Org List:

This is the DLV 2009 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

Many things happening:

Sorry about the length of this mailing, as you see, there are a
number of things going on as you know.

First of all, thanks to all for your efforts and responsiveness
this year! We've covered many bases over the past few weeks and
we're on our way to a very successful DLV this year!

We do have a couple of minor setbacks regarding some of our
planned activities, nothing we can't work around, but we do
need to address these. See items below.

Newbee registration just opened and we now have 114 validated
attendees on the rolls. There has been 100% compliance with the
validation procedure so far this year! All of the new attendees
have responded with a prompt and appropriate statement. Not a
single reminder to validate has gone out this year.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Laundry list:

We've cleared about half of the items of of this list recently.
Thanks to all who helped make this happen! :)

We do need to clear up these remaining items or get them off of
the table.
. . . . .

* Harmony Nail Spa Open House?

I know some of you are in touch with Paula and staff. We need a
volunteer to coordinate their Open House, assuming they want to
do it again this year.

Daytime timeslots appear to be going fast, so if there's further
procrastination on this, Harmony Nail Spa may not have a prime
timeslot for a good turnout.

Going once?
. . .

* Pity Party (slash) Costume Party

Mindy, Lisa, any thoughts as to time, location, etc.?

Ping Mindy! Ping Lisa!
. . .

* Gaming option for Friday.

Very easy one. Pick a place and agree to be there. Just welcome
the others, hang out, have fun. This is probably the easiest
ticket to voting status there is! Volunteers?

Do we have any interest in this?

Going once?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Opening evening and final evening:

Let's talk about the final evening first.

No objections, not a peep, regarding the unsuitability of Bahama
Breeze with the floor open for same for about a month.

Nora, please go ahead with plans for Bahama Breeze, let's consider
this one to be solid.

The consensus seems to be that we want the large room that we had
in 2007 if possible.
. . . . .

Also, no objections to Blue Ox for the opening Monday.

Mindy has always been our Blue Ox contact person, but she will
be in Indiana.

Mindy, are you still able and willing to be the go-between for
the Blue Ox for this?

If not, Nora, are you able and willing to either take the lead
on this or assist Mindy?

NSD under new management:

Aiko writes:

>The doves who attended NSD 2008 experienced an added twist with

>As in the past, your pass to get into CR will be the 2009 event

>Amy will be the primary coordinator for NSD 2009, with Kumiko and
>I assisting her.

>With Amy as the parlor game guru, I would expect this year to be
>an absolute riot. :):):)

Thanks, Aiko, we'll mark this as solid.

NSD is a very good example of how a recurrent activity can be kept
fresh by simply adding a few twists to it. Everyone, don't be afraid
to apply this principle to other activities as well.

Greeting and eating:

Britney writes:

>Hello,

>Greeters: I would like to be a greeter, please, esp for
>Monday/kickoff coverage.

Thanks Britney. You're on the list.
. . . . .

>Boat Tour: I am interested in participating in a breakfast/lunch
>enroute. Two Gals in Boulder City was great last year as a chance
>to meet people in a safe setting.

And Diane writes:

>I was not planning on having lunch before the tour; I am arriving
>that morning.

Ok, since Diane will not be available, Britney, can you please
confirm that you will be taking the lead on this one. It should
not require any major busy-work.

Biggest decisions will be timing and if you want to meet and stage
in Las Vegas and carpool.

Thanks.

The addition of the breakfast to the Boat Tour is another very
good example of taking a recurring activity and turning it into
a value-added activity the next time around!

Dining out:

Nora writes:

>I am waiting to see what the others choose. There are several
>options that I can go with for EON night. It will not be
>difficult for me to choose a place after I see what others
>select.

Thanks, Nora.

For Friday, assuming Joan keeps the T&T option or selects another
similar one, I think we are all covered except for yours, as we
have Roy's, Tacos and Tequila or substitute, and the Murder
Mystery and yours will make four. Just let us know what you decide.

For Tuesday there are still some loose ends, so we'll wait for
your selection on that one.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Dinner at Trevi:

>>* Wednesday, Dinner (Trevi)

>>Michelle? Is this still a "go"?

>Yep - started the discussion with manager at Trevi last week

Great! This one has real potential, thanks! :) Please let us know
the details when they are worked out.

We will consider this to be solid.

Fashion Show:

Edy writes:

I would say to go for it if you want to contact the mall and
see what they say. This could be in addition to what Rosada
has been thinking of, in place of it, or have it rolled
into it.

Please let us know what you find out.

As for timing, I would suggest any afternoon except Friday. All
afternoons Mon-Thu now have one daytime activity of some
significance, Friday has three.

Thanks.

Rock Star Karaoke:

Mary Beth writes:

>They are, unfortunately, "between venues". No longer at HOB.

>them to let me know if they get a Monday residency at another club,
>but you'll need to find another activity to fill the time slot as
>there's no guarantee RSK will have a gig.

Ok, scratch that one, thanks for the follow-up.

Please let us know ASAP if they surface somewhere.

>Perhaps a second gambling night, or a meet-up at one of the free
>casino lounges as an alternate activity. The Paris casino usually
>has a band in their free lounge every night. That might be a nice
>free place to meet up for cocktails if there's no karaoke.

As for a "second" gambling night, we don't even have a first, as
it's been an orphan looking for a volunteer for some time now and
is about to get dropped or tabled for lack of interest.

For gaming, I'm sure the Blue Ox would love to have the gang
remain there and play the machines and may be able to do a slot
tournament or some kind of promotion.

