Hotels:

It's November, the month we discuss and vote on our suggested
hotels.

We will be doing things a bit differently this year, but you can
expect a vote toward the end of the month and an announcement to
the Teeming Millions on or around the first of December.

If you have a pet hotel which you would like to see considered
as a DLV 2012 suggested hotel, please write a brief note about
it and why you think it should be one during this current list
cycle.

If you have some follow-up to do, such as getting rates or
special deals, now is the time to do it. If any of our suggested
hotels wish to offer us special rates, all the better. However,
if the "special rates" quoted are higher than cold-call or web
rates, as they have been several times in the past, we're not
going to insult the intelligence of our attendees by posting
them. :)

Please keep in mind that our hotel suggestions are primarily
aimed toward the newcomers who are unfamiliar with Las Vegas
and need some guidance in selecting a place to stay. Among the
factors to be considered are past history of TG comfort, value,
proximity to other attendees, transportation availability, etc.
. . . . .

This coming weekend we will be clearing out the existing
(Pinkfest) schedule and preparing to start up the DLV 2012
schedule. So, if you wish to take a peek at the two versions
of the new tabular schedule, do so prior to Saturday. The two
versions are on line here:

. . . . .

Please, everyone, if you notice something wrong, systems-wise,
please report it! If e-mail should ever bounce when sending to
any DLV address, please report it, and please include any of
those returned messages with all of the gobbledygook lines
included.

We just learned yesterday of some MyDLV log-in and log-out
issues and it's apparent that quite a few were affected before
it was reported!

Please, everyone, report systems issues if they happen to you.

DLV 2012 activities:

Bev writes:

To Annie, Joanne, et al.... thanks again for the wonderful
organization that you provide for DLV and Pinkfest.

I am sorry I had to miss Pinkfest. I was truly looking forward to
it but plans changed. Sounds like there were a few problems and sore
spots that I hope don't detract from all of the planning that went
into the event.

I would like to voice a couple of thoughts on DLV2012 activities.

I enjoyed the kickoff event last year at the Artisan. Perhaps I was
in the minority in that I enjoyed the venue and the meal. Or perhaps
it is because I have been at this a long time and understand that the
best plans don't always go off perfectly and have learned to just go
with the flow.

It would be nice to have a venue that afforded us both a timely meal
at a reasonable price as well as an area large enough to accommodate
our growing group for a photo op. But since I am unable to scout
locations in advance in Las Vegas, then I will have to accept others
recommendations on places.

I have enjoyed the last two final night gatherings at Bahama Breeze
and feel that we have a near perfect venue there... large, semi-
private area with food available for all price points. I think it
will be difficult to find a better place, especially one that seems
to enjoy our group as much as the folks at BB do.

I would like to see another activity available on Thursday opposite
the Limo Tour. I attended the Murder Mystery evening in 2009 and
really enjoyed that. I did the Limo Tour last year and enjoyed it
but don't need to do it every year (been there, done that kind of
thing).

That's it from me for now. I will give more input later as need.

Thanks again to all who have put in the time and effort to make DLV
great.

Annie responds:

Thanks Bev.

First, a few notes on Pinkfest. Those who are not interested can
skip this part.

There was really only one issue.

A previous-favorite high-end restaurant has morphed into a clip
joint. It was just fine until the bill came. Lots of bill-padding
and deceptive upselling.

I was unaware of the effects of the dissatisfaction until after
Pinkfest had concluded. Somehow this incident escalated to the
point that it was declared that SOs were not welcome at Pinkfest.
That, of course, is entirely in error! I sure don't know how that
connection was made!

The rest of Pinkfest came off with very few hitches. I enjoyed
everything else I did during the event and most who attended did
not let the one disappointment spoil the event. We had good
turnouts and very positive feedback other than the one incident.
. . . . .

