is a designated "multi-track" evening, open to
just about anything.
This will be our traditional Eating Out Night, where we feature
smaller group dining for the first part of the evening.
We'll need at least three dining options, hopefully more, of
varied types of cuisine and price ranges.
We'll also need a collection of small to medium after-dinner
activities of all types. Activities which include dinner and
then something related after dinner are, of course, appropriate.
New dining venues and new activities of all types will work very
well Tuesday evening. (Think outside the box!) :)
. . . . . . . . . .
+Wednesday, April 25:
+ 1:00pm: Lunch With Ginger (TBA) - ms
+ 8:00pm: Erotic Heritage Museum (Erotic Heritage Museum) - sv
Wednesday daytime is wide open.
Wednesday evening is "anchored" by the Erotic Heritage Museum. The
evening is open for second-track activities but we do want to keep
the profile of EHM as the featured activity of the evening.
Two medium-scale dining options worked well last year, with some
lessons learned, of course. Two dining options would be very
appropriate again this year, keeping in mind the real-world
aspects of timing and travel.
. . . . . . . . . .
+Thursday, April 26:
+ 1:00pm: Lunch With Ginger (TBA) - ms
+ 9:30pm: Limousine Tour (TBA) - ms
Thursday daytime is wide open.
As with Wednesday, Thursday evening is also "anchored by a
featured activity, the Limo Tour. The Limo Tour does have a
limited capacity, so we will need 1-2 alternate-track things
in here as well.
In recent years we've done Trevi as a medium-size dining
activity prior to the Limo Tour, but this is not locked in
stone. It does seem to work quite well.
Assuming Trevi is the pre-limo dinner, we will need (at
least) one more dining option since Trevi does have some
practical limitations on group size, particularly when they
offer us the full menu.
The next item is really Friday. We'll definitely need something
as a post-limo social-type activity to replace the Charles Bar,
which will not be happening. We've had a few ideas. No hurry,
but please be thinking.
. . . . . . . . . .
+Friday, April 27:
+ 1:00pm: Lunch With Ginger (TBA) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Happy Hour (TBA) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Dinner (TBA) - mv
+ 8:30pm: Farewell Celebration (TBA) - mv
Friday daytime is wide open. Great timeslot for new things.
For the past few years we've had Dancing At Paris for our final
late-evening activity on our final night. Do we want to go with
this again? Any alternatives which warrant consideration?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Major gatherings:
The highest priority item we have before us at this time is the
twofold task of planning our two major gatherings, both of which
are totally open.
These two gatherings are:
1. Welcome Celebration, scheduled for Monday evening.
2. Farewell Celebration, scheduled for Friday evening.
In recent years both of these have been three-part evenings with
the Happy Hour - Dinner - Social Time format, beginning at 6:00pm
and lasting usually until 9:00pm-10:00pm or so.
That format is not set in stone, however.
By precedent, Cynthia and Marisa have first refusal rights to
coordinate the Welcome Celebration and this year Alanna and
Beverly W. have first refusal rights to coordinate the farewell
dinner.
If anyone else wants to have a significant involvement in the
planning of these two major activities, please let us know and
now is the time. :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Our Opening - Welcome Celebration:
Cynthia writes:
Hi Divas,
Let me lay my cards on the table concerning an Opening Event at Artisan.
I have not established anything approaching a firm agreement with them
for a Monday evening event. As mentioned earlier, I must deal with
corporate management for everything and cannot deal with in-house staff
to arrange bar and restaurant use like I did last year. The corporate
guys are much more difficult to deal with. They want signed agreements
gauranteeing them a specified number of attendees, and I won't agree to
anything like that simply because it wasn't necessary last year, thus
shouldn't be this year either. Another glitch is that they are having
weekend disco's in the bar and lobby - DJ's, sound system, the whole bit
- and the implication I got from them was that they didn't want to
"upset that apple cart" although they didn't express it in just those
exact words.
