Finalizing the dates:
Our Call For Comments regarding the DLV 2009 dates will expire
this coming Sunday, August 31.
I would like to ask all of you, particularly those of you for
whom the date issue is of importance, to please plan to check
your e-mail frequently and read any ORG material promptly during
the first several days of September.
The plan is, unless something earthshaking or time-critical is
received between now and then, to open the floor for date-related
motions at the time of the September 3 ORG mailing, and closing
it on September 10.
Date comments which came in non-public e-mail appear below.

Thanks, Gina. I assume you mean that there's no reason to believe
that the Charles Bar will NOT be available. :)

Thanks, Gina. Please forge my name on it. :)

Thanks, Gina.
I second Gina's nominiation.
Any more nominations? Floor is still open, and two positions are
to be filled.

No problem. I'll be setting aside time to prepare for DLV and can
guarantee that I'm responsive once we're getting close to deadlines.
I'll probably wind up automating part of the process so that last-
minute changes can be made and reflected across multiple formats.

I'd be happy to work on it, though looking for a corporate sponsor
wouldn't be my specialty. We might be better off finding someone else
to tackle that challenge who has more experience in that area while
I'd be happy to handle the "production" end of things.

Thanks, Kimberly. When we start the schedule I'll get you a
copy of the raw data so you can see the format. It's bar
delimited by default.

By "corporate sponsorship" I was thinking in terms of those
businesses which already support DLV, specifically the three
who hold regular Open House sessions. They could have a
modest display ad in exchange for covering the cost of
duplicating.

Golf comments:
We did get a better response this time WRT requesting comments on
golf.

Mardi writes:
Mindy,
please leave golf as is most of the girls are out just to play
fem. we don't need to make this a competition event which might
discourage the girls that don't play that much. If some of the
girls want we could have a skins game the best score on each hole.
I guess everyone is happy with the May dates, I would like to
play golf in March or April with the weather iffy back east.
But that's me, since there is no talk about changing the dates,
everyone is happy.

The golf outing was great, but we might be able to do a few things to
make it even better. If we have enough players, we might consider a
"shotgun" start, which might bring us all back into the clubhouse
together, or there abouts.
Since this is more for fun than anything, we could also establish some
of our own courtesy rules for one another. Things like stroke limits on
holes, time spent looking for our lost balls, etc.
And for our novice players, I would suggest a few trips to the driving
range in the days and weeks before the actual golf outing.
I'm also in favor of paying a higher fee so that we could have a small
prize ladder, and also a nicer lunch afterwards.

The golf format was fine and I would be willing to pay a couple
extra bucks to enhance the prizes.

Charity discussion:
Suzette has proposed a good-will project with the intent of
helping others and projecting a positive image. She put this
up on the Discussion Forum and there was a certain amount of
discussion, some what-if-ing, and then a digression toward
the dramatic. :(
My personal opinion is that such a project is beyond the scope
of what DLV is intended to do, but that if somebody wants to
take on such a project, DLV can provide an appropriate amount
of support and notification to the attendees.
I would like to hear what other ORG people think.
Here is Suzette's original item:
Suzette writes:

This would be similar to what was done at Pinkfest last year.
To answer some concerns that were brought up in the Discussion
Forum, I envision such a thing to be a direct collection for
a designated charity, and not two-stepped through some kind
of a DLV-managed account. The person who collected the $$$
at Pinkfest would make arrangements for the appropriate
receipt to those who wished to take a deduction.

Hmmm... May 11th. I don't know if I'll make it or not. I'm relocating
back to Washington a month from now. And never having gone to Esprit, I
was thinking about trying that in '09. I'm only going to be about 30
miles and a ferry ride away from that location and it's the same week.
