Org List:

This is the DLV 2009 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

Hotels and other business:

We haven't had any nominations of any off-strip and/or nongaming
hotels so far. In the past years we've had the Alexis Park and
the St. Tropez on the list in this category. I haven't stayed
at either, so I hesitate to nominate either or both.

Alexis Park and St. Tropez fans? Nominations?

Other nongaming or off-strip properties?

Also, do we have a second for the Imperial Palace and/or the
Gold Coast?
. . .

In other business ...

Administrative Committee:

We do need to move along with this.

We'll accept additional nominations for one more list cycle,
closing next Wednesday at mailing time. If we don't get any
more nominations, we'll go for a vote, with one vacancy to
be filled.

Self-nominating (volunteering) is acceptable.

We can then leave the floor open for additional nominations
to come in at any time. I have a feeling that when the
more, uh, "stimulating" topics are reported on, we'll have
more interest in volunteers or nominations.

Strategic planning of activities:

I would like to re-open various trains of thought regarding some
of our 2009 activities, first by reviewing some of the threads
that have occurred, mentioning or suggesting activities, both
general and specific.

I'm going to take the liberty of placing some of these on the
schedule to see how they look and how they fit. Those who do
adopt these do have the final say as to when, so if something
needs to be moved, it can be.

Also, please look over the schedule for anything that does
not work, for one reason or another.
. . .

Big number one item on our plate needs to be the ending
evening.

This one is not gonna go away until we have some quality
plans laid down.

Although I know we can count on Nora and some of the other
local people to do such things as select facilities, it's
up to all of us to plan this one. When the time is right,
yes, we can hand this off to one or more volunteers to
be responsible for it, but as of now, please think of it
as everyone's responsibility (yes, including YOU) to help
formulate and plan it.

I think it's a given that we want this to be a maximum-turnout
affair. In order for this, we need to come up with something
that's universally of interest to our diverse crowd.

Another given is that we'll most likely begin the evening with
a happy hour and dinner, all single-tracked.

I would like to see the evening continue, however, preferably
at the same location of the dinner, but if that's not practical
we need a postprandial ending get-together that's going to
sound interesting enough to stimulate our people to attend and
to make the best of it.

There are some items below which I think, if done right, would
add quite a bit to our ending evening.
. . . . .

Let's continue by enumerating the specifics that have been discussed:

1. Costume party.

Some discussion, not much actual planning for this. IMAO it could
work well on either Tuesday or Friday of our tentative schedule.

The more I think of it, the more I think that a costume party,
per se, will not work as our ending bash. I don't think it has
a wide enough appeal to do so.

2. Interactive murder mystery.

My hunch is that Friday evening would be the best fit for this
activity, as one of 3 or so options, perhaps combined with
dinner.

3. Shooting match or pistol range.

Most likely a daytime thing. Gina?

4. Roundtable discussions, TG cultures, restroom usage.

I am thinking that something like this might be a very good
opening-day low-key afternoon activity, perhaps following
Lunch With Ginger/whoever.

5. Cirque show.

It appears that the movement this year is to unbundle the
show/limo combo. My suggestion is to do this kind of show
as some kind of a "Theater Night" track, perhaps scheduled
with a pre or after dinner, on Tuesday as one track of several.

6. Daily exercise program.

Going twice, gavel raised and ready to strike!

7. DLV Fashion Show.

Most likely a daytime thing (luncheon show?), but I can
envision an evening dinner and fashion show working as well.

Now's the time to start planning something like this if it
is to happen!

8. Burlesque Night.

Going once ...

9. Shopping trips.

Obvious daytime thing. All it takes is for somebody to plan them
and pick timeslots.

10. Night at the movies.

IMAO, the reason that this has never worked is that plans
have always been too iffy.

This would be a good fit on Tuesday as one track, but for it
to come off, plans need to be made and stuck to. The theater
schedules should be known far enough in advance for the exact
time and film to be seen to appear in the Large Final Mailing.

11. Magic show.

I see this as either a Tuesday option, or perhaps on Friday.

12. Big dress-up dinner and ball.

There was a lot of talk about this for a while, but it died
down with nothing firm being planned. If done right, I can see
a dress-up affair working as our ending bash if, of course, we
allow nice casual as well.

Scheduling and room sharing:

For DLV organizational business, yes, dlvorg@geekbabe.com is the
best to use. Personal e-mail is annie@annie.net

>I am thinking I would like to schedule some events for the

IIRC, you like to sponsor smaller evening things, and there
are two evenings on the tentative schedule that have been
designated for multi-track options, those being Tuesday and
Friday.

I am hoping that people plan some "larger smaller" things (if
you get what I mean) on Friday, and that Tuesday we'll have
a larger number of smaller things. So, if you're gonna do a
"Little Girl Party" or something like that, it would fit
very nicely on Tuesday.

As for room sharing, I would again like to have some kind of
a coordinated effort for a roommate clearing house, as the
past two years' survey reports indicated a good outcome of
roommate matching.

I think we should again offer Diane the right of first refusal
for this job, and if she doesn't want it, open it up for
volunteers.

Thanks, Kimberly.

I will second your nomination of the Paris. I agree that it's
a Good Thing<tm> for us to should support those who support the
GLBT community.

However, I checked on the web, and the rates are $200-ish
per night, and with today's economy, I don't know how many
of our people will be willing to spend that for a room.

I guess we really won't know until next spring.

>I'm not clear whether non-voting members of the organization
>group are supposed to participate in the nomination process,
>but what the heck.

The way I interpret the rule, which is very clear, is that
"voting" means voting and, except where specifically noted
"of voting status" or words to that effect, everyone can
participate in all other aspects of the decision-making
process, including participating in disussion and debate,
making and seconding nominations, "campaigning" for various
votes, all but actually casting the vote.

Golf scheduling:

Kimberly Kael writes:

>>If we keep the limo tour on wed we should do golf on thurs.
>>Golf never works on the day of a dressy event.

>The limo tour begins late enough that there's more than

Thanks, Kimberly.

Mindy? Any tentative selection of a golf day? This is really
your call. I might suggest you look at Tuesday for golf, as
that is the least intense when looking at the combined night
before and evening after in terms of peoples' energy level.
