Welcome and Formal:
The big news, of course, is the Hard Rock Welcome Celebration!
See below. The numbers speak for themselves! :)
. . . . .
Now, as to the Formal ... Can We Tawk?
Let's see -- how to put this ...
I'm just not getting the vibes that this is something (if
we adopt it as a planned maximum-turnout final bash) that
would capture the number of people we want to have at such
an ending bash. :(
Please read the comments below.
What concerns me is that out of the 11 responses, 5 of
these either said that they would not attend, or gave me
the distinct impression that they probably would not
attend. (I didn't count a couple responses where the
intent to attend or not was not clear, nor did I count
the one who said "$30 for the ending DINNER" was fine.) :)
In trying to read the enthusiasm level from the various
responses, I don't see anybody really jumping up and
down in support of this. I count only 2 of the 11 as
being highly interested in this activity.
I'm just not hearing the enthusiasm on this one. We also
still have quite a few, those who I know read these
mailings thoroughly, who are still "deafeningly silent"
on this activity. :(
I think we want something that will attract and capture
more of our audience.
Comments?
Am I reading this wrong?
Do we need to look in a different direction for our
maximum-attendance ending activity?
Do we need to put this to a vote?
Comments, gang?

Welcome Celebration vote result:
Now, from the Good News Department! :)
I can tell this one is gonna be a winner! :)
Ladies (gentlemen), we're going to do something we've
never done in the history of DLV! We're going to "call"
the outcome of the vote early.
Why?
Because as of this time the total number of FOR votes
exceeds the majority of those eligible to vote, meaning
that even if all outstanding votes were opposed to the
motion, it would still carry.
Results are:
For: 16
Against: 2
Abstain: 0
No invalid votes were received.
Wow, what can I say!
I expected this one to carry, but not by the margin it did.
This is very close to another "landslide", similar to the
margin we had with the Hotel Hostess proposal.
Congratulations to Suzane on a very well-received proposal!
Again, thanks to Suzane for allowing this to happen.
Suzane, you now have the official "go-ahead", please
proceed, and please keep us informed as things progress.
All, if you wish to assist (or a$$i$t) in this activity,
please let us know and we'll pass that info on to Suzane.
I've already written to Suzane confirming my intent to
offer $100 to the cause. When I get the details on where
to send it and such, I'll pass this on to others who
have similarly pledged.
I really believe that this has a strong probability of
being the best-attended and most-enjoyed activity in
the history of DLV!
We need to support it, we need to attend it, and most of
all, we need to enjoy it! ("So use it, Rosie, that's what
it's there for!") :)
Raw votes appear below.
Thanks again, Suzane! :)

Formal answers:
Here are the responses to the Big Burning Questions.
(all first-person)
. . . . .
Norma writes:
Question 1: $30 sounds good to me. I would not skip this
event because of that.
Question 2: I always drive my own car to DLV, because it
is a great convenience to have it there. For that reason,
location of planned events is not an issue for me.
Norma continues:
>BIG BURNING BOTTOM LINE QUESTION: Is this (proposed final
>evening Pity Party and Formal) something you would attend,
>or is this something that you would likely skip?
This I would attend.
I like dressing up classy.
>SECOND BIG BURNING QUESTION: Is the price point (ca. $30)
>such that you would consider skipping this activity?
$30 is fine by me.
>THIRD BIG BURNING QUESTION: Is the relative distance (few
>miles off the Strip) and seclusion (lack of mainstream-ness)
>of the proposed venus such that you would consider skipping
>this activity?
This is not an isue for me at all.
. . . . .
{name withheld by request} writes:
Please, Amy and I are friendds and I don;t want to give
the wrong impression, please don't use my name. I would
however like to sa a few words.
>QUESTION TO ALL: Is the price point (ca. $30) such that
>you would consider skipping this activity?
It's not just the $30 dollars. It's close to $130 when
you add it up. To go to this I would have to stay over
Friday, and my hotel goes way sky high on Fridays. It
simply doesn't intrest me enough to warrant the extra
expense.
>QUESTION TO ALL: Is the relative distance and seclusion
>of the proposed venus such that you would consider
>skipping this activity?
Not reaally. I just don't find the event to be exciting
enough to stay over. I also want to get a head start
driving back before the weekend.
. . . . .
Kate writes:
Well you asked for opinions.
I would not attend the prom/Formal Do at the Italian
American club.
Driving away from the strip into the east end of Vegas
to go to a club which will really not have anything like
the Vegas atmosphere would be a wasted night for me on
my once/year girly T- trip to the best place to do a T-trip.
I go there for the ambiance and the feeling I get from just
being there and not to attend a support club annual dinner
bash.- I can do that here, which yes, I sometimes do so
Sorry, but I must say No. this would definitely not be
for me.
. . . . .
Marilyn writes:
Neither the price point or the venue are an issue for me.
As far as the food is concerend, I'll probably eat
somewhere beforehand.
. . . . .
Mary Beth writes:
>QUESTION TO ALL: Is the price point (ca. $30) such that
>you would consider skipping this activity?
If the $30 is just to walk through the door, then yes, I
would most likely skip the event. I'd rather spend the $30
on dinner or drinks at a night club.
I think hiring a DJ is going to be a waste of money, as
most of us will not be with an SO and won't have anyone
to dance with anyway. A DJ on a Friday night for 4 hours
is going to run you a minimum of $200, and probably a lot
more.
>QUESTION TO ALL: Is the relative distance and seclusion
>of the proposed venus such that you would consider
>skipping this activity?
The distance and seclusion doesn't really bother me IF
it's a nice place. If the hall is a dump, then I wouldn't
be interested in attending no matter where it is.
. . . . .
JoAnn writes:
I can say "yes" to all of the above. This event appears
to be "heading in a direction" that seems workable and
have success depending on the number of those who remain
in Vegas. Think it is a good Friday event.
As we advance some details will need to be "refined"
Money seldom is the issue. The issue, in my opinion,
is the event's worthiness to the group, i.e. will I
have fun?, Will others be coming? etc.
. . . . .
Kat writes:

