Date vote results:

Please read this entire mailing prior to responding.
. . . . .

Polls are now closed and the results are in:

Measure 1. The calendar week of the event:

Within the week beginning March 21: 6
Within the week beginning April 18: 11
Abstain: 0

No invalid votes were received on measure 1.
. . .

Measure 2. Length of the event and start/stop days:

Six-day. Begin Sunday, end Friday: 9
Seven-day. Begin Sunday, end Saturday: 5
Abstain: 1
Write-in, Begin Monday, end Saturday: 1
Invalid: 1

One invalid (missing, no vote on measure 2, valid vote
on measure 1) vote was received. No clarification was
requested due to no potential effect on the outcome.

One vote with comments (not allowed on ballots) was
accepted as a write-in due to the fact that explicit
preferred days were mentioned.

Some "bounces" on the initial send were reported. Due to
this, I'm asking all to please give the raw votes a once-
over to be sure your vote is in there. If you don't seem
to find it, let me know.

Last vote was dated 2:56pm PDT on Monday and polls were
closed 2:56pm PDT Wednesday.

Therefore, the tentative DLV 2010 dates will be Sunday,
April 18 thru Friday, April 23.

For those who would prefer a 7-day DLV, we do have the
same option we've placed on the table in years past. If
circumstances warrant, we can add a day, and this can be
done with a simple majority vote. (We can entertain such
a motion in late fall.)

We'll hold the floor open for 48 hours pending any motions
to vacate/cast-aside/reconsider/ash-can/etc. After that,
we'll post the dates as "tentative" on the web site, send
out a general mailing, and announce the start of our usual
one-month Call For Comments regarding the dates.

Now, for those ready to send in such a motion, and for those
ready to fire off yet another admonition to wrap things up
ASAP, please read the next item carefully and completely and
please consider it before hitting that "SEND" button! :)

Thanks to all for participating in the date selection
process.

For those who are new, please don't be discouraged by any
bickering and disagreement. The date selection process has
historically been the most contentious issue we deal with
during our planning year. We usually get along fine after
we're over this hump. :)

Can we tawk:

Please understand that I have a balancing act to do here.

I'm in a double-bind, a no-win situation here. On one
hand I am taking heat from those who wish to see the date
selection process conclude at the absolute very soonest
day, hour, minute and second as is humanly possible. On
the other hand I'm taking heat from some who think I've
been moving things too quickly, in particular setting the
floor "timeout" too short.

I sincerely believe that I'm doing the best I can, given
the circumstances, in balancing everyone's needs and wants
and what's best for the program as a whole. I may have
made some judgement calls that, in the opinion of some,
were bad. However, in those cases I don't think it would
have been possible to make any call that was agreed upon
by all.

Also please understand that when I speak up on something,
in particular against something, I'm attacking the idea
and not the person! There is not a single person on the
volunteer force who I don't think the world of, nor whose
opinions I do not value highly, even though I may disagree
with them.

I'm asking all on both sides of this issue to please back
off a bit. Please cut me a bit of slack on some of these
procedural issues and ease up on the nastygrams, please.

I think the selected set of dates this year is a winner.

It's a clear favorite of the volunteers. I do not believe
that any motion to reconsider the dates, any kind of a
procedural challenge, or any further discussion on the
dates or the methods used to select them could result
in any better selection of the timeframe for DLV 2010.

I'm asking all to please accept the result of the vote
as the final decision of our group, collectively, and
allow us to move on toward planning DLV 2010.

Thanks for your consideration and cooperation.
