Focusing on our options:

Of all of the options discussed, the two which appear to have
the most traction at this time are the Downtown Cocktail Room
and the Artisan.

One of the main components of this "traction" is that we have
enthusiastic volunteers willing to deal with the management
of these venues.

These two options are now our strongest contenders. Let's
focus on these two in the immediate future and "back-burner"
of the others. We can circle back to them if both of the
strongest options (DCR and Artisan) will not work.

I don't believe any of our options, including the strongest two,
are ideal, but I do think that both the DCR and Artisan can be
made to work. There are down-sides of both, but I think we can
neutralize these with effective planning and promotion.

For the time being, let's close the floor to additional venue
suggestions and let Marisa and Cynthia do their things and
report back. We'll need to enter a brief holding pattern on
this topic until we hear back. We also have a few other ORG
items and we'll get out a mailing shortly covering all else.

>I thought Las Palmas was a very nice place, even though it's
>location was somewhat shady. It's menu had a lot of various
>food selections to offer the diner. The interior was nice also
>from what I saw when I walked in.

I agree that this is a possibility, and should be on our
"short list" should neither DCR nor Artisan work out.

>Its also close to the strip if I recall.

It's the better part of a mile from the Strip. I've walked
to Commercial Center from the Sahara, but I'm sure most will
use their own vehicle or else taxi.

>If two nights of back-2-back Mexican isn't too much for the
>gals,

We've had back-to-back Italian (Milano's and Carluccio's) in
the past and I don't remember complaints. Since the Chapalas
thing on Tuesday is a small-medium affair, I really don't see
any major conflict here.

>After thinking about this, I favor the Downtown Cocktail Lounge
>or other such place that will accommodate us.

I agree that this is one of our strongest options, with or
without a full meal.

>Keeping the opening to cocktails and light bar food as we may
>wish to individually order would allow us to mingle better and
>see more people. It would also allow us to eat afterwards where
>we wish rather than having to suffer the limited options of the
>place we are having the opening.

I see advantages and disadvantages of this approach. Yes,
circulation and mingling are encouraged when people are not
strapped in their seats for 20-30 minutes for dinner. On
the other hand, we do have a percentage of attendees who
would be uneasy dining in any of the public dining venues
downtown.

Compromise might be a good appetizer selection.

>The Bahama Breeze could be a viable last minute fall back
>opportunity, but does have some down sides mainly getting there
>for someone without a car, mainstream exposure to beginners, and
>the usual franchise sameness.

I think our biggest risk of using the Bahama Breeze for both
of the largest gatherings is that if anything, ANYTHING
would spoil the opener, our closer is at risk of a diminished
turnout or being an outright failure.

>As for parking, we rode the bus to downtown and the Fire Fly
>last year. The Downtown Cocktail Lounge is on Las Vegas Blvd.
>and that would make riding the bus even more convenient.

Transportation issues will always be with us, no matter what
venue we go with. Things like ease of access, parking, bus
service, proximity, etc. are all items which we consider
along with non-transportation items.

>The food last night was really good and it's obvious Annie
>has great taste! (pun intended).

Thanks. {blush} :)

>As for the weather in Mid America, there are big snow banks all
>around the airport and other places!

Welcome to the upper midwest! :) It can be cold, windy, and
snowy. It can also be quite hot in July and August.

Ginger also seemed surprised at the explicit nature of some
of the videos playing in the bar. :) Welcome to Omaha! :)

>What about the place we had the saturday pre-DLV gathering at last
>year (Las Palmas 953 E.Sahara).

You took the words right outa my mouth. :) (/me puts on an old
Meat Loaf album and cranks it)

>If that gourgeous, singer turns the volume way down, we could
>even have some conversation.

Hmmmm ... I don't remember any entertainment with loudness that
interfered with conversation. Maybe I had left by that time.

>I doubt that Artisan would work, it's too small for 100 people.

Capacity is one thing that we'll need to confirm. Although we'll
most likely have around 100 total, our history shows that only
60-70% of them will go for the dining option.

>FYI; Le Caberet at Paris has a DJ 5 nights a week starting at 9pm
>and F&S there is a band and DJ starting at 10pm.

I was there on a Friday night last July, the week when it was so
ungodly hot. I stopped into Paris for a while and there was no
band, deejay only.

Paris:

Delaney writes:

As it appears we might be having some difficulty finding a venue,
one option which we may want to consider is Napoleon's Dueling
Piano Bar, which is part of the Paris complex. Last I was there,
it seemed large enough, and I didn't have any problems in girl
mode. I believe it is large enough, and I do not recall there being
a cover. The drinks are on the high side, but not over the top.
Just a thought if other venues don't pan out. Thanks
