JoAnn's Thoughts:

The "devil is in the details" and for the ORG Group I think that means
filling in all of the afternoon and alternate evening activities needed
for a _full schedule_. I would suggest that we get a short list from
all of you of maybe 10 items by Wednesday this coming week which you
all feel we could be doing. Then Annie would compile the list and get it
out to us so we can work on filling in the ___________ [ schedule blanks].

We have one volunteer for the NSD "transformation planning event". The
silence is deafening. I await some feedback. Or it just need another
year of "breathing space in the schedule" so to speak before we address it.

Time is quickly passing. Keep up the great efforts. Keep us posted on
thoughts, ideas, and items we should be addressing.

Thanks and 'much hugs'. JoAnn

Circling back:

This mailing contains things received up to mid Saturday.
Items received after then are being held for the next
mailing.

We're approaching the 60 day mark!

Although it's more difficult to predict than in previous years,
our sign-up rate indicates a large crowd with possibly record
turnout again. Registrations come in on an average of about one
per day with a mix of newcomers and returnees.

Let's circle back to some of the various activity suggestions
and ideas which have appeared here and in the Discussion Forum
since last year's DLV.

We'll be quoting a few of you. :) (Forgot you said it, huh?) :)

Please let us know, yes or no, if you're still interested in
making any of these happen.

To those who aren't quoted and want to see these happen, feel
free to chime in and volunteer to make them happen or assist
with them.

Katie writes:

+So how about we dress to impress on Freemont Street .... with
+No Fetish. Fetish would spoil a night out in that particular
+setting I think!

Katie, are you still interested in doing a "Dress To Impress"
thing on Fremont Street?

Good Mainstream-Alternative Night function for Wednesday.

(Watch Densie ask if nun-wear is allowed.) :)
. . . . . . . . . .

Sin City Prom:

Nikki writes:

+Just as a possible idea. Most of us went to our proms in the
+wrong gender. How about a fabulous prom night in the right
+gender?

Ginger also had a similar idea but somehow the text did not get
captured in the ongoing file. It's also been mentioned several
times in feedback and a variant almost happened last year.

Nikki? Ginger? Anyone? Prom or formal affair for this year?

(Excellent! Under the circumstances, formal dress is to
be OPTIONAL!) :)
. . . . . . . . . .

Shopping and Photo:

Katie writes:

+I mentioned earlier in the year that I would like to assist
+in hosting a shopping trip in 2011 with photo op's included
+in the mix.

Still interested, Katie?
. . . . . . . . . .

Rise And Shine:

Beverly writes:

+My second suggestion is for those early risers looking for
+a little exercise. Perhaps there could be planned an early
+morning walk/run for those desiring some physical activity.

Beverly? Still interested? Other early risers? Feel like, uh,
running with this one? :)
. . . . . . . . . .

Fashion advise:

Norma writes:

+I think this is a great idea if we can get someone with
+professional rather than merely personal experience.

Norma? Any more thoughts along this line?
. . . . . . . . . .

China Ranch Date Farm:

Nora writes:

+If we want to go somewhere truly unique for this years Diva
+I recommend going to the China Ranch. It is about a 2 hour
+ride from Vegas, on the way to Pahrump

Nora? Any further thoughts on this?
. . . . . . . . . .

Recruiting Party:

Marisa writes:

>Has there ever been an organizers and future organizers
>planning, evaluating, recruiting party near the end of Diva
>week?

Any further thoughts on this one, Marisa?

I might suggest later in the week, perhaps a luncheon or maybe
a pre-happy hour some evening.

Spotlight and Namaste:

Crystal writes:

Hi. I've made my EON choices for Wednesday, April 7.

Happy Hour will be at the Spotlight Lounge @ 957 East Sahara
and Dinner will be at Namaste Indian Cuisine @ 953 East Sahara.

Both are located in the Commercial Center.

Spotlight is a friendly place to meet and close to Namaste
which should provide an ethnic/exotic dining option.

Looking forward to doing this!

Thanks!
. . . . . . . . . .

You're very welcome and we've got you covered.

Sign-up requested for dinner, no sign-up-just-show-up for
the Happy Hour.

Welcome gathering and BB comments:

Marisa writes:

Firefly is'nt involved in the construction and is closed off
to the area of construction, it was remodeled less than 2 years
ago before they went into business at the Plaza. Work is being
done on rooms in a tower and part of the gambling floor is
closed off.

There will be valet parking or attendies to Firefly can get a
refund for the $5 fee charged for parking in the garage or the
lot.

The kitchen is used at least once a week (they're booked up on
saturdays through april) and the bar is completly stocked.

The Paradise location is too small for us, but would be good for
a smaller group event.

