Org List:
This is the DLV 2011 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

This mailing:
Quick touch-base mailing again, various items, nothing urgent.
The main section of the Large Final Mailing, first draft, is
below. A proofread is appreciated.
Here are the latest numbers:
Reconfirmed : 153
First notice : 3
Second notice : 6
Canc. pending : 21
Again, keep in mind that these numbers are registrations and
not individuals.
The only sign-ups yet to come in will be a few stragglers.
Most of those who have not responded will fall off into the
no-response black hole within the next few days.
If anybody needs the contact information for those signed up
for your activities, please write in and let us know.

Volunteer Social:
We need to work toward a decision on this, if it's to happen.
We've had two suggestions:
1. Thursday, early afternoon, Artisan.
2. Friday, pre-Happy Hour, Bahama Breeze.
Comments or preferences on either of these?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Pre-DLV gathering:
Katie writes:
I have heard the Firefly on Paradise Rd mentioned a few times and
thought that this might be a good option for the Pre D L V get together.
I can't be there as I don't arrive till' Monday night I thought it might
be be a good idea to try this and see what it is like for future events.
. . . . . . . . . .
Marisa writes:
I would also like to suggest the Firefly for pre DLV.
They will take 20-30 people on a no contract, first come first
serve deal. We would be in the banquet-overflow room, but there
could be other people in there as they us it for overflow and
there are bathrooms separate from the restaurant in there.
I'm sure michael at the DCR would also take care of us without
a contract too, but it's about a 2 block, in public walk for the
newbee and nervous girl.
. . . . . . . . . .
The wind appears to be blowing in the direction of the Firefly
Paradise for this. Do we have a consensus? Are there any
objections to the Firefly for the Pre-DLV thing? If so, please
speak now.
If Marisa is cool with the duplication, I am too.
I'm sure that Marisa is aware that we have no way of getting
any kind of an accurate headcount for this. The only numbers
we can give will be from history, along the line of the past
few years drawing 20-30-ish people.
Comments? Going once ...
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Greeting:
Beverly writes:
I will be available to be a greeter at the WC gathering.
. . . . .
Delaney writes:
I could help greet at the Welcome HH. I plan on going to the dinner, but
could certainly help out beforehand.
. . . . .
Marisa writes:
I would like to greet at the WC, the EHM and of course the
Firefly on tuesday.
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks all. Your help will be appreciated. Please try to be
a bit early, and, of course, keep an eye out for those who
are arriving, particularly those who are obviously new or
might not appear to be confortable.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Map and schedule:
Julie writes:
I have a suggestion as to the maps and schedule, is it possible
to have one(1) copy on the web and let everybody that wants one
to just print it out and bring it with them, it seems like
everybody that the map and schedule pertains to has a computer
and they could just bring it with them.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
That is exactly what we used to do prior to 2009, and by default,
that's what we'll do now since we're lacking a volunteer to print
it.
Yes, 99.99% of our attendees have access to a computer and printer.
We're very much an on-line event. Not only do virtually all of
the attendees have a home or office computer, each year more and
more have various devices such as the Blackberry, I-Phone, other
various smartphones, netbooks, etc., and (excepting an outage)
will be able to view the maps and schedules with no need for a
printed copy, either handed out or self-printed.
I've actually snagged myself a purse-size netbook (Ginger has
seen it) and I plan to be as paperless as I can at this DLV.
. . . . . . . . . .
Rosada writes:
About the printed map issue.... Why don't you have each of the
event coordinators post a link for directions to their individual
event locations for those that plan to attend those particular
events. That way each person can print them out and the
responsibility lies (lays) with (on) them. Let me know if you
want me to post the directions to the Stratosphere, Shiloh and
Chappala's.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
I think we may have a bit of a misunderstanding.
We're really not in search of a solution here. We are, (or
rather were) in search of a volunteer to duplicate the existing
solution. The map and schedule are already done, put to bed,
camera-ready. All locations or rendezvous points are on there.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Big Sister hotline:
Nora writes:
I do not think there will be a problem fielding emergency Big
Sister issues. There have only been a few calls involving a Big
Sister emergencies in the past and barring a hotel meltdown,
which given what I know of this years Little Sisters I do not
see this happening.
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks Nora.
We'll put you down as the Big Sister Emergency Hotline and
Crystal and I will stand watch for general phone calls. If
you get trapped in a family matter and need to hand off any
calls to me, please feel free to do so. I'll have a local
702 phone with me (most likely the 7335 one this year) and
I'll be a local call within the LV metro area, at least for
DLV week.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Shooting and such:
Vanessa writes:
Great news, my conflict cleared for DLV and Danielle and I will
be coming so I can step back into the Shooting Activity and host
that as well as supply the trophies. I can bring a few handguns
but will have to rely upon some of the other girls who are driving
in to bring the long guns.
Did anyone step in and offer to help as I can always use some help.
I have signed up for available activities.....
to Joann if you are hosting the High Tea, we really enjoyed that
last year and hope you can squeeze Danielle and I in if at all
possible.
Can't wait for the 3 weeks to pass...let me know if you need
help with anything else.
. . . . . . . . . .
Great news, Vanessa!
Densie, Tony, and Laura T. have all either volunteered or
expressed interest in doing so.
You might want to post a "What Is A?" type of item to the DLV
Discussion Forum to announce and confirm details and generate
interest in this activities.
