Calling the question:

Here's the remainder of the St. Tropez discussion.

Although the responses seem to lean in favor of the motion, I
don't think we have nearly enough to declare a consensus or
carrying by acclamation, so, we'll vote.

Since this issue is somewhat time-sensitive, we'll do a call
for votes very shortly and those of voting status should receive
their ballot e-mails very soon, plus we'll set the "time to live"
for the polls closing to 24 hours so a more timely announcement
may be made should this motion carry.

I'll ask all of voting status to please vote promptly.

There was an off-line point raised regarding this motion doing two
things at once (dropping one hotel, adding another) and that these
should be two separate votes. Nora's comments below also support
an unbundling of these two actions. However, since this issue is
somewhat time sensitive, let's call the question as moved and as
seconded, to keep things moving. Should the motion fail, those in
favor of dropping the St. Tropez or adding the Sahara, but not
both, can then introduce a motion to do one or the other.

First person, no quoting.

Hi, since I sorta started this thing...

*I vote for one more chance for them*, and I vote with my feet,
which intend to park in their pink bunny slippers at the St
Tropez in May 2009, even though...

(Moderator's note: As a clarification, we're not voting in this
forum. A special ballot mailing will be sent out shortly, which
is the offical vote on the motion.)

St Tropez is flaky. No doubt. Their online rates changed 3 times
since Fri night. But I have a 2-room king suite reserved
(confirmed) for $69/night for 7 nights, with no bump for Fri-Sat.
Online right now anyone can get a decent rate, even though it's
true it's a public rate that either gives 1st night free with 7
nights, or a AAA-AARP-Senior-Militart discount of 10% per night.
Either way it's still a screamin' deal, and as many have mentioned,
the rates could go lower as the economy slips further, so it's
worth checking back anyplace you plan on going.

The St Tropez is quiet, secluded, roomy, and your car is close by
in their ground-level lot. The front desk people (men and women)
were very nice, polite, regardless of my mode. I never felt judged
or unsafe. Their bathrooms are not the best lit in the world, so
plan to bring a makeup mirror or stop at Target and buy a cheap
lamp (but that's true in most hotel bathrooms and I can say is also
true in Ceasars, Mirage, Monte Carlo, Mandalay, Luxor, and Bally's,
at each of which I have stayed in upgraded rooms).

Annie's comments:

My personal opinion is that current management should always honor
commitments made on behalf of the organization by outgoing
management, and that the new GM, by refusing to do so, is not only
being a jerk on this issue but is giving us (and everyone) a good
heads-up on how he (I assume it's a "he" here) intends to run the
property. (Cut corners, renege on obligations, etc.) This is a major
red flag, to me anyway, having worked in hotels in the past.

I don't think we have to go as far as to tell people to stay away,
but I don't think the current management deserves our promoting
of their property as a suggested place to stay.

Nora writes:

I recommend adding the Sahara and retaining the St Tropez. For no
other reason the St Tropez offers safety to those hesitant in going
through a casino and affords closer access to cars.

Checking the Internet rates for the St Tropez it is virtually the
same as the offer made to me by management and we do not have to
provide a deposit.

The hotel does not seem to be taking a TG negative attitude and
at this time I would give them the benefit of the doubt that they
are just incompetent, confused and in turmoil.

Norma writes:

Adding my two cents worth:

The main thing I did not like about the Tropez (2007) was that
the back entrances are locked up at night, requiring me to walk
around to the front through a dingy alley.

Also, I like a full-service restaurant for breakfast.

As for relative room beauty and view: I am not taking up permanent
residence. As long as the room is reasonably clean and comfortable,
I really don't care about the duck in the lake in a painting on the
wall -- or the view of concrete and blinking lights outside the
window.

My primary requirement for a hotel room is a bathroom large enough
to let me put on my makeup. Girls need space for that. Most hotel
rooms have more spacious bathrooms than I have in my own house!

I stayed at the Sahara last time (2008). I found it to be just
fine. But I thought I read, several of your postings ago, that
the Sahara was "iffy", and was not taking reservations past a few
months. Is this still the case? I intend to lock down my hotel
registration some time in January. I can answer that question
for myself at that time.

Kumiko writes:

Its bad business not honoring a verbal or written agreement
made by the former management that was representing this hotel
at that time. The new management should have honored it.

This hotel cannot be trusted in keeping its agreement, verbal
or written. There is NO assurance in any form of them to keep
any type of agreements that are negotiated in the past, now, or in
the future.

I agree to dump St. Tropez