They have a $100 room fee and $200 deposit if less than $1000
is spent on food and beverage, same as last year (if I sign the
contract, I'ld like to be helped with that if we don't meet the
minimum, but we should).

They said we could have a 8 item menu, but I think we can
increase that by alot. They have 57 items plus 9 desserts.

Could we take a survey of the most popular items people would be
choosing on the menu (fireflylv.com), to get an idea how many
items we need to ask for?

Unless there is a better option than Firefly for one of the MAX
events. The minus being the smaller menu, the big plus is have
the dome and bathrooms to ourselves.

At BB the Gazebo room with the group menu will work for me if
thats the deal.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks for the updates, Marisa.

I'm in for $50, if needed, for the room charge, and I'll go
for another $50 if we get dinged for not making the minimum,
which I think is highly unlikely. I know that there's another
pledge in some off-line conversation.

If we get 90 people through the door, which is likely an
absolute minimum unless something totally unforeseen occurs,
that's an average of about $11 per. Those only socializing
will come close to this if the have 3 drinks, and those dining
will easily exceed it, particularly if they imbibe as well.

I still think the best way to recover the room charge is to
wait until everyone gets very well, uh, word here, "relaxed"
and then solicit donations. ::)

I think the Dome Room is a huge plus, and having the Firefly
restrooms to ourselves will add to the comfort level of the
newbees.

Macy's Makeover Experience:

Sara writes:

I am pleased to report that this little idea has been met with
an enthusiastic response from one of my contacts over at Macy's
Fashion Show Mall.

We are exchanging further details but at this point it sounds
like we're good to go.

My vision was to have ths spread out over several counters. She
only want's to use a couple (clearly very territorial, she
want's all the fun...and sales!!!).

Timing I am proposing Friday afternoon, perhaps with time slots
at 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. The later slot would give the High Tea
ladies a chance to participate but either slot is good to be
at the evening's activities by 6:00. I also envisioned this
being limited to 6 to 8 of us, subject to sign-up ahead of time
and a $50 minimum purchase at the counter. I will update these
parameters as her and I talk.

Another thing she mentioned is possibly bringing in freelance
artists. Now that's getting hardcore if you ask me. Doing so
could allow for more participants but it might force us to go
pre-pay for the minimum purchase.

Stay tuned for more details.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, Sara. It sounds like you have things rolling for this
activity. We'll adjust the schedule start time to 3:30pm with
a second session at 4:30pm.

I might suggest that you look at the timing carefully and do an
adjustment unless you really believe things will fit. You may
be asking for a time crunch on the 4:30 session if things slip
and it start late, or if you have particpants who are
"fashionably late" which is not uncommon at all during DLV.

Also, is that 8 total for both sessions or 8 for each session?

I have a feeling that this one will go into a waiting list
state very quickly.

As for possible prepayment, since this is on Friday, there
should be fewer issues than if it happened earlier in the
week.

Ski trip:

Cynthia writes:

Hi Diva's

Re: Ski Trip: As of my last correspondence with Kumiko, we had
decided to table the Mt. Charleston ski trip because of the
high number of "ifs" and unknowns: "Will the lodge be open in
April?" "Will there be any snow left by then?" "Will we still
have enough interested skiiers?" We decided to wait until April
and see if it's feasable by then, and if so to make a private
party out of it and keep it off the schedule.

We had about nine interested skiiers respond, so if anyone's
still interested by April, and if all the "if's" are still in
place, we can take it from there. Call the lodge when you get
to town and let us know at the Opener.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks for the update, Cynthia.

Yes, there are certainly many "IFs" here.

Yes, if you want, you can certainly do it off schedule, but I
would suggest that you consider putting it on the schedule
with notes that it's subject to change/cancellation at short
notice.

Why?

I don't want to see anybody who wants to do it get left out.

One idea might be to substitute a low-key driving trip to
Mount Charleston if there is no snow or for some other reason
the slopes are unusable. Please consider this. :)

Group rates:

Cynthia writes:

Re: Group Tour Rates: Annie, I'm inclined to agree with with
you, I know how casinos love to pull your chain. If Nora couldn't
do any better with the St. Tropez, I can't see me doing any
better with IP. And I know a lot of the girls like the option
of staying at their personal favorites too. I'm actually sorry
I even brought it up. Soooo, l'll stop by and ask Robert for
their group rates, package, etc. but if he can't do any better,
I won't even bother to report back on it.
. . . . . . . . . .

I think I may have been misunderstood here. ...

Nora **DID** do better at the old St. Tropez and did get a rate
for us that was, IIRC, about 15% off of the street rate. This
was the one success story among countless promises of "special
group rates" from various promoters.