Danielle is taking the lead on the High Tea this year. Others
are assisting and payment can be made at a number of activities.

CD com social:
Sara writes:
A couple (final, I hope) requests regarding my events...
>I might caution all Coordinators to think long and hard before
>bumping up reservation numbers or bringing in more help. In
>most cases, that lower "estimated turnout" number will be
>closer to the actual headcount than the total sign-up. If you
>have a smaller activity with a low limit, please request the
>contact information for your participants and do some proactive
>confirmation.
Caution noted but I have checked with the restaurant and we are
able to be accommodated as a large party of 30 (at 3 tables of
10 in from what I can tell might be a semi-private area described
as a 2nd floor balcony). Any overflow can then be seated in the
restaurant proper, thus allowing us to lift the cap and eliminate
the waiting list.
If the "machine's" numbers hold true, we'd only get 30-ish total
anyway but either way, if all who sign up were to show, the
restaurant can accommodate.
Regardless of whether or not the cap is lifted, the restaurant
does have a 2 hour limit for the larger area and as such, I
really need the following to be re-worded...
5:30pm: Arrival Crossdressers.com Social (PF Changs) ms
PF Changs DINNER, seating at 6:00 (PF Changs Planet Hollywood) - ms
7:00pm: PF Changs option (PF Changs Planet Hollywood) - ms
Between the time constraint for dinner and the layout of PF Chang's
not being very conducive to a mingling sort of happy hour, these
changes become necessary. I will likely start a thread on the DLV
Board to explain the details, how I will handle the seating, etc.
I will do so once the changes above are approved. I wouldn't
anticipate a significant number of drops due to the changes but
even so, this slight alteration to the arrangements at the
restaurant will make the dinner a much better experience.
>If you want the contact information for your activity, just
>write in and say so. It can be quickly produced.
Yes, I would like this for the Macy's Makeovers on Friday.
. . . . . . . . . . .
You are the doctor, and if you say to move the dinner to 6:00pm
we'll do it, as long as you'll be responsible for any fall-out
from doing so. I get the impression that the most of the group
signed up for this is fairly tight, so I'm hoping that things
will adjust without many issues.
We'll note the changes in the general mailing next weekend and
post the same in the "Late Notices" in the Large Final Mailing.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
First draft of Large Final Mailing:
Oh no! Not another massive proofread! Uh-huh ... :)
One particular note: This was prepared prior to any additions
or changes discussed in this ORG mailing.
. . . . . . . . . . .
This is the main section of what will be the Large Final Mailing
for this year. Since most of it is boilerplate and recycled items,
we should give it a good once-over to be sure it's current,
relevant, and accurate.
Please be on the lookout for ...
Typos, spelling, grammatical errors.
Factual errors.
Anachronisms (references to DLV 2010 and such)
Dead or stale links (very embarrassing!)
Omissions, particularly volunteer credits.
Thanks, gang!

group for any remaining discussion.
. . . . .
You're all set!
All you really have to do is to show up at one of the activities,
such Pre-DLV get-together on Saturday (this is not on the schedule,
see notice in this mailing), MCC services, any of the Sunday
evening activities, Lunch With Ginger, Happy Hour, Monday dinner
and Welcome Celebration, etc.
We will be expecting you.
. . . . .
Please remember the Golden Rule Of DLV:
HAVE FUN - HAVE A LOT OF FUN!
DON'T HAVE YOUR FUN AT THE EXPENSE OF OTHERS!
When incidents have occurred in the past, it's often the case
that those not involved in the improper behavior are the ones
who get the wrong end of the stick! :(
. . . . .
If you're new, perhaps a bit uncertain, uneasy, that's ok. All
of us have been there before and we know what it's like. We will
do all we can to make this an enjoyable and most memorable
experience for you.
Remember, even though you may not know any of the others prior
to DLV, you will be among friends. This year we will be paying
particular attention to hospitality toward newcomers.
If you get to Las Vegas and feel uneasy about walking into a
large group activity and would feel better first meeting someone
from the group one on one, let us know. We'll make that happen.
Also don't forget about the Beginner Open House on Monday, Tuesday,
and Wednesday of DLV week.
If you somehow have trouble getting the nerve to walk out of
your hotel room to go to your first activity, let us know.
Phone us. (See Big Sister Emergency Hotline in this mailing.)
We'll get a Big Sister to you pronto to assure you and escort
you, if necessary.
Likewise, if you get "stuck" in your vehicle, use your cell
phone or find a drive-up pay phone to contact us. We'll get
a Big Sister to walk that last mile with you.
Don't be shy about asking for a Big Sister escort if you feel
uneasy!
. . . . .
When you get to DLV, if something is wrong, let us know! We want
your comments and feedback, on the spot, positive or negative.
If you feel uneasy or you're uncomfortable with anything, ask for
a Big Sister to accompany and assist you.
If you see anything that could be improved on, please feel free
to make suggestions, either on the spot or in the feedback
survey after the event.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
LATE NOTICES:
IMPORTANT: WE WILL NOT BE HANDING OUT PAPER COPIES OF
MAPS OR SCHEDULES THIS YEAR!
. . .
Schedule notes:
The daily lunch is being held at different locations each day
this year. Please be aware of this. The locations on the final
schedule are accurate and may differ from some previously or
erroneously announced locations.
. . .
The main activity map has been completely re-done for DLV 2011.
Lettered and numbered tags on previous years' maps will not
correspond with those on the final schedule for this year.
