This is the DLV 2009 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not

Testing the survey:

I would like to ask the volunteers (that's you) :) to please
help shake down and test the 2009 follow-up survey.

It's on line at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/2009survey.html

Although this is really a test, please consider it "for real"
and answer for real. Unless there's an unexpected error which
causes us to restart the answer database, all of your answers
will count.

Please look for the usual suspects, typos, misspellings,
anachronisms, technical errors, ergonomic issues, etc.

I would like to roll this out on Friday with a special
mailing, in order to catch our attendees when things are
fresh in their minds.

Thanks, gang. :)

Numbers game:

Please look over the following list. If you have a semi-accurate
headcount for any activity noted by ?????, please send it in.

I know several of you gave me counts, and I asked a few how
many they had, but I've forgotten many of them, so if you
could please send in the numbers or a correction. :)

Also, if you think any headcounts are off by any significant
degree, please send in a correction. Thanks.

Thanks for the updates, Sarah. :)

Not really "art", but an outside-the-box twist on the Art
Tour, which kept it fresh. That's what we want to see. :)

I've seen the ATM, but not for some time. It's interesting
no matter what side(s) you stand on WRT nuke stuff.

When I saw it, the tour was self-guided, but they had guides
or docents kind of floating about. I remember an older lady
in a white lab coat who told some interesting trivia.

>Art Tour Lunch - Artisan Hotel: I didn't get a great count,

>The bar here is quite large and could serve as a location for

We've discussed this venue before, but this is the first time
we've used it for anything.

I see a major issue with it being difficult to find. You can
see it, but you can't get there from here! :)

If we could work around the access issue, plus the mandatory
valet parking, I think it has promise for a regular DLV
venue.

>Afternoon Art Tour - Bellagio Fine Arts Museum: The delay in

What I did on the survey is to change it from one to three
entries, Morning Session, Lunch, and Afternoon Session. That
should give you a better idea of how each segment worked.

>Thanks for your work on DLV.

You're very welcome, and thanks to you, JoAnn, Randi, and
Marisa for doing the Art Tour.

>I did see a piece in one of the magazines that indicate Frank
>Marino is working on a new show now that La Cage has closed.

Frank has been "announcing" this ever since he was cann
quit at the Riviera. :)

>He intends to call it Diva Las Vegas. You should file an
>injunction or at least see if we can all get in free if
>it's running next year.

Actually ... (to make a long story long) ... :)

Years ago I had a chat with my attorney (on the clock,
officially "legal advice") regarding the use of the term
"Diva Las Vegas", as it was very evident that others were
using the term as well. Sasha Scarlett was doing an
on-again-off-again drag show at the Freezone which was
titled, you guessed it, Diva Las Vegas. I wanted to know
if we were possibly infringing on anyone's trade/service
mark and if we were legally allowed to use the name.

At that time his search showed no (Federal) trademark or
service mark of that name, and it was clear that the term
was used by quite a few individuals and groups.

He said that it would be difficult for us to register it
as a trademark or service mark since we were an informal
association and had no plans to use it in commerce. He also
said that the prior use was such that it might complicate
any attempts to register it.

He noted that "in case of a legal dispute over the name, it
will be the one with the deepest pockets who will prevail"
and the one at that time (1999) who was obvious would be
Bette Midler, who had used the name in the past.

In another incident, the same attorney remarked (off the
clock, not legal advice) that even though we have not
registered it, both we as a group and I individually,
hold a valid copyright on our "Jellomold" logo, both
the original artwork and the complete Diva Las Vegas
logo. This was a few years back when another group was
riding our coat-tails and used our logo without permission.

We sent them a cease-and-desist note with no luck. My
attorney said that if we "wanted to waste a lot of money"
we could file both legal and civil actions, but the
chance of recovering anything would be very slim. We
worked around the link from their page to ours by
redirecting their referrals to such sites as
www.jbs.org and www.wctu.org :) :) :) :) If you don't
know what those are, try them. Then imagine the shock
of somebody clicking on a link on a sex site and getting
one of those. :)

Once again, please:

I would like to ask everyone here to please eye-ball this list
again and speak up if you recognize anyone who WAS with us at
DLV 2009. The list is quite a bit shorter than it was on Sunday,
but I want to be very sure we don't flag people who actually
attended as no-shows.

TIA!