Quite honestly, Diva's, I think we are more 'out' than 'in' with Artisan
this year and I am seriously looking elsewhere for an Opening Venue. I
will approach Artisan management one more time after the holidays, early
in January, and see if they might have had a change of mind. Otherwise,
I'm looking elsewhere for our Opener. If anyone of you would like to
approach them and give it a try - hint, hint, some of you locals : ) -
please feel free to do so. An extra voice or two from us might just
make the difference. At any rate, I'm moving on; there's just too
many options here in LV to get hung up on any one of them.
I think we are fine with guest rooms there; their hotel business is not
the best so I can't see any problems with staying there, just don't look
for a discount. Compared to the big casinos, Artisan is not a big money
maker and must struggle for business, same for Rumor - biggest problem
they have is no gaming. For instance, Station Casinos is offering half
off room rates right now, and the Red Rock beats them all, hands down,
if you don't mind a little drive out there. That's my update for now.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Thanks, Cynthia. Please let us know if you need anything or any
assistance from the gang.
To all: Although Cynthia has stepped forward to lead the charge on
this one, the two major gatherings are the responsibility of all
of us, including you. Cynthia can use some assistance and back-up
here, both from a planning and nuts-and-bolts standpoint.
Any thoughts and ideas about our opening evening are welcome.
Some of the venues which have been discussed as possibilities
for something like this include:
Downtown Cocktail Room, Drink And Drag, Blue Ox (one which has
capacity), Las Palmas Mariachi, PT's Pub (one which has capacity),
Alexis Park.
If anyone has ideas, both regarding venue and theme, for our big
opening evening, please let them be known! TIA.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Our Closing - Farewell Celebration:
We've used the Bahama Breeze each year from 2008 forward for our
final evening HH and dinner. For a while there were some comments
along the line of "same-old same-old", but in recent years the BB
has been one of our best-attended activities and highly rated on
the survey.
Do we want to continue the tradition of the Bahama Breeze for
the closing dinner?
A related Big Burning Question is: Are Alanna and/or Beverly
willing and able to coordinate this?
Are there any alternatives for a closing dinner which we should
be considering?
Comments, gang?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Activity suggestions:
Here's a semi-random list of activity suggestions from last year's
survey. No particular order, some editing, some comments.
Please read this over, let us know if there's anything here you
would like to coordinate. Any of the below would work well in one
form or another for DLV 2012.
. . . . . . . . . .
New activities:
+Poker tournament
Depending on the scale and the demand, this could either be a
daytime afternoon activity or a second/multi-track activity
some evening. Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday evenings would
be workable.
. . . . .
+How about the Carol Shelby museum at the LV speedway. It is free.
About any afternoon would work for this. All it takes is for
someone to adopt it and make it happen.
. . . . .
+Hoover Dam Bridge
+Maybe a trip to the new bypass bridge by Hoover dam.
This could be combined with lunch/brunch in Boulder City, a boat
trip, a drive around Lake Mead, or a Dam Tour.
. . . . .
+How about that sky-line rope ride down on Freemont [sic] st.
This would fit as a part of a "Downtown Evening" or a stand-alone
activity on Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday.
. . . . .
+pool tournament
Almost any afternoon, or some evenings.
. . . . .
+Yes, go up in the Eiffel Tower or Stratosphere Tower as a group.
Evenings would be best. Very easy activity for a new volunteer.
All you really need to do is to name a time and agree to be there
to greet the others and direct traffic.
. . . . .
+How about a tour of celebrities homes.
Some of the tour promoters used to have bus tours along this line,
or, someone could plan a carpool type of tour.
#include <disclaimer.h>
. . . . .
+Trip to see the Pawn Stars.
All something like this takes is for someone to adopt it, pick
a timeslot, and agree to be there.
. . . . .
+How about breakfast at the Hash House in IP?
Workable any morning, assuming we have people who get up in time. :)
. . . . .
+Event with Little Black Dress or animal print theme.
"Theme" activities of various types have been disussed off and
on. A formal or prom theme has been suggested many times and it
almost happened this year but did not due to a very unfortunate
incident.
Themes can be attached to already-planned activities or stand-alone
activities can be planned around such themes.
. . . . .