The worst was back in the early 2000s where one casino host
promised us "the best rate available" but would never quote
actual dollar figures! Excuse me? I'm supposed to book the
room without knowing what the charge is? That was actually
the way it was presented to one of our volunteers. The story
is in the ORG archives if anyone wants to look it up.

Please don't be sorry for bringing this up. We NEED things
like this, even if they don't pan out.

As of this morning we have 15 registrations citing the IP
and 39 saying they did not know where they were staying yet.
My guess is that many of these will end up at the IP. That's
probably a potential volume of 30-some rooms.

Please report back on what your friend says, and thank you
for bringing this up.

Glamour Boutique and Macy's:

Gabi writes:

>I would love to help with Glamour boutique event.

Thanks, Gabi. If you want to be the liaison between DLV and
Glamour Boutique for 2011, the job is yours. Amy has requested
an Open House on Tuesday. You might touch base to see if they
need any help.
. . . . .

>Please connect me with folks organizing Macy's makeover event.

Yes, we'll get an information exchange for that going.

We've placed "Shopping With Gabi" on the schedule prior to
the makeovers in order to hold the timeslot. Please let us
know if it needs to be adjusted.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Other commercial activities:

That reminds me. It's time to solidify the other commercial
activities in order to give each vendor a fair share of
accessing our attendee base. We want to be very sure that each
one has a "clear channel" with no competing commercial activity
in their timeslot.

I don't envision any daytime (noncommercial) activities we
have this year absorbing enough of our attendees that it makes
any daytime timeslot unviable for a commercial activity.

Studio Lites has requested Monday afternoon and we have the
Macy's thing on Friday and Glamour Boutique on Tuesday.

Norma? Are you willing to be the Harmony Nail Spa liaison
again this year? If so, time to select a day/time.

Ginger? Bare Escentuals again this year?

Somebody (??? {mumble} forget who ???) talked about doing an
Open House with one of the wig shops. Is there still any
interest as far as doing this?

Glamour Boutique Open House:

Any writes:

This is Amy from the Glamour Boutique, I was wondering if you
could put me on your schedule for an open house on Tuesday,
from 11 til 4. We have specials for the DLV ladies
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, Amy. It's on the schedule.

Gabi (see above) has volunteered to assist.

MCC on Sunday:

Air and Karaoke:

Densie writes (quoted):

Got it. thanks.

>>Karaoke is ON:

>Good news! Get ready to hear some bizarre stuff that you won't
>hear anywhere else in the world.

I shiver with antici ... ... {say it!} PATION!

>Thanks, Cynthia, for hooking this up.

Yes, thanks Cynthia. Good show! :)

>>Beauty Bar is essentiallty a rock 'n roll bar, and has one heck
>>of a sound system; most nights they open both front doors and
>>let the sound drift outside onto the street to draw the crowd.

>Umm...that might backfire with karaoke, but...I would rather
>entertain the whole town than a crowd that is too small.

It's really not a bad Karaoke bar at all. There are several
photos of last year's session here on this page:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2010/acts.html

It's really not that large. Smaller than Goodtimes.

It's actually kind of a dive bar (but a nice dive bar) set up
in a retro beauty shop motif. Drinks were reasonable and the
crowd was friendly.

>How soon do the activity signups begin, and will we be able
>to monitor the numbers as they come in?

Scheduled to begin March 7. Yes, you'll be able to look at
the hourly updates.

Do you REALLY want a sign-up for Karaoke? We usually just do
those things no-sign-up-just-show-up. We can pimp it at the
Welcome Celebration just before. Better yet, we'll give you
the mike and you can pimp it! :)

>rien a foutre?

If people will volunteer as French, German, or Esperanto
translators, we can sure include them too.

Are you volunteering to be our official French translator?

German, anyone?

>Il y aura un DLV pour le monde entier? :)

Yes, DLV is quite worldly and yes, universal. :)

If you recall, at our second year of DLV, back in 1998, we
did have someone whose native language was German.

Beauty Bar:

Mary Beth writes:

Hi everyone:

I've been following the threads and emails, and am quite saddened
and depressed that I am unable to join you.

I am, however, glad to see that the Beauty Bar Karaoke is back on
the schedule, and hope that it will become a DLV tradition.

Best to everyone,

Mary Beth Cooper
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, MB.

Yes, you will truly be missed this year.

We do thank you for steering us in the direction of the Beauty
Bar last year. It was a hit, and I'm sure it will be this
year. I do like the place.

I also hear that they've opened a Beauty Bar on the Near North
Side of Chicago. I may be suggesting this for Pinkfest this
fall.