. . . . .
Please ask in person as you check in to see if there are any
schedule additions and changes that were too late for this
mailing.
Activity sign-up is now closed. Please see the individual
coordinators of any activities you still want to get in on.
. . . . .
Early birds:
For those of you who will be in Las Vegas on Saturday, April
2, there will be two opportunities to get together with the
DLV group.
First is ...
GET INFO HERE!
As for dress for this activity, anything from very casual
to very dressy, boymode or girlmode, will be fine. No
costumes, clubwear, or slutty/fetish outfits for this
activity, please.
No official start time but we expect DLV people to begin
arriving about 6:00pm or so. No official end time either.
Again, this is very "safe" for beginners.
Be there or be L7! :)
The second is the screening of the Rocky Horror Picture Show
This is at the Tropicana Cinema on the northwest corner of
the intersection of Tropicana and Pecos.
THE TIME FOR THE RHPS SCREENING IS 10:00pm SATURDAY!
Note that this time is correct, and is not the "customary"
time for a RHPS screening!
As for dress, anything goes! Flashy/trashy/slutty/fetish is
not only appropriate but encouraged!
. . . . .

(Pack an umbrella. It doesn't rain that often in Las Vegas, but
when it does it POURS!)
. . . . .
Possible confusing vendor and venue names:
We have a number of activities this year happening in venues
which have confusingly similar names or multiple locations
throughout the Las Vegas area.
Here's a summary of those activities happening in locations
which may be easily confused:
1. There are several PT's Pub locations in the area. The one
we are using for our activities is the one on Sahara Avenue in
the vicinity of 6th. Street.
2. There are two Firefly locations in the area. We will be using
the one on Paradise Road for the Tuesday evening activities.
3. There are several properties using the Hilton name in one
form or another. The Lunch With Ginger will happen at the main
Las Vegas Hilton on Paradise Road.
4. There are two Chapala's restaurants in the area. The one we
will use on Tuesday is the one on east Tropicana.
5. There are three Milano's Pizza and Pasta locations in the
area. The one we will use is at the intersection of Paradise
and Naples, signed as 4640 Paradise but faces Naples.
6. There are several MAC cosmetic centers in the area. The one
we'll use is in the Town Square shopping center, south of
Mandalay Bay on the Strip.
7. "Charlies" is a country-themed bar in the Tropicana-Arville
area. We'll use it on Thursday evening and probably visit it
on the Bar Crawl. It has no connection to the "Charles Bar",
which is our nickname for the casino bar to the left of Caramel
in the Bellagio.
8. Bare Escentuals [sic] is the correct name and spelling of
the shop in the Fashion Show Mall which hosts our makeover
sessions on Wednesday. The name is very similar to another
firm, to which it has no connection.
9. There are multiple Macy's branded stores in the area. The
one we will use for the makover sessions is the one in the
Fashion Show Mall on the Strip.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Making contact and checking in:
Unlike most other TG events, at Diva Las Vegas there will be
no central "headquarters" and no permanent check-in desk.
Check-in for Diva Las Vegas is informal and is done by one
or two volunteers at the activities which are marked "Check
In Available" on the final schedule.
Check-in for DLV is totally independent from any checking
in to hotels. In most cases, the desk agents at our suggested
hotels will not know what "Diva Las Vegas" is or how to get
in contact with the group.
If you need to get in touch with a DLV representative for any
reason before you check in, please phone one of the DLV
contact numbers included in this mailing.
The activities at which you may check in include the following:
1. Pre-DLV get-together, Saturday evening. (off-schedule)
2. Alternative Common Gathering, Sunday.
3. The main daily lunch, Monday thru Friday.
4. Welcome Meet And Greet, Monday evening.
5. Other activities marked "Check-in available" on the schedule.
When you get to your first DLV activity, look for one of our
volunteer greeters or ask for the DLV volunteer who is taking
names. He or she will give you your name badge, get you checked
in, and ask you if you have any questions or concerns.
See detailed schedule and maps on how to find the locations,
when and where to meet, etc. We will be expecting you!
Don't worry. If check-in is not available at the first activity
you want to attend, you will still be admitted as long as your
name is on the DLV roster. You may have to wait to actually
check in and get your name badge, however.
We reserve the right to require proof of age when checking in.
(Minimum age for DLV is 18, some venues may require age 21.)
Some of our venues may require proof of age for admission or
for cocktail service. We've tried to note "21 and over" on
the final schedule for activities we know may be restricted,
but this may not be all-inclusive and may be subject to errors.
In any case, if you have any difficulty finding any of the
locations, or finding the group within any of the venues,
find a phone and let us know. We'll give you explicit
directions. Contact numbers are included in this mailing.
. . . . .
Contacting the group:
For general information, to find out how to meet up with the
group, if you need activity information, directions, etc.,
contact:
Annie: 702-271-7335 (local call from Las Vegas)
Crystal: 917-659-2646 (long distance from Las Vegas)
Big Sister Hotline: If you need the immediate assistance of a Big
Sister, for advice, reassurance, if you are "stuck" in a hotel
room or vehicle, etc., contact our Big Sister Emergency Hotline:
Nora: 702-292-3507 (local call from Las Vegas)
Important note: Please do not use the above numbers for the
purpose of asking for a ride. You will be told to please take
a taxi, which is very "safe", even for beginners.
