This mailing:

Overall, things are looking good as of this morning.

Activity sign-up continues. So far things remain smooth.

Over the past day or so the sign-ups slowed significantly.

There were 66 nag-o-grams sent out this morning, which
shows a higher than expected non-response to the activity
sign-up mailing. Although there are two more cycles before
the first of the non-respondees will be cancelled for
non-response, I'm beginning to wonder if this is a point at
which the state of the economy will start to show an effect.
. . . . .

Two of the volunteers here have reported non-recipt of the
activity sign-up mailing. One found it in the "spam" folder.

Yes, those sign-up mailings do have a URL inside which has a
variable tail to it. These can and sometimes do trigger spam
traps.

I'm also concerned about some of today's reminders getting
rejected for rDNS errors due to the sporadic issues going
on yesterday and today.
. . . . .

Speaking of which ... :(

We've had some data line problems over the past few days,
but hopefully they will be rectified soon. When I passed
by the "hut" this morning, they (the Qwest folks) were still
dorking around changing cards and doing BERT tests but they
admitted they still don't have a clue as to why whenever
the weather changes in the fall or spring, this circuit
goes all to $#!+. Yes, there are some challenges in getting
business-grade data services out here in the exurbs of what
is otherwise rural Nebraska.

Filling in the holes:

Let's visit and revisit some schedule details where we might
want to fill in some blank spots and smooth over some rough
spots.

Everything planned or added from now on needs to be no-sign-up,
just-show-up, for obvious reasons.

Here's where I think we can use some additional activities:

1. Monday, following the Welcome Celebration, no earlier than
10:00pm or so. Do we want a post-Ox activity? Dancing? Karaoke?
Barhopping? It could even be no-host.

2. Tuesday, Eating Out Night. I still think we need one more
option here, but it will have to be no-sign-up. Just pick a
place and agree to be there. Low maintenance.

3. I think it would be a Good Thing<tm> if we would pick a
place to meet and drink and socialize on Thursday evening
after NSD. Keep the group together to an extent and let the
in-towners know where the Doves are going after they get
back from the CR.

This really doesn't need a volunteer. It can be no-host. We
just need to designate a place.

Since many of the Doves will be in outfits a bit far out, this
should be a venue which is tolerant of such.

Venue suggestions, gang?

4. It would (still) be nice if we had one other dining option on
Friday evening. As of this time this will need to be no-sign-up,
just-show-up. It can be minimalistic, just pick a place and be
there.

5. What do we want to do on the last evening after dinner at
the Bahama Breeze? Ideas?

Comments, gang? Suggestions? Volunteers?

Group Photo(s):

Michelle, where exactly do you have in mind for the group photo
after dinner and prior to the Limo Tour on Wednesday?

I would like to announce this as a schedule item, hopefully get
some of those who are not doing dinner and/or the Limo Tour to
stop by and pose with the group.

The larger and nicer group photos always get quite a few hits
on the web, so they are obviously in demand. They are also
mentioned in feedback on a semi-recurring basis.

The limo volunteers have been discussing a photo op by the
famous "Welcome To Fabulous Las Vegas" sign, as they now have
a nice parking area, and I was thinking of trying to get at
least of the non-limo people down there to join the group
for a photo, but I decided against it due to the issues of
getting things synchronized.

Pre-DLV gathering:

Now that the more pressing issues are behind us, we can move
this one to the front burner and resume discussion.

I think we need to "soft-pedal" the Pre-DLV thing this year,
since it is on Mothers Day, and I don't want there to appear
to be ANY pressure in any way, shape, or form to get any of
our people, local or otherwise, to reneg on their family
commitments, should they have them.

However, that does not mean that those who are in town and
are otherwise not doing anything can't get together and enjoy
a drink and a chat!

We've had two venues suggested for this:

1. Alexis Park.

2. The PT's on Sahara, west of 6th.

IMAO, both would work, but I'm leaning toward suggesting PT's
for this since it's more informal, more reasonable in price,
and the plethora of various dining options, both in PT's and
within an easy walk.

Anyone have any strong feelings on either of these two? It
would be nice if we have a consensus, but if we don't we'll
vote.

Trevi and Mindy:

>>If anybody wants any of these to be adjusted, please

>Headcount limit for Trevi should be 60 provisionally.

Gotcha.

At the present rate of sign-up, I don't think this will
overflow. I forsee a good crowd, but not a waiting list.

As of this morning, you have a sign-up of 31 and the
machine says that 24.3 of them will show. Depending on
what the future response rate is, my guess is somewhere
in the 40s for a total dining headcount.

>Very sad to hear that Mindy can't make it this year.

Yes, agreed. I hate to see this happen.

We're also closely watching the status of one other key
player (she can identify herself if she wishes) who may
have some issues making it. With the current state of
the US economy, things like this can unfortunately be
expected. :(

>If I can do anything to help with golf let me know...

We have Mardi and Edy who have volunteered, but if you would
kind of be standing by to assist if needed, it would be most
appreciated.

>which I guess includes returning the crown from last year
>so I can win it again!! :-)

Golf details:

Mardi writes:

>of us that rent clubs and who to talk to.

I'm not Mindy {checking DL to be sure} but the number I have on
file for the Desert Rose Golf Club is 702-431-4653. I don't have
a contact person listed, but I'm sure that if you describe our
group there will be no confusion over which group we are. :)

>How do you put the foursome together, and I don't know Edy.

The activity sign-up screen has an input space for preferred
golf mates. I normally send this to Mindy, but I will now send
this to you, Edy, Michelle, and Mindy to be sure you are well
covered.

You will know Edy on sight, I'm sure. I'll send out an e-mail
with everyone's e-mail addresses so you can keep in touch and
work out any details.

Thanks.

Blue Ox redux:

I'll let the person who sent this in identify herself if she
wants. :)

She who shall not be named writes:

>All the Blue Ox discussion reminds me of an old joke -

>100 T-girls walk into a bar. The bartender says "Funny, we never
>see any T-girls here." The T-girls respond "And at these prices,
>you won't see any more".
. . . . .

A priest, a rabbi, and a minister walk into a bar.

The bartender exclaims "What is this? Some kind of a joke?"

{rimshot!} :)