30 is a fine price point anything over 50 will keep us
away
Distance is not that bad and having been there it is not
completely out of mainstream.

Nicole writes:
I apologize for being silent until now. I'm not totally sure
if I will make DLV yet but wanted to add my two cents on a
few questions so here it is:
On the formal--I would definitely attend as I love formals
and dancing. As far as the cost, $30 would not be a problem
as long as we get our money's worth. I wish the reviews on
the food were better. Have you looked into any of the major
hotels for a banquet room with hors d'ouvres and a cash
bar? At any rate, I would definitely attend!
Hopefully Nicole will make it this year and not just her
twin brother who crashed the party forthe last two nights
of DLV 2009.
. . . . .
Vivian Chen writes:
I'll probably be attending Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. That
means I won't be able to attend the formal/pity party.
I can help out with the evening events on those days.
. . . . .
Kimberly Kaei writes:
>QUESTION TO ALL: Is the price point (ca. $30) such that you would
>consider skipping this activity?
The price point is a non-issue for me personally, but I
don't think we should expect a huge turnout. I find it
downright odd that the pity party was concieved as a
budget-friendly alternative and is now evolving into
something quite different. So long as that's okay with
the people attending, I don't see a problem.
>QUESTION TO ALL: Is the relative distance and seclusion
>of the proposed venus such that you would consider skipping
>this activity?
Seclusion is the main reason it doesn't appeal to me at
all. It just doesn't sound like a classic DLV event - too
much like an extended closet for my taste, but clearly YMMV.
. . . . .
Alanna writes:
I like the idea of a formal event, but not into the pity
party thing.
Would suggest seperating the two events. Personally, I would
skip the event if it goes off as suggested. I would attend
an upscale event, but the pity party thing would take away
from the elegance that the event would otherwise possess.
Price and location are fine with me.

Vivian Wells writes:
I dont have a problem with the 30 to 35 dollar charge for the

High Tea:

Thanks, Marilyn.
How about this.
We'll accept your offer to host(ess) this, and we have
someone (JoAnn) who knows the ropes to assist you. You
two can collaborate and work things out. I'm also sure
that Jamie (who will not be present this coming year)
can advise as needed.

Now all we need is a solid commitment to coordinate it. :)

RHPS is really a one-of-a-kind experience, and IMAO, the
only way to go is the live theater.
I don't think we want to stand in the way of someone who
wants to do a private screening, but if the real show is
out there, I think that's the obvious choice for it!

I'm going to put this down with a start time of 11:00pm on
both days for now. If you want this adjusted, please let
me know. "No sign-up, just show up."

Thanks, Kimberly.
I'm going to denote Friday lunch as Lunch With Kimberly,
followed by Walk Off Your Lunch, location TBA.
As far as where the lunch will be, that's your call. We
have traditionally had the daily lunch at buffets, but
that's not in stone. I would say, however, that I think
that a buffet, or a place like a food court with
several options, would get a better turnout than at a
regular sit-down restaurant. Please let me know when you
have decided on a venue.
