Changing Of The Guard:

Ladies (and Gentlemen),

This is Aiko, your new Moderator and Project Manager for Diva Las Vegas
2007. As we are all aware, Annie has asked to step down from her
position as Moderator for DLV. She can never be replaced, and it will
take at least three people to do what she has done alone for the past
ten years. But, I might add that she's still part of the team as the
technical expert and List Coordinator for Diva Las Vegas.

Before any discussion of DLV 2007 takes place, I'd like to join each and
every one of you in thanking Annie for the tremendous job that she has
done over the past ten years in coordinating Diva Las Vegas into THE
premier T*-event in the world. Let's hear it for Annie (clap-clap,
whistle-whistle) all together now, **THANKS Annie**. J

Now, I'm sure everyone has been wondering how DLV will change in the
discussion format and presentations for DLV 2007. How about ' NADA!
Since the discussion format has worked very well in the past, why change
it? However, I'm not as verbose, nor detailed as Annie, so it may
require some additional comments from you, the Diva Las Vegas
Organizers, to help me fill in the blanks. What that really means is
I'll need your input so DLV can continue in a positive direction. Let's
keep an open discussion line and it's definitely okay to 'agree to
disagree'.

My exposure to the T*world has been somewhat limited to hometown T*-
activities and Diva Las Vegas, since 2001. Diva Las Vegas 2001 was my
first real-world experience, and I learned and enjoyed that time so
much, that I've attended each year since. One of the things that I've
learned is the fragile nature of our 'world'. We'll need to keep the
lines of communication open and honest, but still be courteous and
empathetic to everyone in the loop.

Moving forward:

Overall, DLV 2006 was enjoyed by almost everyone who attended. There
were some issues of inappropriate dress, and that should be addressed
for DLV 2007. I think the behavior of the vast majority of our attendees
was commendable. And, I don't believe there were any real incidents
during DLV 2006 week. There were some glitches in a few activities,
which we can learn from, but DLV 2006 was a very good building block to
continue with.

If there's anything major that we should address for 2007, let's do that
sooner instead of later. For DLV 2007, I'm not aware of anyone asking
for major changes in the DLV format.

With that in mind, there are some things that will not change for DLV 2007:

1. The location - Las Vegas.
2. The timeframe - Springtime.
3. The format - Vacation not a convention.

One glaring item that needs addressing is that our current activity
coordinators are basically the same people for the past few years. We do
need additional volunteers to add to the pool, along with fresh ideas
for new and exciting activities. One idea would be to assign a 'helper'
to each non-trivial activity. This helper could be a 'draftee'. I'd like
to suggest each volunteer ask someone that is not coordinating another
non-trivial activity to assist in their activity. There's some reasoning
behind this idea. If the primary coordinator is unable to fulfill her
commitment, then the assistant could complete the necessary coordinating
to make the activity happen.

Also, let's be thinking 'outside of the box' for a variety of
activities. New activities can be spin-offs of existing ones. An example
is Night Of The Soiled Doves. This was an idea that started simply as a
discussion of a possible photo-op on the way back from a coordinated
activity in the desert.

I will be working on a schedule of priorities that will be addressed in
the coming weeks, the first of which will be the dates of Diva Las Vegas
2007.

As a matter of fact, the floor is now open for discussion for the dates
of DLV 2007.

Skydiving:

Ok, we'll use this to start the database of activities for DLV 2007.

A few questions:

1. Is this a daily or one-time activity?

2. If daily, will it be weekdays only or weekdays/weekends?

3. Timing. I'm assuming you'll want this immediately following Lunch
With Or Without Ginger, is this correct?

4. Dress? I assume heels are recommended, to give the participants an
additional boost on jump-out. Do we want to recommend a strapless bra
so they don't get confused while reaching for the rip cord?

I agree with you about demonstrating what's appropriate dress for a
particular activity.

There may be a problem with isolating particular examples of
inappropriate dress. Do we show their faces unedited, or are they
blurred? Also, many of the attendees would know who the person(s) are
by what they were wearing. I would hesitate to embarrass someone who is
clueless, when a discrete talk would probably solve the problem. OTOH,
for those that persist in ignoring the BDR standards, your point is well
taken that it might make them decide whether DLV is the right event for
them. Good point.

The reinforcement of appropriate dress has seemed to work, since we had
no reported incidents in 2006, and only a few issues over the past few
years.
