Moving along:

Now that the date issue is behind us, we need to move on with the
nuts and bolts of planning the event.

The confirmed dates are not ideal, I admit, but I do think we can
make them work and hold a very successful event.

I do feel bad for those who may be left out this coming year. I
just can't see a solution which will make everybody happy. I do
think we carried out this process in a fair and equitible manner
and let everyone who had something to say about the dates have
their say.

There was a question raised about who is eligible to vote. See the
clarification below.

Mary Beth expresses this concern:

>We're not going to get into that "hanging chad" thing are we?

No, but if there's a traceable technical error that ever
influences the outcome of one of our votes, we want to know
about it, and deal with it.

Belated golf comments:

This came in some time ago, but was delayed due to the date issue.
This is presented in the first person, no quoting.

Eliese writes:

hi,

regarding " gowf ": i have participated 2007, 2008 (the only times i
have attended DLV); those are the only 2 rounds i have played since i
cannot remember when (though the set of clubs given to me by my father
while i was in high school has reposed in my living room for just about
as long). i am fine with the way the "tournament" has been organized
those 2 years -- i have no familiarity with playing any other
"formats" so have no opinion on any.

the "prize" structure as current also suits me, but i would be willing
to pay a bit additional should that seem the popular way to go.

i find i do sort of think of DLV as being the Golf Tournament
surrounded by some other events, but with my only 2 years
participation, that's not an absolutely firm conviction. DLV is about
the only time i get to do anything with others who enjoy the same
"hobby."

BTW: '08 i played the last 5 holes with only my 5-iron, using the
back of the blade to putt left-handed (this didn't seem to make much
difference in score). i have been trying / hoping that my partner
might become interested in "gowf " so gave her a 5-iron of her own.
(we play in an instrumental surf music band, and one of our original
tunes, on our CD, is entitled "Five-Iron".) we had joked about playing
using only a 5-iron, so i thought i'd actually try it; it worked, after
a fashion - would be a lot less to hand-carry, but with a cart, that
doesn't much matter. ==== i doubt if a "format" limiting players to,
say, one club + putter, or .... would be at all successful ^_^ .

Do-it list:

Items which need our attention during the following weeks and
months are as follows:

Suggested hotels: See item below.
. . .

Ending bash:

We've had reasonably strong ending activities in 2008 and 2007,
and I would like to see this trend continue for 2009.

I would like to hear some fresh ideas for this.

Yes, I know, some of you are thinking that several of our people
depart on Saturday for various reasons. I would like to approach
this from the opposite direction, meaning if we give them
something to look forward to, they will be more likely to stay!
. . .

Admin Committee:

We have one nomination, Gina, before we got distracted by the
date issue. Floor is still open for additional nominations.

We need at least one more nomination for this.
. . .

Preliminary schedule: See item below.
. . .

Publicity:

Ginger will be passing out flyers at SCC next week. Both I
and Ginger will be passing out flyers and brochures at
Pinkfest next month.

If anybody else will be attending any other events where
potential DLV attendees may be, we can make the .pdf files
of the flyers and brochures available to you.

I really think that this non-web visibility helped us in
our over-the-top turnout this year!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Suggested Hotels:

One of the next milestones for us is to select an appropriate
number of hotels to be suggested for our attendees. This has
been done since the early 2000s for those who want to know
where our people have been received well, for those who want
to be near others, and even for those who want some distance.

We want to have this taken care of no later than the last of
November, so we can announce this is a general mailing which
will go out early December, while we still have the attention
of the Teeming Millions before they get wrapped up in the
holidays.

Historically, Sahara and Imperial Palace have always been on
our list. Why? Because our people seem to like both of them.

Lately the St. Tropez and Alexis Park have also been on there,
particularly for those who want a nongaming hotel or one which
is not as busy.

The Paris has been mentioned as a good candidate, since they
have been actively courting GLBT business.

Sahara may be iffy this year. They do not appear to be accepting
reservations past February, but they have stated over and over
that they would remain open during their planned renovations.
Nobody seems to know exactly what the story is.

Floor is now open for suggested hotel nominations. A duplicate
nomination will be considered to be a second.

Hotels, ladies? Discussion? Nominations?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Starting out the schedule:

I went back through our discussions and plugged in almost everything
that has been discussed or assumed, filling in some blanks when and
where appropriate.

Nothing is in stone here.

Ginger, don't worry about the LWG locations in there now. I just
put them in as place holders. We can change the location and the
hostess name as is appropriate.

I've mostly concentrated on the evening things, going from my
notes going back to May. We now need to fill in some tentative
items in the days.

I'm asking those of you who sponsor the major daytime things
(Golf, High Tea, Art Tour, Boat Tour, etc.) to please pick a day,
if not only for a place holder. I would also suggest that we do
not schedule any two of the major daytime things against each
other.

Likewise, for those of you who are in contact with our vendors
who like to sponsor the Open House sessions, please get their
preference as to a day.

I would suggest avoiding Monday, daytime, for any activity which
tends to be popular, as we do have the real-world issue of
Mothers Day the day before, and Monday may be a travel day for
some.

Voting eligibility:

In following up two reports of non-receipt of the ballots, those
who reported not getting the ballot were not on the list of those
eligible to vote.

A standing rule adopted in 2007 defines the electorate (those who
are eligible to vote) as those who are on record as coordinating
or assisting with at least one DLV activity during the past two
DLV events. Those who are currently on record for having voting
status are:

Aiko
Annie
Crystal (NY)
Diane (AZ)
Edy
Gina (CA)
Ginger (TN)
Haze
Jamie Renae
JoAnn
Joan (NV)
Julie Brenda
Kay (TN)
Keri
Kumiko (Yvonne)
LeeAnna
Lori (FL)
Marcia
Mardi
Mary Beth
Michelle (NZ)
Mindy
Nora
Ruthie
Sarah (UT)
Susan (NV)
Virginia (KS)

If you coordinated (or assisted with) one or more DLV activities in
the past two years and do not appear on the list above, please
write in and let us know of the omission.
