This is the DLV 2010 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

Ready to go:

Thanks to all for helping to get the activity sign-up process
launched on time! We have a record number of optional things
this year (38 seems to be final count), and with our anticipated
turnout, I'm sure that all activities will have good attendance.

I think I have all corrections and updates in, but please check
them and let me know ASAP if anything is missing or incorrect.
I'm including the major update items here, a number of minor
items and corrections have been done and do not appear here.

I would also like to thank all for the greater attention to
detail this year. I think this will help answer questions,
avoid misunderstandings, and improve turnout and participation.

Last call for review of the activity sign-up screen:

http://www.geekbabe.com/cgi-bin/dlv/dlv2010hc.cgi?1257166229-51756

There have been a several changes and additions since the
last mailing. If you have any concerns, please check this.
The deadline for additional changes to the activity sign-up
screen will be approximately 2000 CDT today.

If you try the link above and find that our test user has
been cancelled, it's because the sign-up has been "put to
bed" and the sign-up system cleared and restarted.
. . . . .

Due to all of the schedule changes, please take a look, at
your convenience, at the detailed schedule.

The (hopefully) current copy is on line here:

http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/schedule3.txt

>From some quick feedback, it appears that some of you got a
stale copy shortly after the last mailing.

If there's ever any question, this link below will always
do a regenerate on the schedule and display the results:

http://www.geekbabe.com/cgi-bin/dlv/dosched2.cgi

Don't be surprised if that URL takes some time to display.
The process which generates the output on the fly is quite
intense, computationally speaking.

Thanks, Susan. :) Let's consider this one solid.

Yes, I agree that 200 would probably bury the place! :)

Ok, sounds like a plan. I'm sure you will be getting a great
turnout for this.

Thanks. I will get this adjusted on the schedule.

Please let me know if this is to be done.

When we get things going I'll give you (and other primary
coordinators) the link to the almost-real-time sign-up
data.

We'll certainly have a "meeting of the crowds", since the Bar
Crawl will be hitting Goodtimes right about 8:00pm. :)

There is a space on the sign-up list to name an instrument.

Gotcha, please check the detailed schedule (no hurry on
this) and be sure the wording is what you want.

This is really what we've been getting over the years. They
are more than willing to seat us, in a large group, without
a signed contract, as long as no other group with $$$ up
front and a signed contract calls "first dibs" on the Gazebo
Room.

That's what happened in 2008 when we were squished in to the
room in the front to the right of the entrance.

>Where would that leave us?

Uh, probably in the room to the right of the entrance. :)

Thanks for the update, Mindy. I have it on the sign-up screen.
I'm sure the golf folks will be happy -- too happy. :)

Sushi Roku:

Ok, I have it on the sign-up schedule.

No disaster at any time that I know of.

What I almost always do when I host(ess) a meal for DLV
is to break the group up into smaller groups of 6 at max.

Why 6?

It's often the largest size of table that restaurants will
have already set up waiting for diners to arrive.

It's also almost always below the threshold at which such
things as mandatory gratuities and mandatory one check per
table will kick in.

Another advantage is that it breaks up the group visually
and makes the group and the group less obvious. IMAO,
nothing is more obvious than a big honking table right
out there with umpteen diners! When seated at such a
thing, each diner really has 5 others at max with whom
he/she can conveniently converse.

The wait staff will appreciate it as well, as they do not
have to drop everything in the middle of a busy meal hour
to re-arrange tables to make one long one.

Anyway ...

>Minor updates for activity details:

>Meet: Sushi Roku entrance, Forum Shops, Terrace Level

Done.

>Taxi instructions: "Forum Shops at Ceasars"

Since it looks like everything we have at Caesars this year
will be in the Forum Shops, I've updated this on the venue
information. The taxi instructions are an attribute of the
venue, and not the activity. (Geekoids may notice that the
schedule is a conditional join of the venue and the activity
relations.) :)

>>What: Walk off your lunch

>Meet: Forum Shops at Caesers, Street Level at fountain
>pool just inside the strip entrance

I'm going to have to abbreviate this somewhat, field size
limit.

>Taxi instructions: "Forum Shops at Ceasars"

This will spill over from the change above.

>Notes: Window shopping tour of the Forum Shops, whose map
>and directory can be found at:

>> What: Late Evening Dancing

Ditto.

>Please remove clubby dress from Level 107 and add "respectable",

Uh, LOL, I don't remember writing that. :) It looks like I copied
that entry from some other club activity. :) :)

>Thank you for adding no slut on the WC dress requirement.

I've standardized everything at the Firefly to "Casual to
dressy, no slutty/fetish please."

Thanks for the updates, Marisa.

Beauty Bar:

>It's approximately 4/10th of a mile (about a 7 to 10 minute
>walk, depending on how high your heels are) from one venue
>to the other.

I will include a summary of this in the notes on the final
schedule.

>For those who are driving, there's a pay to park garage about

Ditto.

>I spoke to the club manager today and he confirms there is
>karaoke every Monday, there is no cover, but it does draw
>quite a crowd so you may want to get there right at 10 and
>get your slip filled out if you want to sing.

And, a note to please arrive by 10:00pm if they want to sing.

As before, I think an on-site announcement at the WC just
prior to the activity will improve the turnout.

Thanks for the updates, MB.

High Tea details:

Done.

One more suggestion I might make. It might help if you give
me a list of the activities at which you're 100% SURE that
you and/or Danielle will be there to take HT payment.

This is not urgent for sign-up roll-out, but would be nice
to include in it, and on the final schedule.

Fashion Show Lunch:

Done.

Thanks, Edy. :)
