This is the DLV 2009 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not

The next few days:

Please check your e-mail frequently and read any ORG items
promptly, should they be sent out, over the next few days.
Should a motion (see below) be raised, we'll switch from a
digest to an immediate-send format for the business at hand.

As per our precedent, nothing of consequence will happen without
at least a 48 hour notice.

For those who are considering raising such a motion, I would
ask that you please re-read the discussion on the dates very
thoroughly, both in the ORG archives and on the Discussion
Forum, so that we don't end up re-hashing what has already
been hashed and rehashed.

Floor is open:

Our one-month Call For Comments has expired and the floor is now
open for a motion, should it be raised, to reconsider the DLV
2009 dates. The floor will remain open for such a motion for one
week, closing for such a motion at the time of the September 10
ORG mailing. A duplicate motion will be considered to be a second.

The floor is not (yet) open for motions mentioning specific dates
or nominations of particular alternate timeframes.

Should a motion to reconsider the dates carry, the date selection
process will begin again at that time, and the floor will then be
open for timeframe nominations and related discussion.

Should such a motion not be received by September 10, the
tentative dates will be marked as final on the web site and
will be considered to be "scheduled".

As a reminder, our Standing Rules state that once scheduled, the
dates for a DLV event cannot be changed by more than three days
without a 2/3 majority of those of voting status.

Thanks to all for your input, understanding and patience regarding
the date selection process.

Sponsorship of schedule:

Agree.

I think that's a major understood provision.

I was thinking of the three vendors we've had a good mutual
relationship with for the past few years, Glamour Boutique,
Harmony Nail Spa, and Studio Lites. I think our people give
all of them enough business so they might be receptive to
sponsor something like this.

Dinner at Roy's:

Kimberly, I owe you an apology. In my haste to get the last
mailing out (I was multitasking at the time) I bastardized
your two items. I failed to respond at all to the one on the
Roy's Restaurant. :(

Thanks, Kimberly. We'll definitely have at least one, more likely
two multi-track dining options this coming year. We'll let you
decide a best-fit as to which evening you put this.

Outside the Box for Diva Dates:

There were a few spans mentioned which did not begin or end
on a weekend, but none of them ever made it into nomination.

We've had mid-week starts and ends throughout our history,
but none in recent years.

There's no rule that we can't start/end mid-week. It's just
that none of the mentioned spans of that type got any
traction at all this year.

I'm personally not opposed to a mid-week start or end, as
this was our norm up through 2001. However, I do see the
reasons why the weekend start/end is more popular.

Now, as to your specific dates ...

>I check the Riveria tonight and the rates were ---

>Thu 4/23-$122
>Fri 4/24-$87
>Sat 4/25-$87
>Sun 4/26-$40
>Mon 4/27-$40
>Tue 4/28-$40
>Wed 4/29-$40

>No rates posted for the Sahara. Other hotels we all staqy
>seemed to be in the same price range

>We could have all the same events of past years just re-arrange
>the days they are held and in a different order Now that is a
>new thought!!.

Starting the 23rd. and ending on the 29th. is seven days, not
six. Let's examine either a 23-28 or 24-29 timeframe.

As to a 23-28 (Thu-Tue) span, I see that triple rate (compared
to the weekdays of the following week) on Thursday the 23 as a
real killer, and a sure-fire recipe for a slow start. :(

As to a 24-29 (Fri-Wed) span, this will get our weekenders in
for the first few days.

>This also accommodates the "black out days" for Nora and Mindy.
>And we will not have the heat of mid-May.

Mindy is locked out on the 29th. Granted, this is just one
day and not four.

>Just a thought.... JoAnn

Well, hold that thought. :) If a motion to reschedule carries,
you can place such a timeframe in nomination.
