Updates:

In this mailing, Cynthia follows up on Marisa's visit to Rumor,
the revamped St. Tropez and now the sister property of Artisan.
Cynthia envisions kind of an indoor-outdoor opener.

We need opinions and feedback on something like this. Is this the
way we want to go for our opening celebration in 2012?

Comments please.

Last call for hotels to be considered for our suggested hotels
for DLV 2012. If you would like any hotels to be considered which
have not yet been mentioned, please get them in during this
coming list cycle. Please include very specific details as to
why your nominated hotel will meet the needs of DLV attendees.

and make our great Diva Week Gathering a success!

We are fortunate to have you.... and Annie and I wish to give you our
"thanks".

With care and hugs.... JoAnn & Annie

Opening thoughts:

Cynthia writes:

I too paid a visit to Rumor yesterday, the 8th, and poked around a
bit.

As Marisa says, it's smallish but that outdoor courtyard sure looked
good. I could see a lawn party out there with tents, tables and
waitstaff, and about 150 of us strolling around the pool and inside
that swanky lounge living it up. The problem of course is, like
Artisan, their restaurant wouldn't be able to accomodate all of
us in that time span with anything like a full menu.

Kumiko suggested having catering brought in from Sam's Club which
has a really fine menu, but I doubt seriously that Rumor would
allow it. At any rate I have the address of their sales department
and am writing them today - I must deal with their sales department,
the front desk can't negotiate any terms and I must deal with
management, and I will surely let you know just as soon as I hear
anything back. Rumor looks really good for a pre-opener on Sunday,
though, and should give us some kind of group rates too for any of
you who might want to stay there.

Now, in addition to that, yours truly is contemplating the possibility
a pre-pre-opener at The Artisan on Saturday, how 'bout that. I expect
turnout to be low as many of you won't be in town yet; but for any
of you who may be, and for any of you locals who just want something
to do on Saturday afternoon, I will attempt to be there if you want to
drop by for cocktails and attend my high culture art tour where I will
show you some of the more interesting paintings on display and explain
them to you. More to follow.

Annie responds:

Thanks Cynthia for your initiative and effort examining these
properties.

The most time-sensitive issue now is room rates, if they are to
be taken into consideration when selecting our suggested hotels.

Everyone: What are your thoughts and feelings regarding an opening
celebration at Rumor or Artisan? Again, if you do not particularly
care for these two venues, please suggest alternatives.

I'll share mine ...

Yes, I can envision a "garden party" type opener, assuming the
weather cooperates, if that's what the gang wants to do. I really
don't see anything wrong with something like we had last year
at the Artisan, either back at the Artisan or at Rumor or even
at another venue if that's what the group decides on.

For planning purposes, I would suggest using the number "about 100"
when discussing headcounts with any venue. 150, although not way
out of the ballpark, is unlikely.

It's a group decision here, so everyone, please let us know what
you want!
. . . . .

Rumor might also work for one of the common gatherings on Sunday,
but only if we don't use it for the Big Bang on Monday. We want
to be very careful about re-use of venues, particularly for any
major gatherings.
. . . . .

If you would like to do some kind of a walk-through of the Artisan,
focusing on the various artwork, I would suggest doing that as
part of the main DLV program, as a "Art Tour" option, on one of
the weekdays, perhaps combined with a lunch, or maybe leading in
to a happy hour.

We'll most definitely have some kind of a pre-DLV gathering on
Saturday, but for now we need to put that on the way-back burner
and focus on our six scheduled days.

Mob Museum:

Bob writes:

>The Mob Museum downtown is set to open on February 14, 2012.
>That's right. St. Valentine's Day. :)

Anyone from Chicago would have heard of the St. Valentine's Day
Massacre, which happened on that date in 1929.

Coincidence???????

Al Capone's South Side Italian gang shot down 7 members of Bugs
Moran's North Side Irish gang in a garage on North Clark St.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, Bob.

I personally think that the Mob Museum would make an excellent
daytime "Art Tour" type of affair.

Comments?

As an aside, I do know that we had some Pinkfest people inquire
about the location of the Valentines Day Massacre, and its
proximity. I don't know if they followed through and visited or
not.

Charles Bar:

Gina writes:

Arrgghh! It's true! From Charles.

+Good news travels fast... (sic) was preparing even this morning
+to contact you and let you know what the story is. My bar has
+been demolished. Caramel has bought the space and is expanding
+their lounge. My old job is, in a word, gone.

+I have been relegated to the confines of a back of the house
+service bar making drinks for the cocktail girls and taken out
+of the illustrious lime-light of Bellagio. I don't know that I
+will be back on a front bar anytime soon, as Bellagio has also
+demolished and leased the Fontana Bar, which was the one that
+overlooked the fountains in the front to another night club group,
+and a total of about 18 bartenders have been likewise delegated.

+If I do ever get another front bar, it will most likely be the
+sports bar, but the guy there has to retire first, and he is just
+now starting to talk about thinking about it. I know I am stuck
+in the service bar for at least 6 months, as that is the union
+procedure. "Girls' Night at Charles' Bar" is, sadly, no more....
+as Charles' Bar is no more. My new bar is in the back of the house
+and inaccessible to the public.

Preliminary report from Charles, I'll work with him and see what
we can do.

Bummer.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks for the report, Gina. Please keep us informed.

If Charles is indeed trapped in the service bar for the next
six months, that covers the DLV timeframe, since DLV is about
5 months away.

Let's put on our thinking caps and come up with an alternative
upscale-type bar for after the Limo Tour. The one that comes
immediately to mind is the Chandelier Bar at Cosmopolitan, but
I'm sure there are others.

Suggestions, anyone?

Golf timing:

Danielle writes:

I also recall the comment about 9 am being too early to start.

As I recall, this was just one comment. As you know, the start
time has been the same for years. And I think it works out as best
as can be hoped, when you consider that a round takes between four
and five hours, and then we follow with lunch and awards and photos.

As it is, it's almost a full day, leaving just enough time to get
back, change and get ready for the evening.

But that's why it's also a good idea to do golf earlier in the week,
rather than later....

I'll keep you posted.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks Danielle.

Please let us know the details as soon as you know them.

Krave:

Rosada writes:

I think this is a night club we should check into as a potential
watering hole during one of our nights while attending DLV2012.

Thanks Rosada.

We've had get-togethers occasionally at Krave over the years. The
only thing that precludes us from using it for some kind of large
or medium gathering is the cover charge.

In the past we've attended shows there, had it as the last stop on
the Bar Crawl, and had a late-night dance thing there.

If you (or anyone) wants to plan something around Krave, please
let us know what you have in mind. Krave is really the only one
of the trendy clubs which invites GLBT business.