Also, please do not use these numbers after DLV has concluded.
Cell phones don't work very well in some buildings in Las Vegas,
so if you phone and don't get an answer, try one of the other
numbers or wait a while.
Keep trying if necessary.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Important announcements during the event:
Until this year, we've had no means of effectively passing on
any important notices during DLV. This year we will try using
the MyDLV "Chirp" mechanism to disseminate any important
updates or information which may come to light during the event.
Chirps of an important nature will come from the MyDLV user
account of "administrator" during DLV 2011.
We promise that we will use this only for important notices,
and we will not "spam" your cell phone with promotional or
trivial information. All chirps sent from "administrator"
during DLV will be of importance with two exceptions:
1. One single "test" chirp sent from "administrator" to all
during the afternoon of Saturday, April 2.
2. One chirp from "administrator" to all announcing a particular
reward, sent sometime during DLV 2011.
. . . . . . . . . .
Most text-capable cell phones have the ability to receive (and
to send) MyDLV Chirps.
To get set up to receive any important announcement Chirps
during DLV, do the following:
1. Join MyDLV if you are not a member. You can do this here:
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/mydlv/
It's free and there is very little formality.
If you're already a MyDLV member and you know your user name
and password, go on to step 2 below.
If you're a MyDLV member and have forgotten your username or
password, just send a brief e-mail to: tech@geekbabe.com and
we will get you on the right track. Please do not re-register
for MyDLV. That's the hard way!
2. Find the correct address for sending text messages to your
cell phone. Hints for this for several cell phone carriers appear
on line here:
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/mydlv/mainforum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1308
If your carrier is not listed, consult their web page or phone
their customer service.
3. Sign in to MyDLV.
4. Click on the "Manage Chirps" link on the main MyDLV screen.
5. Find the "Manage External Secondary Chirp Subscriptions"
section under category 3.
6. Using the "(select to add)" drop box under category 3,
select the user name "administrator", which appears about half
way down in the list, as it begins with a lower-case "a".
7. Enter your cell phone's address which you determined in step
2, above, in the "At secondary e-mail address" field. Be VERY
careful to type it correctly!
8. Click on the "Add external secondary e-mail Chirp Subscription"
button.
You're all set!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Welcome Meet-And-Greet:
Our welcome Meet And Greet will be the largest gathering of
attendees during DLV 2011. We encourage all to attend, whether
or not you will be dining with us. The entire evening is open
to all. "No sign-up, just show up!"
Our 2011 Welcome Meet And Great will occur at the Artisan
Hotel, about 1/2 mile west of the Strip on Sahara Avenue.
It will occur in three parts on Monday of DLV week:
1. Happy Hour, beginning at 6:00pm.
2. Dinner, optional, beginning at 7:00pm. Sign-up is requested
for the dinner portion, but cocktails will be available to all
while dinner is served.
3. After-dinner socializing, including the "official" group
photo at 8:30pm.
Directions appear below.
If you have any difficulty finding or getting to the Artisan,
or finding the group within the facility, or if you're having
any trouble finding parking, please phone our contact people
and we will help you out.
. . . . . . . . . .
Directions to the Artisan Hotel:
The Artisan is located just southeast of the Sahara exit on
I-15. This is about 1/2 mile west of the Strip on Sahara
Avenue. Although the Artisan carries a Sahara Avenue address,
access to the facility and to parking is via Highland Drive
and Westwood Drive.
Visual notes to help you get to the Artisan are included on
our map page at: http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv/2011/maps/
General directions:
(1) If traveling west on Sahara Avenue, bear right as you
approach I-15 from the east and take the exit to Highland
Drive. THIS EXIT IS NOT WELL MARKED!
The exit to Highland is the last right turnoff before the
overhead I-15 signs. Follow south under Sahara and turn
right into the Artisan.
(2) If traveling east on Sahara Avenue, bear right and take
the turn to Highland Drive just after you pass the I-15
junction. Watch closely! It comes up quickly! It's not well
marked.
. . . . .
Specific directions from our suggested hotels:
If coming from the Imperial Palace or Bally's, exit the garage
to the rear of the property on Audrie Street. Follow Audrie
south to Flamingo Road. Turn right (west) on Flamingo. Follow
Flamingo west and follow signs to I-15 northbound. Exit I-15
heading eastbound on Sahara Avenue and follow (2) above.
. . . . .
If coming from Paris, exit the parking garage to the rear heading
south on Audrie St. Turn left (east) on Harmon Avenue. Take
Harmon east to Koval Lane. Turn left (north) on Koval and proceed
two blocks north to Flamingo Road. Turn left (west) on Flamingo
and follow Flamingo west and follow signs to I-15 northbound.
Exit I-15 heading eastbound on Sahara Avenue and follow (2) above.
. . . . .
If coming from the MGM Grand, exit the parking garage on either
Audrie or Koval and turn south toward Tropicana Avenue. Turn
left (west) on Tropicana and follow signs to I-15 northbound.
Exit I-15 heading eastbound on Sahara Avenue and follow (2) above.
. . . . .
If coming from the Rio, take Flamingo Road east to I-15 north.
Take I-15 north to Sahara Avenue. Exit I-15 heading eastbound
on Sahara Avenue and follow (2) above.
As a last resort:
If all else fails, start from Palace Station, turn R on Sahara,
stay R and turn R on Highland, turn R at stop sign and R at the
first driveway.
