Looking good:

For the most part, thinks are moving along quite well, and I
know that there's some behind-the-scenes action on some of the
activities that we don't see here.
. . .

There will most likely be yet another vote coming out shortly. I
want this one to be on the record as a group decision. See item
below.
. . .

Validated headcount currently sits at 124. Newcomer registrations
remain slower than we saw last year. In particular, newcomer SOs
are way down, only two of them so far, no local newcomer SOs at
all so far.

Registrations still keep coming in very consistently one every
few days or so.

Up until early this morning we had 100% first-time compliance
with the validation procedure, a first in our history since
we started doing the validation. Then (LOL) we received this
in response to a validation e-mail:

+LETS HEAR A BIG HELL YES. THANK YOU (ALL OF YOU) PAT

This is the first one we got along this line so far this year,
and it's unclear whether it means "hell yes I agree to follow
your guidelines" or "hell yes I'm ready to dress and party!" :)

In any case, I think it's safe to say that the newcomer did
not read the message. :) A clarification was requested.

We've passed the 100 mark for turnout projection, so despite the
economy, we will have a very good crowd. Looks like it will be
heavy on returnees, light on newcomers.
. . .

I think we have Tuesday evening fully covered now, assuming we
don't lose anything. Thanks to those who volunteered to take on
these items.

Friday evening is what we now need to focus upon, among a few
other things.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Laundry list:

Let's start to approach this from the perspective of our daily
schedule and where the weak spots are.
. . . . .

+Monday, May 11:

Monday daytime appears to be well-covered. We have a Big Gun
welcome thing to lead off the evening, but nothing solid to
follow.

We're open for about anything to follow the Welcome Celebration.

I'm sure that Blue Ox will be glad to have the gang hang around
and drink and eat and play, but some will want to move on and
it would be nice if we could keep the group at least partly
together.

Dancing, clubbing, gaming, a lower-cost show, things like that.

Ideas?
. . . . .

+Tuesday, May 12:

Assuming we don't lose anything, I think Tuesday is about as
well-covered as we can get. See item immediately below, as well
as comments in other items.
. . . . .

Wednesday, May 13:

For daytime, I know there's been some chatter about moving the
Art Tour to Tuesday and doing some kind of a shopping thing on
Wednesday during the day. I do see the logic of doing the Art
Tour on a day with a less intense evening schedule.

If we're going to move it, I think we need to make the decision
within the near future. One thing I don't want to see is any
kind of a chain-reaction reshuffling of activities as we
approach the zero hour.

For Wednesday evening we have the dinner at Trevi and the Limo
Tour, two very strong anchor activities.

I can envision the Trevi dinner to be our third most attended
activity this year.

Pity Party is right now our biggest hanging item. If anyone is
in touch with Mindy and/or Lisa, please "ping" them and let
them know we need at least a tentative go or no-go on the Pity
Party.
. . . . .

+Thursday, May 14:

Thursday looks solid to me. See possibilities below.
. . . . .

+Friday, May 15:

Friday daytime is solid, but Friday evening is still somewhat weak.

With Nora's Choice in there for dining, that makes three dinner
options including the Murder Mystery. We could use a fourth, for
variety and in case we lose one of the others.

After-dinner options is where we're really hurtin' at the time.

We have the Murder Mystery, which will run into this timeslot, plus
a gaming option. We need a couple more.

9:00pm: Socializing option (TBA) - sv

We've had this one in as a place-holder. For two years I've done an
informal bar type thing, but this year I want to keep my options
open so if anybody else wants to adopt this one, please say so. It's
incredibly easy. Just pick a place (I've been using Goodtimes) and
agree to be there to welcome the others.

9:00pm: Dancing option (TBD) - ms

Our original dancing plans kind of self-destructed. Dancing is
always cited as a favorite activity, and it's always worked well
as a Friday evening thing. We could use either a mainstream or
alternative dancing thing or both on Friday.

Any takers? :)
. . . . .

Saturday daytime is weak, actually nonexistent!

Ginger, any thoughts or movement on a replacement for the usual
SBS type social? Ping Ginger! :)

Saturday evening we do have a big gun lead-off, but I think we
do need something following, if only to keep the group somewhat
together on the last night.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Motion on the floor:

Sorry to go into curmudgeon mode again, but this was brought
up off line and I re-read the text of the standing rule (posted
below) and it most definitely applies here.

We've talked about MCC and a Pre-DLV thing on the Sunday before
DLV.

As you probably know, Mothers Day is Sunday, May 10. We have a
standing rule in force that states:

+1. No DLV events or activities will be formally or informally
+planned or scheduled to occur on Mothers Day (normally the
+second Sunday in May) nor on the two days (Friday and Saturday)
+immediately preceding Mothers Day.

Therefore, I'm raising a motion to suspend (not revoke) this rule
and allow us to announce, informally, attendance at MCC and an
evening Pre-DLV get-together on Sunday, May 10.

I want the go/no-go on this to be a group decision here.

