This is being sent out early due to our need to keep things
moving along. We'll be sending out ORG mailings as needed
between now and DLV.

JoAnn Sez:

I thank all of you have volunteered to head-up or assist on an
activity for this year. And the 'open activities' I hope last
year's volunteer can do it again.

We need to finalize our activities...

As Yogi Bera said, and we are there: "When you come to the fork
in the road, take it!"

We are at the fork in the road and need for you to "step up"
and commit at "our Diva 'fork in the road' ".

Not only do we need those who will agree to head-up an activity,
but also we need to hear _from those who can assist. So please,
we ask that you help us make the Diva Week what it can be.

The rewards of helping will make your own vacation week at Diva both
fun and rewarding.

Because we have a short planning cycle I am asking you to "step up"
sooner than in past years.

As Annie states: "The Clock is ticking" and I add that it
tolls for you!!!

With hugs, and a thanks. JoAnn

Clock is ticking:

Due to our schedule this year, there is a greater sense of
urgency in making at least preliminary plans for any of the
various activities of mid-size or larger, those whose place
on the schedule will affect others and the overall DLV event
as a whole.

We need to have "YES/NO" from quite a few regarding ability
and willingness to coordinate the same or a similar activity
for DLV 2011.

We're asking all whose names are called in this item to please
respond within this list cycle, stating YES, NO, or MAYBE with
conditions as to whether things are "GO" for 2011.
. . . . .

1. Diva Las Vegas Invitational Golf

This is probably the most urgent as of this time, since plans
typically need to be made well in advance and also since some
plan their DLV arrival and/or departure times around this.

Golfers? Somebody needs to step forward and take this one!
. . . . .

2. Opening dinner and mixer

Marisa? Are you "GO" for Firefly or a similar thing this year?
. . . . .

3. Pity Party and/or Jam Session

Susan? Bob? Thoughts about these for this year? Are you "GO"
for one or both of these again?
. . . . .

4. Trevi Dinner

Ginger? Michelle?

Are either or both of you "GO" for Trevi or for something
similar this year?
. . . . .

5. High Tea

Marilyn? Are you "GO" on this for DLV 2011?

This one is always of high interest to some and does affect the
timeslots of various other daytime activities. If it's going
to happen for 2011, we need to get some preliminary plans made
and a timeslot reserved.
. . . . .

These items appear to be the most critical at this stage of
the planning, since all of them are either of high interest
or are of a scale that they affect other activities.

Responses from all whose "names were called" will be appreciated. :)

Limo Tour:

We're in need of a couple of volunteers for the 2011 Limo
Team. This qualifies for voting status. Duties include such
things as directing traffic, answering questions, assisting
with ticket sales, assisting with purchasing, assisting with
load-in, herding cats, etc.

Of course, one other "duty" is the planning of the tour itself,
the stops, etc. :)

Mary Beth, Marcia, Vivian and Vanessa have "first refusal"
rights on this, but new volunteers are most welcome.

To volunteer, just reply to this mailing.

We have our own little mailing list for coordinating the Limo
Tour. Those who volunteer will be added and can then supply
input.

CD Com Social:

Katie writes:

think your idea of a "CD Com Social" would be a very good
means of getting your group more involved with the others who
attend and encourage interaction.

Mexican suggestions:

Bob writes:

To Rosada: Macayo's was not friendly to Susan and I when we
went there 2 weeks ago, in fact we waited for 29 minutes and
didn't get seated in a 3/4 empty restaurant.

Las Palmas in Commercial center is a gang hangout after 8:00pm.

Try any of the Chappalas restaurants. I have been there with
tg's and never had a problem. Prices are reasonable and servings
are big.

Ending gathering:

Alanna writes:

I am willing to do the pre event leg work on the closing event
again this year.

As last year I will need someone there at the event as I usually
avoid the larger events. This worked well last year. I am also
willing to be a strong second for anyone who takes on a big job.
I'm here to serve the greater good of the event in any way needed.
. . . . .

Thanks Alanna!

Susan, are you willing to take Second Chair on this one?

(Hmmmm ... I swear I saw you (Alanna) at BB last year.) :)

Air, Karaoke:

Densie writes (quoted):

>>one idea might be to incorporate Karaoke into the Pity Party.

