JoAnn's Words:

Finally --- thanks to all for the 'goodly number of responses'
to the previous mailing...

Please keep up the responses and volunteering. We still have
not filled in all of the schedule's slots. There still remains
opportunities for more volunteers. Annie and I await to hear
from more of you out there !!

Thanks in advance.... JoAnn

Latest numbers:

As of Wednesday morning we have 130 confirmed individuals signed
up. 24 SOs so far. (Three Annies this year, huh?) :)

The Magic Machine says that 119 of these will show. Although
I know it's not an apples-to-apples comparison with recent years
it appears that we're still slightly above target for sign-up
numbers. It's still far to early for any kind of a semi-accurate
total headcount projection, but if the trend continues we can
expect something around or slightly above our last year's total
of 179.
. . . . .

It appears that we have adequate volunteers for Golf. What we
need most now is confirmation on our larger and mid-size
activities.

We're still holding on some very important answers from those
who coordinated items in the past. >>>>HINT!<<<< :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Golf:

Danielle writes (quoted):

>Ok, I'm taking a deep breath, and I'm throwing my golf ball in
>the ring. And my riding partner Mardi is willing to back me up.

Thanks, Danielle. This will be appreciated.

You also have another volunteer to assist, Beverly. See below.

>I have a lot of questions, not the least of which is how to
>reach... and now I blank on her name... re what she knows/who
>she knows at Desert Rose/procedures/etc/etc. Do you have contact
>info? Anything else that would be handy?

That would be Mindy. We'll send all of you each other's e-mail
under separate cover.

>Also, based on how the schedule is coming together, what morning
>would be best? Tuesday? Wednesday? I've played the last 3 years,
>and I know we've been doing it earlier in the week.

I think either Tuesday or Wednesday would work, but I might
suggest Wednesday. Golf is very portable, but it's of very high
interest for those who are interested in it. In previous years
we've had issues with both the previous evening's things
causing some fall-out on Golf and Golf spoiling the turnout on
the following evening's things. The way things are shaping up
now, Tuesday evening will most likely be less intense than
Monday, and Wednesday will be mostly smaller things.

Of course this also depends on the course schedule.

I'm gonna pencil this in for Wednesday, so please scream
ASAP if you want it moved.

>And, oh by the way, I'm the one who put a group together to dine
>at Mon Ami Gabi last year. I think we ended up being 7 or 8. I
>just made a reservation through Open Table, and we had absolutely
>no issues. I can't remember whether we had separate checks.

You taking notes, Densie? :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Sunday evening:

Susan and Bob? Are you willing and able to do a re-run of your
Irish Pub get-together on Sunday for DLV 2011? It had a great
turnout and high rating for 2010 so I think it would be a
Very Good Thing<tm> if you could do it again.

This would give us a third dining option for Sunday evening,
plus a Mainstream Common Gathering, and would just about tie
up Sunday evening on the schedule. :)
. . . . .

Assuming we get the Irish Pub for a Mainstream Gathering on
Sunday, I think we do need an "alternative" option as well, and
I'm thinking that Crewsn (the old Keys/Zingers) would be a
better option this year than Escape, which we used last year.

Any comments or concerns on this?

Karaoke:

Cynthia writes:

>Local ladies? (Gentlemen?) Does anyone have any insight into
>the Karaoke scene? In particular, who is currently doing it and

>more) of the performers will bring in their own CDs.

Re: Air, Karaoke - I know a DJ/KJ who has all the latest gear,
all digital, and is currently working an all-nighter at a local
tavern on Sat. nights. he's just the hippest, coolest dude in
town and knows his music back to the forties. His speciality is
rockabilly and early blues, but he up on it all. He even has some
college groupies who follow him around in 50's vintage and sing
and dance and cut-up with him. mail: djluckylarue@gmail.com
he say's he need the work.

I used to do quite a bit of karaoke here some years back before
I went Cynthia, and I know that there is a trade paper published
weekly listing every karaoke bar and DJ in town, there's
literally hundreds out there all looking for work and/or
customers, and even several that closely identify with uhmmm us.

I'll pick up a copy at the karaoke shop and send you the emails
of them all if you'll tell me where to mail them to. If I can
be of any assistance or do any follow up for you, please ask.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks Cynthia.

What I think Densie has in mind (see below) is some kind of a
public Karaoke performance where the venue and KJ are both
TG-oblivious at minimum and the KJ is willing to let a public
performer bring her own CDs. Unless a sugar-mommy with deep
pockets steps out of the woodwork, we don't have the funds to
hire a KJ on our own.

Please see Densie's one specific note asking for some local
help on this.