+Boulder City Train Ride out to the Dam
These run only on Saturdays and Sundays, so Sunday afternoon
would be the only time it would fit on our schedule. If it is
to happen, somebody's gonna need to step forward and make it
happen.
. . . . .
+I went to Freemont [sic] st myself, and went to many bars and
+dining and shopping not associated with dlv
The "Downtown Evening" has been suggested. Good fit would be on
Sunday evening, but a concentration of things downtown would work
on Tuesday as well.
. . . . .
+Flamingo, X burlesque University (XBU)
Checking with Flamingo, this only happens on Saturdays, so this
kind of leaves us out this year.
. . . . .
+New Beginner introduction or orientation session, please.
+I hope this isn't to far out. A "beginner dinner out" if you
+get what I mean. For newer girls who are nervous about a
+main-stream restaurant. You know, taking the seat, ordering
+off the menu, what wine to order, holding the wine glass, how
+to eat like a lady.
Thoughts on these, please? Do we need more of a program geared
toward beginning newcomers?
. . . . . . . . . .
Repeated/recurring and general activities:
+Mainstream mall shopping trip
+Shopping at the Miricle Mile at Planet Hollywood $$
+Thrift or discount shopping trip.
+Shoe Shopping!!! :)
Any afternoon would work for any of these. Countless variations
on the theme.
. . . . .
+Other mainstream shows like Cirque.
+more shows such as Frank Marino etc.
+I would like more mainstream venues like headliner shows
+Celine Dion Concert at Ceasar's Forum Coliseum
+V Theater is also an option (in Miracle Mile Shoppes).
+Cirque du Soleil's Zumaity
Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday evenings are all a good fit for
shows. Possibly even Sunday.
. . . . .
+Koi in Planet Hollywood,
+Strings Italian Restaurant
+Suggest dinner at the Effiel Tower next year, if possible.
+Yes. Toby Keiths bar at Harrahs.
+Yes, we dined at Carnevinos in the Palazzo,
+Mon Ami Gabi at the Paris
+Grand Lux ... at the Palazzo.
All of the above would work on Sunday or Tuesday evenings for
smaller group dining, or on Wednesday or Thursday for a somewhat
larger group against the "anchor" activities.
. . . . .
+and clubs like TRYST, XS, PURE, LAX, JET, etc.
+$2 dollar Tuesday at a local bar.
+piano bar at Palazzo or V Bar )might be nice.
+Escape Lounge (Show on Thursday)
+Pure Nightclub $$$
+cosmopolitan - vesper bar
+Top of the Rio
+the 107 Lounge at Stratosphere.
Any evening, even Monday or Friday after the large gatherings.
. . . . .
+Bring back the boat trip.
+pity party.
+Shark tank at Mandelay Bay
+Ten pin Bowling at Red Rock hotel and casino.
We've done these in the past. Anyone interested in bringing any
of these back for DLV 2012?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
David deAlba performance:
All: Please read the below and give us feedback.
Rosada has made contact with a FI performer who is trying to
establish a show in Las Vegas.
Where we (DLV) come in is that David and Rosada have been thinking
of a performance for DLV, either stand-alone or in conjunction
with one of our major activities.
Comments, please.
Rosada writes:
>I know its too early to bring up activities for next year but
>here's one activity that should be kept on the back burner and
>bring up later.
>I connected with David De Alba, the Cuban Legend, and a former
>Female Impersonator Performer who used to perform at the Famous
>Finocchio's Club in San Francisco. He now resides in Las Vegas
>and is trying to get a show going.
>Please read his email to me and see what you think. Is it
>something you think some of the DLV gals would be interested
>in doing?
>Could we offer it up as a possible activity even though he can't
>do anything until we give him some hard numbers to go on.
Annie responds:
I can envision two possibilities for such a performance, both
which would require some legwork and cooperation from venue
operators.
First, I really don't think DLV has the means to "four-wall"
such a performance at the Onyx or any similar independent venue.
We really won't have any "hard numbers", even soft ones, until
activity sign-up begins, and more importantly, lacking some kind
of a sugar-mommy, we won't have any hard cash until shortly
before such a performance would occur.
