Org List:

This is the DLV 2006 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

Ongoing activity database appears on the web at:

Late items:

First of all, do we need any reminders sent to the general DLV audience?

Anybody's sign-ups (Golf, Tea) going slowly or nearing a critical mark?

If so, let me know and we'll send out a nag-o-gram.
. . . . .

It is getting close, and I think it's time that we call a halt to all
additions and changes that are not currently under discussion.

Some advance copies of the LFM have already gone out, so any changes will
create or add to confusion.

The items I currently show as open are:

1. Pre-DLV items (unofficial)
2. Dinner Saturday night (see below)
3. Rocky Horror (see below)

Unless somebody says something quick, MCC and Freezone will appear in
the LFM as early-bird meeting locations. As I said, some copies have
already gone out to those leaving home early, which list these items.

Drop-dead cutoff for about everything is Wednesday, about 0700 CDT.

Thanks, gang! This one is gonna be a goodie! :)

Palace Station:

JB writes:

>Speaking of times and places, are we still open to nominations of other

Yes, most definitely. However, this has to be put on the very fast
track.

>I personally plan to avoid buffets. I have been losing weight, and I
>don't want to feel like I should eat enough to get "my money's worth".

Ok, please select an alternative, or second one of those mentioned
below.

Buffets are often times a good choice for groups, since there is a
varity of stuff and we have usually been able to get a medium to large
group in and out with little hassle.

However, I will go with what the group decides, as long as the group
decides before 0700 CDT on Wednesday. :)

>I remember in DLV 2003 we went to the Palace Station and decided not to

That is correct. The reason we quickly moved over to the San Remo is
that the line was several switchbacks long and we had a few people whose
schedule would not allow them to wait. (Some may cite another reason,
but it didn't have to do with food.) :) :)

>As you all know San Remo is now Hooters. Hooters is probably really
>crowded on a Saturday night.

The last time I was out in Las Vegas I stuck my head into Hooters
Casino, mainly out of curiosity. The crowd was mostly 20-30-ish guys,
real fratboy type looking group. I don't think that would work.

>If you're not into buffet, perhaps Marie Callender's (I,ve never been
>there).

That would work. However, there is a group going there on Wednesday,
and it might be repetitive.

>Tony Roma's?

We had a group go to the one on Sahara by MC's in 1999. No issues.

>Or we could eat in a sit down place at the Sahara i.e coffee shop,
>Paco's. Are these crowded?

Casino places will be more crowded on Saturday than on the weekdays.

These may be repetitive for a number of our people.

>I really think we can do better than Palace Station. Let history not
>repeat itself.

IIRC we've had dinners at Palace Station Buffet in 1999, 2000, and 2001
and none of those were particularly bad. Back then it was better than it
is now, IMAO, that is. Palace Station is, IMAO, the weakest of all of
the Station buffets.

>But for a good buffet option, why not do the Sahara Buffet.

The only reason I would hesitate to do that is it would be repetitive
for many of our people who are staying at the Sahara.

>Sincerely, ANYA, here in warm Las Vegas and getting off her culinary
>soapbox.

All we really need is for somebody to suggest something definitive
and we can change this.

Comments, gang?

More Rocky Horror status:

If you're not interested in RHPS details, you can skip much of this one.

JB has another possibility going, and we should know if it will work or
not within the day.

I'm including this mainly because I have to chuckle at the antics that
go on with these things. :)

JB writes:

>>>Today in person, I met one of the two owners of the Cinemas. He's
>>>quite solid that he won't be running RHPS in his theatre.

>>Thanks, JB. I wondered why my ears were burning a while back. :) :)

>He had nothing to say that is in any way relatable to DLV or any member
>of DLV.

I didn't really expect that. I could, however, imagine his comments,
much of which is reflected in what you did hear.

>His comments were entirely about the two groups that take over the
>theatre, how they treated him (blowing him off), his costs associated
>with staying open, their discourtesy to his existing patrons who were
>still in the building (families), and their state of undress
>(unacceptable to him in a family venue). All of this was from his one
>experience of the first Saturday RHPS after he closed escrow. He said
>his partner (and that's his wife) agreed with his assessment.

>He went into details of the concessions sales versus cost of personnel,
>lights, etc. He objected to the 40-person crew setting up tables and
>selling their own concessions, and their demand that all fourty of them
>enter fee-free. He objected to obstruction of his lobby, other theatre
>doors and the exits of the theatre where RHPS was being shown with the
>"freight" brought in by the crew. He specifically and repetitively
>objected to being ignored when he asked them to move things, not prop
>the theatre doors wide open, etc. By the time he told them he was the
>new owner, he had already made the decision to not have them back.

>So, what of that made your ears burn?

Uh, most of the above, actually. :)

{deletia maxima}

I'm scratching a lot of this original note since JB has established
contact with HM's and will have some more details tonite.

>>The default will be to scratch RHPS if plans are not made,
>>but if you can arrange something for Saturday or even for
>>Friday around midnight, I think it will work fine.

>Roger, Wilco!

Tango Uniform!

>> 11:59pm Rocky Horror Picture Show (Paradise Cinema)

>Nope, we scratched it there! (neener neener neener, Annie!)

Uh, yeah, I guess I should get it off the map too. :)
