Org List:
This is the DLV 2011 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
One housekeeping note:
If you respond to one of the items in an ORG mailing, either
to the list or to the PM, it's assumed that your response is
"part of the conversation" and is to be forwarded to ORG or
quoted unless you say otherwise.
If you don't want your response to go out to the ORG list,
please note "not for publication" or something like that very
clearly.

Final hotel scoreboard:
Here's our list of nominated and seconded hotels, in alphabetical
order. The floor is now closed. Time to vote. Thanks to all who
provided nominations/seconds and discussion.
Harrah's: Nominated, seconded.
Imperial Palace: Nominated, seconded.
MGM Grand: Nominated, seconded.
Paris: Nominated, seconded.
Rio: Nominated, seconded.
Sahara: Nominated, seconded.
That's six! (6 - count 'em - 6)
. . . . . . . . . .
Those of voting status can expect a ballot mailing within the
next 24 hours. If you're of voting status and do not receive
this by Thursday evening at the latest, please let us know.
Again, an important reminder. This vote will be a YES/NO on
each of the hotels, and not a "choose one of several" type
of vote.

Beginner Open House:
Sarona writes:
Hello from Sarona.
As you can see, I have been able to receive the most recent email.
I have gone ahead and booked my 2 bedroom timeshare for the
nights of April 4-6, checking out on April 7.
If I am not able to attend, I can assign the room to another
person who wants to host ... I am pretty sure that would be
Cynthia Phillips. In fact, I will see if I can get in touch
with her by email and maybe make her the primary contact person
for this event.
Anyway, I will probably be able to attend DLV in 2011, but still
not absolutely sure because I will be taking an anniversary
(March 15) vaction with my beloved SuzieMo and am not sure when
we will be leaving Europe ... at least we are tentatively planning
a trip to Europe, but that is so far in the future ....
Just letting you know that the room has been booked, so the
event will happen even if I am not the one who can be running it.
There are 2 bedrooms and it would be lovely to have someone stay
there, yet it was not expensive for only 3 nights and fine with
me if no one sleeps over. Probably Genevieve and Cynthia will
enjoy it if I am not able to stay there myself - best for a local
since only 3 nights.
Check in begins at 3 on Monday, and I will also want to co-
ordinate around other events on the DLV schedule. I won't have
a room number until either I or Cynthia or Genevieve check in
on that day.
bye for now from Sarona, currently in Tokyo Japan
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks Sarona.
When we start the schedule, we'll enter Monday at 3:00pm for
the first session. Please send in any additional sessions
you want to have. We'll mark you as primary, Cynthia as
Co-Coordinator.

Preliminary Re-registration testing:
As everyone knows, we're on an escalated schedule this year
and things will be happening sooner, calendar-wise, than they
have in previous years.
We want to roll out returnee re-registration beginning on Monday
the 27th.
We want to do a shakedown run of the re-registration process
just as soon as we can, and the main thing holding this is up
is the names of our suggested hotels.
Within a few days we'll be sending out a preliminary batch of
re-registration e-mails to the members of the ORG group. This
will be a "live test" and everyone here is encouraged to
re-register "for real" to help test and shake down the
registration system.
Please be watching for this in your inbox. :) It will arrive
as soon as we can be reasonably sure of our hotels, which may
happen before the 48 hour "timer" has officially expired.
If you don't receive this, please don't panic. No, you're not
being snubbed! There are several reasons it may happen, the
most probable is that the e-mail address you use here on the
ORG list does not match the one you have on your last DLV
registration. If that's the case, or if you just prefer doing
things the hard way, you can re-register manually here:
http://www.geekbabe.com/cgi-bin/dlv/dlvreg1.cgi
We're asking all to please be on the lookout for and report
any of the following:
1. Spelling errors, typos, etc.
2. Factual errors. Dates wrong, wrong hotels, bad verbiage.
3. Non-response, error messages, blank screens, etc.
4. Failure to receive a confirming e-mail.
5. Anything that does not work as expected.
Thanks in advance, gang! :)

Where we come from:
Over the next few weeks we'll be sharing with you some of the
information we gather and examine from our on-line systems.
Some of the numbers are significant in showing the level of
interest in our event and in estimating the very earliest
attendance projections.
First of all, our mailing list will most certainly pass the
1000 mark prior to DLV. As of this morning we have 981 on the
list, out of which 5 or so are test addresses for QA and such.
List joins have been coming in spurts (watch Densie make a
smart@$$ remark) and seem to average about one every couple
of days or so. This is expected to increase significantly just
after the holidays.
As we approach our busy season, we always start taking a
closer look at our web traffic, looking at such things as
the number of hits we're getting, trends upward or downward
from previous years, and where our web traffic appears to be
coming from.
As many of you know, we have a very good footprint on the web,
both in terms of other sites which link to us and in regards
to search engine rankings.
We're running between 400 and 600 or so average "hits" per
day, a "hit" being defined as a unique html "get", not counting
images and such. This is up slightly from last year at this
time and is expected to increase after the first of the year.
For your information, here's the list of other sites which have
been providing referrals to us over the past few weeks or so:

This is where our people are coming from. Some of these have
been linking to us for 10 years or more, and others have just
recently added us to their links list.
Next week we'll examine some of the search terms that people
are using when they perform web searches and end up on our
site.

Community Service thoughts:
Chantel writes:
First of all, I want to clear up any misconceptions. The
community service proposal, from my perspective, was just
a suggestion to the group. No more and no less. It was not
a socio political statement or invite from the IRS, it was
merely a suggestion!
No one is asking DLV to change their mission statement or
add another event. Any person attending DLV who does not want
or feel a need to participate in an event or activities, it's
their option. I agree There should be no question that we have
been significant in the TG community. By the same token, the TG
community is diverse and no one person or organization speaks
for that community. If the situation has change; anyone can email
me and we can discuss it further.
