Let's keep up the good conversation, particularly as far as
discussing the ending bash, other activities, and hotels.
. . . . .

First item of business ...

For the Administrative Committee, no other nominations besides
Gina have come in.

Unless there are any objections, I would like to declare Gina the
holder of the two-year seat on the Committee by acclamation. This
saves us from a formal vote, and I know how much all of you just
LOVE the voting. :)

As I said, I have a feeling that when some of the more, uh,
"interesting" topics are reported upon, we'll be able to fill
the vacant seat.

Objections?

More nominations?

Farewell dinner

Nora writes:

>I can contact the Bahama Breeze for the final night but last year
>there seemed to be some talk about a change in venue.

Personally I like the Bahama Breeze, but I'm not everyone and we
do need something that appeals to the majority of the attendees
in order to get a maximum turnout for the final evening.

I would **REALLY** like to hear from some of the others here
on this topic. Do we want the farewell dinner at the Bahama
Breeze or elsewhere in 2009?

The two comments I heard in person last year at DLV were to
the effect of that the food did not appeal to some, who ended
up going to BB for Happy Hour and then elsewhere to eat, and
kind of a general comment that it was becoming more of the
same-old-same-old.

>If there is a feeling to change the location for the farewell get
>together we can do the Bahama Breeze on another night.

I want what will give us the best turnout on that very important
last night!

If Bahama Breeze will do it, then I want Bahama Breeze. If the
Teeming Millions want another place, then I want another place.

Looking at the survey numbers for Bahama Breeze for the four
years we've used them, they have increased each year on the
enjoyment scale: 4.13, 4.36, 4.56, and 4.60 and held very
consistently at 4.70, 4.73, 4.72, and 4.76 on the comfort
scale.

The numbers are very good, particularly for the past two
years.

However, if it's getting repetitive, we probably need to
look elsewhere this year for our maximum-turnout thing.

We do need some feedback on this, gang! Comments?

However, my personal opinion and suggestion ...

What I might suggest here is for 2009, use the Bahama Breeze
for one option for our larger-group "Eating Out Night" (LGEON?)
on Friday, and look for a different, possibly new place for the
big too-doo on Saturday.

The only question is where, and all of us, not just Nora and
not just me, need to participate in this decision.

>If anyone likes Indian food I can arrange a dinner at an Indian
>restaurant across from the Bahama Breeze. The food is great and
>it is large enough to accommodate a fairly large group. This may
>be better for an EON night but we can discuss it.

My guess is that this would work better as either a smaller
group EON thing on Tuesday, or a larger group EON thing on
Friday. My experience with groups is that the less exotic
the food is, the better the turnout is.

I remember one concern about the Bahama Breeze way back when
we first started using it was that it was a bit exotic. I have
noticed that the menu has shifted in the direction of being
more American and less Caribbean over the years we've been
doing it.

Comments, gang?

Couple of things:

Mindy writes:

>RE the costume party. If somebody wants to work on it with Kimberly
>I think it would work with the pity party since it really is a free
>dress event anyway.

Mindy (and all, actually), one thing we need to be thinking of
is the placement of the Pity Party on the 2009 schedule. Since the
movement du jour is to unbundle the Limo Tour and the Big Show, a
Big Show is most likely to happen on one of the multi-track
evenings, Tuesday or Friday.

Do you want the Pity Party to be opposite the Big Show, or the
Limo Tour?
. . . . .

>RE golf. Tues is the only suggestion I have heard so far. Any
>weekday except maybe friday will work. I do need to get something
>firm so we can reserve the date.

I am going to pencil it in on Tuesday then, to hold the place and
to get a feel for what the schedule will look like.

This can be changed if you want it to be changed.
. . . . .

>RE Mindy moving to Indiana. We could bring back the garden party
>if everybody wants to fly to South Bend Sat morning (LOL) I guess
>we could charter a small jet.

>Actually I do plan on having a small gather during the late summer
>in South Bend centered around Golf and a garden party. The new

Do please keep us posted, Mindy. That would be a nice off-season
get-away. :)

Ending bash activity:

Rosada writes:

>Comments?

Well, gang, we have an idea here. Do we want to pursue this
angle?

Would a fashion show dinner-show be something that would draw
a maximum turnout on our closing night?

Would something like this work better in conjunction with
the Pity Party?

Or, do you want to see it as a stand-alone affair?

Comments, gang?

Firing range:

The idea of a shooting activity is getting some traction. I would
suggest that those of you who wish to see this happen continue
the discussion here, pick a tentative timeslot, and make some
definite plans for it.

Eileen writes:

>I like the idea of a group going to a firing range for hand and

Vanessa writes:

Thanks, Eileen and Vanessa.

We've had this discussed off and on, by Gina and others, but
it's never happened.

This is very atypical of what you see at a TG gathering. This
is really a Good Thing, as things like this are what sets us
apart from the other TG events!

Please continue the discussion and planning.

Hotels:

Do we have a second for the Imperial Palace, Sahara, and Alexis
Park?

Thanks, Jessie. You are not the only one answering this call. :)
. . . . .

Nora writes:

>One vote for the St Tropez.

Thanks, Nora. We'll consider this to be a second of the St. Tropez.
. . . . .

Joan writes:

>>>OK!, I nominate the Gold Coast.

>>Do we have a second?

>I do second the Gold Coast.

Thanks, Joan. It will be on the ballot.
. . . . .

Mary Beth writes:

>I will nominate the Sahara, assuming it's not closed for renovations.

I just checked the Sahara web site. Even though they have extended
the calendar to April, they are still not quoting rates or accepting
reservations past February.

If we do decide on this as a suggested hotel, we should check
with the hotel prior to announcing it (announcement will happen
in December) to be sure that they will indeed be open at the time.

Thanks, Vanessa.

We actually did have a large gathering penciled in at the AP
last year, but a new manager would not honor the terms that
were agreed upon, so we pulled it. They turned down a lot of
very good business! Yes, it is a possibility for this coming
year, as we did have our informal pre-DLV welcome thing there
last year and it did come off quite well.

AP might even be a suitable venue for a fashion show dinner show
type of thing. Even for our ending bash, depending on what
direction that takes.

Thanks, Danette. We'll consider this to be another second for
the St. Tropez, and it will definitely appear on the ballot.

Activities:

Joan writes:

>>11. Magic show.

>Lance Burton, Criss Angel?

Yes, and all this will take is for somebody to "adopt" it and put
it on the schedule. :)
. . .

>>12. Big dress-up dinner and ball.

>Business casual at a minimum.

Most of our people like to dress up. Those who don't choose to
go all-glam can, indeed, dress in nice casual, and the vast
majority do know what's appropriate, on both ends of the scale.

The questions I have on this regard the strategy of what kind
of an activity this is to be, meaning is it a costume thing, or
a dress-up thing (or maybe both), and where something like this
will best fit in the scheme of things for DLV 2009. One thing
is the strategy of trying to make this the big maximum-turnout
ending bash, or placing it in another timeslot on another
evening.
. . .

>For those not going to NSD, I'm tentatively proposing an

Thanks, Joan. I will get this on the tentative schedule.

Art Tour:

Sarah writes:

Thanks, Sarah, it's on the schedule. I'm assuming a morning and
afternoon thing again.