If you get lost or need help, phone one of our contact people
and we will "talk you in" like ATC. :)
If coming by taxi: "Artisan" All taxi drivers know it.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
The Restroom Situation:
As our group becomes larger and becomes more visible to the
general public, it becomes more and more important to exercise
caution when using public restrooms, especially when the group
is obvious and has attracted the attention of onlookers.
Unfortunately we've been plagued by restroom incidents and
issues during our recent years, and we're asking the cooperation
of all to help everyone have an enjoyable and hassle-free DLV
experience.
. . . . . . . . . .
The specific poor practices which have led to restroom issues
and incidents in recent years include:
1. Standing to urinate in the stall.
2. Using public restrooms in groups.
3. Obviously entering a public restroom when the group is
highly visible to onlookers.
4. Obvious male voices in a ladies room. (Stalls have ears!)
. . . . . . . . . .
A special note to those staying at the Imperial Palace:
We expect the group to be highly visible at the Imperial Palace
this year. For this reason, we're asking all who are staying at
the Imperial Palace or otherwise on the property to take very
particular precautions regarding restrooms. Restroom incidents
have occurred at the IP in the past and DLV attendees (both those
at fault and totally innocent) have been asked to leave the
property due to restroom misuse.
If you are staying at the Imperial Palace, we're asking you to
please use the restroom in your hotel room and avoid public
restrooms in the casino areas. We're aware that this may be a
slight inconvenience or a pinprick to the ego to do so, but we
are asking you to please consider the comfort of the group as a
whole and follow this practice.
If you're visiting the Imperial Palace but not staying there,
please be very cautious of using public restrooms. As of this
writing there are no known unisex or lockable single-occupant
public restrooms on the Imperial Palace property. There is an
"out of the way" set of gendered restrooms by the entrance to
the Monorail station. If you choose to use these, please be
very cautious and remember that it's at your own risk!
. . . . . . . . . .
The following links discuss the restroom situation in some
depth and give examples of good and poor practice for using
public restrooms:

Diva Las Vegas Photo Guidelines:
If you have any specific questions or concerns about photography
at DLV, please see Annie or Ginger in person. Ask any DLV
volunteer if you do not know these individuals.
The basic rule is for everybody to use consideration, courtesy,
and common sense when taking photographs at DLV.
Although we understand that some attendees may be camera-shy,
and we respect the wishes of those who do not wish to be
photographed, there are no guarantees.
. . . . .
Media guidelines:
We do not issue press passes nor waive registration for media
representatives.
If you represent the press or any commercial media, either in
print or on line, we ask that you submit your proposals IN
ADVANCE by e-mail (dlv@geekbabe.com) for our review prior
to making arrangements to attend.
If your publication or web site is sexually-oriented (if it
is intended to arouse, as opposed to inform or to entertain),
we respectfully ask that you do not cover our event.
We ask that any reporters, photographers, and other media
representatives follow procedure and register for the event
as attendees.
REPORTERS, PHOTOGRAPHERS, AND OTHER MEDIA
REPRESENTATIVES WHO SHOW UP UNANNOUNCED WILL
BE TURNED AWAY, SORRY!
When you check in at DLV, we ask that you first identify
yourself to Annie or Ginger, (the DLV check-in host or
hostess will identify these individuals to you) prior to taking
any photos or conducting any interviews, and follow certain
guidelines which will be discussed or reviewed with you in person.
You may request an advance copy of our complete Media Guidelines
if you wish. (e-mail: dlv@geekbabe.com)
. . . . .
Attendee guidelines:
At most DLV activities, there are no general restrictions on
the taking of noncommercial personal photographs.
It can be assumed that many people present will have cameras
and will be taking pictures throughout the event at all
activities.
Some activities may have special photography requests,
conditions, and restrictions. These cases will be clearly
noted here or on the detailed schedule.
Please ask permission of all in view of the camera before
taking any photos at the Beginner Open House, the Dinner At
Home, or the Pajama Party.
If you wish to take pictures at Metropolitan Community Church,
please do so after the service.
There may be photography restrictions at various tour locations.
Please consult signs or ask a staff member.
One particular after-hours venue has a very strict no-camera,
no-cell-phone rule. Signs abound.
Shows will usually have strict photography prohibitions.
Many casinos have photography restrictions or prohibitions.
We reserve the right to take action should anyone's photography
either distract from the purpose of a DLV activity or create an
uneasy atmosphere at a DLV activity.
It can also be assumed that a significant number of the photos
taken at DLV will end up on the web.
. . . . .
Camera-shy individuals, please follow these guidelines:
1. In a courteous manner, please inform anybody who is taking
pictures if you do not want to be photographed. Remind them at
each activity at which they are taking pictures. Please don't
assume that they will remember who you are or that you do not
wish to be photographed. Refresh their memory if they point a
camera your way.
2. Be aware that during the excitement of the moment, those
taking pictures may not remember that you do not wish to be
photographed. If somebody points a camera your way, wave him
or her off or turn your head. A "push-off" wave of one hand
with the palm forward or a "pilots wave" of both hands with
palms forward and forearms in an "X" are almost certainly to
be recognized as a "don't shoot" signal.
3. If you don't want to be photographed, do not pose whenever
a call is made for a group photograph, including informal group
photographs at such activities as the Limo Tour and Golf.
. . . . .
Photographers, please observe the following:
1. Please respect the wishes of those who do not want to be
photographed. From our organizers' perspective, the right to
not be photographed comes before your right to take photographs.
