This mailing:
Yep, another very long mailing. We have quite a bit going on
in preparation for the big event, just three months away!
The primary plans for the beginning evening and ending evening
are now set! Thanks to all involved for getting these taken
care of.
We do need to circle back and take a look at our overall schedule
and make plans to start filling in the weak spots.
. . .
Now, as for numbers, I think we may now be seeing the first of
any effects brought on by the state of the economy.
Although returnee registrations were brisk, more so than we have
ever seen in our history, newcomer registrations have slowed
after the initial surge. They are coming in one every few days,
but not at the pace we saw in 2008 and 2007. In particular, local
(Las Vegas area) newcomer registrations are WAY down.
We have, however, long ago reached our critical mass, so we have
nothing to be concerned of regarding a poor turnout. It looks
like we will have a higher ratio of returnees to newcomers if
the current pattern continues.
It's very difficult to compare apples to apples this year, since
our timeframe is three weeks later than it was last year.
If we look at numbers with respect to the second week in
February, we are slightly lower, numbers wise (121 compared to
130-ish), than we were last year, with a higher number of
returnees and a lower number of newcomers than we had last year.
If we look at things using the perspective of 90 days out
from the event, we're still much higher in numbers than we
were last year.
This year, so far at least, we've had far better compliance
with the validation procedure than we've seen in previous years.
I read into this that we're seeing more serious and sincere
newcomer registrations and fewer frivolous registrations and
that the newcomers who are registering, at least so far, are
more likely to actually show up.
Numbers stand now at 121 on the rolls, with new ones coming in,
on average, every few days quite consistently.

Laundry list:
We need to put a few items back on the list here as well as do
"last call" on some of the lingering items.
I would like to ask all to please respond promptly to any items
which concern you, or which you may have some information of.
Thanks to all who have helped move things along this year! :)
. . . . .
* Harmony Nail Spa Open House?
Going twice! About to be tabled.
I know some of you are in touch with Paula and staff. Is there
no interest in this?
. . .
* Pity Party (slash) Costume Party
Mindy, Lisa, any thoughts as to time, location, etc.?
Ping Mindy! Ping Lisa!
We don't need detailed information, but if this is to happen this
year, we need to lock in a place on the calendar for it, or else
start entertaining new ideas.
. . .
* Post-WC activities on Monday.
Since Rock Star Karaoke will probably not be happening, please be
thinking of late-evening activities to fit into this timeslot.
Clubbing, dancing, gaming, shows, whatever. This might also be
a good timeslot for things we have never tried before.
. . .
* Second-track activity opposite Limo Tour on Wednesday
We still have not had any movement on the Pity Party (Mindy?,
Lisa?) and that would be an obvious second-track postprandial
for Wednesday.
If the Pity Party is not going to happen this year, we do need
to think of a worthwhile second-track option for those not doing
the Limo Tour.
. . .
* Tuesday dining
I would like to see one more option for Tuesday dining, in order
to emphasize smaller groups and to have one more in there in case
we have one of them that has to be pulled at late notice.
If you don't feel like doing any "real work", just pick a place
and agree to be there, take a headcount, and use available
tables.
Your choice of venue, scale and cuisine. Volunteers?
. . .
* Friday dining
With Tacos And Tequila tentatively scrapped, we need to go for
at least one more dining option for Friday.
Volunteers?
. . .
* Friday evening activities
We have Murder Mystery and Gaming on the slate.
With the planned dancing option being pulled, we need some kind
of similar activity on Friday.
Dancing has always been high on the attendees' request list.
Big thing is we need a volunteer. This does not have to be high
maintenance, basically pick a place and agree to be there to
welcome the others. It can be mainstream or alternative, your
call.
Volunteers?
We could also use one more non-dancing after-dinner activity
option on Friday to round out the choices.
. . .
* Saturday daytime
Ginger? Any ideas on a Non-SBS social?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Big Sister volunteers needed:
We would like to ask all of you, particularly those who will not
be coordinating an activity this year, to consider being a Big
Sister to one or more newcomers, either prior to or during DLV
2009.
We need to have a pool of volunteers which exceeds the number of
Big Sister requests in order to be able to do a "best-fit" match
instead of a first-fit or a last-resort-fit.
As a Big Sister, you can have things your way. You decide if you
will be available to Little Sisters prior to DLV, during DLV, or
both. You can also decide upon and set limits upon what you will
be willing to do for your Little Sister(s).
Please consider this.
You can volunteer either by filling out the Big Sister Volunteer
screen by following the link which was sent to you when you
registered, or else by e-mailing bigsister@geekbabe.com
Of the two options, it's best to use the screen since it
asks a number of important questions to be used when matching
with potential Little Sisters.
Thanks, gang.

Credit where credit is due:
This year I want to be sure that everybody gets credited, both
in terms of having names mentioned, and in terms of getting on
the list of those who have voting status.
Please look over the following list. If there are omissions,
please let me know. If there are any incorrect entries, please
let me know.
Primary coordinators, please be sure all of your co-coordinators
and assistants are named.
Some of the tentative items are not listed here.
Thanks.

one is solid. Please go ahead and arrange things the way you
think they will work out best.

