Org List:

This is the DLV 2006 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

Lots going on:

Monte Carlo vote is in progress. If you didn't receive your ballot,
please reply and a dupe will be sent.
. . .

I plan to have the on-line registration screens ready to test by
the next mailing. These were delayed because of the uncertainty of
the timeframe and the hotels.
. . .

We do seem to be a bit behind where we've been the past couple years at
this time, but I don't think it's critical. We do need to concentrate in
filling out the schedule and lining up and confirming volunteers for the
things that are to happen.

Of particular importance is the final weekend. See various items below.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
The Grand Reshuffle:

Since our schedule has shifted by 6 days, we need to go over what's
on it and see what needs to be moved, what can stay in its current
relative timeslot, etc.

I've edited the schedule the best I can, and the updated copy appears at
the bottom.

Let's take a quick look at the daily lineup ...

+Sunday, April 23:
+ 10:30am Religious services (Metro Comm Church)

This obviously needs to be moved to the final Sunday, actually,
it's about the only thing that truly stays in place. :)

Now for Monday ..

+Monday, April 24 (17):
+ 10:00am Death Valley Tour (Rendezvous point TBD)

I would like to keep this on Monday, now the 17th. I really don't see it
working any other day. I'm sure we will miss a few who are coming in on
Monday, but ...

+ 1:00pm Lunch With Ginger (Sahara Buffet)

I am assuming that LW(o)G and WOYLW(ow)G will (still) be on all
weekdays. Ginger, will you be doing the Walk Off Your Lunch (WowoG)
again this coming year?

See Nora's note below for some more Monday thoughts.

I know we had EON scheduled, but I don't think that's a good
option for the first night. I'm tentatively moving that to Wednesday.

Edy, what do you think of a Buck Wild show on Monday after our welcome
thing, wherever that may be?

For Tuesday ...

+Tuesday, April 25 (18):
+ AM Sunbathing (Lake Mead)
+ AM-PM Lake Mead Boat Cruise (Lake Mead)
+ 1:00pm Lunch With Ginger (Sahara Buffet)
+ Ev Happy Hour (TBD)
+ Ev NSD III (TBD)

I think Tuesday can stand as is. Diane? Aiko?

+Wednesday, April 26 (19):
+ 1:00pm Lunch With Ginger (Sahara Buffet)
+ Ev Happy Hour (TBD)
+ Ev Eating Out Night (Various)

We'll need a feature activity for Wednesday evening.

Do we want something multi-track, maybe a Mainstream/Alternative
Night with various options?

+Thursday, April 27 (20):
+ 1:00pm Lunch With Ginger (Sahara Buffet)
+ Ev Limo Tour (Strip)

See Mindy's note below regarding golf.

We've talked about things for Thursday such as a show before the Limo
Tour, but nothing is scheduled. I don't see any need to reschedule the
LT.

+Friday, April 28 (21):
+ 1:00pm Lunch With Ginger (Sahara Buffet)
+ Ev Happy Hour (TBD)
+ Ev Annual Mixer (TBD)

Wedding people? How does the rescheduling affect things? We're to the
point now that we need to find a place for it on the schedule and see
how it fits with other things. Also see Nora's note about the wedding
below (or above?). :)

Saturday is more or less blank. I would love to get the Garden Party
back on the schedule, but ...

We need a full slate of Saturday evening activities. {over}

Sunday morning we have MCC. I'm also kind of assuming that the High
Tea fans will want to claim Sunday afternoon for HT.

Tea fans?

I think we can do some kind of a social (yeah, bar type thing) farewell
gathering for Sunday evening.

Dinners and Big Sisters:

(from a conversation ... summary for the group)

Nora writes:

>Hi Annie:

Hewwo. :)

>>>Now that the dates of the DLV seem to be set I would like to proceed
>>>with the scheduling of some of the dinners.

>>Ok, I think we can now go ahead with this.

>>>When do you think will be a good date for dinner at Suede? I would
>>>like to lock in the date with the manger if possible.

>>I really think that Suede would make a good first night venue, now
>>being Monday, for first a Happy Hour, then Dinner, then a Welcome
>>Celebration with their entertainment du jour if they have any.

>No Good for Monday night. Suede is closed on Mondays. We could do it
>for opening night on Sunday or Tuesday night.

Well, if they are closed Monday, maybe Bahama Breeze could be a
good second choice.

Sunday will not be our opening night this year, it's now Monday the
17th.

Tuesday is tentatively NSD, and I know that Aiko is trying to work
out a buffet dinner for that night at one of the ranches.

>>>Also let me know your feelings of going to the Bahama Breeze again. I
>>>can start on that also.

>>I like the idea. I didn't hear any complaints on food or attitude. The

>>>I will approach the Bahama Breeze for either Friday or Saturday night

>>Maybe we could do Suede on Friday or Saturday with Bahama Breeze on
>>Monday.