2. Please use discretion when photographing anybody in boymode,
mixed-mode, or any state of undress or incomplete dress.
3. Please look beyond the subject of your photographs to avoid
including those in the background who might not want to be in
your photographs.
. . . . .
We encourage individuals to take personal photos at all DLV
activities. If you attend the smaller activities (High Tea,
shopping, etc.) or if you get together with others and do things
on your own, please get some photos, as there will be fewer
cameras present than at the major activities.
After DLV, there will be a "Call For Photos" and everybody is
asked to submit their photos.
We will not accept photos which have been obviously altered,
such as eyes blacked out, blurred faces, captioned, obvious
fakes or composites, etc.
When we put together the "official" DLV followup pages, we
will post all candidate photos in a private staging area. All
attendees will have the opportunity to preview these and everybody
will have a reasonable number of "no" votes on any photos in which
they appear.
. . . . .
Photo hints:
If you have a digital camera with the feature that stamps the date
on the photo, please consider turning that off. You'll find that
the software that manages your photos or your PC and/or your
computer's operating system will timestamp your files in a way
that does not ruin the photo.
If you want that date in there, consider composing your photo such
that the subject you want is to the left and above the date for
most cameras when taking in "landscape" mode.
If you're taking photos of people on a stage which is lit using
stage lights, set your flash for "always on" or "fill" so you will
be sure to get adequate lighting. Many point-and-shoot cameras are
confused by stage lighting and will not give the best results with
the flash in the "auto" mode.
. . . . .
"Official" group photos:
We will be taking "official" group photos at the Welcome
Meet And Greet on Monday evening. Listen for announcements
prior to the photos. This will be at 8:30pm sharp.
We will be making high-res images of these available to all
promptly.
We're asking everybody's cooperation in order to get everybody
assembled, posed, and the photos taken in a timely manner. This
will hopefully keep the grumbling to a minimum. :)
1. Posing for these is OPTIONAL! It's an opt-in process. However,
once they are taken, it's a done deal. There's no blacking out
eyes or blurring of faces.
2. Please consider others. Even though you may not mind spending
15 minutes posing, others will want to get it over with as soon as
possible, so please respect their wishes and help us get everybody
posed and the photos taken without delay.
3. When the call is made to pose, please leave all food, drink, and
smoking material and proceed to the photo area. Please assemble with
shorter individuals in the front, taller individuals in the rear,
and please follow instructions of the volunteers who will be placing
you as you pose.
4. If you're not posing, please stay clear of the photo area. Please
do your best to avoid distracting those who are posing or those
involved with taking the photos.
"The camera snaps at 8:30pm sharp." Please be on time if you
wish to be included.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
If something is wrong:
We take pride in putting on an event which is highly enjoyed
by the vast majority of attendees.
If for some reason something is interfering with your enjoyment
of Diva Las Vegas, we want to know about it, and the sooner
the better!
First, please consider ...
Diva Las Vegas would not be possible if it were not for our
many dedicated volunteers. These volunteers have given their
time, effort, and in many cases their own money to allow DLV
to happen.
Please keep in mind that our DLV volunteers are just that,
volunteers, and not professional event promoters. These
individuals are unpaid, and in too many cases unthanked
for their efforts and contributions.
Although we do strive for consistency and excellence, it
is unrealistic to assume that everything at Diva Las Vegas
will always be "just so" and exactly to your liking.
At DLV, you will see quite a variation of organizational
details and leadership styles among our many volunteers.
Some volunteers will take care of every last detail of
their activities, others will paint in very broad strokes,
so to speak.
Each of our activities will have one or more volunteers
who are in charge of that particular activity. These will
be listed on the final detailed schedule.
In almost all cases, these listed volunteer coordinators are
the ones you should turn to in the event that something is
negatively affecting your enjoyment of that activity.
In the event something is wrong, it is very important that
you make your feelings known to those in charge at the time
of the occurrance, as opposed to waiting until it is too late
do do anything about it!
. . . . . . . . . .
If you can't find the group:
If you should ever arrive at an activity location, at or
shortly after the posted start time, and find absolutely no
evidence of the DLV group being present, phone one of our
contact people listed in the contact section.
These individuals will know how to contact the coordinator
of the activity at hand if necessary.
Same goes if you're late for something and the group has
moved on, such as the Art Tour, Bar Crawl, etc. We'll get
you in touch with the group so you can catch up.
. . . . .
If there is nobody obvious as a host(ess) or greeter:
At all of our larger activities there will be individuals who
are standing by to greet newcomers and, if appropriate, check
in attendees who have not done so. At the smaller activities,
greeting is done by the activity coordinators or an assistant
or designee.
If a greeter or host(ess) is not obvious, ask anyone present.
If you should get some kind of a non-answer or several "I dunno"
responses, ask to see the primary coordinator of that activity.
This individual will be named on the detailed final schedule.
PLEASE DO NOT WALK OFF!
If there is nobody present to greet you, it is an oversight and
not a snub! If you feel you're not being properly greeted or
welcomed and the primary coordinator is not available, ask to
speak to any of the senior volunteers (Ginger, Annie, Nora, JoAnn,
etc.) and if none are available, find a phone and notify one of
the DLV contact persons of the situation.
. . . . . . . . . .