What I believe is the most realistic, if we want to move forward
with this, is to work with one of the venues which is equipped to
do such performances, such as Crewsn or Escape Lounge, and do such
a performance either as a stand-alone show or else as a featured
portion of a social activity.
Another possibility, as you say, is something along the line of ...
Rosada continues:
>I talked with David de Alba on the phone last night. We talked
>about Diva and about his retirement and what he's doing now.
>Anyway, today he sent me this follow up email and I'm forwarding
>it to you.
>Now, the dinner he's referring to is of course our Farewell Dinner
>at whatever restaurant the group selects, which I'm thinking will
>be BB again.
>Please pass this on to the organizing committee and see if they
>are willing to tag on a small fee ($100.00 but will take no less
>than $75.00) to be shared by all of us to pay David to entertain
>for us. I know we usually have a DJ playing music for us and
>dancing but this might be a different experience and I can always
>do the DJ part with CD player and DJ program.
David DeAlba writes:
+Good morning,
+If you were to fail convincing the person in charge to get me to
+perform especially for the TG folks at The Onyx... then secon choice
+would be if she makes sure the person in charge of the music for the

Annie continues:
As of this minute and second we don't have any concrete plans to
use the Bahama Breeze for our Farewell Celebration. On the other
hand we don't have any plans, specifically, to not use the BB if
they are once again willing to cooperate with us in regards to
our particular whims. :)
I do not know if having David perform at the Farewell Celebration
would work or not. The big questions regarding this are:
1. Is this (more formal entertainment) something we want at the
Farewell Celebration? I don't know, I'm asking the ORG gang
here. Comments?
2. Would Bahama Breeze allow this and would they be willing to
work with us to assure that we get the space we need?
3. How would it be paid for?
My personal comments on these three questions are:
1. Observation on my part indicates that our people mostly want
Quality Social Time at the major gatherings and don't really need
entertainment in order to enjoy the affair. The performers (Tommy
Rocker and the "Jamaaaaica Mon" guy) are a nice touch but most of
the people are conversing and socializing as the performer does his
thing.
2. Would bringing in our own performer introduce such a degree of
formality and complexity into the agreement between BB and DLV
that such a thing would be impractical? Would this force us into
a "room charge" situation, or that limited menu which they have
not yet forced upon us but keep threatening to?
3. IMAO, any kind of a "cover charge", although very modest or
even just above trivial, would be self-defeating. We know how
our people behave, and a charge "just to walk through the door"
is not what they like. Again IMAO a "pass the hat" (bedpan? LOL)
type of thing will yield more $$$$$.
Conclusion: I think the best approach is to try to work with one
of our regular venues for a stand-alone show, and offer it as
an option on one of our multi-track evenings.
Comments, gang? Is this something we want to pursue?

Elton, Absinthe, Drink & Drag:
Cami Desiree writes:
Hello, I went online to see dates for Elton John and the last ones
I see is April 19th right before we come. Bummer if that's the case.
Maybe I missed something.
Also, I was hearing goods things about Absinthe at Ceasars as a
show to see. Anybody got any reviews?
I also went to Freemont St to check out the new drag bowling alley
that someone wrote about. It doesn't appear to be open yet. I will
keep an eye out for it opening. If you would like I would be happy
to organize that event.

Annie responds:
No, you're not missing anything with Elton John.
According to the Caesars Palace web site, Elton John will be at
Caesars in April with the last show on April 19th. Performances
once scheduled for the 20th. and 21st. have been cancelled. That
kinda ends that one. :(
Absinthe has fairly consistently good reviews. The schedule on
the web only runs thru March, however. I'm sure a modest amount
of homework would confirm that they're still gonna be there in
April. Absinthe would be an excellent choice for a "Theater
Night" type of activity on a multi-track evening or even a second
track option opposite an anchor activity.
Drink And Drag downtown offers many possibilities. It could be
a Sunday evening "alternative" gathering spot for a social thing,
or an "Eating Out Night" HH and dinner, maybe something more. It
could even be a candidate for one of the major gatherings if it
has the capacity and the gang wants to use it.