>>second choice.

>I was talking to Cheryl and she thought that the Bahama Breeze would
>make a good venue for the "reception" following the wedding. How do
>you feel about that?

The wedding is one activity that we do need to find a timeslot for.
I'm open, and this far out we still have plenty of options.

>>Maybe we could do Suede on Friday or Saturday with Bahama Breeze on
>>Monday.

>Suede may not be a good place for Friday or Saturday. These are there
>busy days and they may not be able to accommodate us. It is better if
>we can do it during the week. Wednesday or Thursday would be best.

Hmmmm ... the night I was there, Saturday, from opening until late
evening, I would definitely not call it busy by any means. Most of
the tables were empty.

It was my impression that they did usually get a larger crown later
for the entertainment, but most of us were far too dru^H^H^Htired
by then.

We do need to find a place for some kind of an opening thing on Monday.
I'm a bit leery of doing Hamburger Mary's due to all of the complaints
last year. I'm just afraid it would spoil the turnout on the first
night.

I do think we need a place for a single-track opening night thing,
one that's relatively safe and one that will encourage turnout by
the returnees as well.

Comments, gang?
. . . . .

>Oh one more thing. If possible I would like to see the feedback on the
>Big Sister program from last year. It will help towards this years
>program.

I went back through the archives and here are the various survey items
and feedback that in one way or another that mention Big Sisters:

+I did hear of one Girl who attended DLV but stayed in her room the
+entire time, too afraid to come out. I know we have a BIG SISTER
+program and maybe she did not know that ???

We were able to rescue one who was "stuck" in a hotel room back in 1999,
but I'm sure there are several others over the year who made it all the
way to Las Vegas but not the last mile to DLV. :(

I was finally able to talk to somebody who did this, not for DLV but for
Pinkfest. Stayed in the same hotel as another attendee, but just didn't
have the nerve to go out. That's really all there was to it, just unease
taking those last few steps.

I really think the Big Sisters can help out here. We can't, however,
force anybody to sign up for a Big Sister, and we can't make anybody
use one or force them to phone the Big Sister hotline if they get
stuck in a hotel room or in a vehicle.
. . .

+>We would like to ask each and every one of you to consider
+>volunteering to be a Big Sister for our expanded Big Sister Program

+Can I be a big mother-in-law instead? I have an apron and a rolling
+pin.
. . .

+Many thanks to the organizers and Big Sisters (especially Jenni) that
+made this such an enjoyable week. I especially liked the wide
+assortment of events to choose from.
. . .

+I know of one 5 year attendee that was a big sister for someone new
+this year that just was plain old rude and ignored the Big Sister, even
+though the Big Sister attempted to help her. That Big Sister has
+volunteered several times in the past and will not ever again since her
+vacation was spent trying to help a rude person. That Big Sister is not
+complaining and never will. She has a grip on reality and has just
+moved on as we all should.

This is very unfortunate. Not only was the el-jerko Little Sister rude
to the Big Sister, but she potentially hurt others in the future by
discouraging the Big Sister from trying it again with a more worthy
Little Sister. :(
. . .

+>I know of one 5 year attendee that was a big sister for someone new
+>this year that just was plain old rude and ignored the Big Sister,

+If it were my call, people such as rude LS's and certain self-centered
+dorks would be placed on a "no invite" list for next year's event.
. . .

And from the objective section of the survey ...

+Did you participate in the Big Sister program:

+Big Sister, negative experience: 4
+Big Sister, LS was no-show: 1
+Big Sister, positive experience: 7
+Little Sister, positive experience: 3
+Little Sister, negative experience: 2
+Did not participate: 41
+Unaware the Big Sister program existed: 1
. . .

>Since I will be away from 3/25 - 4/7 I could use some assistance in
>administering the Big Sister program.

If Crystal or whoever doesn't come forward this year, I'm sure I can
help out in this respect.

Feature Photo Article:

I need some advice here, gang, and I want some feedback before I
respond. I received this a couple days ago:

>Marlayna Lacie here. Please rsvp as I am interested in doing a feature
>photo article on your fab -boo event. Please visit

Is anybody familiar with this site?

Fab-Boo? :) :)

Anyway, I took the "tour" of this site. It's definitely a pay site and
looks like it has quite a bit of pr0n, but I never got that far.

I'm leaning toward respectfully declining the offer for coverage, since
we don't have a sexually-oriented activity and the web site appears to
be primarily sexually oriented, but I want the input here first.

Day care center? I must have missed that one. :)

That's good to hear, Mindy. It's good that they gave you a good slot
over there at the MGM.

>as far as the golf lots do a tenitive for thurs. i will check with the

I'll put it on the working schedule for Thursday. I'll also dust off
the DLVGOLF list and send out a test message. It actually should be
working as is. I'll add a note about golf and the golf list to the
next general mailing.