Dinner At Home:

Sarona writes:

Hello my friends from Sarona, happy to see all is progressing
well for DLV again this year.

re: beginner open house (not just for beginners, of course)
(for friends, by friends, make friends is really the intention)

Yes, good to have a carpool or something from Monday's openhouse
to the welcome celebration

Tuesday evening looks a bit thin on the schedule, so maybe we
could have "dinner at home" that night in the timeshare, possible
pajama/lingerie show-and-tell following it. not on Wednesday
unless you really think that is better.

still same plan as previous years to order out some kind of
delivery service unless cynthia, et al want to cook

the timeshare is an absolutely completely non-smoking environment
by the way. hope no one gets surprised by this too late.

I currently believe I am more likely to attend DLV than miss it
and yes, i have successfully registered .... trying to talk my
S.O. (Suzie) into being there too but we do have some personal
issues in Asia.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks Sarona.

It's on the schedule for Tuesday. It would most likely fit on
Wednesday as well.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Mexican follow-up:

Rosada writes:

Thank you Bob. I will check out Chapala's.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, Rosada. :)

I'm assuming that you're (still) thinking of something of
smaller scale for this. Is this correct?

Assuming that Susan/Bob do the Irish Pub thing on Sunday, I
think the best fit for a smaller Mexican thing would be on
Tuesday. Any thoughts on this, Rosada?

Of course if you want a larger thing there are many options
currently open. Please let us know what you have in mind for
the size and scale of this.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
CD Com Social, photos, Macy's:

Sara writes (quoted):

>1. Re: CD'ers.com social. I've taken a roll-call on the main

>the CD'ers.com site who want to meet in person.

It would probably work at Firefly.

There are several other venues that would work. PT's on Sahara
comes to mind immediately.

Personally, I think it's best if we don't OD on any venue,
but it's still too early to tell which venues will be used
for quite a few things.
. . . . .

>what they wish (print, post online, etc).

We've had proposals such as this off and on over the years,
but it's never happened so far. There will probably be no
objection if your friend wants to do this. It does need to
be understood that any money which changes hands needs to go
directly between the participant and the photographer and
any issues that arise need to be resolved between the two
parties, meaning the DLV organizers aren't responsible and
are not stuck in the middle.

>I see something like this working at a place like Bahama
>Breeze if the group is likely to pick that for the final
>event. Otherwise, it'd have to depend on the layout of
>wherever is chosen.

Bahama Breeze is the tentative venue for the final bash
but it's not 100% solid. There's a chance that BB will not
be available or maybe even that Alanna (and/or Beverly)
have some other venues they want to use.

The one iffy item about doing this at Bahama Breeze is that
we may not know until just prior to the activity, meaning
days or even hours, which room we'll be in. If we're in
the "Gazebo Room", where we were in 2010 and 2009, I'm sure
there will be room for this. (I'm assuming this means such
things as backdrops and lights.) If we end up in the smaller
room to the right of the entrance, there most likely will
not be room. We've had almost 100 people in the smaller room,
but it was getting very cozy.

In any case you should work with Alanna and Beverly to be
sure that the management of BB will have no objection.

I'm sure there are other places where something like this
would work as well.
. . . . .

>3. Re: the Macy's experience, I'll start working on that

Thanks. Please give us day/time and confirm the exact location
when you can.

Golf and dining:

Beverly writes (quoted):

>I will be attending my second DLV and am eager to assist with
>the event.

>I would like to help with the golf outing, but being that this
>is only my second DLV, I don't think I should take on the

>to plan something like that from afar. Perhaps a more seasoned
>veteran could be responsible for lining up the venue and I can
>jump in and assist the day of (or day prior) the golf outing.

Thanks Beverly. We'll get a special mailing out which will
exchange the addresses of all of the Golf volunteers so that
all of you can get together and work things out.
. . . . .

>Likewise, I have mentioned to Rosada that I would be willing
>to assist her with the Mexican dinner event in the same way.

>If you need assistance with the farewell party perhaps that's
>another place I could help out.

Alanna has volunteered to take the lead on the Farewell thing,
so if you can assume the role of the on-site person, that will
make that activity about solid. Thanks.
. . . . .

>I have no doubt that I could handle any of these mentioned
>events, I just am unfamiliar with the inner workings of DLV
>to take lead on any. Let me get another year under my belt
>and assist this year in a few places and next year I will be
>ready to jump in with both high heeled feet.

I think that assisting with two nontrivial activities is more
than a fair load for any volunteer, new or veteran. Thanks for
taking these on.