For minor issues:
If you encouter such things as slow service, wrong menu items
being delivered, problems with your meal or drink, wrong amount
on your check, etc., please bring this to the attention of the
venue staff if you are comfortable doing so.
If you are not comfortable in dealing with the venue staff,
please ask the coordinator of record to help you bring your
concerns to the attention of the staff and management.
. . . . . . . . . .
If you're at risk of bailing out:
We're aware of several cases throughout our history where an
attendee has traveled to Las Vegas, checked into the hotel,
got ready to go to one of our activities, and then by such
things as anxiety or uncertainty, failed to take that last
step and did not make contact with the group.
We're also aware of cases where an attendee has "bailed out"
while driving to one of our activities or when parking in the
lot outside of one of our venues.
If anything like this should happen to you, find a phone and
call our Big Sister Hotline or any of the listed DLV contact
people.
THIS IS NOTHING TO BE ASHAMED OF!
PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO PHONE!
Many of our volunteers have been in this situation personally
and understand it first hand. We'll do everything we can do to
help, up to and including sending a volunteer Big Sister to
assure you and escort you if necessary!
. . . . . . . . . .
Behavior and dress issues:
If you sincerely believe that another attendee's manner of
dress is out of compliance with our guidelines, to the degree
that it is negatively impacting your enjoyment of the current
DLV activity, or if the behavior of another attendee is such
that your enjoyment of the activity is negatively impacted,
find the primary coordinator of record for the particular
activity which is in progress. He or she will be listed on
the final schedule, or you can simply ask around to determine
who this is.
This is the person who is in charge of the activity, and who
is the one primarily responsible for the attendees' enjoyment
and comfort at that activity.
Ask to speak to the coordinator in private and please step out
of earshot of other DLV attendees. Explain your concerns to
this individual. Don't be surprised if the coordinator invites
an assistant or another volunteer to hear of the situation as
well.
This is the only person who has the authority to unilaterally
act in regards to behavior or dress issues. The coordinator of
record has the options of consulting with the attendee in
question regarding behavior or dress, requesting that the
attendee go change into a more appropriate outfit, or asking
the attendee to leave the activity, not to return.
The coordinator of record may also choose to meet with other
DLV volunteers to decide what action, if any, is to be taken.
The coordinator of record also has the option to either
actively or passively decline to take action.
It should be noted that no other DLV volunteer, regardless
of seniority or named leadership position, has the authority
to unilaterally act under these circumstances.
. . . . .
Other action on dress and behavior:
There are no standing rules, regulations, or guidelines which
prohibit any attendee from informally advising another on their
dress, presentation, or deportment.

. . . . . . . . . .
Restroom misuse:
If you should observe a case of blatant public restroom misuse
such as going in groups, standing in the stall, obvious use,
etc., please bring this to the attention of the Coordinator
of the activity immediately.
No, you're not being a tattletale, you're preventing a bad
situation from becoming worse!
. . . . . . . . . .
If you are photographed against your wishes:
At Diva Las Vegas there are no general prohibitions against
personal noncommercial photography. Although we do ask that
those taking pictures respect the wishes of those who do not
wish to be photographed, there are no guarantees, and due to
time, place and circumstance, unwanted photography may occur.
We ask all who do not wish to be photographed to please be
proactive and follow the suggestions given in the DLV Photo
Guidelines.
In the event you are photographed against your wishes, the
first thing to do is to consult directly with the person
taking the photos. Please explain your concern in a courteous
manner and ask that he or she refrain from taking any further
photos of you. You may, if you desire, request that the
photographer delete the photos in which you appear, but there
are no DLV regulations which require him or her to do so.
In the event that someone continues to take photos of you
after being asked not to do so, please bring the situation
to the attention of the primary coordinator of record for
the activity at hand. This is the only person having the
authority to unilaterally act in the event of behavior
issues, including refusal to cease unwanted photography.
The primary coordinator of record can take action up to
and including asking a participant to leave an activity or
to refrain from any further photography at that activity,
but does not have the authority to confiscate film or memory
cards or require the deletion of photos.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Name tags, guests, admission, facility use:
Name tags:
A name tag will be provided to you when you check in.
These will be pre-printed with the first name you used when you
registered for DLV.
The actual wearing of name tags is strongly encouraged.
DLV attendees should have their name tags in possession at all
DLV activities. We reserve the right to deny admission to DLV
activities for those not in possession of a valid DLV name tag
or who do not appear on the roster of DLV attendees. Your
understanding and cooperation are appreciated.
The name tag holders will hold a standard 3.5 x 2 inch card such
as a US standard business card. If you would rather use your own
business, social, or calling card in lieu of your DLV name tag,
please feel free to wear it in your name tag holder, turning the
DLV tag's front to the rear of the tag holder in the event that
it is necessary to verify your status as a DLV attendee.
If you have a previous year's tag holder, please bring this
along with you, as tag holders are one of the major (and often
unreimbursed) expenses of putting on DLV.
. . . . .
Venues and facilities:
The street addresses of the venues in which our activities will
be held are listed on the final schedule. These may be used for
such things as telling a taxi driver where to go, inputting into
a GPS, etc. Verbal instructions regarding what to tell a taxi
driver also appear on the final schedule.