Yes, something like Paris might work for after Blue Ox, even
though I'm sure BO would love to have the bar business and the
revenue from the machines.

I know that Ginger was talking a while back about a possible
(lower-priced) show as an option after the Welcome Celebration
but I haven't heard any chatter about this lately. Ginger is
this still on the table?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Lunch with or without Ginger:

Ginger writes:

>Unless you have better suggestions let's do:

>Sahara on Monday
>Rio on Tuesday (MB)
>Paris on Wednesday
>Harrah's on Thursday
>Bellagio on Friday

>This is kinda what we have done in the past. Any other suggestions
>will be considered and approved! :)

Thanks Ginger. I think I have it all in there correctly now.

To all: Ginger is the default hostess for all lunches except for
Tuesday. If you wish to hostess one of these days, please let
us know.

Also to all: Please look over the lunch list and let us know if
any of the venue selections will not work with any other daytime
activities that you may be involved with.

I will be hostessing a cheaper "Lunch Without Ginger" for Friday
at the Sahara, for those who don't wanna pay Bellagio prices
for lunch.

Religious services:

Edy writes:

>I'll probably be available to be at MCC services both
>before and after DLV. Let's make sure it's on the map

Thanks, Edy. Please keep us updated as the date approaches.

MCC will be on the map.

Also see Joan's note below.

Possible venue for late night:

Nora writes:

>Amy from the Glamour Boutique told me today about the Power
>exchange. She has made several trips to the club with her
>customers and reports that it is an "experience" to go there.

>The club is open from 9 PM to 5 Am Thursday thru Saturday. It is

>This may make a good late night outing for some of the group and
>also be a venue to allow those that wish to, to dress as they
>would like to.

This venue has been mentioned before, but never officially proposed
for a scheduled DLV activity.

{pause .. sigh .. deep breath} ...

I would like to hear some chatter regarding this as a potential
DLV activity, both from the standpoint of its appropriateness
or lack of it as a scheduled DLV activity and the practical
aspects of it.

My big question is along the line of assuming that "getting one's
ashes hauled" is not high on the must-do list, what is there at
the Power Exchange?

Is this a good venue to socialize or hang out? I assume that it
will be about as "safe" as a venue can be.

I noticed the term "alcohol free", and I assume this to mean that
not only is there no bar service, but BYOB is not allowed. Is this
the case? Do they serve refreshments, snacks, food of any kind?

Also, and this is bound to come up, the smoking situation? Is the
place smoking or nonsmoking? Or mixed?

>We would need someone to volunteer to host.

Yes, we would need someone to adopt this one and make it official.

>See Web site:

http://powerexchange.com/vegas/playrooms.htm

I would also recommend peeking at the main Las Vegas page:

http://powerexchange.com/vegas/home.htm

The obvious place for this on the schedule, IMAO, is as a post-NSD
gathering on Thursday.

Comments, please!

Dancing and other items:

Joan writes:

>>* Final evening.

>Bahama Breeze is fine. I think we need to get a bigger area. Last
>year was a bit cramped.

Agree. I'm hoping that Nora can negotiate that larger area we had
in 2007. I hope we are not too late for that one.
. . .

>>* Dancing

>Not sure if I will be able to pull off the LAX option. My contact
>is moving to a new job. I'll keep you posted. I'd like to do
>something where she is involved.

I'm going to keep the dance option on the schedule as a place
holder, but I'll remove the venue for now.

Please let us know ASAP if you want to go with this at another
venue.

Also, do you want to keep the Tacos And Tequila option for dining
on Friday on the calendar, move it, or scratch it? Please let us
know on this.
. . .

>>* Monday opening night dinner and Welcome Celebration.

>>Any objections regarding the Blue Ox for the opening evening?

>Blue OX is OK, but I think we need to find a way to seat
>everyone.

>The food was OK, but could be better. Let's do a good menu
>review, and a sampling of the proposed menu items. Call it
>a site inspection of you will.

Actually, I think it can be a Good Thing<tm> at a mixer kind of
affair to have seating be somewhat short in supply. Not only
does it encourage people to mingle and circulate, but it
encourages them to take a seat with {gasp!} those they don't
know yet and make new friends.

The big thing is having enough seats for eating.

I don't remember hearing any complaints along the line of not
being able to find a seat to eat. I know there were some vacant
seats at the bar all night.

My guess is that we will have about the same turnout at the WC
as we did last year.

As to the menu, my first impression was that it was patched
together with no theme, but when it came down to it, the menu
worked. The lack of theme was made up with variety, and the
quality was very good.

If we look back at 2007, we had some major complaints about the
food at the opening dinner. I heard not one complaint about the
food at the Blue Ox last year. The price was very reasonable too.

My preference is to let the BO staff do something similar to
what they did last year in 2008.
. . .

>>* Dinner options for Tuesday and Friday.

>>We still need 1-2 more volunteers, each evening, to host(ess)
>>additional dining options.

>I might do a dinner, but prime rib loft is out this year.
>Nancy does not work on Tuesdays. I have a nice contact at
>Cafe Heidelberg. Does anyone like German Food? Let's feel
>this one out.

I like this one. If I were not already hostessing another
option, I would most likely join you there on Tuesday. I think
it would work just fine, and the Cafe Heidelberg has been on
our Big List for some time now.

I'm going to take the liberty of putting this on the
schedule. Please let us know if you want it scratched or
changed.

Between you and Edy, I think we have MCC covered. My only concern
with MCC, particularly on the Sunday prior to DLV, is that some
newbees will show up, not see anybody to greet them, see their
shadows, and scurry back into their hole, etc. :)
