This mailing:

This is the first mailing that I (Aiko) have produced, with _A Lot_ of
help from Annie. :)

I'd like to thank those who have volunteered as activity coordinators
thus far, and would also like to see some new faces as activity
coordinators.

If you have an idea that you think would be fun, please come forward
with it. Some of the best activities have started out as "just an
idea". :)

Annie writes:

There were some issues of inappropriate dress, and that should be
addressed for DLV 2007.

IMAO, we should use two separate approaches, and also IMAO we don't
need any more rules, regulations, etc.

For the few that wish to say "f*ck you" to the rules, deal with them
swiftly without giving them any attention in public.

For those who are genuinely new, inexperienced, clueless, or even
oblivious, something like a "Basic Face 101" session at GB, toward the
beginning of the week.

>One glaring item that needs addressing is that our current activity
>coordinators are basically the same people for the past few years. We
>do need additional volunteers to add to the pool, along with fresh
>ideas for new and exciting activities.

I agree that we need to spread the load around much better. We can't
keep asking the same gang to take on more and more and more! :(

Additional comments on this below.

>Also, let's be thinking 'outside of the box' for a variety of
>activities. New activities can be spin-offs of existing ones. ...

Agreed. Doing some cut-pasting here, we have some brand new ideas and
some variations on the themes of some existing ones:

+I'd like to host one or more alternative theater evenings where people
+get their own tickets at a major show that we select then we just show
+up and see the show. We can also do an after theater gathering
+somewhere following. This seemed to work well at Dragpella!

+simply stating interest at this point, I would like to organize a
+Wiccan Spring Rite / Picnic for next year, and have an interest in a
+very high end dining venue, specifically, Daniel Boloud's restaurant
+in Steve Winn's new casino.

+Kareoke night at the Imperial Palace front room.

+It would be great to have one event where everyone got together,
+perhaps on a Friday. It would be great to meet everyone and get a huge
+group pic.

+In 05 we had a dance night at Krave love to see that again. I miss
+Mindy graden party I was thinking maybe we could replace it with picnic
+or cookout in a park.

Actually, there may be a legal issue with having any DLV activities in
any public park in Clark County. I'll explain if anybody really wants.

+movie outing, minigolf, mama mia,

+I think we might consider an additional show as an optional activity.

+I would like to see at least one or two nights that are maximum
+attendance events. In other words an event that most DLV attendees, if
+not all would be most likely to attend.

+a hike can be very secluded and fun

+A nightime walking tour of the strip may be worth looking into. This
+could be done with small groups.

+I like to have one bid event that we all can get dressed up ( like a
+ball) and meet as many of the girls at one time. I can see that would
+be hard with girls coming and going home every day

+I think that possibly having an Evening of Dinner, Street Dancing, and
+shopping on Fremont Street would be fun and low cost. An evening or day
+trip to the Rio to see the Mardi Gras in the sky show would be fun as
+well.

+How about a costume party!

For those who want to do something, choose one of the above, pick it
up, and run with it! :)

>As a matter of fact, the floor is now open for discussion for the dates
>of DLV 2007.

I did a little homework here and I'll suggest some workable timeframes
after some discussion.

As Tina would say, let's round up the usual suspects ...

* Passover is April 3-10, 2007.

* Easter (both Orthodox and contemporary) is April 8, 2007. Although
we're not enjoined from it officially, we should probably avoid the
first week in April due to this.

* NAB Convention is April 16-19, 2006. This is the one that caused room
rates to spike, and resulted in our rescheduling of DLV 2006. Therefore
I think the third week in April would be bad for us.

* Laughlin River Run is held "always the last full weekend in April"
according to their COC, so that would make it April 27-29, even though
the web site says TBA. Julie, any comments?

* Mothers Day is May 13, 2007, so that enjoins us from planning
anything on May 11-12-13, which rules out the first full week in May.

* Interop (nee Networld/Interop) is May 20-25, 2007. It's getting later
each year, and is probably too late to really affect DLV one way or
another, but it may influence the plans of one of our regular overseas
attendees.

Therefore I see the following timeframes as being workable, but none of
them appear ideal:

1. April 9 - April 14
2. April 23 - April 28
3. April 30 - May 5
4. May 14 - May 19

The downsides of these are:

1. April 9 - April 14. Abuts Easter. We've scheduled DLV to begin on
the day after Easter twice before, and we didn't hear any griping about
it until one complaint came in right after DLV 2006. This will also,
statistically (#include <dont_count_on_it.h>) be our coolest choice.

2. April 23 - April 28. Ends just as the Laughlin River Run begins.

Comments, Julie?

3. April 30 - May 5. Abuts the Laughlin River Run.

4. May 14 - May 19. Abuts Mothers Day. This will, statistically, be a
few degrees warmer than the earlier selections.

(#include <maybe_maybe_not.h>)

For those of you who counted, yes, these are all six-day spans.

Yes, I am suggesting a six-day DLV for 2007.

Why? Because that's what I think our current volunteer force can handle
without burning out.

I'm very much expecting multiple " ... but I want a seven-day DLV"
responses to this. What I challenge you to say in addition is along the
line of " ... but I want a seven-day DLV and I am willing to personally
recruit additional volunteer help."

We're not doing anything good by biting off more than our volunteer
force can chew!

Thanks, LeAnna. The 2006 Limo Tour team is now intact for 2007. :)

Thanks, Densie.

This does sound like a very fun activity, in either girlmode or boymode,
with or without wigs. :)

Thanks for volunteering to do the pins, again. The DLV pins have become
a very good souvenir for our attendees, and a very good value.

Thanks for the input, Lori.

The reason for starting and enforcing BDR a few years ago was to prevent
embarrassment of the group by one, or a few. Hopefully, those that
wish to present themselves in public like you mentioned, will continue
to attend those conventions, and not DLV. :)