The phone numbers for facilities are listed in most cases. These
may be used for such things as directions, where to park, hours
of operation, etc., but SHOULD NOT BE USED AS A MEANS TO
CONTACT THE DLV GROUP. IN ALL BUT A FEW CASES, THE PEOPLE
ANSWERING THESE PHONES WILL HAVE NO IDEA WHAT "DIVA LAS
VEGAS" IS, AND WILL NOT KNOW HOW TO CONTACT A MEMBER OF
THE GROUP!
. . . . .
Guest policy: Nonregistered individuals will not be admitted to
DLV activities.
Bona fide significant others (spouses and committed life partners)
are always welcome, with or without prior arrangement, even if
they do not appear on our roster.
Unannounced tag-alongs and "she's with me" guests will be turned
away if they do not appear on the roster. We ask you to encourage
your friends to follow procedure and register if they wish to
participate in DLV. Instructions for "last minute" registration
are on our web site at this time and will be valid for the entire
duration of DLV.
. . . . .
There is a chance that you may be approached by someone such as
a bar patron, a casino guest, or a member of the general public
who asks you if they can participate in our activities. Prior
to inviting these individuals to any DLV activity, please check
either with one of the senior DLV organizers, or the specific
coordinator(s) for the activities involved. PLEASE DO NOT
GIVE OUT THE TIMES OR LOCATIONS of our activities without
the explicit permission of a senior DLV organizer or the
designated volunteer coordinator of the activity in question.
For example, if someone you meet wants to join us for lunch,
please get the "OK" from Ginger or Mary Beth before giving
permission to attend or disclosing the location.
All guests, if admitted for any reason, must agree to abide by
our conditions of participation and behavior, dress, and restroom
guidelines.
We reserve the right to refuse to admit any individuals who do
not appear on the DLV 2011 roster.
. . . . .
Please refrain from passing out or distributing such items as
flyers, brochures, promotional material, political leaflets,
merchandise samples, etc. at DLV functions. We reserve the right
to prohibit this should it become annoying.
Likewise, the sale of magazines, books, CDs, and other merchandise
at DLV is not allowed except for vendor-sponsored functions. Your
cooperation is appreciated.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Thank you:
Diva Las Vegas is a group effort. Several of the people present
gave unselfishly their time and effort, and in many cases their
own funds, to make DLV happen.
Each of those DLV activities you will soon enjoy were "adopted"
by one or more volunteers who took the necessary steps to make
them happen. Without these efforts there would be no Diva Las
Vegas as we know it.
You will meet these people and get to know them as your peers. If
you appreciate their efforts, please tell them thanks, and let
them know that what they are doing is truly appreciated. If you
feel like doing more than a simple thank you, buy him or her a
drink. There will be many opportunities to do so. :)
These DLV volunteers are the finest people you will ever meet on
any side of life. Everybody has put together their efforts to make
something that is indeed greater than the sum of its parts.
And, if you're interested in becoming a DLV volunteer, please let
us know in person or watch for the "call for volunteers" special
mailing following DLV 2011.

About next year:
For DLV 2012, please do not assume that DLV will be held during
any particular timeframe, such as the same week in the same
month or anything like that.
There are too many variables and too many unknowns to fix the
DLV timeframe to any particular week/month.
The DLV 2012 timeframe will be set during the autumn of 2011
by vote of the DLV volunteers. ETA for a final decision will
be around October 1. Please do not make non-reversible
arrangements until the DLV 2012 dates are announced as final.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Rides and riders:
Please read very carefully, particularly if you will be
needing a ride to DLV activities!
Unlike we have done in previous years, we will not be doing
any official coordination of ride sharing.
If you will be needing local transportation, we suggest
staying in one of our suggested hotels so you will be close
to those with vehicles or close to others with whom you can
share taxi rides.
You may use the DLV Discussion Forum on the web at:
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/mydlv/mainforum/viewforum.php?f=2
.. for the purpose of announcing yourself as a driver
willing to give others a ride to DLV activities, or for
asking for a ride to DLV activities.
Or, consider taking a taxi. Yes!
Taxis are very convenient in Las Vegas, and it is quite "safe"
for you to use one. Taxi drivers depend on tips for much of
their income, so they will seldom if ever jeopardize a tip by
being rude or unfriendly.
Our people have regularly used Las Vegas taxis since the early
days of DLV, and no incidents have been reported.
If you need to take a taxi, go to one of the main entrances of
any of the major hotels and either join the taxi line or tell
the doorkeeper you need a taxi. They are almost always available
promptly. In Las Vegas, taxi drivers are supposed to pick up
riders only at taxi stands (at most every hotel entrance) or from
a radio or phone dispatch. They are not supposed to respond to a
"hail" on the street. If you are on the street, walk to the
nearest major hotel and taxis will usually be waiting.

The Monorail is a convenient means for traveling along the
eastern "Strip" corridor from the MGM at the south end to the
Sahara at the north end. Fare is $5 one way, multi-trip discounts
are usually available. Notes about using the Monorail to get to
DLV activities appear on the directions page sent in this Large
Final Mailing. The Monorail is indicated on the main DLV activity
map.
Paris, Harrah's, MGM Grand and Imperial Palace have Monorail
stations located to the east side of the property. Follow the
signs.
Many DLV attendees have used the Monorail frequently with no
reported incidents. Hint: Do not travel on the Monorail in
groups. If there are more than two of you, split up, different
cars.
The Deuce (double-decker) bus now runs the length of the Las
Vegas Strip, as well as some other major bus routes, and is
considerably nicer than the usual city busses. It has been
reported to be quite slow if the Strip is congested, however.
