Org List:
This is the DLV 2009 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Latest updates:
First of all, I would like to ask all to please look over and
sanity check three items included in this mailing:
1. The working schedule.
2. The activity sign-up information.
3. The list of volunteers.
Please let us know of any items on any of these that do not
look right.
Now ...
Let's talk about activities:
Gang, we still have three holes to fill! These are not going
away!
1. We need another EON option Tuesday night.
2. We need another after-dinner option Tuesday night.
3. We need another dinner option for Friday.
I would really hate for all of these timeslots to become
"Free Time" for 60-some people, but unless we have people
(that's you) step forward and adopt these, it may very well
have to be!
I'm addressing this primarily to those who volunteered but
are not doing anything yet. I'm not asking those who are
already taking on multiple things to take on one more.
. . .
Let's talk about timing:
April 15 (one week from today) is when I had hoped to have the
activity sign-up ready to go out. Unfortunately there are too
many things hanging to make this happen.
I would like to see this happen the week of April 19. I think
this is about the latest we can push this out without having
it turn into a real mess.
Please look over the Laundry List, as there are some missing
items of information needed for activity sign-up. I have a
few queries out to individuals in addition.
. . .
Let's talk about numbers:
As of this morning the roster shows a count of 191. This is a
very "dirty" count, since I have yet to clean up things and it
includes some dupes and some cross-registered SO pairs. This
will happen before we do activity sign-up.
The Magic Formula says 144 will show, but I would adjust this
to 137 or so due to the currently inflated roster. Extrapolating
this out five weeks -- my guess is 150-160 at the current rate
of sign-ups.
Over 100 of these wil be returnees! This has been our strongest
year yet for returnee registrations.
This year I've lost count of the registrations which have
lapsed without being validated. There have been many of them,
as well as a number of them where the validation responses
were in no way what was asked. Only about half of those who
respond improperly will eventually deliver the appropriate
response. This is much poorer than in the past few years.
Additionally, there are a number of names who appear in the
Discussion Forum, Yahoo, etc. who appear to be coming, but
can't be matched to a name on the roster. I have a feeling
we are going to see a number of unregistered cold newbees
showing up on our doorstep this year.

Laundry list:
* Movie Night?
Anyone want to adopt this orphan? Going once.
. . .
* Dick's Last Resort?
Again, up for adoption, going once.
. . .
* Friday night GB activities?
Susan? Kimberly Komplin? Any decisions on how things are going
to be scheduled WRT the Glamour Boutique on Friday?
. . .
* Murder mystery?
Holly, how do you want to handle the sign-up for the people
who will be playing the roles? Do you want them to e-mail
you for this? (We can set up a throw-away e-mail address
if you don't want your real e-mail to appear on the sign
up screen.) Do we want to set up an ad-hoc mailing list
for the Murder Mystery folks?
. . .
* Golf?
Is anyone in touch with Mindy? If so, can you please "ping"
her regarding golf price and payment arrangements? This is
one thing that can hold up activity sign-up. Thanks.
. . .
Ginger? (Kay?) Michelle? (Susan?)
Any decision on timeslot for the SO gathering?
. . .
Aiko, Kumiko?
Do you want to use the LV Outlet Center for NSD carpool staging
again? If not, where will this be?
. . .
Britney, Kimberly Kael?
Photo sessions? Any movement on this?
. . .
Gina, Vanessa? Do you want to have a carpool staging location
for the pistol/rifle shooting? If so, where and when?
. . .
* Saturday after Bahama Breeze?
This is our final evening. Do we scatter to the winds when BB
winds down?
Going once!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Activity sign-up:
As I said, there is no way this is going to be ready to roll
out on the 15th. Just too many hanging items. I would like to
see this go around the first of the week beginning on April
19.
I would like to test activity sign-up next week, beginning
around Monday. If things are looking more or less stable as
of that time I'll do a special batch of sign-up mailings to
the volunteers here, which will help us shake down the
sign-ups and also let the volunteers have first shot at
anything that may have limited capacity.
We'll review capacity limits after we have the other details
for sign-up covered.
Let's review which activites I show as needing a sign-up. If any
are missing, please let me know. If any details are incorrect,
please send in corrections prior to next Wednesday.
I know this is somewhat long and detailed, but please check it
closely for omissions and errors in details.
Anything not on this list will be "no sign-up, just show up"
unless the coordinators state otherwise.
If you don't see your activity on this list and you want a
sign-up, even if it's just for an approximate headcount, please
say so.
If anyone who is coordinating any activity wants to check the
verbiage and/or functionality of the activity sign-up screen
for their activities, please use the following URL which will
bring up the sign-up screen for a bogus test attendee:
http://www.geekbabe.com/cgi-bin/dlv/dlv2009hc.cgi?1226582903-34794
This link is live now, you can try it if you want. Many of the
items are incomplete, missing, and may have errors, but feel
free to try it if you want, or if you're concerned that your
activity's sign-up screen may not be what you want.
Please don't be surprised if you get a whole screen full of
debugging "gobbledegook" when testing the sign-up screens.