(begin motion)
This is a motion to suspend the rules and allow us to announce,
informally, attendance at the Metropolitan Community Church
morning service and an evening Pre-DLV get-together on Sunday,
May 10, just prior to DLV 2009.

This is a one-time suspension of the rules, not intended to
modify or revoke any relevant standing rules.
(end motion)

Do I hear a second? Discussion?

Gaming Night:

Alanna writes:

>A few questions about the gaming night.

>Paris is fine with me, but table minimums tend to be high.

>Would a venue like Imperial Palace or Sahara be a better choice
>due to the lower table minimum bets.

This is your call. Paris was suggested mainly because they are
openly courting GLBT business, and would be less intimidating
for those who would like to get out and play the tables and/or
machines in girlmode but are still a bit shy of the public.

IP is now of the same ownership as Paris, but under different
management. For the most part they have been very friendly to
us, but there was a rather significant restroom incident there
last year, with the DLV attendee being at fault.

>Second, would a Texas Hold em tournament be more interesting that
>a gaming night.

This, again, is your call.

We had a proposal for a DLV poker party some years ago but it
didn't get any traction.

If you would like to do a poker thing instead of a general
gaming night, feel free to do so.
. . .

Again, thanks to Alanna for picking this one up. I would really
like to see more of you who have never done an activity before
step up and do one.

They don't have to be anything elaborate. Many of them involve
no busy work other than picking a place and agreeing to be there.

See the Laundry List above if you want some ideas. :)

SO and Dick's:

Jamie Renae writes:

>Concerning the SO list.

>double check and see if My registration indicates this?

You are correct, and I missed this totally as I went over the
summary screen. (Am I going prematurely blonde?) :)

I also missed one other organizer, who has 'T' in the So Attending,
but does not have a SO name in there.

If your SO would like to hostess, or assist with any kind of a SO
get-together, please let us know.

>Dick's Last Resort, in San Antonio is a BLAST to visit. If the same

Thanks for the recommendation.

Joan has confirmed Dick's. See item below.

What a drag:

Some of this was forwarded to the Discussion Forum for everyone's
general information. We're bringing it up here in the context of
a DLV activity.

Things have happened quickly regarding this, following our last
ORG mailing. Sorry this is somewhat jumbled. ...

Yes, and I'm sure this would be of interest.

I think Tuesday evening has plenty of options already, so assuming
we don't lose anything, I think there are better timeslots for this
than on Tuesday.

If we don't have a Pity Party on Wednesday, yes, it would be a good
fit as an alternative to the Limo Tour.

We do have one alternative to NSD on Thursday, but there's nothing
that says we can't have another, and I don't see any major issue
or conflicts for this on Thursday, except that the turnout might
be affected by NSD, the capacity of which has been expanded this
year.

IMAO, I think the best fit for this would be after dinner on
Friday, as that's currently our weakest evening.

The big question is, who will volunteer to coordinate it. :)

>Since I found out about it and notified the group and as long
>as there is no advance outlay of funds then I will contact them

Thanks, Nora, please keep us informed.
. . . . .

Here's some communication on this matter:

>I contacted Cashetta. Here is her response. Now waiting to hear
>from the producers.

+Hi Nora-

+Thanks for your email and I'd love to have your group at the
+show! I have forwarded your email to the producers and they will
+be sure to contact you.

+Look forward to meeting you!

+Best,

+Cashetta
. . . . .

And from the Producer:

>We are going to get a group discount but the actual price still has
>to be determined. As soon as I hear from him I will let you know.

+Thank you for the information, Nora. Am I currently determining
+what the Group pricing will be for Magic's A Drag. Once I get
+that ironed out, I will share it with you. As long as there are
+more than 10 people attending the show for your event, the Group
+pricing will apply.

+Have a great afternoon!!!
+Derek Short

Thanks to Nora for doing the legwork here. :)

Thanks, Michelle. I've got all of this entered. I think we can now
say that EON for Tuesday is covered.

SO get-together:

Michelle (NZ) writes:

Thanks Michelle, please let us know if Susan wants to move
forward with this. I know there are plenty of timeslots from
Monday through Wednesday where this would work.

Harmony Nail Spa:

The big burning question on this is: Are you interested enough to
contact Paula and staff and coordinate arrangements for an Open
House type of thing?

The one individual I expected to jump on this has been quiet
about it this year, so it's really up for grabs for you or
whoever wants to do it.

Thanks, Joan. I'll make the adjustments on the schedule.

To all: Does anybody else want to pick up the Cafe Heidleberg
option for EON on Tuesday? If not, it goes bibi.

Better yet, does anybody want to pick up Cafe Heidelberg for
Friday?

Boat tour breakfast:

Joan writes:

Thanks, Joan. I will make the adjustments to the schedule.

I assume that even though they are now named BBQ, they are still
open for breakfast. Can you please confirm?

Thanks for the feedback, Joan.

Ok, in order to get this on the schedule, somebody is going to
have to "adopt" it and solidify the details. Due to the hours of
operation, it will only fit three places, late Thursday, late
Friday, and late Saturday.