You are definitely not in the minority when you state that you
enjoyed the Artisan Welcome Celebration and Dinner. Yes, it was
crowded, and that's a Good Thing. Yes, there were some issues
with the promptness of dinner seating and food service, but as
you say, we need to go with the flow. The Artisan staff really
did what they could, and overall the evening scored 4.51 on the
enjoyment scale with 78 responses. That's very good!

It's not a done deal that we'll repeat this for 2012, but I sure
can't name a better place at this time.

I also agree with you that the past two years' ending evenings
at Bahama Breeze have been super. This past year's BB ending
rated 4.75 with 61 responses. That's about as good as we can
get for a large-scale set of activities! Again, this is not set
in stone for a repeat in 2012, but I can't think of something
that is clearly better.

There will most definitely be at least one other activity sharing
the timeslot with the Limo Tour. The Limo Tour has some capacity
and logistical limitations so it's impossible to make that a
single-track thing.

Golf:

Danielle writes:

I haven't called Desert Rose Golf Course yet, but, now that overall
dates are set, I will shortly.

I'm looking at Tuesday morning for golf, basically the same schedule
as last year/years past, which means tee-off around 9 am.

If there are any issues with this, please let me know.

Can't wait. We're accumulating 6 in. of snow right now....
. . . . .

Thanks, Danielle.

When we start the schedule, we'll get Golf on it for 9:00am on
Tuesday. Please keep us informed as things develop. As you know,
this activity is the high point for a number of our attendees.

There was a comment in feedback this year about the early hour of
the tee-off. This is really up to those who coordinate the golf
outing to decide, however.

Charles Bar, Artisan, Rumor:

Marisa writes:

Charles bar location is changing. The area that is known as
Charles bar and Caramel lounge is going through a remodel,
expansion and name change.

The bartender working there at the time I visited said that
Charles has a job working somewhere else at Bellagio, but he
didn't know where or when.

Last year at the Artisan some people took the appetizer option
in the bar area. Suggesting this as an option could take some load
off the dining room along with some nearby options.

I visited the Rumor Boutique Resort and the loby, bar, restaurant
area is small for us. They open the doors to a uncovered courtyard
for larger groups if the weather is ok.
. . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

Thanks Marisa.

If I can get out to LV in the near future, I'll poke around in the
Bellagio and see if I can find Charles. Gina, do you know what his
new venue/schedule happens to be?

Do you know if the Artisan's full menu is available for those who
choose to dine at the bar? That could alleviate some of the crunch
in the availability of seating.

Hand-held devices:

Bob writes:

I tried to send this via Yahoo, but it kept coming back as
undeliverable. I hope it works here.

I think we should put something in the guidelines about it
being against the law to use a hand held device(cell phone,
i-pod, etc)while operating a motor vehicle in the state of
Nevada.

It wouldn't be too cool if an attendee got a ticket because
they weren't notified of the law.
. . . . . . . . .

Thanks Bob.

First of all, if you have any of the failed messages, please
send them in. E-mail errors are easy to trace and troubleshoot
if we have the info.

Yes, we can put a note about hand-held devices in the Large
Final Mailing information. Please hold that thought. Remind us
if it should get left out of the final information.

Sahara (and other) news:

Apparently wheels are turning toward the remodeling and reopening
of the Sahara.

http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2011/nov/02/permits-approved-remodel-sahara-minus-roller-coast/

This appears to be a revamp of the existing property, and not an
implosion-rebuild as was the custom just a few years ago.

No timeframe has been announced, and it's probably unlikely that
the Sahara (or whatever it is to be called) will be open in time
for DLV 2012.
. . . . . . . . . .

In other news:

The Mob Museum downtown is set to open on February 14, 2012.
That's right. St. Valentine's Day. :)

Check out this new venue that is opening Dec. 1 at Fremont St.

Thanks, Marisa.

This was noted in the Discussion Forum recently. Apparently it's
owned and operated by the folks who run Krave, and it's in the
Neonopolis complex, near the Beauty Bar downtown.

All it takes to get this on the schedule is ... :)