Credit where credit is due:
This first part is machine-generated. Second part is manual.
Please look this over. This year I want to be sure we give
credit in the LFM to all to whom credit is due, and that we
pass this forward and be sure everybody who deserves a vote
next year, gets a vote.
If you're the primary coordinator of an activity (first
volunteer listed) please be sure we have all of your
co-coordinators and/or assistants listed. Likewise, if you
see something here which you're working on and don't see
your name listed, please let us know.
Yes, this list will be cleaned up and items consolidated for
the final list in the Large Final Mailing. :)

Schedule project:
Kimberly Kael has given us a sample of the "Pretty Printed"
schedule.
As Kimberly writes:
>I've used what was there but I do worry that the color-on-color
>logo will print poorly in black and white. If you can give me

>tinker endlessly.
Thanks, Kimberly. I'll get an original of the logo, no color,
to you shortly.
Everyone, please take a look at this. Still in a rough state,
but comments will be appreciated.
The full schedule is on line here:
http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/s1.pdf
Yes, it is long. This is intended to be viewed on line, or else
printed out by the attendee.
We will also be handing out a summary schedule in hardcopy, but
this will not contain as much detail as on this final detailed
schedule.
The draft of the one-page summary is on line at:
http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/s2.pdf
Comments would be appreciated.

Artisan, PT, AP, etc.:
Nora writes:

Nora, first a sanity check. When you say Artisan for opening
night I assume you mean for later, after the Blue Ox. Is this
correct? Kimberly Komplin's last note said that the official
Welcome Celebration at Blue Ox is a done deal.
I do agree that the access situation makes Artisan a less
than optimum choice for a Pre-DLV thing, particularly when
we think of newcomers, those who don't know LV, and those
who are shy about taking a taxi or valet parking.
And yes, I'm planning a note on rides and riders for the
next general mailing. (Draft shortly.)

Thanks, Nora.
Actually, I think that PT's might be worth looking at very
seriously for a Pre-DLV thing on Sunday. I've been to PT's,
but not to the one on Sahara. (In Las Vegas, you can't go
three blocks in any direction without finding a PT's!) :)
I'm assuming that Sunday night will be rather slow at that
one. IIRC it's mostly wings and barburgers and stuff like
that. I think they have pizza, at least the one over on
Sunset does (or did). PT's is reasonable in price too.
I seem to recall dinner specials, but I may have been on
drugs. :)
Yes, if somebody wants a more elaborate dinner, there's
Cafe Heidelberg (food like other kids' grandmothers used
to make) or Tony Roma's (mmmmm, ribs ...) or ... or ... :)
We don't have to make a decision on the Pre-DLV thing until
just before the Large Final Mailing, so no big hurry on this
one.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Those strange acronyms:
Norma writes:
>What do those little "ms", "nv", and "sv" things mean?
Venue classification. MainStream, Major Venue, Safe Venue.
There is a fourth (nd Non DLV) but this is deprecated.
The complete acronym list is in a previous mailing. I can
send it to anyone who wants it. :)

Pin project:
Kumiko writes:
>The 2009 DLV pins have been ordered, to be made and delivered
>around 10 days from today (4/6).
>A attachment is included to show the 2009 design.
This is now on the web at the URL:
http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/dlv2009pin.jpg
>I was wondering, you are one that has all the past pins.
I know I have them all, but I don't have them all in one
place. :) I'll have to hunt for some of them. One did go
through the wash a couple months ago, but it survived. :)
>This is just an idea. How about an addition to your dlv web
>pages, to include a page or part of a page to show a pic of

>The page can show the 2009 design proof that can be

>It could attract some past attendees who are on the

Let me work on this. I'll need to find all of them and do
some close-ups against a backdrop. Unfortunately with my
schedule, I can't promise this will happen before DLV.
>Also in the works is a way for those (and I have some emails

Thanks, please let us know when this happens.
