Org List:
This is the DLV 2005 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.
Ongoing activity database appears on the web at:

Misc. goings-on:
Another early mailing ...
Between now and DLV we can expect notes to ORG to go out as needed,
particularly when there are hot items on the plate. Thanks to everbody,
I don't really have a Laundry List anymore.
All ORG items should be caught up. Everybody who sent anything in since
last Wednesday should either see it here or have received a reply
directly from me.
. . . . .
I was just reminded that I did not send out the activity sign-up
report URL as I had intended:
http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/dlvhc.html
It's updated every few hours. Please use it, don't abuse it. :)
. . . . .
I would like to ask everybody to please go over the schedule below
and write in if anything is missing, out of place, or at the wrong
time. Please pay particular attention to those activities that you
have a part in coordinating.
The final detailed schedule is in progress now.
. . . . .
Activity sign-up continues to go fairly smoothly. As of this time 91
of them are in, with most of the outstanding ones being newcomers.
However (comma) there are a few VERY familiar names on that list.
>>>>HINT<<<< Please get those in, gang! :)
. . . . .
Two things that I'm asking our local people to do a quick check on:
1. Check to be sure that loud dancing at Goodtimes does not go on on
Friday evening around the time (7:30-8:30) planned for our Annual Mixer,
since the consensus is for moving the AM back there.
2. Check to see if Rocky Horror is indeed playing at the Paradise
Six on Saturday, April 30.
Thanks, gang.
. . . . .
Yes, there are some common themes in the mailings received.
One question is if somebody has an idea about something to do on Friday
or Saturday, are they free to pursue it.
The answer is most definitely YES. Please don't unilaterally commit us
to anything until we have a consensus here in ORG.
We have some people looking, there are wheels turning, but nothing
concrete to report yet.
Another ground rule I want to follow here is to not mess around with
those activities that are solid and for which sign-up is in progress.
This means that no, we don't want to reschedule anything that is
currently scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday evenings.
. . . . .
With all of the focus lately on what is going wrong with DLV, many
of us, myself included, have lost sight of what great work everybody
has done and how much fun we're gonna have in just a couple weeks.
I know there's some frustration out there, I feel it myself, and some
of us are getting a bit testy at times. Please, gang, let's think
positive, pull forward together as we always have, and do what we
can to make this this best DLV we can make it!
Do keep in mind that there are a lot of things going RIGHT with this
upcoming DLV. We have some very good people who have done (and continue
to do) a super job on some very exciting activities. In fact, if you
just look at the schedule from Monday to Thursday, you'll see a schedule
that is quite solid and eclipses DLVs of the past.
. . . . .
I'm also going to ask everybody, myself included, to use some maturity
and some restraint when communicating disappointments and frustrations.
While it might be tempting to write pointed letters, post incendiary
notes in newsgroups, organize boycotts, etc., at this time the only
effect would most likely have would be to make a bad situation worse.
I'm asking everybody to please, even if as a personal favor, to hold off
on any action until after DLV and until we see how things really work
out. We could be surprised.

Thanks, Aiko. I'm thinking that if you do have some seats still
reserved but not taken, let's post this note in general and let
them see what great seats the group will get!

Thanks, Tawni. I'll add this to the detailed dress notes in the LFM and
may use it in the general mailing, depending on volume.

Here are my thoughts about NSD transportation, and much of this might
not be what you want to hear.
I'm not trying to discourage anybody. I'm just letting my thoughts
and feelings be known.
The bottom line is that I am super paranoid about any large-vehicle
volunteer-driven solution. I'm not going to try to fight it if that's
what somebody wants to organize, but I don't want to be the one driving,
on record as renting, or on record as organizing.
I would suggest that anybody taking this on agree to not only abstain
(from alcohol that is) but to take out the liability and medical
options.
As to the two vendors suggested, I've rented from both in Las Vegas.
US Rent-A-Car is smaller but does offer good rates and good service.
I've used them at John Wayne (Orange County) as well. My only gripe
is that their shuttle (in Las Vegas) doesn't run as often as the
others.
Budget has good rates, but I've found them to be the most snitty
about picky things than any others in LV.
My suggestion is to just do a carpool type thing. Out of the 56
signed up for it so far, I show 22 having vehicles, so we will
have far more open seats than we have tushes to fill them. :)

Ok, that looks like 3 votes for the AM at Goodtimes.
>Michael Cage--again do what it takes...
And that is what we will do.

Rocky Horror is a very special-interest thing, and it may come off
the schedule if we can't get confirmation that it will indeed happen
that Saturday.

Ok, that's 4 votes for, none opposed to moving the Annual Mixer (back)
to Goodtimes.