Studio Lites:

Got it down for 12:15 on Monday, 2-3 hours duration. Thanks. :)

Limo Tour:

Vivian Chen writes:

I'll help out again this year; didn't help all that much last year.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, Vivian. Got you on the list. :) And yes, I remember you
did help out quite a bit last year. You went with me and JoAnn
to pay the toll and inspect some of the stops and I know you
helped out with the pre-staging at the load-in area.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
High Tea:

Marilyn writes:

Yes, I'll do the High Tea again, though I still don't know how
many days I can be at DLV this year due to my work schedule. If
I can only make it for the later part of the week, I'll need
someone to help in collecting the pre-payments.

Also I would prefer to have it on Friday afternoon at 2pm due
to the 72-hour notice required by the Four Seasons and the time
they have the teas.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, Marilyn. Got it for 2:00pm on Friday. Please give us an
update on price and payment deadlines and such when you get it.

Ladies? (Gentlemen?) We need somebody who will be attending for
the earlier part of the week to assist with collection on this.
This is a fairly easy one, and although it involves some
responsibility for money, there's no cold-calling vendors or
anything like that.

Volunteers?

Dining and Karaoke:

Densie writes (quoted):

>I don't think we'll even need to set a cap, because the price

Got it down at 20.

IIRC, Mon Ami Gabi is not cheap, but it's not outrageous either.

I know last year we did manage to scare away a crowd from one of
the Sunday dining venues by honestly stating the estimated cost
per person on the schedule, so we'll skip doing that this year.
. . . . .

>>>OK, so who is hosting the karaoke?

>>I thought you were. :) :)

>I will co-host the karaoke, if I can get someone who lives in

You're in luck. See above. Cynthia has volunteered to do just
such legwork.

>>more) of the performers will bring in their own CDs.

I haven't seen or heard anything about Eric for several years
now. If he were still active, I think we would have run into
him off and on over the recent years.

>If someone could just drop into one of our regular haunts on
>karaoke night and get a contact phone or email for the host, I

The venue my mind keeps circling back to is Beauty Bar on
Fremont St. downtown.

We did this after the Welcome Celebration on Monday last year
and got over 30 of our people in there, IIRC. I think this
would work, whether or not we do the Welcome Celebration at
the Firefly downtown again this year.

Cynthia, if you could please check to see if they still do
Karaoke on Monday, and if the KJ is receptive to a performer
bringing in non-infected CDs, that would be appreciated.

There's only one person who really knows how much Galiano [sic]
goes for, but it does not look like she will be with us this
time.

Assistance for Opener:

Katie writes:

Also I can assist on any event I sign up for. Just waiting for
the final schedule and I will write again and commit.

Thanks Katie.

Yes, we'll most definitely need hostesses and greeters, in
particular at the Welcome Celebration and at other things.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Various items:

Laura Tom writes (quoted):

>Just saw the preliminary list of events. Just wondering if
>Night of the Soiled Doves will make a comeback this year.

It's in the works. Too early for anything definite. I know
there was communication on the topic this week.
. . . . .

>Also wanted to volunteer to help with the Limo Tour.

Thanks, Laura, got you down. :)
. . . . .

>If the Trevi dinner is before the Limo Tour I can help, even
>if its not before the limo tour. If you can use me!

Michelle will not be with us, so Ginger has first refusal on
Trevi. I'm sure Ginger can use your help if she takes it, and
if she does not, we can sure use you as First Chair for Trevi. :)
. . . . .

>I also thought about volunteering to host the Erotica Museum but
>I am a first time volunteer and lack experience on how to do it.

The Erotic Heritage Museum has been suggested countless times
for a potential DLV activity, but as of this time it's never
happened.

If you would like to take this on, I'm sure it would be both
popular and appreciated.

For a minimalist approach, all that you would need to do would
be to confirm the hours of operation, pick a timeslot on the
DLV schedule, and agree to be there to welcome the others.
This would require no cold calling or other hoop-jumping.

Of course if you want to do such things as checking for group
rates and such, you could do it. It's all up to you.

Please consider doing this, as I'm sure it would be a hit! :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Trevi et al:

Michelle (NZ) writes:

Looks like there is no chance to get to DLV this year. Apart
from the money issues, the timing is really bad, right at a
time when it's hard to be away from here.

So...

- I can't volunteer to take anything on including:
    - Trevi
    - an EON venue
    - Golf

I would have been happy to volunteer for all of them but as
I know I'm not going to be there it seems pointless.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks for the update, Michelle. You will be missed! :(

Ginger, you have the First Refusal Rights on Trevi. Feel
like giving this a go?
