Org List:

This is the DLV 2011 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Beginning the follow-up:

It's an understatement to say that DLV 2011 was highly successful!

For those holding their breath waiting for some kind of a total
headcount, the initial non-final number is 163 accounted for.

This number will increase slightly as a few more on the "missing"
list are identified.

Yes, that number is a decrease from 2010.

We've already seen decreases in total headcount from 2005 to 2006
and then from 2008 to 2009, and both 2006 and 2009 were highly
successful years.

Our five-year moving average is still on the increase:

2009: 141 2010: 151 2011: 161

I would have to say that we had more truly active participants
in 2011 than we had in any previous years. Our count of bodies
through the door was lower than in 2010 and 2008, but our level
of active participation was higher, as indicated by our record
single-activity turnout on Monday and the highest ever for Bahama
Breeze on Friday.

Thanks to those who sent in first-person sightings. Please take
one last look at the "missing" list below and if you know that
any of them on the list were present, please say so.
. . . . .

We now begin our follow-up process.

Please be thinking in terms of what worked, what did not work,
why things did or did not work, how things could be improved
upon, any particular trouble spots, etc.

In the near future we'll have various "calls" to the general
DLV population, including the Call For Volunteers. In about a
month we'll be adding the new volunteers to our ORG mailings
and cleaning up the list of stale or inactive members.

In the meantime, let's focus our thoughts on recapping this
year's event.

JoAnn Sez:

I get to do the "JoAnn Sez" before Annie [she is next], however,
I see Annie as the _"real first"_, here.

She "flies under the radar" and leads the way for all of us, while
being quick to step up if someone is not respectful of another in
our group, or if someone fails to understand what 'good decorum'
means for the enjoyment of the Diva Mission-- a week long vacation,
"not a convention".

I would like to add that I cannot think of a more enjoyable "run"
working on a project this past year which had so many _responsive
Volunteers_ who stepped up to make this a successful --- Diva Week!!!

The support and feedback [the "thanks" and "how about trying .......
next year" statements from you all] was delivered with "care" and
"appreciation" and will make the next year even better.

We are a very unique group who know how to put together a "gathering"
and we did it again in 2011, and we can be proud of it!!!

WOW... for US !!!!

With hugs for letting Annie and I be part of each and every everyone
of your journey this past week.

Thank you...... JoAnn Segrue.

Annie Sez:

Note: I had written this originally for what was planned to be
a final ORG mailing and a note of encouragement and thanks,
including "JoAnn Sez" and "Annie Sez" items. Well, due to all
of the goings-on, that mailing never happened. Here is the
original item, unedited. Still very relevant. Thanks again!
. . . . .

This is my 15th. year being involved in the planning of DLV.

Out of all of those 15 years, this year has been the smoothest
year I can remember, and I would like to personally thank all
who helped out this year for making it so.

Our volunteer force this year is second to none!

We have some newer volunteers who are absolute firecrackers!

We have veteran volunteers who can be depended upon to plan
an implement their activities consistently year after year.

We've also seen those who have not been active in recent years
re-join the volunteer group and become active and enthusiastic
once again.

And, unfortunately, we have a few formerly-active and very
influential volunteers who could not be with us this year. :(

The cooperation amongst the volunteers has been superb this
year! In partcular, the group really came together when our
one (and only, hopefully) significant snag arose.

This year I'm unaware of any game-playing or personal agendas
which opposed the smooth and harmonious planning of the
event, and I would like to again thank all for putting the
overall success of the event above any personal goals.

Thanks again, gang! Break a leg! :)

Keeping in touch

Edy writes (quoted):

>Annie, good dlv.. enjoyed myself and actually saw you a few
>times... without your laptop.

>Question...is there means we can contact each other direct to
>maintain contact between dlv's ????

We used to maintain lists of DLVers' e-mail addresses, but we
have not for the past few years. Lately, most of the keeping in
touch has been in public, on the Discussion Forum and/or the
associated Yahoo group.

This has been expanded into what is now MyDLV, a personal space
on the web for DLVers. I would encourage you and all who want to
keep in contact with others to join MyDLV and make your e-mail
address visible in your profile. That way others can contact you
and we don't need to worry about e-mail lists. You can get the
e-mail addresses of most of the MyDLV members by viewing profiles.

You can join MyDLV here.

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/mydlv/

There are a number of additional features in there and you can
get a good idea of what's there by looking around.

If there are any questions or concerns about MyDLV, please let
us know and we'll help you out.

Golf and such:

Danielle writes:

For what it's worth at this time, at the end of golf last week
all the players decided that I should do it again, next year. They
voted. So I've been recruited. Oh well.

I think we should, somewhere, some way, have a round robbin,
on-line or in person, on what people tell people who "don't know"
about where they are, and what they're doing, the week of DLV. I
think it would be most interesting and enlightening.

I can send you the "DLV Rules of Golf" that I mentioned to you,
as a Word file, but I'm not sure what e-mail to use. Is this ok?
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, Danielle. Good show on the golf! I've heard nothing but
positive comments on it, other than one minor injury.

Yes, please send the "DLV Rules of Golf" in any sane format.

You can send to the list address (dlv@geekbabe.com). Or about
any other. About the only address which will strip an attach
is the Discussion Forum. We'll "webify" and add the rules to
the collction of various documents.

For a "what excuse did you give to the normals" thread, please
feel free to start this on the Discussion Forum. I'm sure you
will get several responses.

Activity headcounts:

Please look these over. I've estimated the headcounts for all