>Hmm.... Not Sure that I would want to skip the show and limo
>tour to do the karaoke thing, though. IIRC, the pity party is
>for people who can't afford the show, right?

Yes and no.

Things have changed over the last few years and several of the
activities which were once tied to one another are not nearly
as closely tied as before.

Our former traditional Show/Limo thing has been split up, and
over the past couple of years we've had a mid-size dinner as
the lead-in to the Limo Tour.

The Pity Party, which was originally a low-cost alternative
to the Show/Limo track has now grown to where it stands as
an "anchor" activity quite well. It was not up against the
Limo Tour last year.

All options are still open for this year. It really depends
on what activities are planned for when.
. . . . .

Air Tours:

>>Also please be thinking of the logistics such as where and
>>when to meet, etc.

>Logistics R Us. It will either be Henderson or NLV. There have
>been so many changes going on lately that I'm going to need to
>go up there and scope out the situation in advance. It would
>help to know how many people want to do air tours (and can get
>up early enough to do it).

What I would suggest if you want to have a preliminary count
of who wants to do Air Tours is to write up a brief note in
the Discussion Forum, explain what's going to happen on the
Air Tours, and call for a "show of hands" as to how many will
be interested.

Then take the number who respond, multiply it by a fairly
liberal "fall-out factor" and you'll be in the ballpark. Of
course you'll get a more accurate headcount once activity
sign-up starts.
. . . . .

>>Just let us know when, and confirm that it's Mon Ami Gabi or
>>some other place.

>Mon Ami Gabi for a Sunday night option would be good. As soon
>as we figure out how many people we're going to have, I will make
>the reservation.

Got you down for Sunday, with HH before. Thanks.

As for how many, you set the limit. Let us know how many you
want at maximum and we'll set the cut-off.
. . . . .

>>RHPS:
>>(Now to figure out how to shoehorn it into the schedule at that
>>time.)

>Make it an informal thing for people who show up early? We did
>that with SOM one year and it worked out well.

That works.

It's easy to do a midnight thing by scheduling for 0001 in the
morning but the brain-dead software which drives the schedule
process won't let you go back before midnight. :) :) :)
. . . . .

>>Since Mindy will most likely not be with us, we probably will
>>not have a DLV-owned Karaoke machine to play with.

>OK, so who is hosting the karaoke?

I thought you were. :) :)

>I already have Rocky, le diner français, and Air Tours.

You can now challenge Ginger and Marisa for who coordinates
greatest number of DLV activities. :)

>For a private karaoke event, the biggest problem would be a
>selection of songs.

>Would everyone bring in their own disks?

Is the Pope Jewish?

>I think it would be better to go with a public venue.

Agreed! :)

>Do we have someone in Vegas who can get contact info from
>a KJ?

Do we?

Local ladies? (Gentlemen?) Does anyone have any insight into
the Karaoke scene? In particular, who is currently doing it and
who might be receptive to a DLV Karaoke Night where one (or
more) of the performers will bring in their own CDs.

I know a few years back we had a KJ (Eric?) who made the rounds
of a few GLBT bars (Goodtimes, Flex, Cobalt) and had a regular
following, but I haven't heard of him for quite a while. I
may actually have his business card somewhere, but finding it
might be a challenge. :)

I tried googling, but searches always seemed to bring up things
like lists of bars which were doing Karaoke in 2004 and such. :(

>I just want to talk to the host in advance and make sure that
>they will play my CDs. Some of them worry about viruses, or
>copyright issues.

I would think that if you assure the KJ that you're indeed
computer-savvy and know what not to do WRT malware and such,
there should be little concern. I know that Tina used to carry
a case full of Karaoke CDs to various venues at DLVs in the
past.

Hmmmm ... Copyright? (License?) I always thought it was the
responsibility of the promoter or venue manager (as opposed
to the deejay or KJ) to futz with ASCAP/BMI and the like.
. . . . .

>>Probably some fun and games that somehow involve both Galiano
>>[sic] and Lidocaine.

>I don't think I can afford that!

Hey, you should know that both Galiano [sic] and Lidocaine
are cheap! :)