SO get-together:
This item is primarily addressed to the following:
Courtney
Ginger
Kimberly Komplin
Michelle (NZ)
Mindy
Nora
Randi
Rosada
Vanessa
The reason your names are mentioned is that I show that all of
your SOs will be in attendance this year.
I would like to ask all of you to please discuss with your SOs
the possibility of host(ess)ing a SO activity at DLV 2009.
We don't need to make detailed plans now, but we should be
thinking about this if it is to happen. We also want to reserve
an appropriate timeslot for this as soon as we can.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Power Exchange:
Nora writes:
>From what Amy said the place is totally alcohol free. No bar
>service, no BYOB.
>The only charge is 60 dollars per male and 40 per couple. It is
>also smoke free . If one wants to smoke they must go outside. I
>am not certain about refreshments
Ok, gang. Is this something we want to put on the schedule?
As I said, the obvious timeslot for this would be after NSD on
Thursday, but it would also fit as an activity option on Friday
or a post-bash option on Saturday, if we want to do it.
I would REALLY like to hear comments, pro or anti, regarding what
the gang here thinks about this.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Gaming Night:
Alanna writes:
>I can host the gambling night...
Thanks, Alanna, we've got you down.
Please pick a place. Paris has been suggested, but it's your call.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Dining and dancing:
Joan writes:
>As for T and T i hope to have the answer soon, within a month.
>But if LAX is scratched I will probably have to scratch T and T.
>I don't think many will want to go to the Strip just for dinner.
I'm going to drop T&T from the Friday schedule for now. Please
let us know if there are any developing alternate plans.
There's no major hurry on this, as April 15 is our target date
in regards to having things solid which need a headcount or a
sign-up.
We do need to be thinking of alternatives, as we do need at
least one more dining option on Friday.
. . .
>> Sahara on Monday
>> Rio on Tuesday (MB)
>> Paris on Wednesday
>> Harrah's on Thursday
>> Bellagio on Friday
>I think we've covered all the bases pretty well with this.
. . .
>It's a good possibility. Not sure how receptive our group is for
>minus 5. Perhaps we should scratch minus 5?
What I would suggest is this.
Let's leave it on for now, unless there's something else in the
same timeslot that you specifically want to do instead.
Then a week or so before activity sign-up starts, we'll do a
blurb in the general mailing explaining what it is.
Depending on how many sign up for it, you can make the decision
to keep it or cancel it.
I envision this as being either a major blast or a total bomb.
(Hmmmm ... "major blast" and "total bomb", how similar yet
totally different!) :) :) :)
Although the idea does not appeal to me personally, nor do I
think it would to anybody from the upper midwest, it may be
something that those from warmer climes might enjoy.
We won't know unless we try it.
Brrrrrr!
. . .
>MCC is very welcoming and I can't imagine anyone running off.
I really don't think anyone would bolt, it's just that I think
that if we announce this, it would be nice to have one or more
DLV representatives there to at least be a friendly face for
the others, particularly the newcomers, to look for.
. . .
A new activity proposal.
>I just thought I'd float this proposal. I've been going to a
>place called Dick's Last Resort. It's located in the excalibur
>hotel. Dicks is a place for the adventurous with a loud and fun
>atmosphere. Call it scripted rudeness if you will. Here's the
>website
>www.dickslv.com
LOL, this one looks like fun! Almost like Ed Debevics on
steroids! :) :)
I like this idea, and I would be tempted to join in.
>Dick's Last Resort has a unisex bathroom within the restaurant.
This is good to know, and if this gets on the schedule we can note
it.
(I'm moving some of Joan's comments on this over to the "Special
BDR Edition" of the ORG list, on your doorstep this Friday morning.
>Is this an adventure anyone would be interested in. Or have I
>gone off the deep end. All the best, A.J.
I think this would be a great option either for Tuesday or for
Friday dinner.

Fashion Show Model:

Thanks, Norma.
There ya go, Edy, Rosada, and all who are interested in doing a
fashion show thing. :) Your first model! :)

E-mail address exchange has been done under separate cover.
Please let us know when you have a rendezvous point selected
so we can be sure to note this on the schedule and the map.

Fashion Show progress:
This is a copy, for our reference, of a note Edy wrote to the
Fashion Show Mall:
+Hi Gwen,
+My name is Edy and we talked friday 2/6 re: perhaps using some of
+our "girls" in your fashion show at the Fashion Show Mall this
+May coming.
+About our group. We are a transgendered group of "girls" from all
+over the country, and even from some foreign countries, who have
+come to Vegas every year for over ten years, just to have FUN.
+We typically have over a 100 girls attend and we do Vegas for a
+week. We go to shows, restaurants, museums. We do a big Limo
+tour of the strip stopping at various Casinos along the way, visit
+Lake Meade, golf and bowl, and have a social with all the girls at
+the Chicken Ranch, etc. Our event is named Diva Las Vegas and we
+are all about Fun in a dignified upscale manner.
+We come from all walks of life, are comfortable in presenting in
+public (except for some of our newbies}, have a strict dress
+code/behavior code. We embrace diversity and are sensitive to
+the sensitivities of the general public.
+We also are always looking to do different new things each year.
+Many of our attendies pride themselves on their fem appearances
+and thought about perhaps having our own fashion show. I
+suggested perhaps it would be easier to maybe be a part of your
+fashion show at the Mall. We would be open to a vetting and
+any requirements you may have. However, we would like it to be
+non-spoofical, dignified and professional, and FUN.
+I would like to stop here and allow you to consider what has
+been said. We would be happy to continue a dialogue.
+Nice talking to you,
+Edy Vee, organizer/DLV
Thanks for taking the initiative, Edy. Please keep us informed on
what's going on and if things look like they are going to work
out, please pick a day sooner rather than later. Looking more
closely at the schedule the way things sit now, I would suggest
Tuesday or Wednesday for this.

Bad Attitude Boutique:
Tushell of Bad Attitude is offering the following promotion to DLV
attendees, and a note will go out in our general mailing.
The reason I'm copying this here is to give any of you who either
know Tushell or wish to get involved, the opportunity to contact
them and see if they would like to do more of an "Open House"
type of thing, similar to what Studio Lites and Glamour Boutque
(and hopefully Harmony Nail Spa >>HINT<<) are doing.
Any takers? :)
. . . . .
Tushell writes:
