Org List:

This is the DLV 2009 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)

Looking very good:

We are moving right along! Thanks to those who responded and
helped us move forward.

Validated headcount now sits at 96. As you see, this year we are
very close to breaking 100 before the newcomers get to register,
which, if it should happen, would be a first in the history of DLV.

I'm guardedly optimistic about a close-to-record turnout this year!

Registration for newcomers who are members of the mailing list
will open this weekend. Fasten your seat belts! :)
. . . . .

Despite the ongoing laundry list, we have covered and closed out
a number of things over the past several weeks.

We're now up to full compliment on the Limo Team, with JoAnn,
me (Annie), Mary Beth, Edy, and Marilyn. We have check-in
covered, have a good start on covering our multi-track options,
plus we are converging on plans for our two maximum-attendance
gatherings. Wheels are turning on countless other things.

Thanks to all who have stepped forward to make these things
happen! :)

Laundry list:

Looking over the schedule, we need to confirm that some of the
items that have been listed for a while are still a "go" as of
this time.
. . .

* Monday, 9:45pm: Rock Star Karaoke

Mary Beth, is this a "go"?
. . .

* Tuesday, Eating Out Night Buffet option

Need a volunteer here, please. When we get a volunteer for this
option, I think we can say we have Tuesday covered!

Other EON options (pick something or somewhere you like) are
welcome too.
. . .

* Wednesday, Dinner (Trevi)

Michelle? Is this still a "go"?
. . .

* Friday, dinner options.

We need (at least) one more volunteer to hostess a dinner on
Friday. Where, what scale, and what cuisine can be your choice.
"Affordable option" and "Alternative option" are on the
schedule as placeholders, but your choice can be either of
those or neither.

On a related note, Nora, any restaurant selection on your
choice?

I would like to see at least one option here that is "safe" for
beginners and those who are a bit shy about appearing in public.
. . .

* Harmony Nail Spa Open House?

I know some of you are in touch with Paula and staff. We need a
volunteer to coordinate their Open House, assuming they want to
do it again this year.
. . .

* Pity Party (slash) Costume Party

Mindy, Lisa, any thoughts as to time, location, etc.?
. . .

* Final evening.

We've had no significant objections to Bahama Breeze, despite
multiple notes to get any such objections on the floor. Going
twice, with the gavel raised and ready to strike. :)

If we are gonna do this, we need to give Nora the go-ahead and
see if she can get us the good room this year. :)
. . .

* Monday opening night dinner and Welcome Celebration.

Any objections regarding the Blue Ox for the opening evening?

Again, speak now or forever ...

Going twice ...
. . .

* Dancing

We have a mainstream dance option for Friday. Do we need or want
an "alternative" dance option as well?

Going once?
. . .

* SO activity?

This one does not have to be settled or planned now, but I do
think we want at least one activity along this line.

Those who are SOs, and those whose SOs will be attending, please
be thinking of this.
. . .

* Gaming option for Friday.

Very easy one. Pick a place and agree to be there. Just welcome
the others, hang out, have fun. This is probably the easiest
ticket to voting status there is! Volunteers?
. . .

* Boat tour.

Diane would like some assistance on this. Volunteering to help
will meet the requirements for voting status.

Also, Diane or anyone, please let me know if you want to have a
breakfast or lunch in conjunction with this as was done last
year.

Ping Diane!

Greeting and check-in:

Kimberly Kael writes:

>>3. Greeters.

>I don't know enough people to do much in the way of introductions,
>but I'd be happy to serve as a greeter. I know it can make a big
>difference just to have one or two people take the time to
>introduce themselves and make someone feels at home. Sign me up!

Thanks, Kimberly. You're on the list. :)

It's not really important that you know many of the others, just
be there and be a friendly face for those who are totally new.

The greeters last year did not report that they were that busy,
but I think it's very important to have greeters standing by,
especially for the first few activities where the majority of
the newbees will be making their grand entrance. :)
. . . . .

Nora writes:

>This (greeters) ties right in with the Big Sister program- Put
>me down for it.

Ok, you're on the list too! Thanks.
. . . . .

Check-in:

Nora writes:

>Put me down for opening night and at least one lunch.

Gotcha!
. . .

Crystal writes:

>I would like to volunteer for check-in duty.

>I will do my best to arrive in town as early on Sunday as possible
>to help out with Pre-DLV check-in. I am definitely available to
>assist with check-in at lunch on Monday and Monday evening at
>HH/dinner/WC.

Thanks, gang.

Hmmm ... coincidence maybe, I just realized that our two primary
check-in hostesses this year both come from that quaint little
village of Kensington. :)
. . . . .

Anyway, I think we have check-in covered. We can probably use
1-2 more volunteer greeters for Monday evening, as that's
when most of the cold newcomers will be arriving.

Fashion show:

Rosada writes:

>Sorry it's taken me this long to respond about the fashion show.

>Or maybe we might want to do just a typical fashion show where
>we show off some special outfit we bought just for DLV.

>I don't know. I'm just throwing this out there for comments, I
>guess. If it doesn't fly, we'll just add it to the pile of ideas
>that went nowhere!

Thanks, Rosada.

Well, the way things work in DLV is that if you suggest something,
yes, you are in charge of making it happen. :) That's actually
the way that all of our popular activities happened.

Now is the time to make plans for such a thing, if it's going
to happen this year. We have about 2 1/2 more months of planning
time before plans need to be solid.

As far as clues as to where to start, let's see if I can point
you in the right direction. We'll also call for comments and
suggestions from the gang here.

It looks like you have a theme, ethnic and regional fashion.

I would say that the next steps are to determine what kind of
an activity this will be, how it will fit on the schedule, and
where and under what circumstances it will happen.

Let me see if I can give you some ideas to get started here.
Let's discuss those big burning questions posed in the last
paragraph.

What kind of a show do you have in mind, a stand-alone show, or
one which is rolled into another activity, such as a luncheon
show or dinner show? Or, would a show co-sponsored by one of our
major vendors (Glamour Boutique? Studio Lites?) be more along
the lines of what you have in mind?

As far as where it will fit on the schedule, that is wide
open. It's more of a question of where won't it fit! :)

Depending on the scale and such, I can envision it fitting
almost any day or evening. If co-sponsored by GB or SL, it
could happen in concurrence with an Open House. It could
happen any day, daytime, as a luncheon show, in addition to
or in place of the usual lunch session. It could also work
as an afternoon stand-alone activity.

As for evenings, it could happen as an optional hold-over
after the Welcome Celebration on Monday, as a dinner-show
or after-dinner show on Tuesday, as a second-track option
opposite the dinner and/or Limo Tour on Wednesday, as a
local option opposite NSD on Thursday, or as a dinner-show
or after-dinner show on Friday.

Yes, decisions decisions! :)

Comments, gang?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Timing of activities:

One minor topic I want to bring up this year is that, in keeping
with our quest for attention to detail, we need to go for some
consistency in the timing of our major recurring activities.

We've standardized the start times for many of our recurring
things by custom, and I do think we need to stick to this for
the sake of consistency and convenience to all.

The times we've adopted by precedent are:

Lunch: 1:00pm
Happy Hour: 6:00pm
Dinner: 7:00pm

I would like to see us stick to these times unless, of course,
there is some kind of compelling reason to change on a case by
case basis.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Limo and church:

Edy writes:

>Hey, if JoAnn is still in need of a second girl to help
>with the limo tour, I'm willing. Last year with JoAnn went
>well.

Thanks, Edy. You're on the list. :)

>Also, I plan on being in LV over the ending weekend and would
>be glad to be available at MCC on Sunday for whatever.

Over the past few years when we've had a Monday start, the
demand for MCC has always been on the previous Sunday.

There's nothing that says we can't do it on the Sunday following
DLV in addition to or in place of the preceding Sunday.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Pajama Party:

Sarona writes:

>Hello from Sarona, confirming that I do intend to hold the 9pm
>pajama party cum lingerie personal fashion show as listed.

>In the past, I've had dinner in the room before the pajama party

>either one or both.

>I would call the dinner in the room (probably a 2bedroom
>timeshare apartment) something like "quiet evening at home" for
>those who are really shy to be in public.

That's the way I worded it on the schedule.

I'll also note that this will be the "safest" EON option for
Tuesday.

>Supportive environment, plenty of showers and bathrooms ....etc,
>this could start early, like half past five if people need time
>to change upon arrival and those who wish would also be able to
>go to dinner for EON if they get braver after dressing.

>Signup required for the pajama/fashion show, no fixed price just
>donation toward the cost of the room.

>"quiet evening at home" just call me before coming over so I can
>tell you the room number, if we are too crowded, I'll let you
>know ... you pay for what you order for dinner (delivery pizza
>or chinese) plus a share of the tip/tax.

Thanks Sarona. :)

I'll put this information on the final detailed schedule, plus
your phone number (I assume it's the same as you had) on the
activity summary for those who sign up for it.

We'll say "sign-up required" for the Pajama Party and "sign-up
requested for headcount" for the dinner portion.

Lunch and Limo:

Mary Beth writes:

>Ping Ping!!!!

ACK ACK. :)

>Sorry, I've been swamped with work lately. (And thankful I still
>have a job.)

Yes, same here, on both counts!

>Tentatively, I can host lunch on Tuesday, although I'd like to
>suggest the Rio Buffet, which is very good, and I think tends to
>be underrated.

>It is off strip, but it looks like most of the other lunch options
>are as well.

Ok, we've got you down for Tuesday at the Rio, main buffet.

>I can also help with Limo Tour again.

Thanks, MB. We will most definitely use you.

>The Taco place on Friday night sounds good to me!

LOL, whenever I look at the schedule and see Tacos And Tequila, for
some reason I can't help but think of some kind of a Cheech and
Chong "Oh wow, tay-coes and ta-kwee-la, man ..." line. :) :) :)
