Quick update:
Another quick touch-base on a few items.
First, let's look at the numbers ...
First on the registration side of things, and please remember
that these numbers are registrations, not individuals:
Reconfirmed : 158
First notice : 0
Second notice : 3
Canc. pending : 19
Registrations are slowing down. We'll probably get a few more
between now and DLV and that's it. My guess is that 98% of
those who will respond have done so, and those who have not
are making their way into the bit bucket.
Now that we're 98% or so complete, we can start looking at
the other end of the numbers, which I'm sure you are more
interested in, that being the projections. Here's where the
numbers sit this morning:
Total registrations: 158
Total SO: 33
Total signup: 191
Total projection: 151
If we assume the 98% completion and extrapolate, we get 195 for
a sign-up count and 154 for a projection.
The last number is a very conservative headcount projection.
Unless something totally unforeseen and unexpected happens,
our total turnout will be somewhere between 154 and 195, most
likely in the first or second quartile, 160-170-ish, or just
under what we saw last year for a total overall headcount.
The lack of a headcount increase is nothing to be concerned
about. We're now at the point where natural variance is showing
its effects. If we look at the totals for the past few years ...
2003: 104
2004: 118
2005: 126
2006: 118
2007: 136
2008: 176
2009: 149
2010: 179
.. you'll notice decreases in total headcount from 2005 to
2006 and from 2008 to 2009, and as those who attended in 2006
and 2009 will certainly attest, both events were well-enjoyed
and highly successful.
However, for those who like to see increasing numbers, if we
look at the sign-ups for our two largest gatherings, we do see
some projected increases. Keep in mind that these numbers are
for those dining, not those through the door. The numbers in
parentheses are the 98 percentile extrapolation, which we will
use below.
Total count for activity Welcome Dinner: 119 (121)
Estimated turnout for Welcome Dinner: 92.3 (94)
Total count for activity Bahama Breeze Dinner: 106 (108)
Estimated turnout for Bahama Breeze Dinner: 84.6 (86)
Historically, we've seen about 70% of those through the door
at these things do the dining option. However, let's use the
factor ot 80% for some conservative estimates here.
If those wishing to eat constitute 80% of the turnout at these
two activities, we get at least 117 through the door for the
Artisan WC, which would be a very healthy record, and at least
107 through the door at Bahama Breeze, which would again be a
record for that venue.
I'm interpreting these numbers as a heightened desire to more
fully participate, and that's a Good Thing<tm>.

Pre-DLV:
Sabrina writes:
As far as the pre-DLV gathering I don't care either works, just
let us know the time and place. Public exposure is no problem
for this girl.
. . . . . . . . . .
All: It appears that the consensus is for the Firefly Paradise
for the Pre-DLV gathering. Any objections or concerns, please
say so in the next list cycle. Otherwise let's consider it to
be solid.
Thanks for the input and suggestions, gang! :)

Volunteer Social:
Sabrina writes:
Hi, as far as the volunteer social goes, my vote is Thursday at
the Artisan.
. . . . . . . . . . .
This appears to be the clear consensus between the two options
which were mentioned. Let's consider it solid.
We've also made some adjustments to the daily lunch schedule,
to better work this in. This (V/PV Social) will be our "official"
lunch for Thursday.

Group Photo:
Cynthia, or whoever is familiar with the layout of the Artisan:
Can you think of a location, preferably an attractive one, where
we can get a group photo?
I know we won't have the room we've had at places like Steven
David's, Goodtimes, Caesars, or the Plaza, but any place where
we can get close to 100 bodies in kind of a semicircle, very
cozy, is fine. The minimum dimensions we'll need is maybe a
20-25' posing area with 15-20' distance from subjects to camera.
If we can get them in a 100-110 degree angle or so, I can get
the shot.

Betty's Cyber Cafe:
Rosada writes:
One suggestion for the LFM that might help is directions for getting to
Betty's Cyber Cafe. I know it's somewhere in the IP, but not sure its
exact floor or location. If someone was to call me for directions, I
wouldn't be able to help them.
. . . . . . . . . .
Very good point! Thanks. :)
I will scare up an Imperial Palace property map, highlight
Betty's, and put it on the maps page, as well as a verbal
description in the LFM.
We might also consider using this rendezvous point as a
Welcome Celebration Carpool Assembly point on Monday, maybe
5:45pm or so. I know we've had drivers speak up on DISC in
recent days and offer rides from the IP to golf and such.
Any comments about this?

LFM issues:
Sarah writes (quoted):
>Two things caught my eye.
>First was a "V" on the area map that was not referenced on the
>index. Near Desert Inn and Maryland(?).
IIRC there are two symbols not used. I guess I can get out the
electronic bottle of white-out and obliterate them.
>Second was in the "What to do when someone just shows up" area.
>The text reads For example, if someone you meet wants to join us
>for lunch, please get the "OK" from Ginger or Mary Beth before
>giving permission to attend or disclosing the location. If it's
>Mary Beth Cooper being referenced, I thought she was unable to
>at tend this year and won't be a contact.
Good catch. That was WRT Lunch With Mary Beth last year.
>Other than that, I'll need more coffee before I read it again.
>Lots of good work here, thanks again
Yer very welcome. :)

Rosada writes (quoted):
>Okay, I read the first draft of the LFM and the Working schedule
>in their entirety (Oh my poor eyeballs!!) and I didn't spot any of
>the following: Typos, spelling, grammatical errors, Factual errors,
>Anachronisms, Dead or stale links, Omissions ...
>It looks like it's ready to go!! - Rosada
Thanks, Rosada. The once-over is what we need. :)

Check-in locations:
Katie writes:
Please can you post the names of those who I can check in with
and the locations where they will be. From what I have read Annie
and Ginger are the only official checker inners!
I don't arrive till' Late Monday night and I would like to do this
before I attend my frist event which will be the Marino show on
Wednesday and neither Annie nor Ginger will be there.
I will also be at the Limo Night so if checking in is absolutely
essential I presume that I can do it there.
. . . . . . . . . .
Yes, Ginger and Annie will be the main check-in hostesses, but
the kits may be handed off to others as the need dictates. The
litany of check-in locations is not in stone, but it's safe to
say that the daily lunch will always be a check-in location.
Frank Marino is not a planned check-in activity, but if we have
a volunteer who will absolutely-positively-no-excuses volunteer
to pick up a check-in kit and have it there, it can be and we
can mark it as such.
