To All Who Make Diva---
We will soon be coming to the next Phase in our Diva Event
Planning in a couple of weeks -- programming. It is what
really makes us the "uniqueness we are".
When we have established the Diva Week dates, then later in
October I will be asking all those who said they would volunteer
(and those who are still thinking about it) too consider some
other events which need volunteer help.
I am always struck by the wonderful, open, and giving of our
volunteers. This year I will be looking to spread out
responsibilities so no one person has to head more than one
event and assist on another.
Autumn is here, Thanksgiving is coming [my favorite Holiday].

We have only one more ORG list cycle until we vote on the 2011
DLV dates.
If anyone has any issues with any of the proposed dates, in
particular objections or conflicts, please let it be known
prior to the vote, and not after the outcome is known.

been transpiring.
We're currently in the process of selecting the dates for the
next event, and we can't do any scheduling or any hard-core
activity planning until those are set.
Please be thinking of the areas in which you would like to
help out.

Pity party and volunteer workload:
We need to move the discussion on the planning of the Pity
Party from the Discussion Forum over here to ORG. Although
we do permit, and even encourage, a certain degree of planning-
type chit-chat in the Discussion Forum, when it comes to the
nuts and bolts phase of making plans, this is the proper forum
for said planning.
Bob sent in the following concerns on the thread over in
the Discussion Forum. Let's please continue this conversation
here.

1. I think you're getting ahead of yourself. You can't prepare
for the Pity Party without knowing the dates for DLV 2011.
2. I wasn't the only one involved with the PP in 2010. Susan
did most of the prep.
3. There was a year when the Jam Session (which Susan & I do)
was merged with the PP.
4. It sounds like you have 2 good volunteers to help you put
it together and I haven't decided what I want to do(see #1.)
On a lighter note it would probably be a lot of fun working
with you, Tina & Rosada. I am seriously considering it, but
probably won't make a decision until the dates are announced.

In response to your notes and to some off-line conversation,
let's review a few of our organizational precedents and some
historical items.
For last year's Pity Party, we show Mindy as the primary
coordinator of record, with Susan and Bob assisting. These
are the ones who have first dibs on doing the Pity Party
again for DLV 2011.
We have had a number of other volunters for this, but if any
assistants are to be named, it will be Mindy, Susan, and Bob
who make this call.
Moving forward ...
One thing all of us need to keep in mind, and this is one item
we will be paying close attention to this year, is that we
want to see a more equitable sharing of the workload than we
had in 2010.
For DLV 2010 we had two individuals who coordinated eight
activities and a number of volunteers who were involved with
four or more activities.
We had a problem when we called for some people to coordinate
some badly-needed things to round out the schedule. It was not
those who were doing little or nothing who answered the call,
but those who were already doing multiple activities! :(
Now, something like the Pity Party can be high maintenance,
requiring some real work to pull it off, and it may indeed
take multiple assistants to do it right, but we're going to
be asking all to help us "right size" the number of volunteers
working on any one activity, in order to share the total load
more fairly.
One item we will be looking at very assertively this coming
year is the naming of assistants for the all but trivial
"just name a place and show up" type of activities when we
have others carrying a disproportionate share of the load,
or help with other items is badly needed.
Anyway, as Bob said, we can't begin any definite plans for
the Pity Party or any other activities until we know our
dates and can start the schedule. However, do feel free to
make your thoughts known about this and any other potential
DLV activities.
